NHL 2018 free agent moves and trade tracker

LeRinkRat

Pretty much a regular
June 23rd: Dougie Hamilton, Micheal Ferland and Adam Fox were traded to the Carolina Hurricanes by the Calgary Flames for Noah Hanifin and Elias Lindholm. does NOT really make a lot of sense to me with the respective players numbers BUT former Hurricanes coach Bill Peters now the Flames head coach. maybe he sees something in Hanifin and Lindholm that he likes. maybe die hard Flames fan fab14 can shed some light on the subject ???

June 13th: Peter Budaj was traded to the Los Angeles Kings by the Tampa Bay Lightning for Andy Andreoff

June 16th: Alex Galchenyuk traded to the Arizona Coyotes by the Montreal Canadiens for Max Domi. that now makes TWO "young gun" forwards that have been shown the door by "Wile E Coyote", Domi to Habs and Anthony Duclair to Blackhawks last season

June 23rd: Philipp Grubauer and Brooks Orpik were traded to the Colorado Avalanche by the Washington Capitals for a second-round pick in the 2018 NHL Draft. Grubauer has signed a three-year contract with the Avalanche BUT the Avalanche have waived Orpik, who is 37 years old, for the purposes of a contract buyout. Ava's GM Joe Sakic said Friday he told Orpik that the Avalanche will buy out the remaining one year and $5.5 million on his contract if they're unable to trade him. If bought out, Orpik would become an unrestricted free agent

June 19th: Mike Hoffman was traded to the Florida Panthers by the San Jose Sharks about two hours after being acquired by the Sharks in a trade with the Ottawa Senators that sent Sharks forward Mikkel Boedker to Ottawa

COMMENTS WELCOME :shake:

June 24th: defenseman John Carlson signed an eight-year, $64 million contract ($8 million average annual value) with the Washington Capitals on Sunday. was a key part of the Capitals Stanley Cup run with 5 goals and 15 assists for 20 points in 24 playoff games

Hamilton was a cancer in the flames locker room. He didnot show up for locker clean up day so tree was shopping him for the last 3 weeks, After his brother went to the yotes on jan 2nd the flames went into the tank because dougie was really pissed off that his brother was picked up. I really like the move because dougie was not a good teammate. :thumbsdown8:

I suspected as much. can NOT have some "poison" in the dressing room no matter HOW good a player they are. hopefully Bill Peters can change the direction of your team this season, fab14 :shake:

VERY surprised by this MOVE

June 24th: Conor Sheary and Matt Hunwick were traded by the Pittsburgh Penguins to the Buffalo Sabres for a conditional fourth-round pick in the 2019 NHL Draft on Wednesday (SHEARY for DONUTS ???)

Sheary, a 26-year-old forward, had 30 points (18 goals, 12 assists) in 79 regular-season games this season and two assists in 12 games during the Stanley Cup Playoffs. He has two seasons remaining on a three-year, $9 million contract (average annual value $3 million) and can become an unrestricted free agent July 1, 2020.

Hunwick, a 33-year-old defenseman, had 10 points (four goals, six assists) in 42 games with the Penguins after signing a three-year contract (average annual value $2.25 million) with Pittsburgh on July 1, 2017. He has 117 points (25 goals, 92 assists) in 521 NHL games with the Boston Bruins, Colorado Avalanche, New York Rangers, Toronto Maple Leafs and Penguins.

Pens clearing space for Jack Johnson

looks like you are correct, Gandolf

June 27th: Jack Johnson is expected to sign a five-year contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins when he becomes a free agent July 1, 105.9 The X and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Wednesday.

The 31-year-old defenseman had 11 points (three goals, eight assists) for the Columbus Blue Jackets last season after scoring 23 points (five goals, 18 assists) the previous season (FIVE years for a 31 year old player obviously past his prime ???)

