Iverson Demands Trade

Allen Iverson and the Philadelphia 76ers have put up with each other, through good times and bad, for the last decade.

But that could be coming to an end very soon. According to a report on the New York Post's website, Iverson has demanded a trade.
Citing two agents whose clients play for the 76ers, the Post report said Iverson went to team president Billy King last Tuesday and made the demand, even though he'd said throughout his career that he'd never do such a thing.
The Post also cites two general managers that King contacted on Thursday, who claim the 76ers are aggressively trying to accommodate Iverson's request.
The 76ers have lost five straight to fall to 5-12 on the season. And even though that mark leaves them just a game-and-a-half out of first place in the woeful Atlantic Division, Iverson has grown increasingly frustrated with the team's situation.
Particularly its head coach.
The Post report quotes an unnamed agent who said Iverson told King he likes Maurice Cheeks as a person, "but not as a coach."
Iverson's stretch in Philly has seen highs — most notably an appearance in the 2001 NBA Finals and an MVP season in 2000-01. But it has also been characterized by clashes with 76ers management. Iverson was suspended during the 2003-04 season for missing practice, leading to the infamous "We're talking about practice" press conference. Iverson also was benched for last year's season finale after showing up late for fan appreciation night.

I know they contacted Detroit this offseason about a package that would have involved Iverson and Billups among others. Also, Detroit nearly traded for AI back early part of this decade.

I think it's one thing to demand a trade in a closed door meeting and another to tell the press. It doesn't sound like Iverson did anything wrong in his request. I'm a big A.I. fan and I'd like to see him go somewhere else for sure. Plus the Sixers would be better off going young and building around some pieces that they already have (Dalmbert, Igudola (sp)Korver).

I don't blame him...that team is a mess and AI wants to win.

KG will be next.

AI is by far my favorite player and has been ever since I first saw him play when I was 8 years old when I lived in VA...My dad took me to see him play in the VA State Championship for Bethel High and AI led his team to victory which happened to be the first game I had ever been 2 and it is definetly something I will never forget...And now I live in Philly and hes on my Sixers and I feel bad for him because hes never gonna win a Championship here with the pieces hes got around him...As much as I dont like it I think its time for him to move on because hes one of those guys that deserves to win a Championship as hard as he plays with the heart that he has and the desire he plays with to win every game and it pisses me off everytime I see someone like Glenn "Big Dog" Robinson win a championship who is a fucking clown and clearly dosent deserve it...AI has been incredibly loyal to the Sixers franchise and he has tried his best every year to take these talentless teams that are constructed around him to the playoffs even taking them to the finals the one year but I think its probably best for both parties to move forward...The Sixers have some nice young pieces so maybe its best for the team to see what they have but at this point even if they do trade AI they cant get much worse...Id much rather them trade C Webb though:23_31_4:

#3

I forgot bout yas CMoney

I think its best too. I hope he goes somewhere good for his style and a chance to win. You won't be lucky enough though to package Webb w/him...lol

With the East...and league in whole muddling this year some teams that are borderline contenders should step up and see what they can do.

Um lets be realistic guys.. AI is a great scorer but thats about it. The team has brought guys to play with him in the past and no one could do it. He repeatedly doesnt show up for team functions.. I could care less where he goes. Why would you pay an undersized 32 yr old 2 guard who shoots a poor % a max deal? Anyway the one that has grabbed my interest is KG.. I think Mitch needs to make the deal and try to win now. Send them smush bynum and anyone else.. for kg.. the west is so bad right now and phil is such a great coach the lakers would be right there.

BTW the lakers roster is the most pathetic thing ive seen in a while.

C Money just curious bro. Do you think iggy and korver are nice young pieces? Not so fast my friend.. I have read inside sources and they are down on iggy.. i for one loved the kid but since his rookie year his game hasnt expanded. Sam Dalembert got way overpayed.. and the guy is a liability on the offensive end. I like Carney, but hes unproven. They have some guys who look good in warmups.. like the kid greene, but to say they are nice pieces, ill say they are more like nice role players ..

While Bynum would be a nice start to getting KG, I don't think he would be nearly enough and the Lakers don't exactly have anything more to deal.

With my Celtics being utterly pathetic, I wouldn't be surprised if they start the AI talks up again-it isn't like they have a ton to lose.

