Penn State vs. Notre Dame Discussion Thread

LMFAO James Frankling just said some prepared narrative and said "were open up for questions"

The dude actually narrating it basically said "coach, I'll dictate when we open this up for questions". Then he opened it up for questions.

* Franklin if we want to be college bound

Penn State was the worst team in the playoff. ND could have the flu, be called for PI on an Int without or barely touching a wr that was four yards beyond the int point, pull notre dame jerseys on virtually every running play, have half of the ND oline injured, and play well and still get whipped.

ND is and was all year the much better team.

Coaching:

In zero opportunies I have zero wins vs top 5 teams
In 16 opportunities Franklin has 1

If you have me plus 1.5, you win

A little over the top with worst team in the playoff and getting whipped. They are solid as can be with being in the semi final. Great game for all to witness,. ND having a magical season.

As terrible as Allar was, play calling and coaching probably cost psu. Could’ve ran for 300+ it seemed. Credit to ND adjustments too

The key to me, other than coaching, was the fact ND held the ball in the 2h.

Plays were 42-26 in the half.

PSU had 7 total plays in the 3rd quarter.

The offense simply didn't have a chance until the 4th. Then we saw them start doing their thing again.

The Irish controlled the ball on that first drive.

They finally forced a 3 n out and it was game on.

It's not being discussed a ton but Angeli coming in and driving ND at the end of the 1H was huge. Took them down the field and got some points when the team was desperate for some momentum, its starter in the medical tent. I'm still not sure how Carter didn't recover that strip fumble but he didn't. And ND got the FG and went into the half with much-needed momentum. It carried that into the 2H with an opening drive that tied and changed the game entirely.

Spot on

I am pretty sure if I were Ohio State that I would prefer to play Penn State who only managed 1 td against the buckeyes when they played at Penn State earlier this year ... and that TD was an 8 yard drive after an interception, I think. Penn State had 270 yards.

I would take my chances there.

ND defense isn't getting much love but they only allowed 24 points last night with PSU allowed to hold on every play, and of course we know for sure a minimum of 7 of it was gifted via that mystery PI. There is a reason that ND struggled more against the run last night than normal besides the injury.

ND will be a much tougher out for whoever advances than Penn State would be
* Better Coach
* Better QB
* Better DC
* Much better Pass Defense

Where is PSU notably superior to ND besides penalties?

It’s probably all the same thing. If they literally wouldn’t have let Allar throw one pass in the second half, I think Penn State would’ve won.

There is no defense to legal holding, so I think you are on to something there. Had ND held all game while PSU did not, and got away with it the way PSU did, ND wins by 31 or so

Yeah they are a little smaller than the PSU oline. What has made ND great all year is that they get off the blocks so they cannot be pushed around. See earlier posts.
