Luka to the Lakers (WTF) + Trade Deadline

And one more question - Dallas have 3 really solid Centers - Gafford, Lively and Powell hardly played this season, but he is solid (in my eyes) - wonder why Lakers didn't insist on getting one of them as well - it's obvious Dallas not going to keep all of them...
If Lakers could get Gafford/Lively it will be huge (assuming health is not an issue)
I'd assume the numbers didn't work out.

This feels like it was brought to life pretty quickly.

And btw... Hachimura hopefully the next one to get traded... talking about a player that doesn't know what's the meaning of the word "defense"...

Yeah, I think someone in Dallas decision making lost a bet or something and had to get rid of Luka in 24 hours :)

Short term LeBron cannot be happy IMO.

Big next 5 days for the Lakers to make the best move.

Like I said, if they can win it this year I get it.

This team, this year, is in better shape.

But, AD has went 1+ years now with no significant injuries. We're really testing fate here!

Long term, you lose a perennial MVP candidate.

I truly believe Bron had no clue. I don't think he approves this trade because this weakens them for THIS season. There has to be another trade, right?

Long term helps out LA.

The biggest part of this though is Dallas could have gotten a better package overall unless AD was their true prize.

Yes. The trade helps the Lakers but it doesn’t do anything for LeCrybaby. Odds he retires had to be north of 50% before this trade…now what are they?

Right right.

Let's see what happens before Thursday before we grade this trade as to how it relates to LeChina.

AD is solid no doubt and solid on both ends of the floor + already has a ring, just like Kyrie. But, yeah... each month AD healthy brings us closer to another injury and that's something that worried me as Lakers fan. Kyrie and AD are perfect fit I think, but they still got too many Centers and I think Kyrie shines when teams not focused on him solely. He hit the title winning shot with Cleveland, when most eyes were on LeBron and he balled with Dallas, when Luka still got the better defender. In Boston we saw his struggles when he was suppose to carry a team and Boston didn't have less talent than Dallas team...
Also, it's huge trade pretty late in to the season and Dallas still haven't even secured play-in spot, not to mention playoff spot - so they can't afford themselves to take much time to glue and Luka wasn't another player - he was Dallas. When he was on the floor, he owned the floor, so it will be hard I think for them to switch the disk (but who knows - maybe it will give others chance to shine).
Overall, I doubt they could have gotten a player of AD's caliber in return - can anyone think of a name? So it's more a question of AD's health (and that's a huge question) and if they made the right choice not to go for rebuild and get a ton of 1st rounders from Oklahoma for example...
Who they could have gotten? Zion and even worse questions about attitude and health? Beal? Embid and his health? Butler maybe the only one, but not sure it's better than AD...

Good stuff.

If Dallas thinks this gets it done this year or next? Go for it.

With that being said -- put the guy on the market and let some packages flow in.

Trying to go back in history and think of a bigger trade?

I think we (Hunt and myself) found a similar one.

Summer trade 1992

Charles to Suns for Hornacek, Perry and Lang.

I think they shouldn't use the word "emergency" so loosely ;)

And I didn't know Suns and Clips were still in the futures market. I think that given huge injuries or trades, they have the same chance to win the ship as the Wizards...
Clippers metrics are not too bad.

Suns should sell this week -- nowhere near a contender

When you depend on Harden to show up in the playoffs and on Kawhi to stay healthy for the playoffs, you're in trouble (more times than not). When the best player on your roster is named Norman Powell on a pretty monster conference like West this season, you're in trouble (don't get me wrong, I like the dude, but don't see him as a franchise player).

Hoping to read tomorrow that Lakers suddenly traded for Danny Avdija to make it perfect for me ;)

Again, I get the sentiment, but I’d like to know…

If you think you can win it this year…who is the best superstar you’d put with Kyrie to bring in?

Embiid is the one that came to mind to me. Maybe Ant, maybe Ja.

But isn’t AD the best player right now that you could bring in this year, and I emphasize, right now…to win if you’re declaring going all in?

Long term is a totally different story.

When was the last time Embiid was healthy in postseason? When was the last time Embiid was healthy period?
If Dallas get healthy AD from now till the end of the season, they are contenders for sure - but that's a big "if" and honestly, if Luka healthy from now till the end of the season, wouldn't they be just as much of a contender? Something happened there. I mean, even if you have doubts about Luka, why not wait to give them another go? I really doubt his value would have got lower, if they waited till summer... Something made them to do it right now - maybe we will know the answer by the end of this deadline for trades and maybe later, but something made them deal right now...

He is amazing, but I can't help wonder, how somewhat that skinny can be that good?! He reminds me of Ingram with his body that appears so thin, as if he never had a decent meal in his lifetime...

Embiid?

He won't be playing fully in May.

Again, don't hate the trade this year.

Dallas has a better chance these next 4 months.

But, you just gave up a franchise player for a guy with a few strong seasons left without even shopping him.

They must win it all this year to make this worth it.

Pretty sure the whole thing is more about not wanting to commit $345m to him and to be fair, the conditioning and commitment could be much bigger a deal than it's being made right now. He could go to LA and just start banging a Kardashian tomorrow and it will all come together. Guy really does love being famous.

Kyrie a FA this summer?

Luka can weigh 350 and still average 30-8-8

I am the furthest thing from an NBA expert but what are the odds of Davis even being available for a playoff run. That guy is just another injury waiting to happen.

Basketball gets me through the winter.
I gave up on following the NBA a few years ago. Its all football and trashing the management of my loser teams for me and of course betting which is mostly on football though I'm starting to bet a lot more tennis.

I've never cared what the players make but these NBA contracts are so insane that I just can't get into the league anymore. I suspect the same thing would happen if the NFL didn't have a hard cap and the QBs started making 100 milion or more a year which is what they would make without the cap.
