6 Lefties take to the hill today

Hamels-Rangers
Matz-Mets
Sale-White Sox
Anderson-Rockies
Reed-Reds
Locke-Pirates

Hamels

Hamels (12-2, 2.84)
has fared much better. The veteran left-hander is on a three-game winning streak and gave up two runs in eight innings during a 3-2 victory over Kansas City last Thursday.
Hamels has been a big help to the Rangers, who have a 16-5 record when he starts. Since the All-Star break, Hamels is 3-0 with a 0.84 ERA.

Sale

Sale, who is 14-4, remains tied for the American League lead in wins despite not recording one in his last three outings. He will be making his second start since serving a five-game team suspension, which he received for cutting up throwback uniforms prior to a scheduled start against the Tigers.
Sale took the loss upon his return against the Cubs on July 28 despite allowing only two runs in six innings.
He is 8-6 with a 3.20 ERA in 26 career outing against the Tigers, including 16 starts. He went 1-1 in two June starts against them this season. He has generally pitched well at Comerica Park, going 3-3 with a 3.53 ERA in 10 career appearances.

Locke

Locke is 8-6, but has a 5.43 ERA and was sent to the bullpen to work things out after a rough start July 20.
Locke made just one relief appearance, throwing two scoreless, and hopes he's back on track.
"Maybe you need to get that fire lit, whatever the case may be," he said.
Locke is 2-2 with a 4.89 ERA in seven career starts against the Braves, the team that drafted him. He worked seven innings in an 8-2 victory in Pittsburgh on May 19.

9 Lefties take to the hill today

Happ-Blue Jays
Pomeranz-Red Sox
Miranda-Mariners
Miley-Orioles
Quintana-White Sox
Smyly-Rays
Santiago-Twins
Moore-Giants
Finnegan-Reds

Happ

Left-hander J.A. Happ (14-3, 3.16 ERA) starts the series finale for the Blue Jays (61-47). Happ is 3-1 with a 3.50 ERA in six starts against the Astros, for whom he went 18-28 with a 4.84 ERA over parts of three seasons following his trade from the Phillies on July 29, 2010.

Moore

Moore, 7-7 with a 4.08 ERA in 21 starts for the Rays this season, was an All-Star in 2013, when he went 17-4 with a 3.29 ERA. He underwent Tommy John surgery the following season, and in 2015 compiled a 3-4 record, with a 5.43 ERA
He has begun to regain his form of late, going 4-2 with a 1.99 ERA in his last six outings with Tampa Bay.

Pomeranz vs Miranda

Mariners lefty Ariel Miranda will make his first Major League start Thursday, matched up with Red Sox southpaw Drew Pomeranz in the series finale at Safeco Field. The Mariners will promote Miranda from Triple-A Tacoma before the game. Seattle acquired him from the Orioles Sunday in exchange for left-handed pitcher Wade Miley. It will be Miranda's second MLB appearance. His first was a three-run, two-inning relief effort in Seattle on July 3. He had a 3.93 ERA over 19 starts in Triple-A Norfolk.Mariners manager Scott Servais said besides watching part of a bullpen session, video and Miranda's outing in Seattle, he doesn't know much about the lefty."It's fastball, breaking ball, pretty good changeup," Servais said. "You're going off scouting reports and hope he throws strikes. That's my biggest thing."Pomeranz is making his fourth start for the Red Sox since the team acquired him from the Padres in exchange for right-handed prospect Anderson Espinoza. Pomeranz has a 3.09 ERA in 20 starts this season.
Red Sox First baseman Hanley Ramirez (left wrist) will still be out of the lineup Thursday. He injured his wrist falling down the dugout steps after Tuesday's 5-4 loss. Miranda may be a rookie, but he has a lot of playing experience. The 27-year-old was in the Cuban National Series for seven years before he defected from Cuba.Pomeranz has yet to claim his first win with Boston. He has a 7.53 ERA with the Sox. He logged a quality start in his second outing, but in his last start he allowed five runs on six hits over 5 1/3 innings against the Angels.

