Washington first half and game. A little worried about the Washington pen since they used their best tonight but I am assuming based on the pattern the Cardinals may not try so hard.

I like Wash for the 1st 5 certainly, not sure I can do the whole game.

I will give WSox a long look, maybe a Mets TT over,

whats your thoughts on the Cubbies mindset going into that 2:20 start tomorrow, get pounded 10-0 yesterday, now the heilmann blow up in the 10th 8-2.
You got Taylor (0-1, 9.82 ERA) vs. Harden (2-1, 3.86 ERA).

one thing for sure is, toronto off the past two games where the starters have been shellacked, holliday will be going at least 7, good or bad start....

Interested in -

Nats look interesting but to be even slightily favored vs STL is a stretch . Zimmerman has not impressed me ability wise but has with his ability to get out of sticky situations . Have to see where that line goes but have to think it sees more Wash action which only makes STL more attractive . Tough game to decipher though as STL has looked vulnerable to LHP..

FLA says they love velocity and face Harden but Marlins pulled out the win today and Taylor didnt throw enough strikes vs Philly and the RHs could tee off on him IMO...

Hard to say anything about Mets- Philly maybe interested in Mets 1st 5 ML as play on the SP..

Thinking maybe reds but they dont win to often away with Bronson on the hill . The have had some success vs LH away in low scoring games . Pitt has held u well despite the injuries . need to look at past history

after my failed attempt on ZONA today of course it lines up for a play on MILW because they see a LHSP. Research needed..

Who knows whats up with Peavy but wow dogged to Kershaw ! SD is hot and cold vs LHSP and they have been cold lately so maybe an UNDER ....

Ubaldo hasnt been right so tough to back now...

Considering LAA hung tough today and with Pettitte's issue vs them last season hard to get interested in the Yanks. Also Weaver has struggled vs NYY in the past and been nails only at home in 2009....

Halladay should be able to keep Balt in check but think another over may be in store . Have to look at some past history here ....

Like BoSox to bounce back after losing 13-0 ...

Pavano absolute mystery not sure how Galarraga has fared vs CLE though

the way Texas hit vs a LH today bodes well for Buerhle but have to check his history. Feldman can be solid at times and he should be tougher on RHs. Maybe another under ..?

think Ponson has some solid history in Minny but not positive and that could maje KC interesting at this level.......

Oak-Sea is tough might have to lean Eveland though ...

more tmrw ...

I want to rant about the Mutts real fast.

I know SN did this once already. I listen to WFan for litterally 6 hours a day at work, I have trouble connecting to other sports radio websites from work.

The Mutts have no heart, they have no leadership, and they have no killer instinct at all. They are one of the hardest teams in the league to grasp for me because you see this lineup with all these guys batting over .300 and they are batting nearly .100 with RISP. Its quite sad when you think about it.

Going into the Phillies series, they couldn't have possibly asked to face a better set of pitchers, Chan Ho Park, Moyer, and Blanton and somehow, someway, the Mutts will likely end up losing this series and for 6 more hours on Monday I will have to hear their fans cry about how they can't score with men on base, about how their SPs let them down, about how they don't have Manny, or how bad Daniel Murphy is in LF. Its an every day theme with these guys.

With that said, I kind of like the Mutts in the first 5 innings against Park or least a TT over, I can see this team shutting it down like they have all year after they get a lead and some how finding a way to lose late.

Nutt, Did you watch Zimmermann mow through the Mets? I thought he looked very good in that start personally.

saw him throw against ATL.. i disgaree with SN big time on this one. Guy has real good stuff

I agree. Consistent 93-95mph with his fastball, good control, and he was throwing his curve for strikes as well. He tied up a lot of Mutts. I think he sawed through more than a few bats and was killing LH batters with a slider

and it will be first time cards get a look at him

Was scared of backing FLA off a 10-0 loss here so thats a good point . Rough spot for Cubs coming back from Zona , losing in xtra innings and early start ...

Still huge mismatch and just cant see how the Cubs dont win. Taylor struggled throwing strikes at home and facing a heavy LH lineup and the direct opposite here . Have to look at the cubs pen to see whats what because of Hradens repeated failures to go deep in games .

Last yr 2 starts vs FLA lasted 5 innings both times ..
10.2 inn 7 h 2 r 2hr 5bb 15ks .....

Fla has 3 straight late inning wins now beating the Mets twice think 7th inn on and todays late win ....FLA starters have not been that sharp so do they just leave Taylor out there ? Remember it was just Sunday he started ..

