Friday 02/28/14 NBA discussion thread

My guess is mnmgt doesnt care if they make the playoffs this year - team has crushed all expectations put themselves back on the map in AZ. Sold seats and advertising. Get another lottery pick and make a few trades draft night to bring in veterans to compliment what they have. Let bledsoe take his time and let the rookies play.. plus i want to see a healthy goran play vs atlantas defense sunday...
That is silly. The revenue from the playoffs is very real and everyone wants it. When they passed on Gasol they were playing SAFE which is usually a form of suicide. They got lightning in a bottle so they decided to pour some water on it.

^
i understand the revenue is very real. Were they playing safe or looking at what could be for the next 10 years? Mine is a guess. I didnt say owners, i said mngmt.

Whatever. They had a young team with a real problem at center and limited passing and very little post up. if they picked up Gasol it would have been a huge gain SU and the effect of some real help would have been a big pick up for the players. Did not happen. You get what you pay for. In this case trouble.
By the way Bobcats 1 unit plus 8.5

Not saying passing on Gasol was right but he's soft and far from a post up player. To me he takes to many plays off could be because no Kobe and knowing they're trying to get rid of you.

I like betting Charlotte at home, not on the road. Memphis looks to be in a good spot. OKC struggling, and was pointed out OKC going to miss Perkins in the middle. OKC struggling, public gonna have to deal with that.

Looking at the Pelicans as well, would like to know about Davis status. Phx seems ready to come back to earth, although they do have a solid rotation and a belief in what they are doing. Hard to say that about many teams.

Ugh the more I think about it the more the Cleveland line looks short a couple points. Beginning for Cleveland money.

So I've had conversations with the days of the weeks guys. Not interested in the 2013 numbers, but I like these 2014 numbers. That being said, hard to take any games where the Fakers and the total is involved seriously.

Former Raptors general manager Bryan Colangelo admitted on Friday he tried to tank a few seasons ago.

Commissioner Adam Silver said no teams were tanking in an interview last week, so he's not going to be happy to hear these comments. Colangelo added that he never told his coaches to try and lose games. His team did finish last in the division in 2010-11 and had the third-worst record in the NBA, and they did take Jonas Valanciunas in the 2011 draft who did not play with the team in his first year. The NBA will probably have to do some damage control from this one.

You want to back the Knicks with me?

Not really. Would play Knicks if held against will with gun pointed at head.

Game is the hot dime across the bar winking at you but little do you know that she is riddled with chlamydia and the herp.

Risky either way.

HA good analysis. Except there is no CBB to bet, so I need some NBA action.

Books that matter holding juiced 5.5's on the Dubs does say Bricks maybe the right call.

if the warriors werent coming off a 20 pt loss i would think about taking the knicks, the team is just not good... melo is doing way too much and i dont know how he can continue doing what he is doing without breaking down eventually

you can play the "felton is going to jail so he should put everything he has out there" card but he is out of shape and pure dog shit right now

check that droped to -102. Knicks are on my do not bet list with Denver. FWIW, Spiro opened at 4.5

[h=2]JAZZ AT CAVALIERS, 7:30 P.M. ET[/h] February 28, 2014 · 6:41PM
TV: League Pass

  • The Cavaliers only have 11 players in uniform as center Anderson Varejao (back soreness), shooting guard Dion Waiters (left knee hyperextension), and shooting guard C.J. Miles (left ankle sprain) remain out and will not travel with the team for its Saturday game in Memphis. “All three of them took part in some of our shootaround today and are getting closer, but there is still no timetable,” Cleveland coach Mike Brown said. Top rebounder Varejao is sitting out his ninth straight game, sixth man Waiters will miss his sixth in a row, and Miles is unavailable for the fifth consecutive contest.
  • The Cavaliers’ starters are All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving, shooting guard Jarrett Jack, small forward Luol Deng, power forward Tristan Thompson, and center Spencer Hawes. Cleveland is 7-6 since Brown paired up natural lead guards Irving and Jack in the backcourt. “The biggest thing that’s done is giving Kyrie the ability to play off the ball at times,” the coach explained. “They’re also really learning how to space the floor and execute certain things together, which makes the game easier for both of them.”
  • The Cavaliers trail Atlanta by four games in the race for the final Eastern Conference playoff spot. Cleveland is 7-3 since Feb. 7, but has lost its last two contests at Quicken Loans Arena. Irving is averaging team highs of 22.0 points, 7.8 assists, and 41.0 minutes over the last five games, while Jack is averaging 11.6 points and 4.4 helpers during the same timeframe. “Jack is helping their team a lot by being in their starting lineup,” Jazz coach Tyrone Corbin said. “And Kyrie, of course, is just being Kyrie.”
  • Utah’s lineup is rookie point guard Trey Burke, shooting guard Gordon Hayward, small forward Richard Jefferson, power forward Marvin Williams, and center Derrick Favors. The Jazz has won two games in a row, but begins a grueling six-game, nine-day trip in Cleveland. “Teams around the league are driving themselves to finish the year strong, so this will be a test for us,” said Corbin, whose squad will travel 4,895 miles during its Eastern Conference journey.
  • Columbus native Burke will be playing his first NBA game in his home state. The University of Michigan product leads all rookies in free throw percentage (.910) and ranks second in assists (5.5). “We already had the experience with Trey going back to Detroit, and he handled it well,” Corbin said. “Hopefully, he can calm down real quickly tonight and have another good game.” Burke expects to have 30 friends and family members in attendance.

TV: ESPN

  • The Warriors (35-23) have won four of five.
  • Golden State is expected to start Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Andre Iguodala, Jermaine O’Neal and Andrew Bogut.
  • When Curry last played at Madison Square Garden on Feb. 27, 2013, he went off for 54 points, making 11-of-13 3-pointers. Carmelo Anthony scored 35 points in a 109-105 Knicks win and J.R. Smith added 26.”We played well, too, but he just had an individual game that was phenomenal here in the Garden,” Knicks coach Mike Woodson said. Raymond Felton will start on Curry.
  • The Knicks (21-37) will start Felton, Pablo Prigioni, J.R. Smith, Anthony and Tyson Chandler. They are without Amar’e Stoudemire (rest), Andrea Bargnani (elbow), Kenyon Martin (ankle) and Iman Shumpert (knee).
  • Anthony is averaging 38.8 points in his last five games and has scored 40+ in three of his last four.
  • The Knicks have lost four straight and 10 of 12. They are 2-10 in February after going 10-6 in January. “Mathematically we’re still in the hunt in terms of trying to get that eighth spot,” Woodson said.
Adam Zagoria

Tyreke Evans got stuck in the elevator at the team hotel. He made it to the arena though. Anyone taking Pelicans? Suns are 1-7 SUATS L8 coming home from Utah.

Grizz get it under 10 in the 4th and the coach keeps his starters on the bench, OKC on the other hand put their starters in.