11 Lefties go to the mound today

Lester-Cubs
Kazmir-Dodgers
Liriano-Blue Jays
Keuchel-Astros
Perez-Rangers
Garcia-Cards
Gonzalez-Nats
De LaRosa-Rockies
Friedrich-Padres
Snell-Rays
Overton-A's

Lester

Jon Lester will open the series, and he should feel comfortable at Oakland Coliseum. He called it home briefly in 2014 when he was traded from the Red Sox to the Athletics. The left-hander made 11 starts for the A's that year, posting a 6-4 record and 2.35 ERA as he helped Oakland reach the postseason as a Wild Card team.
Lester picked up his 11th win in his last start, matching his win total last season. He'll be happy to be pitching at Wrigley Field, where he's 6-2 with a 1.99 ERA in 10 games. All have been quality starts.

Liriano

Liriano will make his Blue Jays debut in this start. He had a disappointing first half in Pittsburgh and walked 5.5 batters per nine innings, but his 2.92 ERA with Russell Martin behind the plate is lower than with any other catcher.
Liriano is eager for his reunion with former Pirates catcher Russell Martin. Liriano and Martin were batterymates in 2013-14, two of Liriano's best seasons. Liriano has a 2.92 ERA with Martin behind the plate."I think we're pretty much on the same page," Liriano said. "We have a pretty good connection. We talked before the game, and we have a pretty good idea of what we want to do. He's great behind the plate and he has a pretty idea what the hitter is looking for. He works hard every day, and he motivates a lot of guys. He's one of the best right now."

Keuchel vs Perez

Keuchel takes the mound against a team that’s had his number recently. The reigning Cy Young winner has posted a 0-3 record and 7.91 ERA in three starts against the Rangers this season.

Perez allowed one run in seven innings against the Royals on Saturday but didn't get a decision. He is 1-6 with a 5.95 ERA in 11 starts on the road this season. He is 5-2 with a 1.88 ERA in seven career starts against the Astros

The importance of the matchups with Texas are compounded by what the teams did before Monday's non-waiver Trade Deadline. The Rangers bolstered their lineup with Carlos Beltran and Jonathan Lucroy, while the Astros remained quiet."I wasn't circling this series as the end all, be all," Astros manager A.J. Hinch said. "We've got to play all of our games, but it's going to be nice to get back into the division and get a look at their new team and the team we're chasing, so why wouldn't you want to play them?"The Astros will go up against a pitcher who's had their number over his career. Left-hander Martin Perez is 5-2 with a 1.88 ERA against Houston, and he has a 1.80 ERA in three starts at Minute Maid Park.
Reigning AL Cy Young Award winner Dallas Keuchel (6-11, 4.86) will try to beat Texas for the first time in four tries this year. The lefty is 0-3 with a 7.91 ERA in three starts against the Rangers in 2016.Texas second baseman Rougned Odor has blasted three homers and tallied eight RBIs through the first 10 meetings with the Astros. On June 6, he led the Rangers to a walk-off win over Houston with an RBI double in the ninth. The Astros' struggles against the Rangers haven't been limited to 2016. Since the Astros moved to the AL West in 2013, they've gone 20-47 against Texas.