Cubs are notorious under players on Friday games but may elect more for CUBS TT over and FLA TT UND then the total . Harden at times doesnt get run support which has made him not so good laying -1.5 on big lines from what I recall.....also Harden in day starts tends to be filthy while his ERA doesnt look good think he had 27Ks in 15 inn in day starts so far..@ MILW , vs COl which think it was real cold and @ STL.....

just dont like he had 4 starts of 8 home starts that I saw at home last season which he ws -200+ that were 1 run wins...still dont think he the SP was as favorable. Last year he was like -240 vs FLA with Volstad and this Taylor kid is no Volstad......

Lean : Cubs 1st 5 ML , Cubs ML , Cubs -1.5 RL , FLA TT under and Cubs TT over seem solid . Now I rarely lay chalk when it gets to above -220 usally look at the RL or parlay options unless I feel its a layup which because of the past 2 days not so sure ....

Just one problem. It does not fit the pattern. I actually looked at the game 2 after a road win games and the Cardinals lead in the first half and then lose. First half is SO logical i have to play it but I have a bad feeling that somehow it loses and Washington wins late. Just thought I would mention the problem. First half play does obviously make sense but sometimes that does not mesh with the world.

Let me rephrase that . Its not his stuff that I didnt like more about command and crispness. I dont feel like when he is on the hill he will breeze through lineups and kinda feel thats the excitement surroudning him. I think the word I am lookng for is simply inconsistent but its his good stuff and presence that has helped avoid serious trouble. Does that make sense..? I actually didnt see the 1st inn and know he got screwed when Dukes lost the ball in the sun...

just thought he didnt throw alot of quality 1st pitch strikes to the mets core hitters ...

Its not that I am down on him by any means ......

I can make a case for either team in this game but on paper agree thats it WASH that looks better ..

Actually looked and maybe its just that he struggles to find himself early because it seems both starts in the mid innings have been his best ...

Understandable Nut. I do think pitching his first ever road game in front of 44,000 might of factored a little bit into not being able to get the first pitch strikes but this has been a kid who traditionally has very good command.

makes sense to me though what you are saying ...JoJo Reyes kept them quiet the other night and STL led 1-0 till the end of the game when their pen struggled. Wash defense doesnt help matters either another 3 unearned today . Tavarez has been solid but was the villian today . One day he will get a clue and use Kip Wells for more then an inn but think the pen could be okay if Well is available , bergmann and Hanrahan ...think then Wash -1.5 RL....

think some of my confusion on this game stems from how strong they priced the series for STL considering how low the lines are . I might be trying to out think the oddsmakers here and overlooking facts ...

:shake:

again fair point . kinda slipped my mind that he played at D3 school as well if I recall correctly and not much exp above A ball...

I do like the kid and maybe I am being unfair ..

also if Ludwick is out again thats a key loss

Actually its Ludwick and Khali Greene out ....2 key hitters

0-6 away vs LH to finish last year and 2-1 so far this season . With a 2-1 win and loss. 27 runs in the 9 games which is 3 per and just 3 games above that 4,6,7 ....

might setup an under play ...:shake:

Mariners 11-2 L13 games vs LHs and 4-1 to date in 2009 so scratch what I said about that game for now..

also Pettitte was as bad as I recalled vs LAA last season it was more the final scores that looked ugly ..

Just an average bet on Washington minus 5 cents. Turns out the history is also Washington wins at home on Friday vs the Cards so i am just going to let the teams find out how to do it

also if Ludwick is out again thats a key loss

Ludwick just had the day off and give all 3 LH outfielders a shot against a RH starter. He'll be back in there today.

Tyler Greene figures to be the likely SS again tomorrow with Khalil Greene's arm issues.

Actually its Ludwick and Khali Greene out ....2 key hitters

0-6 away vs LH to finish last year and 2-1 so far this season . With a 2-1 win and loss. 27 runs in the 9 games which is 3 per and just 3 games above that 4,6,7 ....

Nutt, Zimmermann is RH

Ludwick just had the day off and give all 3 LH outfielders a shot against a RH starter. He'll be back in there today.

Tyler Greene figures to be the likely SS again tomorrow with Khalil Greene's arm issues.

My bad. Ludwick is getting over the flu as well.

ETG - I'm a Mets fan, and will start with saying that I think of myself as a fairly realistic one.
Last year, I knew they would not fare well, b/c they did nothing to fix their bullpen, just left it the same basically.
This year, they fixed part of it, but a great closer means nothing when the rest of the staff can't get you there. I had little to no expectations of this team b/c they signed nobody to help their starting pitching which I though was atrocious coming into this season.
So, I hear you w/ the mets fans calling in and complaining - these guys are blind I guess. It's annoying b/c they re-sign Ollie Perez, what the fuck did you expect from this guy???Jesus. He's exactly what he is, why do you complain about him/sign him? You know he's wild and inconsistent.
Anyway, sorry w/ the vent.
But you are right, no heart on this team/no fire. They have a lot of talent, but it doesn't seem to translate. If you play these guys, make it a 1st 5 play, as you said, they are terrific in the first parts of games, but can do nothing clutch

Young phenom pitchers, in this case, Jordan Zimmerman usually have about 3 starts before the league catches on. A bit of a scouting report is developed, and now its his turn for the adjustment. I agree he has good stuff, but throwing 103 pitches in 5 1/3 last start says he's still not ready to go Lincecum on us....

