I don't get the Brewers price at all. Give me the pitcher in better (at least more consistent) form and the home team at anything + money.

Hard to see WAS/PHI staying under although I certainly think this matchup could have been priced at 9.5. Small lean to the Phillies. Interesting line in Arizona, makes me think the Snakes are the right side. Detroit is at their worst against lefties and away. I think the Tribe is worth investigating here. Marlins are intriguing. They really outplayed STL today and were pretty unlucky not to win. Gotta think you get great effort here at home.

That Phillies Total will be 9.5 before it's all over...

Love the over in that one
.

Everyone is on that over, rightfully so. But, just the fact that no one is on the under scares me. Im playing the over on principle.

"sharps" probably hitting the under at that point...fact is, if "everyone" loved the over it should move off the 9 relatively quickly, but if it doesn't you'd wonder wouldn't you?

He means such an "obvious" Over is going to get action, and if the line doesn't move to reflect that action then it means the books are taking a position that isn't a favourable sign for the long term prospects of that Over cashing.

But I could be wrong.

The juice was rising though. I looked earlier and it was -115. Was up to -125 last I checked.

That's less relevant, imo, than their not being willing to give potential Under backers that extra .5 run.

I agree. My point was just that it is moving in the over direction, it just hasn't moved off the number (though it probably will at some point today). I wanted to play before it moved. Seems like a public play, but I have confidence in my capping ability to make plays that differ from "sharp" plays.

I don't get it..

I hit this last night @ -108, its now -125 everywhere.. How much more movement do you guys want?

consensus sites have this total @ 65% to the over.. Line has moved up 12-17 cents across the board.. Sounds right to me.

Line movement right before game starts will be telling as well. Thats when I expect 9.5 to appear.

Since Pittsburgh got swept on the road in LA (Apr 5-7) to begin the season, they're 6-1 SU off consecutive losses (their sole loss the only time they failed to score a run).

Pittsburgh off a SU loss this season...
has gone 19-3 SU when they've scored at least 3 runs in their next game
has gone 4-7 SU when they've scored 0-2 runs in their next game

has gone 21-5 SU when they've conceded 0-4 runs in their next game
has gone 2-5 SU when they've conceded at least 5 runs in their next game

has gone 11-2 SU as the Fav in their next game
has gone 12-8 SU as the Dog in their next game

has gone 13-1 SU when their next game has been @home
has gone 10-9 SU when their next game has been on the road

------

Oakland is 3-11 SU (avg TT 2.85 rpg) in their last 14 instances of playing on the road anywhere other than @Houston, off a SU road win. These games have gone 9-5 to Under (avg. 7.57 rpg).

Oakland is 2-4 SU in road Game 1s vs. +.500 teams (conceded 8, 9, 7 & 8 run totals in losses, as opposed to 0 & 2 run totals in wins).

really hard not like that phils over, good get if ya got it early...i know im prob crazy but ive taken a real liking to the over in pit, ive seen locke so many times where im left thinking "how the hell did he end up with a QS in that gm?" then his last outing in philly if it wasnt for phils inability to cash in chances that could have been bad, i think this guy in for a reality check and oak bats are good enough to deliver it, just no way with the amount of guys he walking and his under 2 to 1 k rate is this guy gonna keep that sub 3 era for long imo.. colon another story, while i think regression inevitable with him seems way harder to judge when it coming? dude baffles me at times, scrubbies should have put up at least 4 on him and couldnt (of coarse that the scrubbies), it helps i have a slight pit lean cause i do believe oak will score 4 tonight and if buccos are to win clearly over hits in that situation. the ov 7.5 at nice plus tempting as hell but i think 7 is very safe as i see push at worst on that number..

anyone know exact record of teams throwing a pitcher who threw a no-no or perfect game in their previous start

Thing I hate most about the Phils/Nats Over is the fact that each team is bringing significant Over runs into a game...

Phils are 5-0 to Over L5, 13-2 to Over last 15.

Nats are 4-0 to Over L4, 9-5-1 to Over L15 (still only a 33% Under rate)

You've also got the fact they're 5-1 to Over against each other in previous meetings this season.

...that means the stats on paper re the straight match-up get this tasty sauce dolloped all over them, going to make them shine & sparkle even more than they do. What does that matter, you ask? Surely it's the underlining reason that makes the play - both sets of bats are cooking.