5 Lefties head towards the hill today

Bumgarner-Giants
Price-Red Sox
Paxton-Mariners
Manaea-A's
Conley-Marlins

Bumgarner

The Giants try to gain some momentum with Bumgarner (10-6, 2.25 ERA), who has made 23 starts this year and averages nearly seven innings per outing. He has gone 155 2/3 innings and allowed 122 hits and 38 walks with 174 strikeouts. Opponents are hitting just .211 against him.
While Bumgarner is a former World Series MVP, Roark may be one of the most underrated starters in the game.
Roark, a 25th-round pick by the Texas Rangers, became a starter for the Nationals in 2014 and won 15 games.
He was used mostly out of the bullpen last year but has been in the rotation again this year.
The University of Illinois product is 11-6 with a 3.02 ERA in 23 games (22 starts). He has gone 143 innings and allowed 125 hits and 43 walks with 119 strikeouts. Opponents have an average of .239 against Roark.
He had a career-high 15 strikeouts against the Twins on April 23.
"I was just locked in. Every single pitch was on point," Roark said in the team's Inside Pitch magazine.
Giants hitters have very little track record against Roark. Buster Posey is 4-for-9 against Roark while Brandon Crawford is 2-for-7.
Bumgarner is 0-1 in his last three starts while Roark is 2-1 with a 4.42 ERA in that span.
Roark is 4-0 with a 3.32 ERA in five games (two starts) against the Giants. He faced them on July 28 and gave up just one run in seven innings. Roark leads the league in outings in which he has allowed no runs while going seven innings, which he has done six times.
While the Nationals only face the Giants in two series per year, Washington batters have fared well against North Carolina native Bumgarner in a small sample size.
Anthony Rendon is hitting .444 in nine at-bats and Ben Revere is 7-for-14.
Clint Robinson, a backup first baseman, has hit .667 in three at-bats against Bumgarner.

Conley

Opposing Gray for the Marlins will be Adam Conley, who is 7-6 with a 3.41 ERA in 22 starts. Right-handed hitters have hit 10 homers against Conley but are batting just .225 (78-for-347). Left-handed hitters haven't homered against Conley but are batting .306 (33-for-108) against him.
He has been much more effective against right-handed hitters.
Conley is 3-3 with a 3.92 ERA on the road, including his last start on Monday in Chicago where he lost 5-0 to the Cubs and gave up two runs, five hits and six walks with four strikeouts in four innings.
Gray, a rookie in his first full season in the majors, is 8-4 with a 3.77 ERA overall in 19 starts and 5-0 with a 3.83 ERA in nine starts at Coors Field.
In Gray's past seven outings, he is 4-1 with a 2.18 ERA, and he's 3-0 with an 0.69 ERA (26 innings, two earned runs) in four starts since the All-Star break with eight walks and 25 strikeouts. Not surprisingly, Gray is brimming with confidence.
"Even when I'm not on my game, I know I can keep us in the game, just by competing," Gray said.

Price

Price will make his third start on the road trip. In his previous outing on Tuesday in Seattle, the left-hander allowed four runs on seven hits in seven innings for the no-decision. Price dominated on July 28 in Anaheim, allowing seven hits in eight innings, but took the no-decision in a 2-1 loss."The West Coast trip has been very good for him. You can point to the consistency of his curveball as a big reason why," Red Sox manager John Farrell said. "He has 15 innings pitched and four runs allowed and you'd think that he's 2-0, but he's pitched in tight situations."

Only 4 Lefties take the mound tonight

Hamels-Rangers
Urias-Dodgers
Reed-Reds
Anderson-Rockies

Hamels

Cole Hamels, who is 12-3 with a 2.89 ERA in 22 starts, will take the mound Monday. He has the lowest road ERA in the AL, 1.90 ERA, and he has an 8-2 record away from Arlington.
Hamels is 4-4 with a 3.21 ERA in 10 career starts against the Rockies, including 2-2 with a 3.94 ERA in five starts at Coors Field.
Carlos Beltran didn't play Sunday for the Rangers after leaving the Saturday night game with a bruised left quadriceps, an injury that occurred on a play at the plate. Beltran started that game in right field after being used as the designated hitter in four straight games after being acquired Aug. 1 from the New York Yankees.

Anderson

Left-hander Tyler Anderson, 4-3 with a 3.25 ERA in 10 career starts, will start Monday for the Rockies. He pitched a career-high seven innings in his last outing, earning a win by allowing just two runs on six hits against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday. Anderson's ERA is the lowest for a Rockies starter through 10 starts in franchise history.
He is 4-1 with a 3.32 ERA in seven starts at Coors Field, where he has won each of his past four starts.

Urias

Dodgers 19-year-old rookie Julio Urias (1-2, 4.98 ERA) will face Phillies right-hander Zach Eflin (3-4, 4.77 ERA) in the series opener.
Urias, who has gone back and forth from Triple-A Oklahoma City to Los Angeles, appeared in relief for the Dodgers on Wednesday, allowing three runs in three innings in a loss to the Colorado Rockies. Urias hasn't won a start since beating the Milwaukee Brewers on June 19.
He has never opposed the Phillies.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts was tight-lipped when asked if Urias would be on a pitch count.

