New guy seeking help

Pretty much a regular
Hey everyone I am new to CTG and this is my second year with sports betting online. I am just wondering everyones opinion or suggestions on the ways the have found easiest to win bets i.e. parlays, teasers, straight bets, etc. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Good luck to everyone this season

i will tell u right now,an im sure some of tha other greats around here will back me on this. put ur main focus on straight bets only. i was told along time ago teasers/parlays an that shit is for suckers. if ur gonna make plays on teasers an parlays always make those plays much smaller than a normal side or total play. remember to keep managing your money a high priority, if u start out a saturday bad dont push all in on a late night game. try to keep all bets tha same amount, have a good strategy, be smart wit ur money, and coattail shsuhorn, an u will have a winning season.

I sort of agree with Trupicker. Teasers are for suckers, but you can also be profitable with them. As long as you dont do like 4 or 5 team teasers. If you feel like a game is gonna be close, then to tease it from +3.5 to +10.5 in my mind is beneficial, especially if the team you are teasing against isnt a high scoring offense. I mix my plays up. I dont do many parlays at all, but I agree straight betting is the best way to go. Good luck..

Straight bets only. If you have to follow an urge to play a teaser or parlay, don't put a lot of money on it.

This should be a good year to play crazy ass + moneyline dogs if you have the discipline to take 10 in a row on the chin at any given time lol.

Straight bets are really the only way to go, along with good ML bets. Leave longshot MLs, parlays, and teasers alone.

It's bad enough to lay 5-10% juice per bet. But imagine doing it and not getting true odds for multiple winners. That's playing teasers and parlays in a nutshell. You are getting negative EV on every bet.

Some of the tips that I've learned in my past 2 years sportsbetting (that's right, I only have one more year experience than you) are:

1. It's called "betting", but that's not what should happen if you want to beat the book and win. You need to INVEST, there is a difference and you need to stick to it. Never bet (wager just for action) and never gamble. Invest.
2. Never place a wager drunk.
3. Never place a wager just to have action on a game or a day.
4. Have multiple books at your disposal. Shop for the best line and juice.
5. Enjoy the game and be a fan while watching the game. But try to remember key details that will help you in the future.
6. Never place a wager as a fan. Place a wager only because you believe it has positive EV.
7. Only place wagers on sports that you are familiar with and have researched.

Good luck this year. If you're like me you will do alot better your second year.

One thing i learned was when a game was to good to be true, it usually is. If the public is huge on one side, and the line isnt moving, go find another play..youll save a lot of money

I completely agree with what rjurewitz says. Although the tips he gave I break them a good majority of the time.

For the most part I only bet Money Lines in football and basketball, but I will on occasion do a 2 or 3 team ML parlay on teams that I'm confident they'll win, but I'm not sure by how much. Teams like Pittsburgh, Gonzaga, and Wisconsin almost always win SU at home regardless of who they're playing so on occasion I might do a ML parlay... Teasers are the devil if you ask me. I've made about 20 of them in my life, and I'd won less than 5. They look so good, but they really aren't.

I've been guilty too and will be again in the future, too. But you have to try not to break them if you want to reach peak potential.

uncballa,

straight bets only...don't pay a lot of juice...pay with books that at least offer once a month free payouts...get yourself a good cable package/ direct TV package (with Tivo or a DVR) and DSL internet connection...the rest you'll learn on sites like these and on game days...GL to you...

you could parlay florida, osu, and west virginia ML it would be like finding some money on the ground in the first week.

Great thoughts from all posters so far..

here's some random thoughts of my own.

-Read. Read and read some more. Check a lot of threads here and read other stuff and make an informed decision.
-Don't just tail. Read the great cappers thoughts and make your own decision
-Find your specialties and focus on them more
-Take breaks from time to time. It helps refresh you and you will enjoy the games more
-No drunken betting. Never works out all that well. LOL
-Accept fact that you are gonna lose games..a lot of them. The key is winning a bit more than you use.
-Find a low-juice sportsbook. Obviusly a lot of us use Pinny. It is a world of difference
-Don't bet just cause a game is on.

My last two points somewhat tie in together

Many will say don't bet as a fan. That is correct but if you can leave emotions aside and judge your favorite team(s) from both sides then you have yourself an effective capping tool. You will have an abundance of information and will prolly get better and better as time goes.

Many times in college sports...its best to concentrate on a(or a few) conferences. You will know the goings on and be connected with a smaller sample of teams. Smaller conferences are real good for this.

my only suggestion is

ONLY BET WHAT YOU CAN AFFORD TO LOSE.

you are alot more successful that way, otherwise you bet scared.

With this method, you can drink all you want:cheers:

I wish i could say i subscribe to this method, but you give me a good college reverse I believe in, and I'll be a hurtin if I go down.
