I'm done.

Here is what I do when I get in a slump.
before I hit submit. STOP. REVERSE my pick Then hit submit.
Try it tomorrow on a few early gms.

Whatever allows you to enjoy the sport and the games is what you should do.

I would second wiseplayer's comment to just bet for the fun of it so if you lose, no big deal hopefully you watched a good game and had some excitement. If that is not for you then maybe you can just follow your local or favorite team.

My advice would be to stay involved. Only you know what is right for you.

Keep your head up. Tomorrow's another day.

I look at it as entertainment tax. It adds some excitement to Saturdays & Sundays. Tell me how else youre going to give a ahit about a Giants/9ers game?

Im done using locals, all set meeting a guy at a bar or parking lot to shell out a couple hundy each fucking week & rarely take money from him. Throw what you can afford to lose into an offshore book & play some games with low expectations.

I too have been like this. I am sure most of us have. I will print the card, run my numbers and pick every side/total without placing a wager. Depending on your playing style, this will allow you to adjust your analytics/powers/or test your historics.

Someone mentioned above to stay active on-site. I am sure you have figured out that this is more of a community than other sites. We are all here to learn from each other. GL with whatever you decide.

I remember when Blood Hound was around and I sent him an email complaining about how much time I invested in capping with little to no return for my time.

He told me that you need to think of gambling as a hobby, and that hobbies cost money to enjoy.

Didn‘t know bloodhound but that‘s really great advice. Bet within your means and if you don‘t feel like betting just take a break. Likewise if you‘re a movie buff you don‘t have to buy every movie that comes out. Just sit back and enjoy the action.

Me I don‘t bet as much money as a lot of guys on here cause then I get too angry. I spend a lot of time capping but only cause I enjoy it. Like an intellectual activity combined with sports.

Next year get in a betting contest instead of just making weekly bets with a book.

There is no better way to learn how to handicap football than to get in a reliable contest. And I don't mean something like the Golden Nugget contest which is loaded with very good handicappers. I mean a friendly contest with guys at your level.

Start a contest with your friends if you can. PM me and I'll send you the rules for how to run one.

If your friends aren't interested in betting football let me know and I'll see if there are openings in a few I know of. I know of a couple of good ones for reasonable entry fees--one $300 another for $1,000--and most of the entrants are guys with a full time job who just enjoy testing their skills. The best ones are damn good, but they learned how to do it in the contests.

You can learn a lot from a contest and learn it pretty rapidly--by rapidly I mean within in few seasons. There are lot of advantages to a contest: 1. Your money is already paid in advance so week to week wins or losses of money do not influence your judgement. 2 You have an exact, season-long record of your performance, something you can learn a lot from, but which very few people keep, 3. You see all the picks listed next to each other and start to see patterns and trends that good pickers use week after week and see the mistakes bad pickers make week after week.

Just betting money week after week without a precise record of your own betting patterns and no way to know the top guys are doing so you can go back and learn from it is a HARD way to learn. It's the way most people always had to learn--I'm one of them so I know. it takes a long time and costs a lot of money.

You walk into any sportsbook and my guess is 90%, maybe more, have no real idea of what their record for the year is. That's why it takes most bettors so many years to finally learn how to do it. I believe any handicapper will get better after a year or two of betting in contests, and it's a lifesaver for a guy trying to learn how to do it.

Blood was right, its solely entertainment unless you have the time and resources committed to it as more of a full time job. Which basically means you don't have a full time job, you focus on one sport per season, you don't have a wife, kids or maybe even a house to keep up.

And by the way capping can be overrated, especially if you don't know exactly what to be capping, watch the damn games and make observations. Knowledge is power and if you have knowledge of the teams you are betting you can win $$ recreationally or at least stay afloat if you simply know the sport well, especially in football.

I have a buddy who bets $5-$20 on games just to stay in the know for a few weeks at a time of what is going on. That way when he decides theres a game he really likes or has dedicated time to bet larger he has knowledge of things and will all of a sudden make a 1-2K wager. You don't always have to bet large to lose your ass, just have fun with it.

That's exactly what I do. I've enjoyed wagering more and more as I go the entertainment route. Once in a great while I'll stick my nose out but it has to be something I really like. Also, I bet 5% or less of my bankroll. A real good play I'll bump it to 10%.

Take a few weeks off. Ive been there llenty of times. Try picking games for the next weekend or three like books said. Once you feel rejuvenated jump back in casually.

I had to lose for a few years before learning how to go about it all. Only focus on 3 sports now and it helps.

PM me if you want to chat.

I think he was a bit sensitive to disagreement. Seemed like he took things to personally and got a little offended when people said he may be wrong on x pick. Which isn‘t the fault of anyone here nobody should need to be babied and nobody was mean or anything well besides the MAC guy who can‘t help himself :) oh and s-k is soooo mean. Just vicious

Itll be 2 years on Thursday that Bloodhound passed. Miss that guy

For those of you who didn't know Bloodhound I apologize to you, you missed out on knowing one of the best people to step foot on this planet. A great man who always had kind words backed with wisdom. He was a solid capper of mlb & cfb who will never be forgotten by those who knew him. I believe he might be the best capper heaven has ever seen, heaven certainly is a better place with the Hound there.