THIS PISSES me OFF!!! >>> https://www.cbssports.com/nhl/players/playerpage/2058140/devante-smith-pelly

June 27th: Devante Smith-Pelly signed a one-year, $1 million contract with the Capitals on Wednesday, NHL Network's Kevin Weekes reports. according to Washington hockey scribe Isabelle Khurshudyan, the Capitals did NOT even MAKE a qualifying offer to D-S-P. the Capitals get an all time NHL good deal for only $1 million. VGK GM George McPhee ASLEEP at the SWITCH!!! SHOULD have BID on this guy!!! "banger with skills" that can SCORE and was excellent on the PK with Jay Beagle who is a UFA. I wanted BOTH next season in Las Vegas

June 29th: Michal Kempny signed a four-year, $10 million contract with the Washington Capitals on Friday. The contract has an average annual value of $2.5 million.

The 27-year-old defenseman could have become an unrestricted free agent July 1. Kempny was often paired with defenseman John Carlson, who after signing an eight-year contract Sunday said he wanted to see Kempny return

June 26th: Bryan Rust signed a four-year, $14 million contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday. It runs through the 2021-22 season and has an average annual value of $3.5 million.

The 26-year-old forward could have become a restricted free agent July 1.

"He's an important player for us," Penguins general manager Jim Rutherford told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "He can move up and down the lineup and play both wings, albeit the right side is more natural for him. And he's a good penalty killer. Getting him locked into four years was important. We're happy to have him."

June 23rd: Ilya Kovalchuk agreed to terms on a three-year contract with the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday. The 35-year-old forward can sign a contract July 1, when he officially becomes an unrestricted free agent.

Kings president Luc Robitaille said there are details being worked out in the contract. Financial terms were not disclosed.

I think somewhat of a gamble for the LA King. Kovalchuk is a GREAT talent BUT has tended to be "dressing room poison" with other NHL teams, is 35 years old AND probably want's "star treatment" like he had in the KHL

Jvr going back to philly, 5 years 7m per seravelli

Term isnt bad but thats a bit pricy for him imo, with so much of his damage being done on the pp

In terms of on ice play flames are worse after that deal

Lindholm an upgrade on Ferland for sure, but hamilton is a #1d, and gio wont be around much more than a year or two as a top pairing guy

Hanifin lacks that upside imo

Tavares deadline with islanders for an 8 year deal just passed, doesnt mean he wont be going there.... but doesnt look good

I think its toronto or maybe sj

Two awful contracts.

Id give coutures an F-
I like him as a player but i dont know if hes worth thst this year, let alone in 8

Doughty is tough if your LA as he said no discount and someone was giving him this deak, hes probly worth it for the first 5 or 6, but end of thet deal could be ugly

Jt to the leafs, isles fans alreasy burning jerseys

That leafs depth is crazy right now, they will probably have to move a forward next summer for cap space reasons, but even in that, they could move a nylander and just get a crazy return

They still need to improve the d, especially the right side, but that team is stacked

Vegas picking up stastny is a great move, only 3 years as well at 6.5, amazing term

They lost perron back to the blues for 4 years 4m per

more trade tracker >> https://www.spotrac.com/nhl/free-agents/

Jay Beagle from Capitals to Canucks 4 years $12 million. (I thought sure Washington would "pay up" to keep "Snoopy". another "chance gone" for the VGK)

goalie Anton Khudobin to Stars 2 years $5 million

Matt Calvert to Avalanche 3 years 8.4 million

Thomas Vanek to Red Wings 1 year $3 million

Kings Tobias Rieder to Oilers 1 year 2 million (more "WTF McPhee ???)

goalie Chad Johnson to Blues 1 year 1.75 million

Josh Jooris to Maple Leafs 1 year $650K

41 year old center Matt Cullen back to Penguins 1 year $650K

I just hope my Rangers don't give out any big contracts and really tank hard for a shot at Jack Hughes.

Riley Nash to Bluejackets 3 years $8.25 million (somewhat surprised Bruins didn't bid up)

34 year old goalie Cam Ward to Blackhawks 1 year $3 million (1 year "insurance" on Crawford ???)

