Ohio State vs. Oregon Discussion Thread

Can't beat the scene and will have a old fashioned matchup for it.

Good stuff.

Oregon was the better team the first time, despite the close finish.

I want to watch that one again and hopefully find a few nuggets.

Decided this is my late night viewing on Monday. I'm looking at that box and what a fascinating game. So looking forward to this one.

Based upon how the initial matchup played out and the venue (lack of weather concerns), will be taking a long look at over 53’. Yes, OSU’s defense has progressed significantly since the first meeting but no one else on their schedule was close to Ducks’ offense. Igbinosun and Burke still mistake/penalty-prone on the back end and UO can exploit that.

Oregon D was pretty bad in the big ten title game. Allar missed several easy throws and psu still scored a ton. If we get the Howard from last night, osu should have no problem scoring.

PSU kept sticking with the run and getting big chunks because Oregon was playing zone up 10-14 for the majority of the game. Score was misleading imo. Oregon overwhelms opponents on offense with their balance and tempo....it can lead to their defense being on the field a lot. Their red zone defense definitely is an issue.

Extra notes...Burch did not play last game. OSU kicker is 1 of last 4. One was a 60 yard try though. Could be the diffference in a toss up game.

How do we think each team has changed in the last 10 weeks?

I personally don't think either has changed much. OSU defense is stout. That's their identity. On offense they really attacked the Vols early with the pass but I'm not putting much stock into that game. Oregon is fast and physical and a diffferent planet than the Vols especially offense. A true coin flip game where the little things will matter, like a 4th down go for it or punt? FG's, refs, etc.

OSU secondary was burned last game by Ducks bad. I do think OSU's secondary is better now than then....but again, Oregon just a different breed of a team on offense than really anyone this year.

No doubt on the small things potentially deciding the outcome.

Remember, in the first match the Ducks missed 2 pt conversions on their first two scores.

Ohio State fumbled to set up the first Oregon TD

Oregon missed a FG near the end of the 1Q.

Oregon was SOD at the OSU 2 yard line with 3-4 left in the 3rd.

We all know how the game ended...

One other note: Real grass field (LOVE it)

Bonus: Oregon 11-17 this year on 4th down

When brackets came out, I had Ohio state beating Notre Dame in the final. Nothing has changed to make me move off of that. Should actually get some watchable games this round at least!
