All these huge payrolls and seeing these guys underperform against motivated underdogs is just one of the more minor things that make Soccer interesting.

North Macedonia beating Italy a few years ago also exemplified the underdog spirit.

The fans are not very forgiving either and openly accuse the team in very specific terms/exigencies of "intolerable lack of attention to detail" not unlike this disaster a few years back

Smaller size squads now finally a reality in a smaller teams league; PSG boat raced their closest competitors last year in Ligue 1; which may have been at least a small factor that allowed them to more eclectically select non-league squad composition.

The expensive hardware PSG puts on the pitch is moving at full speed just like the mere mortals from clubs with less expensive players and injuries now demand a more judicious use of available resources... i don't think any manager on the continent relishes going against the frustratingly impish players from portugese squads or the portugese national team.

Everyone has to sit back and shut up for a while since PSG and their big contracts finally silenced all criticism from prior years in light of what happened last year on the International stage; no one wondering any longer which PSG team would "show up" for the days' fixtures; the motivated squad or the squad that just felt their level of high-priced talent would seal a victory before the game had even been played.

The clubs with higher payrolls have always had an extra incentive to invest in the latest convalescence & medical advances and get even a minimal improvement in facilitating slightly quicker turnaround times from injuries.