Not long back there was this match-up that took place in Baltimore (you know, a venue with dimensions made for runs):

Garcia (4.61 era @the time) vs Haren (5.43 era @the time)

Balty was 7-0-1 to Over their L8, 11-2-1 to Over their L14

Wash was 6-0 to Over their L6, 15-7-1 their L23 (still only a 30% Under rate)

Does this look familiar? Guess the score...

2-0 to Baltimore. Both starters in their next starts went immediately back to sucking (Haren 5 ER given up in 4.0 IP, Garcia 6 ER given up in 3.0 IP), but in those 2 later starts their respective teams didn't enter with any long Over streaks intact.

This smells a lot like deja vu to me. I kept away from that Bal/Was game because I hate taking my favourite kind of baseball bet when 2 teams (not just 1) both bring in significantly lengthy Over streaks to a shitty pitching match-up. I'd post I'll steer clear here too, but because I have live betting I'll only pass on a pre-game bet. I'll see how they start inside the game then deal with totals betting from there.

I remember that game. And I certainly see the similarities. The surpising thing was Garcia carved up the Nats. Vs Haren giving up 8 hits in 7 IP, but the Oreos just not being able to get the big hit. That Nats team had no Rendon, no Harper, no Ramos, no Werth.

I think part of the reason we see the 9 is the Nats (statistically) have the worst offense in the league vs. lefty pitching. I've talked extensively about it, but I don't buy the numbers and rate the Nats offense a lot higher. (id be really pumped to see Hairston make his way to the park and start tonight)

Vs. Lefties (OPS):

Span- .415
Rendon- .839
Harper- .653
Zimmerman- .953
Laroche- .617
Werth- .782
Desmond- .844
Ramos- .517 (limited at bats, career .827)

The only lefties in the lineup tonight will likely be span, Harper, Laroche. Lannon vs. righties on the year .331/.385/.483. The other factors are that the game is in the bandbox. The phils bullpen is terrible and the over is still in play even if Lannan labors through 5 giving up only a run or 2. The Nats bullpen before the 7th has been struggling at times this year as well.

Depending on how much stock you put into this, but there is an iphone home run weather app. It's gives an index on how favorable the weather conditions are for homeruns at a particular time. Just FYI, the Phils game has a 10 (most favorable) for 7-9 pm where it drops to an 8 for the remainder of the night.

Utilizing sophisticated math and physics, meteorologists and software engineers at The SI Organization, Inc. have investigated this topic, which mixes science and baseball. And the results of their efforts are now available in a real time baseball weather application, Home Run Weather 2012. Developed for the iPhone, iPad and Android devices, the app relates live temperature, atmospheric pressure, humidity, field orientation, wind direction, wind speed and the drag coefficient of a baseball to the user to determine if local weather conditions, for any big league park, are favorable for home runs being hit. Twenty-four hour forecasts are available in addition to live weather.
Two approaches were combined to arrive at a “home run favorability” index, which the app displays on a scale of 0 to 10 (least-to-most favorable). The first approach was to analyze actual weather conditions and home run data over the past four seasons (Citizens Bank Park was chosen as the venue for this study). The second approach uses a theoretical, NASA-style, physics-based model that determines the distance a ball will travel based on the temperature, relative humidity and atmospheric pressure.
The Citizens Bank Park study yielded some interesting, but perhaps not too surprising, findings. First, temperatures and dew points had a clear trend line relationship with home runs, as generally more home runs were hit in hot and humid air than colder, less-humid air. It was also found that 13-percent more home runs were hit when the wind was blowing out than other wind conditions. Additionally, 6-percent more home runs were hit in the daytime as compared to nighttime games.
The results produced by Home Run Weather 2012 have been quite encouraging. The low home run favorability index values (0-3) have had an average of 1.56 home runs per game so far this season. The moderate index values (4-7) have had an average of 1.78. And the high values (8- 10) have had an average of 2.48 home runs per game.
Whether you're a fan at the park who's interested in a home run forecast, a spirited fantasy owner or baseball analyst, Home Run Weather 2012 should provide some useful information and conversation material. For more details, visit The SI Weather website.

Dollaz...been using that weather app this year myself...very accurate hitting conditions...I think it works better at certain venues

Dollaz...been using that weather app this year myself...very accurate hitting conditions...I think it works better at certain venues

You may be right. I know it was originally tested in Citizens park so that is one of the venues I put a lot of faith in.

