My two cents on the National Championship game

Wiretowire

Pretty much a regular
I was away this last weekend so I missed the discussions. So here is my take on the games after this last regular season weekend. Understand that I am a fan of noone and I only look at this as a bettor. My opinion is unbiased so it will probably piss off those fans that are in here. That being said here is my opinion:

Ohio State will win the National Championship this year. The reasons for this statement are many:

1. Alabama, to me, is the best team in college football but because they were bounced from the SEC championship the only way they play for the National Championship is if 2 of the following games end like this. Duke over Fla St, Mich St over Ohio State, Missouri over Auburn. I think we will see one of these happen but not 2. So Alabama is not in the final game.

2. Florida State has a good QB but I don't believe they were or will be challenged all year. Clemson and Miami were in my opinion over rated when FSU beat them. FSU is good but Ohio State is too big for them and has, in my opinion, more weapons than FSU.

3. Everyone is looking the wrong way. The entire country is discussing Auburn, Alabama, and Florida State. But everyone is ignoring Ohio State. If Fla State plays OSU in the final you and I both know FSU will be a 13 or 14 point favorite and that's ridiculous because FSU hasn't played anyone to be worth that big of a spread. It's all been hype in my opinion. I would love to be an ignored huge dog in the final rather than the pressure the media will put on FSU, or Auburn or whovever.

4. Most of the "experts" are saying that OSU sqeaked by an inferior Michigan team. True, but they are not counting the fact that this was a very HUGE rivalry played in Michigan. Michigan was more hyped for this game than any team OSU could possibly play in the final.

5. I don't even know why people are talking about Auburn to begin with. Florida St or Alabama yes, but Auburn? Looking at them objectively they won their last two games on last play miracles. This team can't beat Ohio State if they get in the final. Sorry they aren't good enough.

6. Urban Meyer.

GL

Urban Meyer is a genius. Why stay in the SEC and take the hard way of getting to the NC when he can take over a storied program who has the pick of the litter. Whether they make it or not, we better get used to Ohio St as they have a great chance at running the tables EVERY year.

The early line on a potential FSU/tOSU matchup is FSU -9.5, according to a few different twitter posts that referenced the Vegas casinos which have the lines up.

Wire - not arguing anything here, more of a question. You mention FSU hasn't really played anyone, who has Ohio St played that's better than anyone who FSU has played on your opinion?

Mags, I am the only person in the country that thinks the Big 10 is stronger overall than the ACC. GL

I didn't know they were already favored by only 9. But I think it might go up after OSU plays close to Mich St and FSU destroys Duke. GL

Wiretowire, what state do you live in?

U got mizzou over aubbie on sat?

It wouldn't surprise me. Mizzou's WRs will give AU's defense all kinds of trouble. Mizzou's DL should keep them from running up the middle all day. I'd wager that their DL is better than Bama's. Plus, even with it being the conference championship, this will be a let down for AU. Alabama is their Super Bowl every year. In the AU football complex, "Beat Bama" is painted on the meeting room walls. The fans around here are more excited to have prevented Alabama from winning another championship than they are with actually winning the West. Just the way this rivalry works. I know players and coaches aren't the fans, but I think there is definitely a looking past Missouri aspect as well. I've lost too much money the last 4 weeks betting against these two teams, so I'll likely stay away, but I don't think AU winning is a foregone conclusion

smart, smart man

agree about mizzou's receivers running wild, but disagree about mizzou's d-line. i don't think they are going to be able to hold aburn's run game for 4 quarters. and i don't think mizzou's d-line is better than bama's. i think gus's formations and game plan are what gives auburn the advantage running the ball. he makes it very difficult to guess where the play is going. with all that being said, i'm on auburn and the over. good luck, ya'll.

The issue with Alabama's DL is that it relies on a NT that occupies 2 OL and plugs the middle. Brandon Ivory hasn't been that good all year, and was especially ineffective Saturday, especially after he got hurt. Usually, the talent at LB covers up for this deficiency, but with AU's misdirection, our LBs were playing slow trying to diagnose the play rather than hit the gaps they were supposed to. Mizzou has a four man front I think, and I think it will be more effective than ours was. AU will get yards, and they will probably win, but I don't think it's slam dunk. I like the over for sure, because AU isn't stopping anyone, least of all those beasts at WR. Should be entertaining. Unfortunately, I was supposed to go and sit in a box for the first time in my life, but AU did what they do best, win on a fluke play. Yes, I'm still bitter

yeah, they run a 4-3, but i think their athletic defensive ends are gonna have trouble stopping this rushing attack. those dudes are sack-monsters, and extremely athletic, but they haven't seen a run-game like this. i don't think it's a guarantee either, but figured it was worth a gamble. sorry to hear about the box not working out, that blows.