Eric Fehr to Wild 1 year $1 million (32 years old but played well for Sharks last season when traded there)

goalie Andrew Hammond to Wild 1 year $650K ("hamburgers to go")

center Valtteri Filppule from Flyers to Islanders 1 year $2.75 million

goalie Michael Hutchinson from Jets to Panthers 1 year $1.3 million

left wing Curtis McKenzie from Stars to VGK 2 years $1.5 million

center Brandon Pirri re-sign with VGK 1 year $650K

goalie Maxime Lagace re-sign with VGK 1 year $650K

D-man Nick Holden from Bruins to VGK 2 years 4.4 million

Great signing for next year, extra year or two too long but with a ufa you have to do that

Tre has improved every line there, top 6 was already solid but their depth up front is great

Gaudreau - Monahan - Neal
Tkachuk - backlund - lindholm
Bennett - jankowski - frolik
Brouwer - ryan - czarnik

If brodie csn regain his form, and smith can be sbove average in net, they should be back in the playoffs

Great trade by the blues to get RoR as well

2019 1st which should be in the 18-31 range, 2021 2nd

Sobotka and berglund are decent depth guys but dumping 7.8m salary back to buffalo allows them to still make moves if needed

Thompson a good prospect but that they were all to keep robert thomas, kyrou, and kostin is a huge win

Blues have upgraded on moving stastny last year, and brought bsck perron as well, nice quick reload

Central gonna be crazy again next year with them, the jets, the preds, and i like the stars to bounce back, wild should be there abouts, and chicago.....

Dont quite get it from buffalo, they didnt need to dump salary, ror still just 28 matches up with their timeline

Ror can play wing too so they could have used him there and still let middlestat play top 6 center

They seemed in a rush to move him, tsn and snet have been all over this for weeks, maybe he wanted out
James the real deal neal a calgary flame
James Neal signed a five-year, $28.75 million contract with the Calgary Flames on Monday. It has an average annual value of $5.75 million. I guess VGK GM George McPhee figured just TOO much money and TOO long term for a 31 year old player no matter HOW well he played last season. that is now TWO of the VGK "Top Guns" that have moved on after that unreal first season

I am starting to wonder WHAT McPhee is planing. already passed on my "wish list" players Devante Smith-Pelly who re-signed with the Capitals, his linemate Jay Beagle who went to Vancouver, D-man Ian Cole who signed with Colorado and goalie Jonathan Bernier who went to Detroit. he better NOT screw it up with top VGK "must sign" RFA's like William Karlsson, Shea Theodore and Tomas Nosek.

The Chicago Blackhawks signed 38 year old forward Chris Kunitz to a one-year contract and defenseman Brandon Manning to a two-year deal Sunday

McPhee should get Erik Karlsson.

Tsn reporting tonight that ottawa is letting some teams talk contract with him, and he wants 7x11, same as doughty

Vegas, tampa, sj all rumored to be in

Vegas only one that could take ryans contract easily, i think he ends up there

I never understand rebuilding teams giving multi year deals to 3rd and 4th line players and Vancouver signed a few of those deals.

Hate all the signings, going to keep some young prospects out of the lineup too

The term on beagle and roussell is nuts, at least roussell is still in his 20s, beagle will be 36 and with a nmc

Monday July 2nd: Joe Thornton signed a one-year contract with the San Jose Sharks on Monday. It is the second straight year Thornton, who turned 39 on Monday, signed a one-year contract to stay in San Jose. Financial terms were not disclosed. also Tomas Hertl signed a four-year contract with the San Jose Sharks on Monday. Financial terms were not released. the 24 year old RFA had a career season and led the Sharks with six goals in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. had nine points in 10 games. GOOD signings San Hoser :shake:

forgot to add that San Hoser also signed top center Logan Couture to an eight-year, $64 million contract extension last Saturday. guarantees he will finish his career with the Sharks :)

A one year deal at 650k is a steal for a guy with real talent.

Ya if he can get right hes a good 2nd liner with a ton of speed

Columbus could be very interesting this summer, with the bread man saying he wont re sign, they have to move him, return should be huge

Friedman said on 31 thoughts the canes are likely to move faulk, they are loaded on d

Blackhawks want him but wouldnt give up saad

Saturday July 7th: D-man Colin Miller signed a four-year, $15.5 million contract with the Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday. The contract has an average annual value of $3.875 million