Right, so the point here is that that's the very nature of baseball. One guy can surprise, while the other team gets the hits but scatters them.

That Nats team had no Rendon, no Harper, no Ramos, no Werth.

...and despite missing those players in the 6 preceeding games (except Harper played in 3 of the 6) that Nats team still bought a hot streak of hitting to that game (6-0 to Over, averaging 5.16 team rpg).

I'm not saying this can't come in, just the Balt/Wash example I've brought up is only the most recent occasion I can point to out of many where I've seen this happen before (I remember an ESPN Sun. niter that had 5 DPs cause an Over like this to fall short by 1 run, aided by literally a ton of stranded baserunners. How often do you get 5 DPs?). I'd much rather both these teams entered this game with ice cold bats: it's this type of situation that sets up cold bats getting warm again, when people aren't scared to take an Under despite having to trust 2 "shitters" on the mound.

My last thoughts: Washington on the road vs. a competitive a division rival this season hasn't had a game total more than 9 runs - 5, 9, 2, 4, 5, 3, 9, 9, 6 & 8 runs (first 6 vs Braves, last 3 vs Philly). These 2 teams are 5-1 to Over against each other this season, but no game has totaled more than 9 runs. Nats are off a 10+ run team total, always a negative sign for any team in their next game (it's a perennial set-up point for a drop-off on offense next game. Nats this season off 10+ runs have scored 2, 10 & 0 as a decent Fav everytime, so they were expected to score).

There's just too much inertia for me to like here, esp. also when you don't know the Ump. You could get a BS zone master, and then it's almost over (as it were) before it's begun.

These two pitchers actually faced each other June 17th. Phils won 5-4. I won the first 5 over in that game. Got a lucky win in the game total as Tracy hit a PH homer in the 9th off Papelbon. On that Nats side, that game had Kobernus (for Span), Lombo (Harper), Marrero (Laroche). The Phils had Howard in that game (which he hit a long homer).

Lannans nibbling is likely to see him leave early. The Nats have several guys that see a lot of pitches. That leaves the Phil pen to have to get several outs before getting to Papelbon (who blew 2 saves in that last series)

respect your opinion. This is a standard play for me. Certainly not gonna be extremely surprised if it's a 5-3 game where both pens get through the 6-9 innings.

BOL, I might well end up on some sort of Over in-game (thou the Ump will have to be right). Just too many Qs for me prior to seeing any play on the field.

When do we find out the ump in Phi lly?

Yes I am in the over club tonight for numerous reasons. The ball is flying out of the stadium right now. The phils manager Elmer fudd pitches the shit outta his pen.. never saw a manager nightly use like 5 reliever and when u have a terrible pen such as Philly u are asking every reliever to be on point. Yesterday it was bastardo who gave up a few late. Figure the pen will have to cover 4 innings. Really like my chances

Thats a good point. Papelbon threw 25 pitches yesterday. Bastardo threw 24. Nats pen should have just about everybody available.

Homer is on 5 days rest

Can we stop talking about the Nats game? I don't have any interest in it

-management

Its a large wager for me but I agree, its like there are no other games on the board.. LOL..

We're all focused on this one.

BTW, lol...

Phil over is now 9.5 pretty much everywhere.. 9 -131 @ 5 dimes.

Win or lose, great price most of received.. If this wager wins or loses, I'll feel good about beating a line by this much.