9 Lefties conquer the hill today

Sale-White Sox
Moore-Giants
Matz-Mets
Finnegan-Reds
Smyly-Rays
Santiago-Twins
Miley-O's
Norris-Tigers
LeBlanc-Mariners

Sale

Chicago will start ace left-hander Chris Sale in the series opener. Sale is 14-5 with 143 strikeouts, holding opponents to a .218 batting average, has a 2.16 ERA on the road, a 3.12 overall ERA and averages 2.0 walks per nine innings.
Sale, who is 0-3 in his past four starts, is 1-0 with a 4.85 ERA against the Royals this season and 8-9 with a 3.04 ERA in his career. Eric Hosmer has a .359 career average with two home runs in 39 career at-bats against Sale, while Lorenzo Cain owns a .349 average with three home runs and eight RBIs in 49 career at-bats.

Moore

The Giants will start left-hander Matt Moore (7-7, 4.04 ERA overall, 0-0, 3.00 ERA with San Francisco).
Moore, who was acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays at the trade deadline on Aug. 1, made his Giants debut on Thursday, earning a no-decision at Philadelphia. He allowed three hits and two runs in six innings.
His control was off, however, as he matched his career high with six walks.
Moore also has a poor history in two starts at Marlins Park, compiling a 7.36 ERA in 11 innings while allowing 15 hits, including two homers.
However, that is a small sample size. The Giants like the groove Moore is in over his past seven starts, during which he is 4-2 with a 2.12 ERA. Batters are hitting just .188 against him in that span.
His opponent on Tuesday will be Marlins right-hander Tom Koehler (8-8, 4.05 ERA).
Koehler has been hot in his past five starts, posting a 2-1 record with a 2.89 ERA, striking out 23 in 28 innings.

Miley

Miley, who came to the Orioles on July 31 from the Seattle Mariners in a trade for left-hander Ariel Miranda, will make his second start for Baltimore on Tuesday night against the A's and rookie right-hander Zach Neal (1-1, 5.25 ERA).
Miley (7-9, 5.08 ERA) has been traded three times, but the first two trades came during offseasons. This time, he has to adjust on the run, and so does Wieters.
"You've got to talk as much as you can before the start, but you gain a lot of knowledge that first start and you keep adding," Wieters said. "It takes a while to really get locked in, but at the same time, you've got to make sure that you continue to understand what he likes to do each start a little bit more, a little bit more."

Norris vs LeBlanc

Tigers starter Daniel Norris (1-0) returns to the rotation after a month in Triple-A, having been summoned from Norfolk when Jordan Zimmermann went on the disabled list with recurring neck problems. Norris, a left-hander, is one of eight starters Detroit has used this season.
Seattle has already gone through 11 starters, with the wheel landing on lefty Wade LeBlanc on Tuesday. LeBlanc (1-0) has been making spot starts since being acquired from the Toronto Blue Jays' minor league system in June. He finally has a legitimate shot to stay in the rotation, and to pitch every five days, as the Mariners made a bold move Monday by sending 23-year-old phenom Taijuan Walker back to Triple-A.

12 Lefties invade the mound today

Keuchel-Astros
Pomeranz-Red Sox
Perez-Rangers
De LaRosa-Rockies
Gonzalez-Nats
Detwiler-A's
Quintana-White Sox
Snell-Rays
Happ-Blue Jays
Garcia-Cards
Ray-D'Backs
Kazmir-Dodgers

Keuchel

Houston will turn to left-hander Dallas Keuchel, who will try and build the Astros first winning streak in two weeks.
In nine starts since July 18, Keuchel has had just one clunker in which he allowed seven runs in five innings against Detroit on July 31. He rebounded with a complete game shutout his last time out against Texas, allowing just five men to reach base while striking out seven.
Keuchel was roughed up for five runs on seven hits and five walks in a loss to Minnesota on May 2 at Minute Maid Park.

