Dylan Cease getting 7 years 210 million from Toronto is just one more reason why I can't wait for the lockout.

It's fair to say Toronto are a big market team with the Vlad and this contract. Not sure what they do with Bichette but it did get old hearing how they were some kind of underdog throughout the playoffs. They spend a lot of money. Who they spend it on isn't really relevant at this point.

I think they had the 5th highest payroll its not like they were the Rays.

MLB Network can tell everyone how brilliant all these big market teams are and wow the Dodgers won two straight championships lets totally forget that this has become Alabama vs Temple in college football.

David Stearns is a very good executive but he's also an asshole that no one wants to deal with. Alonso is desperate to stay there but if it were me I would walk away since that team clearly doesn't value him.

Reading that Diaz never gave them a chance to counter. Fact that his brother is in the lad org and Mets fired their pitching coach went into his decision

LOL. Gooden is a troll acct
Okay, so I'm always on the lookout for those types nowadays.

I swear one more of my buddies sends a "Centel" account in group chat I'm going to lose it...

Anyways, I did a quick recon (apparently not quick enough) and didn't see anything.

Apologies.

Insane contract from a non contender but Mets fans are going to want to kill Stearns.
Everything I read is they (Mets) didn't want to get involved whatsoever in that length of a deal.

He's 31, so imo that's not that bad length wise.

Well, Baltimore was really coming into their own two years ago before a late swoon ... Led to a quick playoffs exit ...

They have been sticking to their plan so far on the rebuild, until here. I guess it's time for that next step!

yeah, these contracts are insane for out of shape 1B/DH type players
Just for kicks I took the age 31-36 years of two contemporary HOF'ers - Cabrera and Pujols
They averaged about a 3.0 WAR over these years, and Pujols OPS+ was about 816 where Cabrera's was slightly higher at 860ish.
These are decent numbers, but there was a massive decline from the 5 years prior where their WARs were more than double that on average.

And Schwarber will be 33 before the season starts and is two years removed from a 0.7 WAR season where he batted less than 200 with a 817 OPS.

I have a feeling both teams will be regretting these contracts sooner rather than later.

They have absolutely no pitching and signing a guy or two is not nearly enough. If they want to overpay my Brewers for Freddy Peralta go right ahead but they need to know it aint gonna be cheap.
