Pretty basic today backing Skenes. Pepiot is no slouch, but he did allow 6 hits to light hitting Colo. Speaking of light hitting, that's the reason you should not load up on Skenes in this one because of the Pirate offense. The guy could through 8 perfect innings and still be a scoreless game when he leaves, and Pitt loses 1-0. But you have to back him here at great road odds of only -120. Too early to tell if he is going to have an off year (sophomore jinx, it happens) but he wasn't terrible in his first start so I wouldn't expect him to but it would help if they had even two hitters. I wonder who he pitches for after he's traded in two years? NYY or LA. Cy Young winner makes a measly $800,000 a year. GL

For the record Pitt just signed Heaney who is a bum to a 1 year contract for $5 million and they leave Skenes out in the cold? Pitt gets what they deserve. GL

I agree Peel. I can't believe they didn't extend this kid at least a 4 year contract. You can tell in interviews Skenes is pissed off. But then their sport writers will whine when the players leave. GL

Worse imo, don’t get me wrong this whole deferred payment stuff is next level asshole even from what the old Yankees did but I rather teams do that than these cock suckers who try to pocket their “welfare checks” from the league as they watch the value their franchises grow expedentually. I love when one these scumbags claims they losing money, maybe they have a creative accounting team who shows they in the red for the year but the seem to forget half these old pricks bought their teams for millions and year after year the value rises more into the billions. Something tells me he making way more than his salary with side stuff, I think he be ok. Not to mention he can prob get any bank to hand him whatever he wants considering he will be worth over 500 mil in the near future. This interesting one for pirates, I’m w you I’m sure he ends up getting traded before the payday comes but usually pirates have stud pitchers their coaching had screwed all up trying to force them to throw sinkers and other crap that doesn’t fit them, then they get rid of the asset for next to nothing and said guy flourishes once he gets competent coaching! This the 1st time they have a kid who they couldn’t ruin!! I have often wondered over the years if Keller woulda been better served getting out of there? He has had a fine career but I’ve always felt his stuff should play better than it has and naturally I assume pirates have him pitching in a manner that doesn’t bring out his best. For years I hoped that they would offer him up in a trade and cardinals could get him but now that cards have decided they are more pirates than one rhe big boys maybe he shoulda went somewhere like houston.

I’m just assuming his agent is Scott boras, in which case there no chance he signing an extension. If he really wanted to take an early deal at any kind of discount (which any deal avoiding free agency would be), and pirates didn’t jump all over it is just insane! He one those rare players that not only wins games but he puts asses in seats and sells merch!

don’t think I ever heard him do a interview, I don’t pay much attention to that stuff, it often on tv or radio but mostly just backround noise for me. doesn’t surprise me and I’m sure pirates will screw it up then try to sell the fans that he was being greedy! Lol.

Far as Keller goes for years pirates coaching preached the pitch to contact and throw sinker approach, I’m not sure if it still the same guys or philosophy but it was very much like cardinals who themselves have traded away or ruined many a good young pitching prospect!! It tends to work really well when they bring in bargain basement vets nearing the end, they get a lot out of them and usually set them up to get 1 more decent payday, good for them. That said you can’t fucking treat the Garrett coles, kellers’s, etc etc of the world the same way you treat a 37 year old who best years behind him!!! Not sure why you would want to turn flame throwers with elite heat and filthy off speed stuff that can’t be touched into sinker ballers pitching to contact?!?!???? I guess I’m just an idiot tho cause they the ones who somehow got jobs doing this! Surely their grandfathers had to play for or own the team? Lol..
