Portal and Recruiting Thread for 2026....

Yeah, who knows? There was definitely a falling out with him and Kenny D. I heard that he hurt his ankle playing hoops. Probably a quick way to alienate those that gave you NIL money.... and your HC.

thank goodness, weve lost like half the team since the season ended

All I know is the sport has changed and continues to do so and all of it is negative.
very positive for the players receiving NIL and being allowed to transfer like free agents.

i am not giving a value judgement either way, i am just saying that it is extremely beneficial to lots of folks.

It's been extremely successful in removing the word college from college football

If it gets rid of the NCAA and disassociates with educational institutions altogether it will be even more beneficial to everyone who actually enjoyed the activity of collegiate athletics at one point

I try to not follow the details of the transfer issue because it's all I can do to accept it for what it is and go about things how I want to and still try and enjoy what I do on Saturdays. But I think that many people do follow it extremely closely and it makes me wonder, how many of the transfer portal guys are wins vs the ones that aren't? Close to 4000 guys in the portal now right? How many of those go from starting or major contributing roles to secondary roles who see the field less? How many really are not getting the pay day they had thought they would? How many enter the portal never to attend college again? I would be interested in some cliff notes version of those issues. The successes of the transfer portal are all over the TV and in the news. Don't hear too much about the other side; it has to be considerable disappointment and regret from many I suspect.

I hear you, Bud.

I will say that given that two of the top four still standing (Indiana and Ole Miss) were heavily built through the portal especially at the key position QB, and Miami and Oregon both have successful transfers at QB, we are going to see the transfer portal remain as strong or stronger than HS recruiting because the proof is in the pudding.

Kind of nuts to think that all 4 starting QB's in the semis are transfers and 3 of them started at other schools before become starters at their current school.

NIL-receiving players have it way better now. Way better. $$$

No doubt, but they already had it good. I am just saying the real big time loser in all of this is the fan of the sport (which is CLEARLY down as a product - subjective as it may be)

a few years ago i was concerned about SEC and B1G expansion as well as the 12 team playoff vs the 4 teamer and how it would impact the product negatively but looking back i believe my concerns were unfounded as the quality of matchups most weeks was tremendous, no?

as far as tv ratings (a different conversation than "quality" i know), it appears ratings have gone up..

I liked, not loved, Brendan Sorsby this season. A bit more inconsistency than you'd want to see.

$5MM / year with Tech.

Holy wow. Maybe I'm just naive to the size of the #s but that feels insane.
5 million seems to be about the going rate for QBs but I did see a rumor that Oregon might be willing to pay Dante Moore 10 but then again there aren't many boosters like Phil Knight.

Except for the Cody Campbells. That may explain it.

I bet at least half the players in the portal are there because their current team told them it was in their best interest. There are many players who don't want to be there imho.

100% Let's not put all the blame on the players just willingly going. Coaches tell these kids all time, you probably need to look elsewhere.

Because it is.

I like Sorsby too.

That being said, his slot should be 750,000 to 1,000,000 tops.
The top QBs are making way more than 1 million and if you want a QB you have to be willing to pay in the 5 million dollar range.

Completely missed Minchey flipping to Kentucky from Nebraska a day after committing to Nebraska

Obviously the Leavitt stuff was complete BS

Sorsby for 5 million is asinine.

Period.

But Tech has an unlimited budget.
He looked like a deer in headlights against Utah this year. 5M is beyond asinine.

TTU may have unlimited money but overpaying for average players isn't a solid way to build your program.

Not at all.

They built a helluva team in this year but this doesn't get them over the top at all.

I saw where Beau Pribula was / is the 18th ranked QB in the portal. Seems like I remember him showing quite a bit of good in his time at Missouri. Or am I blind and he's more ass than anything?

They had to have a one year guy come in for this season with Will Hammond tearing his ACL mid-year. Money is ridiculous, but plan before Hammond’s injury was to roll with him for the next two seasons and then hopefully hand the reigns to highly touted 2027 QB Kavian Bryant.

Now it’s time for the big money guys to try and lure in Cam Coleman who will be in Lubbock tomorrow.
Thought it was a foregone conclusion that he was going to Texas so they told Livingstone to hit the portal

Michigan starting to get the guys back that entered. Also, WR Marsh never entered and is signing a 2 year deal. That's a surprise as he was shopping himself late in the year (I would too playing for a scarecrow).

This Tech money is spending longer than SMU. I guess you just need a couple cowboys/old money stale 🤑?

Not going to lie, a little torn on pulling for Whit or wanting him to fail miserably. 😂

Hey...

It's not like he decided to leave you guys to advance in the profession. He may not have been forced out but the 6 years of coach in waiting obviously played a part.

I'll defer to you.

That was it entirely. He kept flip flopping. Go through the in games the last few years. I've wanted him gone for a long time, especially for the way he handled the Rising injury and never having a backup worth a damn.

I've been ready for Scalley for a while, I just didn't want him to start with a gutted staff. He's seemed to assemble a pretty good staff on short notice, we shall see.

If whit continues with his clandestine practices and tin foil hat approach to injuries he will alienate half of your fanbase before the first year is over. 😂

Oh, the fan base is so bad man.

The meltdowns at first about hire.

Then they came around.

Then last Friday melting again about the portal.

Now elation again with the key guys returning.

Next will be despair if we don't pick up outside portal commits anytime soon. We have ONE, a long snapper from Pitt!
