Why rush to sign Demond? You're a top flight QB. No need to rush.

This is squarely on him and his agents.

The school has lost valuable time to hit free agency for another QB thinking they were all set.

When I say inmates I'm not just referring to players. I'm talking about every handler, agent, parent or whomever that is giving these young men bad advice.

Also, why in every professional sport is a contract binding but when it comes to NIL someone thinks that they can get out of a contract that they just signed 4 days prior?

This is precisely one of a ton of arguments as to why state tax-funded institutions have no business in being attached to any of this. Shit's going to hit the fan, hopefully sooner rather than later. Let the private schools do it all day. USC/Notre Dame would be incredible! Miami in there too...hell I'm sure it would be entertaining. And of course BYU. Duh.

I wish more attention was being paid to these scumbag agents that are popping up. I saw that the Arkansas long snapper is setting up visits through his agency. A fucking long snapper? Some agent is glomming on to a college long snapper? Just another group of people exploiting these players who have only their own interests at heart.

I'll bet if these players made these decisions left to their own devices, many more of them would probably stick around where they are, because they would consider all of the aspects that affect their situation in addition to the money. Unfortunately, these agents want them to only focus on the money aspect because that's the only thing the "outside people" benefit from. Great long term relationships, comfort with a system, piece of mind, anxiety free headspace, etc do not benefit the agent, so he doesn't want them to consider those things. The only thing these kids should be worried about is what will make them happiest long term. Money is a factor, but it isn't the only factor, especially when the alternative(staying) also pays them a ton. If the kid decides the extra money is worth all the tradeoffs, then fine, but I wish I knew that they were considering everything, rather than just listening to the advice of a lowlife scumbag who only wants to profit off of them.

Salty. That they did. I didn’t like our chances going in, because the offense relied way too much on the big play all year and/or the running game. I didn’t think either would come easy against Oregon, but was disappointed in the play calling and just how bad the QB play was overall. Defense was phenomenal. Still an unreal season as a Tech fan. We don’t get those. In my eyes a Big XII championship had to happen (Got it) and then after that see what happens. Fun time to be a fan of Tech right now (hoops and softball too). In my opinion with the alignment of our Big Money Donors, (and it’s not just Cody C), state of the art facilities, analytics department, GM, and staff the 2025 team will the least talented Tech team that we see for awhile. It won’t all be portal either. 2026 recruiting class is nice (2 5*s, those never come often for us either), but if you are into recruiting look at our 27’ commits. #1 QB and #1 defensive player. Love all the hate online from the blueblood schools. Ruining the sport, buying their team, blah blah. We all know this shit ain’t new. It’s legal now and Tech is aligned as a program and have tons of cash and are willing to spend it. Ain’t no fun when rabbits got the gun. Sorry about the rant.

Back to portal. Sorsby is back in Lubbock to host Cam Coleman and Koi Perich as I type. Thoughts are that Damon Wilson (Missouri edge) is scheduled to visit this week as well
 
Since it's a money free fer all

It should take an extra million or two to spend several months of your life in Lubbock. Prime years and yes, I've been through Lubbock. Better than Waco at least.
 
I spent 15 years there and loved it. Not visually stunning one bit. Nice people, good food options, beautiful women, fun bars. Kickass facilities for these players. They aren’t going to Tech for Lubbock. They are going there for money and to play football. The other stuff they will learn about.

I remember driving through in the mid to late 90s and once you got out of the city the gas stations were advertising alcohol like crazy. I just assumed at that point Lubbock was dry but I don't know shit about wet v dry counties or whatever. After going to Waco for ISU/Dr Pepper in 2000 we had to wait for a stop outside city limits to get beer for the road trip back to Austin. Just so crazy. Not sure how dry cities/counties work but that sucked.

Side note the JD distillery in Lynchburg is actually in a dry county. You have to take the 5 minute shuttle on the other side of the county line to actually drink alcohol. Never have understood any of it.

I've said many times since 2011 that my experience at a Nebraska Michigan game in A2 was terrific sans one guy. He was the douche but everyone else was outstanding. Great fan base.