Gonzalez

Washington starter Gio Gonzalez (7-9, 4.13) has been resurgent of late. He enters with a 3-1 record and a 2.03 ERA in his last five starts, including 6 1/3 innings with just two earned runs allowed in a no-decision at Cleveland on July 16.
Gonzalez, the former Oakland Athletic, has enjoyed facing the Indians. In eight career starts against them, he's 5-0 with 1.07 ERA, though only one of those meetings has come since 2013.
He'll have to contend with a red-hot Jose Ramirez. Hitting in the fourth spot, Ramirez drove in two runs with two hits Tuesday night, stole a base and scored a run.
"He's been doing it all year," Mills said after the game. "He was hitting cleanup tonight for a reason."
In his last 15 games, Ramirez is batting .407 (22-for-54) with five doubles, two home runs, five RBIs, 10 runs scored and eight stolen bases.

De LaRosa vs Perez

Jorge De La Rosa will start Wednesday for Colorado, which after winning 11 of 13 games has lost five of the past six. The Rockies just finished a 3-5 homestand, dropping their record to 28-29 at Coors Field. They are 27-29 on the road.
De La Rosa (7-7, 5.24 ERA) didn't figure in the decision Friday against the Miami Marlins. He allowed one run in six innings, but Estevez melted down in the ninth, and the Rockies lost 5-3.
He will oppose Texas left-hander Martin Perez (7-8, 4.33 ERA). Perez hasn't won a game since June 26, going 0-4 with a 6.33 ERA in his past seven starts. on Friday at Houston, Perez gave up five runs in seven innings during a 5-0 loss.
The Rangers (67-47) just concluded a trip that began with two losses before they won five of the next six games. Texas has won four consecutive games, with each one decided in the seventh inning or later.

Kazmir

Kazmir has lost his last two outings after posting an unbeaten run in 13 consecutive starts, winning seven straight. In his last start, Kazmir allowed four runs on five hits with five walks and two strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings during a 9-0 loss to the Boston Red Sox on Friday.
The last time Kazmir pitched against the Phillies was Sept. 21, 2014, as a member of the Oakland A's. Kazmir fanned nine and walked one, but he gave up six runs on 11 hits in 5 1/3 innings in a no-decision. He is 1-1 with 7.04 ERA in three career starts against Philadelphia.
Kazmir will try to slow Freddy Galvis, who registered his 24th multi-hit game of the season -- and second in three games -- by going 2-for-3 with a solo home run and two stolen bases Tuesday. Galvis homered for the 10th time this season, the first time in five seasons he has reached double digits.

Happ

The Toronto Blue Jays left-hander won 12 games in 2009 with the Philadelphia Phillies. That total is barely visible in the rear-view mirror as he goes for his 16th win Wednesday in the series finale, and rubber match, of a three-game set with the Tampa Bay Rays.
Happ (15-3, 3.09 ERA) will be facing left-hander Blake Snell (3-4, 2.95 ERA) at Rogers Centre.
Happ also will be trying for his 10th straight winning decision after losing against the Detroit Tigers on June 6. In 10 starts since the loss, he is 9-0 with a 2.49 ERA.
He also has allowed one or no walks in five of his past seven starts and has 41 walks against 116 strikeouts in 137 innings, which he credits pitching coach

12 career games, including 11 starts, against Tampa Bay, Happ is 2-3 with a 5.37 ERA. This season, he is 0-1 with a 7.98 ERA in three starts against Tampa Bay.
He will also be pitching on five days' rest for the sixth time this season. He has gone 2-3 with an 8.25 ERA in five previous start with an extra days' rest.

Garcia

DeSclafani will be opposed by St. Louis left-hander Jaime Garcia (8-8, 4.04), who notched a 1-0 win Friday night against Atlanta, whiffing 11 as he tossed a three-hit shutout over eight innings.
Garcia owns a sterling 10-4 career record against Cincinnati with a 3.75 earned run average in 20 career outings. At home, those numbers are even better, as Garcia is 7-1 with a 2.32 ERA.
The key for success in this one for Garcia might be keeping Reds leadoff man Billy Hamilton off base. The center fielder has stolen nine bases in the last three games, including three Tuesday night, and has 48 in 54 tries for the season.