Yea Danny ainge has loaded up on some nice pieces. Good point Seabass, i thought Jefferson would be better this year.. But they have perkins as well. Lets not forget how good of friends wally and kg are ;)

I think KGs talents are bein forgotten and thats upsetting. I havent seen a guy as versatile as him EVER. How many 7 foot 1 guys have that wing span.. that range and can do it all. Mchale ruined that franchise losing those 3 first round picks...Then kg took too much money

I agree brian, KG has to get out of there asap...I don't care where he goes, he would be great for lakers or some title contender.

Hunt good to have ya as my myspace friend

 AI

Reminds me a lot of sammy sosa.. Just a complete fraud. The practice rant should tell you what type of person and 'leader' ai is. The numerous rants talkin in third person get on my nerves.
The video of him hitting a guy over and over with a chair until he paralyzed him should show you. Pulling a gun on numerous people should show you something..

I said back a month ago i want KG...that being said i would hate to lose Rasheed....I think he is gonna be big rest of season..best in awhile

Det has two forst round picks this year....they will make some moves whether it be during or offseason

KG should finally come to the Bulls where he's needed most and obviously would be the best fit. Then we could end the season and crown the Bulls champs, fair enough?

How about Duhon/Thomas/Nocci/#1 (via Knicks)

Hinrich
Gordan
Deng
KG
Wallace

As for AI, this kid won't win a championship unless its in 4 years and he's pulling a Gary Payton type role now. He wears the ball out and when shooting %'s are rising once again in the NBA his remain below the field. I think Denver's the best fit because he can get them up and into their run and gun sets about as quick as Steve Nash. I still believe he should be playing off the ball somewhere complementing a big man though.

AI has done tremendous things for the city and for the 76ers. I know it's time for him to move on, but I can't imagine watching the 76ers without him. If they are able to trade him, I hope it's to a contender, he deserves that.

While I still believe that C-Webb is the true problem with the Sixers, I can't imagine any team taking him on. The Sixers need a change, I'm just so sick of watching bad basketball.

A highly publicized incident on Valentine's day that almost jeopardized his college career, Iverson was involved in a racially-charged fight at a Hampton, Virginia bowling alley. On February 14, 1993, Iverson and several of his friends became involved in an altercation with a group of white teenagers. Allen's crowd was raucous and had to be asked to quiet down several times, and eventually something of a shouting duel began with another group of youths (all white). The only indisputable fact is that shortly thereafter a huge fight erupted, pitting the local white kids against the blacks. During the fight, Iverson was accused of attacking a woman and hitting her in the head with a chair. He, along with three of his friends, also black, were the only ones arrested in the incident. Iverson, 17 years of age at the time, was convicted as an adult of the felony charge of "maiming-by-mob" and received a 15-year prison sentence (10 years suspended). Iverson and his supporters maintain his innocence. Allen cannot be seen on an amateur video of the incident, and he claims he left the alley as soon as the trouble began. "For me to be in a bowling alley where everybody in the whole place know who I am and be crackin' people upside the head with chairs and think nothin' gonna happen?" asks Iverson. "That's crazy! And what kind of a man would I be to hit a girl in the head with a damn chair? I wish at least they'd said I hit some damn man."
This incident was profiled on the television newsmagazine 60 Minutes due to claims of racial bias in the adjudication of the case. L. Douglas Wilder, at the time Governor of Virginia, became convinced that Iverson had been treated unfairly and controversially granted Iverson clemency, releasing him from his sentence. Iverson's conviction was later overturned on appeal.

[edit] 1997

Iverson, along with his friends, was stopped by policemen for speeding late midnight and was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon and for possession of marijuana. He pleaded no contest and was sentenced to community service.

[edit] 2002

Iverson allegedly threw his wife Tawanna out of the mansion during a fight. The following night, an enraged Iverson later went looking for his wife at his cousin's apartment. His cousin wouldn't let him in (Iverson was the one who paid the rent for the house). According to the police report, Iverson repeatedly threatened to kill his cousin Charles Jones and Jones's roommate while showing them a semi-automatic gun. Iverson was arrested and charged with 14 different counts. All charges were ultimately dropped after conflicting testimonies from witnesses.