Arizona fan was the absolute worst. Thank God he passed out late in the first quarter. Was with Iowa friends so wore Iowa tee blah blah. Pregame, spit on because Iowa shirt (crazy to go dressed like the alumni you're with but whatever) and I thought the prick was gonna puke on me at the game. Fortunately a pass out. That was the last time I was in Tucson lol. 2010. What a shit show. Bad kitty.

I was a closet TT fan all year as I played that 30-1 back in September. Why? That defense man!

Oregon is a damn good team and really "trench" good which is what determined that game. Tech was still outstanding on D, but had zero help. I'll agree on the play calling being subpar. They started bland and stayed bland. Granted, Oregon dictated a lot of that... But there's was never any true adjustments.

What's your thoughts on coaching?

Tech will be a factor moving forward. The keys will be chemistry and checking egos. So, that goes back to the coaching question... .

Several family members who went to Tech and they loved Lubbock.

Snob asses in Austin raise their nose at Lubbock but the reality is that Austin has become a hell hole for many reasons and you can make arguments for Lubbock over it.

I went through Amarillo a few years ago. I thought it was a pretty neat city from what I could see. It was windy and dusty though. I think the winds would grow on me in those areas.

It's windy and dry and not a ton of stuff to do. But there's also not homeless camps everywhere, schizo, buffoonish city governments with sideways agendas, DAs whose primary agenda is to prosecute cops and not protect citizens from murderers, infrastructual messes and otherwise.

Knew about McGuire from his coaching days in Tx HS Football, and his taking the job at Baylor under Rhule. Was excited with the hire originally for his recruiting abilities alone and his connections all across the state with HS coaches. Won big home games early, beat UT and OU his first year, but teams really struggled on the road. Never worried about the fit but started to question if he was in over his head. This season with all the new pieces I started to see what he truly is. He is the CEO, strategist, culture builder. Reminds me a lot of a younger Mack Brown (they are good buddies). He gives his OC and DC the reigns for their respective side of the ball. He made an outstanding hire with Shiel Wood as DC, who had previously been with Fritz at Tulane and Houston. Love his scheme and hope we can hold on to him as long as possible. The OC hire, Leftwich, who coached Cam Ward at Incarnate Word and then was YOUR Bobcats OC last season I’m still up in the air on. Morton doesn’t fit the Veer and Shoot scheme, couldn’t make all the throws and had zero mobility, especially after the leg injury early in the season. I will judge him next year with Sorsby, who in theory, should be just the type of QB he needs for his system to work. I do fucking hate all of the tempo though. It’s fine sometimes, but after a 2 yd run up the middle do we really need to hurry to the line?

Kids are a little older now, so I should have some free time this offseason and into next season to jump in on discussions and post any plays I have with Tech or Big 12.

I don't think loyalty matters much these days which is the hardest part of the whole thing for me to grasp

It takes a lot personally to go against what got me here. Few redeeming qualities but loyalty is one til someone makes me go elsewhere

I don't understand leaving just to leave. People have invested money and their livelihoods into you. If you don't respect that, good riddance.

They are so inconsistent, just when it seemed like they were getting liberal with their reviews, they smack this request in the gut. No rhyme, no reason. Virtually everyone expected it to be granted.

Now the Cards can draft him.

Cub said some resource had him ranked #16 among starting QBs a couple weeks ago. No way draft capital would suggest taking him in the first round even though both you and I know he's likely going to be better than Cody Simpson. Guessing round 3 or 4 for him.

Yeah I've seen these projections and don't believe them at all. I'm probably going overboard saying he's going second overall but I'd be very surprised if Chambliss does not get drafted in the first round.

Sweet, Cam Coleman to the Horns. Not overly surprising but I'm late to the game seeing this.

Just a fantastic, underutilized talent.

Unless he wanted to go the Dante route to sit and learn a year.

Most of these freshman QBs are not truly ready to start. A guy like Trev Lawrence coming in earlier is the outlier.

Tua was brought along slowly, playing in 2h's of games all year, until he was ready at the biggest moment.

Dante was thrown into the fire right away. NIL pushes this as well. He's a smart kid and realized what had to be done in order to achieve his dream of playing at the next level. He did a reset on his career and that's worked out nicely.

Now, we'll see how he does at the next level. I'm not saying he'll be a star at all. He does have the talent and the work ethic needed. We'll see from there.