According to their system the Cardinals have to be competetive first half. Zimmerman has given up 3 runs in his first 2 5 inning games. Under 5 minus 5 cents.

as for the other games, i think Kershaw is going to have a good game tonight, but he still makes me a bit nervous and thats a big line to lay on someone that i don't have full confidence in...Peavy is not right, something is really wrong, imo - I might just go with the Dodger TT over there

tuck - small sample size, but the nats don't have great numbers vs. Wellemyer - .178 avg

Slowley 1st5-.5-125. Halladay 1st5-.5-160 if you aren't scared of the chalk. Two pretty big pitching advantages there :smiley_acbe:

I lean Pettitte 1st5 as well, despite his past troubles with the Angels. Weaver was knocked around in his only road start this season. Andy has looked pretty solid his last 3.

Might be a little eccentric here. Playing Arizona mostly first half and over for the game and first half. Brewers in second game of a home series have given up 6, 6, and 5 runs and are 1-2 in the first half and 1-2 in the game. Parra is 2-6 last 8 at home and is pitching in a bad month and at night which is not good for him. Both his previous starts were in the day against Arizona. garland has gone over 8 of his last road games not pitching very well. So far he has gotten 27 runs in support in 4 games with Arizona. Will throw in some team total also. have to see what is is. Do not trust either pitcher much but Garland at least has been good at night.
Team total was 4. He is averaging almost 7 runs of support a game. Ok. Team total probably the best on the game. Ump 6-4 over last 10
Could easily be wrong here but the next day actually pitchers go so this really looks like a day for fireworks.

Something to think about is:

Toronto is 3-0 Over on Home Openers
Baltimore is 2-0 Over on Away Openers

for 2009

Not so sure that Baltimore will score on Toronto but maybe a Team Total on the Blue Jays can be a good play, bats are alive and they dropped 2 for the first time in the year...

Think they will. Just came over to post over 9 plus 10 cents. This is nuts. last 2 home games Halliday has given up 5 each game. At night Baltimore is averaging almost 6 runs a game and Toronto is averaging about 6.5 runs a game. Might even be a game because Hendrickson has not been that bad away. Its at home he has totally sucked, Halliday a little worse on 4 days rest but he does improve some in May. First game of a series though Baltimore scored 4 runs once and except for that has gone higher and in the 2 first games of series away scored 8 and 10 runs.

Played Yankees minus 2.5 and over 10 even a little over 5.5.
Yankees good chart play. Weaver 3-7 last 10 on road. ump favors home teams and Yankees. Trust neither pitcher but do favor Yank pen. Andy is only 4-6 last 10 at home and just not so good in general but in his 4 home wins 2 were by 3 or more and only 1 by 2. Think he usually lost to good road pitchers and that is not Weaver who the Yanks hit very well especially at home. Shields only tossed 9 pitches which bothers me but a blind man could see Yankees bats heating up now. History of both pitchers Screams over here. Really hard to see Weaver winning away at night. Probably also use yanks ml in some parlay.

Seeing much discussion on the Dodger game. Would only play Dodgers but still passing. Peavy has pitched Super with this umpire. Do not need these complications.

AL

cle @ det : probably a stay away game but i would say detroit if anything.

laa @ nyy : yanks are probably a solid play but only on the ML for me. i actually lean toward to the under so i would have a tough time laying -1.5 in what i think could be a close low scoring.

bal @ tor : i like the doctor for sure but that's not saying much. think the over might be worth a shot because i think toronto could tee off but i also think doctor will give up a few.

bos @ tb : said TB and over yesterday but unfortunately didn't play it. this one looks pretty tough to figure again?

cws @ tex : like the under a great deal and the white sox a good amount.

kc @ min : probably wouldn't touch a side here but i like the over. KC is playing pretty darn good and it would be tough laying this much juice against them.

Under 5 minus 20 and under 9 minus 9 cents in Minn.
Last 10 at the site for KC we see 1 over 6 under and 3 pushes against the total. Slowey is on 5 days rest. His best. 1.95 era last year and a 6-1 record. He has faced this team 3 times and they have scoreed 1 run in each game. He also likes it best at night. Ponson last year in Minn had a 2.70 era and this is his best team. He is best in the early months and this season has had 2 good games, one bad game and one very average game. Playing Minn well is key to Ponson and he will give this game his best. Mauer back for Minn which will help the defense. Real lean to Minn here but when a good road team that is 9-4 at night and is going very good is getting money odds it is very hard to fire. Just hoping for a legitimate pitching duel between 2 teams going well and each wanting that winning streak to go on.
Really the total hinges on what effect artifical turf has on KC scoring and how real the scoring was recently. In the last game against Toronto the fire was feed with the early error for 2 runs and then in the last 4 innings Kc did not score even whiule the game was becoming close. Just have to make your best guess if you think it is worthwhile.