5 Lefties invade the mound today

Duffy-Royals
Lester-Cubs
Rodriguez-Red Sox
Milone-Twins
Friedrich-Padres

Duffy

The Royals will counter with left-hander Danny Duffy, who is 8-1 with a 2.97 ERA. He has won his past seven decisions.
Duffy is 4-0 in nine starts this season at Kauffman Stadium, where he has not lost since Sept. 5, 2015, against the White Sox.
In three starts vs. Chicago this year, Duffy is 1-0 with a 2.87 ERA. On June 3 at U.S. Cellular Field, he threw six shutout innings of three-hit ball, striking out 10 and walking three in a 4-1 win.

Lester

Lester is 6-2 at Wrigley this year with an ERA of 1.99 in 10 games & Cubs have won his last 4 starts.
This is his first start against the Cardinals this season on Thursday. The lefty went 1-3 with a 2.59 ERA in five games last year against St. Louis, and also lost to them in Game 1 of the NL Division Series.

Rodriguez

Eduardo Rodriguez (2-5, 5.93 ERA) will start in Wright's place. The southpaw has pitched well against the Yankees in his young career, going 4-1 with a 2.01 ERA in five starts against them.
He last faced them on July 16, holding New York to one run on four hits with two walks and a strikeout in seven inning. He earned the victory.
Jacoby Ellsbury is 5-for-14 (.357) with two home runs tand two RBIs against Rodriguez, while Brett Gardner (3-for-10, .300) and Alex Rodriguez (5-for-13, .385, three RBIs) also have taken him deep.

8 Lefties invade the mound today

Price-Red Sox
Sabathia-Yankees
Rodon-White Sox
Liriano-Blue Jays
Corbin-D'Backs
Manaea-A's
Miranda-Mariners
Skaggs-Angels

Price vs Corbin

A couple of struggling southpaws are scheduled to toe the rubber Friday as Arizona's Patrick Corbin (4-11, 5.37 ERA) counters Boston's David Price (9-8, 4.34 ERA).
Corbin is 0-5 with a 7.09 ERA in his past eight starts, and he hasn't won since June 21 against the Toronto Blue Jays.
The former All-Star is 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA in one career start against the Red Sox, in which he allowed three runs on eight hits and struck out six in 2013.
Ramirez is 4-for-7 with two doubles and three walks against Corbin. No active Red Sox batter has hit a home run or driven in a run against the lefty.
Price will be making just his second start against the Diamondbacks. He pitched eight innings of two-run ball with 11 strikeouts in a victory in 2010.
Michael Bourn is 3-for-19 (.158) with a double and five strikeouts against Price.
Price also hasn't allowed a homer or an RBI to any current Arizona batter.
The former American League Cy Young Award winner is 6-3 with a 4.33 ERA at Fenway Park this season.

Sabathia

CC Sabathia takes the mound. Sabathia has struggled recently by going 1-3 with a 5.40 ERA in his last five starts and also has struggled at home, going 1-6 with a 4.82 ERA in nine starts.

Sabathia last pitched Saturday against Cleveland when he allowed three runs and six hits in 5 2/3 innings of a 5-2 loss.

Liriano

The Astros start rookie right-hander Joe Musgrove (0-0, 0.79 ERA) against Toronto left-hander Francisco Liriano (6-11, 5.34) in the opener.
Musgrove made a superb major league debut against the Blue Jays on Aug. 2 when he took over from starter Lance McCullers, who was forced from the game with an elbow injury. The 23-year-old struck out eight and allowed one hit and one walk in 4 1/3 innings in a game the Blue Jays won 2-1.
He made his first major league start five days later, allowing five hits and one run while striking out six in seven innings.
Liriano makes his second start for the Blue Jays since he was acquired in a trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He did not factor in the decision in the Blue Jays' 4-3 victory over the Kansas City Royals last Friday. He allowed seven hits, two walks and three runs (two earned) while striking out five over six innings.