You guys who are looking at this "Aubbie only wants to beat the Bams" from a FANS PERSPECTIVE and not the players/coaches perspective. These guys want to win the whole damn thing as well as put as much walking around money in their pockets courtesy of the boosters. They don't really give a damn about everything else.

Totally disagree. The great thing about college athletics is capping the "situational/emotional factor" that comes from players being teenagers and going against opponents they've often known since Pop Warner. A week ago no one believed Auburn could beat Bama...those kids are still walking around campus with their heads in the clouds and being celebrated as giant killers. No way there isn't an emotional letdown going from your most hated rival to a semi-SEC member newcomer like Mizzou. (Hell, Mizzou ain't even considered part of the south.)
And, trust me, those guys have boosters stuffing their pockets and willing to give up their 1st born daughter because they beat Bama.

But, I'm not on Mizzou purely because of this factor, I believe they're the better team.

Mizzou did play the much easier conference slate. Faced UGA right after Gurley and Marshall went out....Faced A&M last game of the year when the game was meaningless to A&M, lost to SC, skipped Bama and LSU. A&M ran for over 5 ypc last week. I think MU needs 30+ to win....their O struggled big time last week against the worst D in the SEC, at home, in their biggest game of the year. Just thoughts.....

Carolina, I am in Akron, Ohio. But not a fan of any particular team. GL

:shake:

ok. after last week's (veiled) pro-ohio st thread (on top of this one) i was gonna call bullshit, but will leave it alone.

this whole thing isn't worth arguing about. the system is poor...so what better way to close the shit out (and move onto the next, somewhat less poor, system), then with an ohio st win/appearance in the BCS champ game?

anyhow, will withhold my 2 cents...as i've got very little that's positive to add, other than this is the outcome we have to live with.
it's funny how football, or any sport, can play out though. a failed 2 pt conversion by a very average team allows one team to backdoor the champ game...while a failed FG attempt against a more prepared team keeps another team from the champ game.
love or hate the results/consequences...on one level...you gotta appreciate/enjoy the unpredictability of sports/games, in general.

Ding, Ding. This isnt just big emotional win against the hated rival, does everyone forget they off two miracle wins in a row? Hail Mary Georgia was a couple short weeks ago. Not only is mizzu the better team, these guys are emotionall strained.

auburn can run on eeryone

No doubt. Loved going for two, bro...just hated the call/execution. (In football for idiots I was taught that if you only need 3 yds got to get the QB out of the pocket with run/throw option.)

If we see upsets by MSU and Mizzou, wouldn't put it past BCS finding some way to pair FSU/Bama...and I still think a 1 loss Bama would be slight favorites.

Yanks, I think you are overthinking my threads. If I were a true Ohio State fan I would have no problem whatever saying "Ohio State is the greatest team on the planet and they will always win everything!!!!!!" If that were the case why would I hesitate? Why would I veil anything? Others certainly don't. (Just ask Bloodhound about Alabama)

I post my threads to present a different point of view if I think I have found one. This thread is intended to be about gambling and not overlooking a team that is seriously flying below every ones radar. Nothing more than that and where I live has nothing to do with it. But of course if you think it does matter then I would not listen to anything I ever said about Ohio State because taking a fans advice about betting on their favorite team is the single worst thing anyone could ever do. GL

I will say Wire has never seemed to be a fan of any particular team, and is particularly critical of the Cleveland pro teams. Not sure how anyone could find anything wrong with those teams, but he digs deep and finds their ugly underbellies. He may lean a little White Sox, that's about it.

LMAO Tip. I do have to admit to a small soft spot with the White Sox. They suck but... GL

Elbutre, I am seriously worried about you with that statement. GL :)

Do you know of any other program that has "Beat (insert rival name)" painted on the walls in the football complex? Or any other sport? I'm not trying to be arrogant or whatever, it is what it is. I know that it is mainly the fans, but the players have to go to class with the fans. No doubt they are still getting standing ovations when they go to class, autograph requests from teachers, and banging every white girl from Montgomery to Opelieka. It may not affect the game Saturday at all, but I think it could certainly play a role. The coaches will do their best to minimize it or eliminate it, but these are 18-22 year olds that have been watching replays of "the greatest ending of any sporting event ever" every time they turn on ESPN.

gotta agree w/gps here. it's a factor. but to what extent is the real question. these guys would run through a wall for gus, just gotta wonder how he wipes the memory bank of a bunch of 20 year old kids who are undoubtedly riding high on the hog right now.

The Auburn AD said it would be "un-American" to not send a 1-loss SEC team to the championship game. Ohio State's a lot of things, but un-American??

y'all call it what you want, but I'll call it a "let down" spot.
