I uncovered a bit of tempering news in the aftermath of the Trail Blazers' surprisingly impressive 116-105 victory over the Denver Nuggets Sunday night.
LaMarcus Aldridge, the Blazers' leading scorer and rebounder, probably will not play Monday when the Blazers host the New Orleans Hornets at the Rose Garden. Aldridge, who has missed the past four games with plantar fasciitis in his right foot, said last week that he hoped to return in time to play the Hornets.
Instead, coach Nate McMillan said Aldridge likely will work out at the Blazers' morning shootaround and, perhaps, work out again prior to the game. McMillan will gage Aldridge's health and evaluate his play during the workouts and determine when the 6-foot-11 forward should return.
Aldridge has worn an immobilizing boot on his sore right foot since undergoing a magnetic resonance imaging test last Monday.
"My plan is not to play him (Monday) and it's not because we're playing well," McMillan said. "He hasn't practiced. He's been in that boot for a week and he hasn't done anything on the floor. I would like to see him run in a practice first."
The Blazers, to great surprise, have not missed Aldridge's 18.7 points and 7.7 rebounds, registering four wins in four games against challenging opponents' Denver, Golden State and Utah (twice).
So even though McMillan left himself a little wiggle room, saying "maybe he's a game-time decision," the odds seem slim that Aldridge will see action against the Hornets.
"I don't expect him to play," McMillan said.
