Suspended Cleveland Browns receiver Josh Gordon failed a drug test last month, according to multiple reports.

  • Josh Gordon drags Browns back to old problems

The Browns made a point of saying they will take a stand about certain behavior when they released Johnny Manziel, and now they may be facing a similar situation with Josh Gordon, Pat McManamon writes.
</aside>Fox Sports, which first reported the news, cited a source informed of the test results that Gordon's sample was positive for marijuana and dilute. Both Gordon's "A" and "B" samples were positive for marijuana and dilute, Fox Sports reported. According to the report, the level of marijuana in the wide receiver's system was below the 35 nanogram threshold, but the diluted sample is the same as a positive test by the NFL's standards.
Neither the NFL nor the Browns commented. A league source told ESPN's Adam Schefter that Gordon's potential reinstatement will be delayed until NFL officials feel comfortable he has 60-90 days of no "red-flag tests." There has been increasing concern within the Browns' organization about whether Gordon will be reinstated, a source told Schefter.
Gordon took to Twitter shortly after the reports surfaced and appeared unconcerned.

Manziel had told TMZ that he was living with Von Miller. The Denver Broncoslinebacker said in an Instagram post Monday that Manziel wasn't living with him, but the quarterback was his "brother" and he has his back.
Manziel, who went to rehab last year, told TMZ he had been out in West Hollywood five to six nights in a row, and said he doesn't think NFL teams have a problem with his partying.
"I don't think there's anything wrong with partying, bro," Manziel said. "There's a difference between partying and being out of control.

Gordon, who has been suspended since last February, applied to the league for reinstatement earlier this year, formally asking commissioner Roger Goodell to allow him back.
Though it was widely noted that the NFL would have 60 days to make a decision on Gordon's reinstatement, an NFL spokesman clarified the timeline to ESPN's Field Yates last month, saying: "There is no requirement that a reinstatement decision be made in 60 days. We endeavor to develop the necessary information to make a decision in that time frame, but the actual decisions are made when appropriate."
Gordon, who was suspended for multiple violations of the league's substance abuse policy, failed an alcohol test last year, wiping out the talented receiver's 2015 season.
At the NFL's owners meetings last month, Browns coach Hue Jackson and director of football operations Sashi Brown said the team needed to have a conversation with Gordon if he was reinstated to determine his frame of mind before deciding whether he would be back with the Browns.
Gordon, 24, made the Pro Bowl in 2013 when he led the league with 1,646 yards receiving despite playing just 14 games. Gordon also had nine touchdowns that season.
However, he hasn't been able to stay out of trouble.
After Gordon pleaded guilty to driving while impaired on July 5, 2014, in Raleigh, North Carolina, he was required to submit to alcohol testing under the third stage of the league's mandated program. Gordon said he drank on a flight to Las Vegas a few days after the 2014 season ended and failed a subsequent test. Gordon had assumed any restrictions ended after the season, but he didn't clarify that with the league.
Gordon was initially suspended for the 2014 season after testing positive for marijuana. His penalty was later reduced to 10 games after the league and NFLPA changed their substance abuse policies. Gordon had to sit out two games in 2013 for a failed drug test, which he blamed on taking prescription cough medicine.

The good news is that Johnny Manziel is Gordon's new roommate. That should help both of them.

Do these two nitwits belong together or what?

Lol, they surely seem to. Although Gordon simply smokes pot, and it's ridiculous that NFL players cannot do so, but those are the rules right now and he needs to follow them if he wants to play football again.

I found it funny that Manziel said he was living with Von Miller and that Miller appeared to confirm that report, then just one day later said that Manziel wasn't living with him but that he had his back because they are brothers due to their TAMU ties.

I agree with this

So does pretty much everyone outside of the little red haired Hitler wannabe. They'd rather continue to hand out scripts for pain pills to their players because those are so much better for you than cannabis. It's a fucking joke.

What is the marijuana policy in the NBA? Do they do drug testing like the NFL? If so, what is the cutoff for pass/fail in the testing?

Good question. Not sure about their policy, but I'd guess it either doesn't exist or they are very, very laid back with how they enforce it. 90% of the NBA has to be pot smokers, and I can't remember the last time we've seen an NBA guy suspended for pot. The thing is, the NFL players actually NEED the cannabis more than the NBA guys based on the pain they're in most of the time.

Remember when the Bengals were so poorly run that you wondered if the league would step in, force them to pay minimum salaries and the like?