Just walked in and trying to read the thread and catch up on the games . Still not sure what happened in the Cubs game but I'll take it , had Cubs -1.5 RL . Saw that Harden had absolutely nothing in the 1st inn throwing 88-91 fastballs so knew he was in trouble but saw 5-2 FLA and a bunched of missed opps and thought Cubs might be done . Thankfully the Marlin has been working alot and the Cubs pen did its job for once .....nice to be wrong about a SP and win though ....

ETG in regards to Zimmerman dont mind me . I have my silly moments as well . For some reason I had it in my head that Jordan Zimmerman sounds like a LH and ever since I refer to him to as a LH . Probably done so everytime I mentioned him . The blessing of haveing ADD I guess .....sorry:shake:

Only play I have otherwise so far is Over Grand Salami runs but dont recall what it was w/o checking . Of course its raining here in NY and the 1st game produced 14 runs so if it looks good I am sure at least one game will be rained out ......lol ...

be back when I have something ......

Khalil hitting .218.........not an injury to worry about for Cards backers. Ludwick is over the little illness, he came in last night and is fine.

Khalil off little use vs RH but always a threat vs a LH but havent looked at his 2009 breakdown....:shake:

Thanks for the update on Ludwick..

Just an FYI but pretty certain Weaver's worst ballpark is Safeco . If correct makes that 1st start tough to weigh ...

However , something about this line just has me thinking they are begging for LA action . Expected a softer number ...its pouring here at the moment though as well.....:shake:

Lots of good stuff Tuck and think the one that you have me interested in is that UNDER @ Minny ....still sifting though and good stuff Jimbo as well but I am playing catch up so seems we both dont have much concrete.....

Looking at CLE ML but almost feel like I need to hold my breath or close my eyes.....RHBs vs Pavano to date 18/35 = .545 !!!!!!!! Just feel like they are owed a win after the 5-0 choke ...will see though:cheers:

Small bets on Pitt and regular on under. Trends will be broken no matter who wins but Pitt is clearly the Chart play and a team off a road sweep is very hungry. Under just fits no time for a write up.

I see the BC trend but regarding Tampa just totally discount it. Boston was one of their early consecutive wins and looking at last 20 these 2 have streaks not in and outs. Right now no play.

Ran off Pitt under. Duke 6-4 over at home last 10 and Pitt off very low scoring game. Just unsafe.

early starts went with : CLE , Reds , Phillies 1st 5 ml , Nats 1st 5 ML and ML just really couldnt decide on the other stuff....

Late games seem to be as tough as the lines indicate .

Think that COL ML will be a play . Unit has really only had the Zona start to be proud off . Jiminez has been bad the last 3 times after an enouraging start vs you guessed ARIZONA ! With Ubaldo he has a strong career trend of struggling when on extra rest and seemingly all his 2009 starts have been and so is this one. So why do I prefer the Rocks? Looking at everything think this should be a PK game . Ubaldo had held SF to just 5 runs in 4 starts last season and a 16/78 clip vs the current lineup. How bout .205 just 2 doubles with 1hr 5 rbi , 9bb 16ks. Sandoval should play but at any moment could be lost with a groin injury ...COL ,309 vs LHSP so far ...Unit was medicore , solid and excellent in his 3 starts vs COL last season

Also like OAK because SEA swept them at home already and Eveland had some success vs SEA last year . Silva has been serviceable and also pitched very well vs OAK in the past. Oak has been decimated by injuries in the TEX series losing 3 INFs...chave, nomar and ellis . Dont like OAK coming in from Texas but maybe that weighs more tmrw then here and the fact SEA has done well vs LHSP so far despite being at just 241 avg against them with a scary low 9 XBH in 174 abs ..have thoughts on the over as well nut obviously that contradicts my point against SEA to some degree

Out in SD its tough to trust eavy as the HR ball has really hurt him lately and is off 3 consecutive weak starts . Kershaw was solid @ SD but sick in his lone home start but coming off 2 poundings . Kinda like the UNDER 8 though or 1st H under though because SD has really floundered vs LH lately . I cant fade Peavy even at this time to Kershaw though and LADs pen being so-so...

trying to decide what I play.

COL 1st 5 inn ML and ML

A's 1st 5 ML and ML

more on the full games and scratch that lean to the SD/LAD under just not worth risking with how the pens performed yesterday and sp's not going that deep ..(Geer did kinda of ) ......
