*Think the overall numbers of each team are a little skewed by the strength of opposition (or lack thereof) to this point. Also hoping the three games in three days thing plays a factor in this one (although the Over's 2-1 so far today, so maybe not). Still, with the way the spread plays out, we're talking about the Americans needing to hit in the upper 80's for this to fly - just get the feeling the Brazilians are capable enough defensively to stop that from happening, but we'll see.

The US putting on a defensive display... Gotta love these unders where nothing's going on for the longest time, and then it just springs to life from out of nowhere, SMH...

Greece was a great call Hugh, they return the only all first team U 18 from last year's tourney, rest have moved on in age.

Switzerland/Bulgaria under 126
Isreal/Ireland over 148

Adding:

7/24/2015 11:30 AM International Basketball 1509 Serbia (U-19 - Women)* -11½ -120 vs Argentina (U-19 - Women)
*Fucking Mali came into this game shooting 24% and Chinese Taipei making them look like the Showtime Lakers... Anyways, Argentina's been fairly horrendous so far while Serbia's managed to hold their own, so hopefully this game goes a little more according to plan.

What are you using as a resource to cap these games AK? Seems like historical data wouldn't provide that much insight as the rosters fluctuate from one year to the next.

In other news, the Argentinians who had been averaging 49.5 PPG through four games coming into this one with 30+ at the break. Sometimes it's just not your day... Not that it's going to stop me, mind you, but still...

Some teams no matter the roster just play a certain style, like Iceland and Isreal like to play fast paced while a Sweden plays slow no matter what.

I just go on youtube and watch some of their games from yesterday and see what i can pick up...Croatia is for them shockingly bad, Macedonia sucks, Slovenia will get up and down the court, Scotland can't shoot...that sort of thing. After the first round I like to look at the best and worst teams for not just points but field goal attempts per game and see if any teams are really bad from the free throw line. Also look at the previous all U-16 team and see which teams might have an impact player coming onto the roster.

There was a much better crop of elite players in this tourney last year that's for sure.

Adding:

7/24/2015 6:00 PM International Basketball 1523 Canada (Pan American)/USA (Pan American)* Over 174 -120
*I'm beginning to realize this isn't as much fun when you start losing, LOL... I don't know, started the NBA Playoffs 5-0 and fell apart from there. Started Summer League 5-0 and jumped ship while I could still show a profit. Now a 5-0 start to these FIBA tournaments, and the momentum's clearly started to shift. Hopefully stem the tide with this one... Anyways, it's becoming increasingly obvious just how porous this US defense is (lack of effort, lack of ability, not sure), so can't really picture them slowing us down. As for the offense, shouldn't be too many worries given the pace our games have been played at. Plus, with this being one and done, should be able to get free throws down the stretch if it comes down to it. Should be an entertaining game nonetheless.

smileys-beer-129300.gif

So Canada has been flying up n down the court?
Good to know. Will jump on the over too

Just went through the pace numbers real quick: CAN 80.9, USA 78.4 which translates to CAN 97.1, USA 94.1 over a 48 minute game. In NBA terms, that would be the equivalent of the Rockets vs. the Lakers although, obviously, these aren't the Rockets and the Lakers, and we're talking about a sample size of three games. Plus, four games in four nights, although seeing as how neither side has bothered playing much defense to this point, odds are it's not the offense that's going to suffer.

MTD: 9-6, +1.85

Adding:

7/24/2015 9:00 PM International Basketball 1528 Argentina (Pan American)* -8 -110 vs Puerto Rico (Pan American)
*Kind of feel like I'm cherry picking my stats here, but Argentina pretty much lives and dies by the three (a whopping 45.9% of their shots have been from downtown, hitting at 31.7%). Meanwhile, the Puerto Ricans are giving up a fairly robust 38.6% from beyond the arc (number skewed a bit by the Brazilians shooting almost 50% in the opener, but still pretty bad overall), and 46.9% from the field overall. If the Argentinians can get it going from 3, this one could get ugly pretty fast; if not, well...

smileys-beer-129300.gif

Don't think I'll be up by the time the lines come out, so here's a table I made for the U-19 (just because I got tired of constantly having to look things up and because, for some stupid reason, the FIBA site only has offensive statistics, and no defensive). Probably should have included more advanced stats, but this should be good enough for now for the 5 people here actually interested in the tournament. Maybe I'll work something up for the U18.

Saturday:

7/25/2015 5:15 AM International Basketball 1501 Kilsyth Cobras/Brisbane Spartans* Under 157 -110
*Meh, I saw it on the board, looked it up, so... Anyways, these two played a few weeks ago to a 67-60 Kilsyth win. Neither side shot that well, but given the pace of the game, even an improvement to the low 40's might not be enough to push this over. Plus, Brisbane's reeling with 8 straight losses while Kilsyth looks like it has the lowest points per game average in the league (terrible offense, great defense), so hopefully the linesmakers aren't pulling a fast one on me here in my sleep deprived state.

*Well, this fell apart pretty fast... Anyways, if there's one team that can slow down the American attack, it's probably the Russians (to be honest, not positive they can't win this one outright), so won't be surprised to see this one be a ground and pound type game right til the end.

wow Luxembourg were at one point +23 in game and had the lead in the final 15s but just lost by last second bucket.
underdogs are pretty intriguing here as now this is the second stage of play for some of these teams.

I'd be wary of the overs in the B division hugh really a mess there.
Been keeping an eye on the big favs and seeing how they respond.

Also I have noticed that the mediocre favs will come out firing 1H but will fade in the 2H.

The discrepencies can be huge but often some teams are just heavily favored because their opponents are shit rather than them deserving to be that heavily favored.

Yeah, I pretty much dropped the ball here. Hard to cap a game properly when you're not really familiar with players/teams (although, at the same time, when Ireland and Iceland combine to go 12-63 from 3, and the total lands on 139, not much you can do about that...) Plus, like you said, the big favourites haven't really been covering at that high a clip from what I've noticed (I think there were three favoured by 20+ yesterday that only ended up winning by single digits).

In any event, not like I was betting my usual stakes on these games - gave me something to do during my downtime at least. More embarassing than anything else, but oh well.

Good luck with the rest of your bets.

Israel were at one point -26 in game and ended up losing to Denmark who were 6.99 ML underdogs
Slovakia were in cruise control as 1.09 ML favs and then ended up losing to Scotland

Generally the favs do win but during in game there is an overreaction.

I managed to get Italy +18.5 +17 and +16.5 in game knowing full well that they are a legit squad and that Greeks just came out firing and there was plenty of game to be played.
Greeks won by 11