Yeah, that's where we are with the Browns.

Like, contraction is starting to become a viable consideration.

Hope Gordon gets the help he needs to overcome is marijuana addiction. Football should be the least of his concerns right now.

Same for Manziel. He has serious mental problems and hopefully checks into an institution soon.

Other than drafting the bozos in the first place, you can't pin this on the Browns. Manziel's a free agent, and Gordon's inability to pass a drug test is his own problem. Imagine choosing to smoke pot over becoming one off the 5 or 10 highest paid non-QB's in the league.

These guys belong to the world now, enjoy!

I blame Browns fans. You put too much pressure on these kids to change your lives. Your city is built for getting wasted. Where's the problem?

Gordon's thing is mind boggling. That kid is still just 24, we all saw what he did in 2013 with about 5 different quarterbacks. We're easily talking about tens of millions of dollars gone in a puff of smoke. Hard to see him getting on the field again. Not that a team wouldn't take a flyer, just hard to imagine the guy staying clean long enough to be reinstated. 2016 looks out, that'll be 3 seasons gone except for five bad games at the end of 2104. That's some expensive weed.

Manziel did check into an institution already. That's why he was getting in trouble for drinking alcohol, because of the supposed terms of his rehab.

Not sure he really has mental problems, he seems like he's just a young kid who is doing what many kids his age have done and are doing. He just happens to be in the spotlight and plays professional sports for a living, so any issues he's had are magnified on a cosmic scale compared to the rest of society.

Where's he work?

Lar seems hell bent on painting these two idiots as youngsters having harmless fun. Manziel went from Heisman to first round to out of work in two years. Gordon hasn't played in three. He's the sadder case in my eyes, because he's actually good. I suspect even a sober Manziel would have performed his way out of the league eventually, just not this fast.

Gordon is stupid. Manziel's picture has been painted by the media. Seems like a good kid to me.

The media didn't put the cloud of domestic violence over Manziel ... and don't you think he seeks out the spotlight as much as it seeks him? Just a little bit? Seems to be one of his multiple addictions.

Difference between Gordon and Manziel is that Gordon is talented. JFF was a product of Sumlin and his system. I wanted him to succeed because who doesn't want a midget qb to succeed? It's one of the reasons so many of us loved Tarkenton and Flutie.

Manziel got way more football money than he deserved and Gordon is blowing more football money than most of us dream of having a chance at .... for a little weed. What a moron.

Yes, this too. JFF was never going to be a good (let alone great) NFL QB. We should go back in the old Manziel thread and see who thought he would be successful, maybe even be awesome...seems like it would be fun.

I think he could be fine if he didn't have his head up his ass. Not great, but at least a serviceable nfl qb.

I don't really blame the Browns. I certainly don't blame Browns fans and they're two different cases entirely.

First, fuck Johnny Football. I genuinely hope he never plays football again if for no other reason than he beats women. I hope that guy sells shitty used cars in Texas for the rest of his life and wakes up one day when he's 70 crying like a fucking five year old because he wasted his life. Fuck that guy.

Gordon, to me, is different. Is he a dipshit? I have no idea. Is he an addict? Again, no clue. The truth is it's probably a combination of both to varying degrees, but man, what a waste. Unlike Johnny he seems like he gives a shit—only just not enough to figure out his life, which at 24 is honestly a tough ask for a lot of kids. But he took what could have been an incredible career, at the highest level of the sport, and flushed it. Fucking brutal.

Lucky for you that you have a few fave nfl teams.. :tiphat:

Just two, and they're both varying degrees of a dumpster fire right now. The Eagles were like, "Fuck it, let's just burn the building to the ground." While the Browns looked on and said, "Hahahaha, fucking amateurs."

Eagles are sitting fine..
my only problem is the Bradford signing.

Which is kind of like saying, "That baseball team is going to be fine, other than their pitching." Hahaha.

You really think the Eagles are OK? They have no QB for the foreseeable future. Their OL is a mess, they've shipped off their WR corps to the point that it's what, Riley Cooper and Others? To me this feels like a six win team with no direction. Now, maybe that will change after the draft—and I absolutely could be way off. I've basically abandoned the NFL. Both my teams suck and I find watching the game boring. So, honestly, I may not know shit about the league any more.

You can draft a qb and played chase Daniel a yr.. No reason for fragile Sammy

OL can be rebuilt in draft plus they signed a solid guard
