Been a while fellas... rough season.
One big one for me this weekend Lean BYU tonight but not sure I get involved. If this line falls more I may add more:
Stanford -4 -108 three units
This one sets up nicely on so many levels, I'm not sure where to begin. We'll start with the player everyone is talking about - Beav's QB Sean Mannion. He's not going under anyone's radar anymore as the highest rated passer in the NCAA this season. But let's take a look at his opponents to see how he got there. So far The Beavers have played:
CAL (93), WSU (81), COL (117), SDSU (39), UTAH (36), and HAW (41)
The number in parenthesis is where each team's defense ranks in yards allowed per game this season. Stanford's D is 20th. So this is by far the best defense he's seen all season.
Oregon St is a very one dimensional offense who gains most of their yards through the air. A deeper look at Stanford's defense shows they are 85th against the pass (yds allowed), but that number is skewed by the games vs. ASU and Wazzu. Ironically the teams who put up a ton of yards against them through the air, were teams they beat ATS by over a TD.
But the biggest reason to like the Tree this weekend is the mismatch on the lines. Stanford's lines should be able to push Oregon St's guys all over the field in the second half of this one, dominate TOP, and put Mannion on his back.
Stanford matches up nearly perfectly against these guys and while the Beavs may contend for a while, I see Stanford coasting in the second half, covering the opening line and winning this by two scores +.