[edit] 2004

During the latter part of the 2003-2004 season, Iverson bristled under the disciplinarian approach of the Sixers' new head coach Chris Ford. This led to a number of contentious incidents, including Iverson being suspended for missing practice, fined for failing to notify Ford that Iverson would not attend a game because he was sick, and refusing to play in game because he felt "insulted" that Ford wanted Iverson to come off the bench as he worked his way back from an injury.[3]
On February 24, 2004, Iverson, a noted regular casino patron, was spotted at Bally's Park Place in Atlantic City urinating in a trash can in full view of staff and patrons. He was told by casino management not to return.[4]
When the 2004 United States Olympic team gathered in Jacksonville, Florida for its first exhibition game, Allen Iverson was late. He was suspended for the game.[5]

[edit] 2005

On December 9, 2005 after the Sixers defeated the Charlotte Bobcats, Iverson paid a late-night visit to the Trump Taj Mahal. After winning a hand at a three-card-stud poker table, Iverson was overpaid $10,000 in chips by a dealer. When the dealer quickly realized the mistake and requested the chips back, Iverson refused and a heated head-turning argument between him and casino staff began. Atlantic City casino regulations reportedly state that when a casino makes a payout mistake in favor of the gambler, he or she must return the money that they did not legitimately win by playing.

[edit] 2006

On April 18, 2006 Iverson and Chris Webber arrived late to the Sixers' fan appreciation night and home game finale. Players are expected to report 90 minutes before gametime, but both Iverson and Webber arrived around tipoff. Exasperated coach Maurice Cheeks notified the media that neither would be playing and general manager Billy King announced that Iverson and Webber would be fined.[6]. The 2006 off-season has sparked many trade rumors that could send Allen to Denver, Atlanta, or Boston. No trade has been accepted and it appears that no deal will be made. Allen Iverson has made it clear that he would like to stay a Sixer.
On November 29, 2006 following a conflict at practice, Iverson stormed out of the gymnasium. That same evening, Iverson missed a corporate sponsor night at Lucky Strike Lanes in Philidelphia. All the 76ers besides Iverson attended this mandatory event. Iverson was fined by the 76ers for an undisclosed amount. Iverson claimed he overslept after taking medication for pain related to having two abscessed teeth pulled but it was reported that Iverson told teammates earlier in the day he planned to blow off the event and was simply going to take the fine. I like Iguadola but hes playing under AI's shadow...I watch almost all their games and Iguadola looks for AI no matter what he dosent take anything on to his shoulders...Just the other night Iguadola got the ball on a fast break at the top of the key and without a doubt he could have taken the wide open shot or driven to the basket but he pulled it out and passed it to AI...Iguadola has all the talent in the world but while AI is on the court he is so hesitant to take things on himself...Now Willie Green is better than people think...Everytime AI has had to sit out with an injury Green has filled in nicely scoring probably around 25 a game...Willie can definetly play...Now Korver is a shooter thats all he is and hes a defensive liability and Dalembert got so over paid because of the way he performed against Detroit in the playoffs a couple years ago and Im not a big fan of his...I really like Louis Williams, Carney, Randolph who unfortuantly broke his ankle...I do think they have good pieces its not like I am saying if they trade AI they will be Championship bound Im just saying this team cant move forward and know what they have until they see what these guys can do...I think its time for them to make it Iggy and Willie's team and see what theyve got because its not like they can go downhill because they are tied for the worst record in the league

Love the way the guy plays but man he's a thug. League's better without him now. Ever since he lost his underdog appeal and fell out of David Stern's "stars" he's mysteriously disappeared. Bringing in Webber with him was doomsday... both these teams probably wished they never did that. Kings, would be better off with Webber and their offense.... Sixers, much better with the grit of Kenny Thomas whose willing to do the dirty stuff.

Louis is my homie.. he is tearing up the nbdl.. i saw he went 13 for 14 the other night. Im thinking Shavlik is the x factor ;)

That must meen a trade is in the work. I would fade the hell out of philly.. there has to be something goin on behind the scenes,

Apparently Billiy King (GM) will be meeting with the Media around 615 outside the Sixers Locker Room which is very odd...hopefully he can clear up whats going on:nervous:

Billy King didnt say much of anything with alot of "No Comment" "Im not gonna speculate on that" but he did say AI was out tonight and tommorow night and would not be with the team but not because of injury because they told him to stay home but that it was not a suspension...The Vibe I got from King was AI has played his last game as a 76er

AI's a great player. Top 15 guard of all time. Nobody can score like him.

However that being said, I think hes run his course here. Theres nothing thats gonna happen now that hasnt happened yet. The shame of Allen Iverson is that he never had someone fully competent making the personel decisions. Billy King is a moron. Larry Brown wasnt that great with picking the players and when he did have a promising rookie, he wouldnt play him.

I think it was the 98 draft when Croce was still here and he wanted Paul Pierce and King was lobbying for Nowitzki and Larry Brown wanted Larry Hughes...unfortunately for the Sixers the wrong person won that argument...

