Gambling Scandal (Billups, Rozier arrested)

I was a harness horse trainer and owner for years. In every sport where there is a human factor your going to have cheating. But it is usually limited to a very small group. In horse racing I knew who the cheaters were and the judges did too. Having proof to stop them is another story. Eventually most go down. And the vast majority are on the up and up. Glad to hear the FBI made the bust. It will hurt the NBA short term but will deter many longterm. I don't bet NBA or NFL, just a preference, still glad it happened.

Best thing that can ultimately come from this (won't be today, or the next time, etc) is that these guys learn that once they think they got away with it, they have to realize that someone *might* have been watching and *might* continue to be watching every minute of your life going forward. I haven't read up to know how long ago these incidents were or if they've been ongoing but ultimately the only way to stop it is to have the threat of being uncomfortable going forward knowing they might not have actually pulled anything off.

And there's still those who think the NFL isn't rigged. It may not be but those who think so may be correct.
Everything is "rigged" to some degree, it goes well beyond sports and why laws exist. Nothing is more rigged than the financial industry and policy, humans, wealth and power always promote cheating. Sports leagues probably do a better job of governing it than many industry leaders do. (And we know how shady some of those characters are)

I just will never get it. Rozier makes what $22m per year. How much can his take be throwing his prop bets? Don't these guys setting this up know they'll be flagged by monitors?? Billups?? These guys make millions per year. I can see college kids not making NIL or mainly non pro refs but everyone else is making 1000x what they can make from gambling.

Kinda crazy when you think about it how much easier it's been to track insider trading since sportsbooks with a fiduciary loss at stake are involved. Imagine how an agency like that would prosper managing insider trading in the corporate world! Difficult to prove for sure, is it just easier to monitor athletes who don't have the knowledge in how to properly cover their tracks?

Ron burke what?

What tracks VK and best horse you trained. I bet it for peanuts almost every week (and lost almost every week) for a few years .. mainly meadowlands at the time (not a fan of the short tracks).

Just reading the indictments and two things...

a) Public v non-public information: where is the line in the sand drawn which is what insider traders have used forever as an argument

b) should a certain dentist in Ohio be concerned or has the statute of limitations passed?