Miranda

The Mariners are expected to send rookie left-hander Ariel Miranda to the mound for his second major league start. That's unless they have a change of plans after using Miranda for an inning of relief on Tuesday in their 6-5, 15-inning victory against Detroit on Tuesday.
Seattle acquired Miranda from Baltimore in a trade deadline deal for left-hander Wade Miley. Miranda made his Mariners debut on Saturday against Boston and allowed two runs over six innings in a 3-2 loss. He struck out five and walked one.

5 Lefties run on to the hill today

Hamels-Rangers
Bumgarner-Giants
Conley-Marlins
Boyd-Tigers
Anderson-Rockies

Hamels vs Boyd

The Rangers look to make it seven in a row with ace Cole Hamels (12-3, 2.89 ERA) taking the mound for the 24th time this season. The lefty has gone 3-1 with a 1.83 ERA in five starts since the All-Star break. Hamels is 3-1 lifetime against Detroit.
Detroit (61-54) hopes to snap a five-game skid with left-hander Matt Boyd (3-2, 4.69) making his 11th start of the season. Boyd is 0-3 record with a 7.63 ERA in his career against Texas.
Boyd made a relief appearance Aug. 9 at Seattle, walking one and striking out one in a scoreless inning. His last start was Aug. 6 against the New York Mets, picking up the win after giving up three runs on six hits with five strikeouts over five innings.

Conley

The Marlins, meanwhile, don't have nearly as much invested in Conley, a rookie who is 8.6 with a 3.70 ERA. Conley was Miami's second-best starting pitcher in the first half of the season, trailing only All-Star Jose Fernandez.
But Conley is averaging just 5 1/3 innings per start in the second half of this season and has eclipsed the 100-pitch mark just once. His 4.00 ERA and 5.6 walks per nine innings are also signs of decline from his first-half numbers.
His ERA was 3.65 in the first half of the season when he won six games.

9 Lefties walk slowly to the mound

Anderson-Dodgers

Sale

White Sox (56-60) will go for a three-game sweep over the Marlins (60-56) on Sunday. With Saturday's loss, the Marlins moved a half-game behind the St. Louis Cardinals in the race for the second and final NL wild-card playoff berth.
Making matters tougher for the Marlins will be Sale, who will be making his fourth start since his behavior cost him a five-day suspension.
On July 23, while the rest of the team was taking batting practice, Sale used a knife to cut up several of his team's throw-back uniforms.
Since coming back, Sale is 0-2 with a 3.00 ERA.
He is better than that, historically, in terms of winning games, posting a career record of 71-45 with a 2.95 ERA.
It will be interesting to see how he does in his first game at Marlins Park. Sale is a native Floridian, and his hometown of Lakeland is a four-hour car-ride away.
Sale, 27, still has nasty stuff. At 6 feet 6, 180 pounds, his fastball gets on hitters in a hurry, which is why he was a first-round pick -- No. 13 overall -- in 2010.

Miley

left-hander Wade Miley, who will be making his 22nd interleague start. He's gone 9-5 with a 5.27 in his first 21.

A former member of the Arizona Diamondbacks, Miley will be facing the Giants for the 11th time in his career. He's gone 4-4 with a 3.23 ERA in those games.
Miley hasn't faced the Giants since 2014, when he went 3-1 in four starts against the National League West rival.
He will be facing a team coming off what manager Bruce Bochy considered to be a crucial win on Saturday night.
"Good bounce-back for us," said Bochy, whose club lost the series opener 5-2. "We needed a win tonight."

Anderson

Anderson will make his season debut Sunday when he starts against the Pittsburgh Pirates in the rubber match of the three-game series at Dodger Stadium.
Anderson made three rehab starts with Class A Rancho Cucamonga and Triple-A Oklahoma City, compiling an 0-1 mark with a 2.25 ERA with 11 strikeouts and one walk in 12 innings.
He last faced the Pirates on July 25, 2014 as a member of the Colorado Rockies, limiting them to two hits in 6 1/3 scoreless innings and earning the win in an 8-1 Rockies' victory. He struck out one and walked four on 102 pitches.
In two career starts against Pittsburgh, Anderson is 1-0 with a 0.68 ERA and has limited the Pirates to a .130 batting average.