Monday's abbreviated MLB schedule has 13 games instead of the usual 15, but that doesn't mean it lacks great pitching. Quite the contrary actually, as 11 Monday starters are owned in at least 97 percent of ESPN.com fantasy leagues: Derek Holland, Max Scherzer, Bartolo Colon, Jeff Locke, Mike Minor, Matt Garza, Homer Bailey, Zack Greinke, Jon Lester, Felix Hernandez and Matt Harvey. To sit any of these guys in any fantasy format would just be silly. There are two other majority-owned pitchers taking the hill on Monday, too: Kyle Lohse (56 percent) and Tim Lincecum (74 percent). While Lohse has been on fire in his past six starts (3-0, 1.72 ERA, 0.90 WHIP) and warrants "must-start" fantasy status, I still believe the struggling Lincecum (1-7, 5.23 ERA in past nine starts) is worthy of a start in all fantasy formats facing the lowly New York Mets at home. He has won five straight starts versus the Mets, tallying a 0.79 ERA and 10.1 K/9 during this streak. As for the rest of the pitchers, below are five others who are available in at least 80 percent of the ESPN.com universe, and all are 30 years old or younger:
Hector Santiago (3 percent ESPN.com fantasy ownership) continues to be grossly undervalued this season. In 10 starts, the left-hander is 3-3 with a 3.36 ERA, .220 opponents' BA and 10.2 K/9, fanning 64 batters in 56 1/3 innings. Santiago is still walking too many batters (4.3 BB/9) but he's facing a free-swinging Chicago Cubs team on Monday that has the sixth-fewest free passes in baseball (2.5 per game). In the past eight games, the Cubs have drawn a mere 17 walks, leading to a paltry .280 OBP. Santiago has never started against his crosstown rival in his young career, but he's thrown quality outings in three of his home starts this season, racking up 29 K's in 21 2/3 innings. Pick up the 25-year-old Santiago for all fantasy formats on Monday.
Tyler Chatwood (12 percent ESPN.com fantasy ownership) has not seen his season ERA rise above 3.00 since his first start of the year, which is a remarkable feat for a Colorado Rockies pitcher. And while he has done a decent job pitching at Coors Field with a 4.01 ERA and two homers allowed in 33 2/3 innings, his road numbers have been just phenomenal. In four away starts in 2013, the 23-year-old is 2-1 with a 0.82 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, .218 opponents' BA and 7.0 K/9. On Monday he'll face the ice-cold San Diego Padres, who are 2-12 in their past 14 contests with a total of 38 runs (2.7 per game) and a painful slash of .225/.274/.345. As long as he is pitching outside of Denver, Chatwood is worthy of a start in the majority of fantasy leagues.
I'm not sure why Randall Delgado is owned in just 0.2 percent of ESPN.com fantasy leagues right now. The 23-year-old has not allowed more than three earned runs in any of his four starts, in which he's sported a 3.24 ERA and 7.9 K/9. The .302 opponents' BA and five homers allowed in these four outings are a bit troubling, but at least the youngster is challenging hitters with just four walks in 25 innings. The reason he's not higher in the above daily rankings is that he's facing the smoking-hot Los Angeles Dodgers, who have scored 5.3 runs per game during an 11-3 surge. At this point, Delgado is only suitable for larger fantasy leagues, but he certainly has the potential to become an "any-league" starter very soon.
Phil Hughes (19 percent ESPN.com fantasy ownership) was likely very happy that Hiroki Kuroda was healthy enough to start Sunday against the Baltimore Orioles, pushing Hughes back to Monday versus the Kansas City Royals. Not only are the O's fourth in the majors in runs (4.8 per game), while the Royals rank 18th in scoring (4.1 runs per game), but Hughes has been much more successful against K.C. recently. Since 2010, Hughes is a perfect 5-0 in five starts versus the Royals, throwing four quality starts in that span. Compare that to mound opponent Jeremy Guthrie, who is 4-9 with a 5.15 ERA in his career against Hughes' New York Yankees. The 27-year-old Hughes is also catching fire with two straight excellent starts, holding the Texas Rangers and Minnesota Twins to just three runs and 14 baserunners in 15 innings. The inconsistency of Hughes prevents him from being a reliable fantasy play in smaller leagues, but for formats with 14-plus owners or AL-only formats, go ahead and pick him up.
Speaking of inconsistent, it's difficult to know what to expect from Edinson Volquez (2 percent ESPN.com fantasy ownership) any more. But after issuing seven walks in 5 2/3 innings to the Dodgers on June 22, he has been in total control. In these two starts since -- versus the Boston Red Sox and Miami Marlins -- he has 14 strikeouts and just two walks more than 12 innings, allowing a total of three runs. I was a lot higher on the right-hander before researching how poorly he's done against the Rockies in his career (7.03 ERA, 1.91 WHIP), and especially this season against them (11 2/3 IP, 26 H, 19 ER), but most of that damage has come at Coors Field, and the Rox have been dreadful on the road recently. In their past 11 away games, they are 2-9 with 29 runs (2.6 per game) and a .228 BA/.262 OBP/.351 SLG. Again, don't count on the 30-year-old Volquez as a long-term solution to cure your fantasy pitching ills, but for extremely deep leagues or larger NL-only formats, I think he'll provide a quality start with at least six strikeouts on Monday.