Anyways hes not gonna do anything here now because theres nothing King can do. Ive been saying for a while Chris Webber is killing this team. He cant run and he cant jump and he cant shoot. And this team would be best served running the hell out of the ball with Iverson, Iggy, Carney, Dalembert, Hunter, Korver, et al...they should be Phoenix East. But for some unkown reason, they arent and they never will be so the only option at this point is to get rid of Iverson.

Hes quit on the Sixers. For the first time I can remember (save for that one year Chris Ford was the coach) AI isnt trying. The last couple games his heart hasnt been in it. And if his heart isnt in it, hes got nothing.

great points smoke...this team is capable of running and gunning without cwebb.

Unfortunately this was inevitable for my Sixers. I'm a huge 'Answer' fan and appreciate what the man has done for Philly and the Sixers but it was definitely time for a change and things can only go up cause shit can't get any lower for Philly basketball at the moment.

Billy King...

So now the trade is inevitable, what do they get for him?

Heres my list of acceptable trades (which wont happen because billy king is an idiot and is about the last person in the city i want to have the responsibility of making this decision)

1. To LAC for Livingston, Magette and a 1st rounder (the sixers would have to throw in Iguodala and the Clipps would have to throw in Mobley to make the salaries work...theres no way the clippers get rid of Livingston though)

2. To Minnesota for Foye, Blount and Ricky Davis and a pick (essentially for Foye and then you have to take on some bad contracts to make it work...everyone in Philly LOVES randy foye...this is the one deal that if he can pull it off, King wont get ripped for)

3. To Denver for Miller and JR Smith and a pick (theyd have to throw in joe smith to make the salaries work and i swear to god if king trades AI to denver and gets either Nene or Kenyon Martin in return, im finding out where billy king lives, driving to his house, waking him up in the middle of the night and shaking the shit out of him)

4. To Chicago for Gordon, Thomas or Nocioni, PJ Brown and a pick (i actually think chicago may do this for some reason...but what do i know)

5. To Boston for Al Jefferson, Gerald Green and Theo Ratliff and a pick (I know ainge likes AI alot but i cant see them trading two promising guys for him and even though Kings an idiot, i cant see him taking back the slop theyd be giving him if it didnt include green and jefferson)

Ive heard Dallas, Sacramento and Golden State are interested but again, i may be giving King too much credit, but Im assuming hed be smart enough to turn down the guys that would have to be the principals in any of those trades (Stackhouse, Bibby and Baron Davis...none of which fit the rebuilding mold)...

All this being said, he'll probably end up trading him to someone completely out of the blue for some pile of shit thats so unconcionably atrocious that I wont be able to talk about it rationally for at least 4 months...

Anyone read kg's quotes on AI? I would be shocked if the clippers get rid of livingston..If AI goes to minny, they will HAVE to include mike james. i dont see him in chicago. He isnt a skiles player at all.. Thats giving up a lot of young talent in gordon and nocioni..

teams also have the leverage of knowing that AI wants out of town, philly just might get rid of him for peanuts to get him out of there....Clippers is a good spot for him IMO.

the timberwolves owner is saying they cant pull off a trade because the salaries wont match...

KG has already stated how much he wants AI almost immediately after the game yesterday...

I just read its between 2 teams. The Celtics and The Bulls. Pacers and nuggets also want in.. might be a 3 team deal in the works

Mavericks would have to give up terry and maybe harris... the kid from wake is untouchable and so is dirk. Not sure if dallas would be a good team to deal with.

I was shocked seeing AI´s demand yesterday.I can´t imagine my most favourite player playing in another jersey.I think he overreacted little bit.I´ll have difficulties supporting another team after 10 years.Hell I wish he had won Championships in 2001.He would deserve it for playing with such a lousy team and still getting to the Final.I´ve never seen such an inspiring player always full of energy and always giving his best. It´s a shame.
I hope he won´t end in Boston.I hate that team and besides that he would end up in just another scrappy team with no chance of winning Championships.
On the other hand I would love seeing him in Denver or Dallas. If it is somehow possible to keep JR,Anthony, and Camby together he would fit in there just fine.He would be better run-n-gun PG than Miller is.Since King has already made couple of mind-stumbling trades(Big "Fat" Dog,Mashburn,Webber) an arrive of "dynamic duo" Nene&Martin isn´t definitely impossible :)
There goes one franchise era.So sad.
