Free Agency and Trade Discussion March 2026

I have decided that the 2nd pick in the draft is VERY available and any team that is willing to trade their 27 first round pick to move up can have this extremely valuable asset.

This draft has to be one of the worst I've ever seen. You've got Mendoza and then no QB worth picking in the first three rounds, no great WRs, a bunch of mediocre defensive lineman and of course a safety being pushed who isn't exactly the next Ed Reed. Every team other than the Raiders should be looking to trade down and accumulate picks in the 27 draft which will have multiple QBs and a sure thing wide receiver in Jeremiah Smith.

Been waiting for you to comment on the David Montgomery move @B.A.R.
Not at all a surprise.

I meant to start this thread on Monday and just got behind on other things to be honest....

Most figured Monty was gone as the season wound down. The cryptic social media posts of his locker and basically saying goodbye after the home finale definitely was a sign.

The other issue -- MCDC didn't use him as much as DM would want to be used. And, as a fan, I agree with the player here. I was very critical of Dan's use of the run game later in the season. I've been consistent with my questioning Ben back in 2023 in some road losses when he abandoned the run in the 2h after very successful first halves.

I think there was a small path to him coming back and the Lions worked with Monty to send him to a spot he liked. Credit there.

Now, as far as the trade...

1. I'll miss Monty. He's a locker room guy who was a huge part of the last 3 years. He has a few solid years left.

2. RBs are quite replaceable. Remember when the Lions let Jamall Williams go after the 17+ TD season? The fans were very upset. Enter Monty.

3. The trade itself is excellent. I'll give it a B+, and that might be low. There are some signs this backup OL wasn't used/developed properly. We'll see. The draft capital is much needed.

Mendoza MIGHT be a late first rounder in a normal draft

Cal Mendoza is a day 2 guy, he caught lightning in a bottle in Indy and the worst QB draft in our lives to end up being number 1

Since this isn't a draft discussion thread I'll keep this simple...

You might want to review QBs drafted first before that statement.

Just saying...

All signs are Jets

Thennnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn maybe Minny
I'd be surprised since he is probably good enough to ensure they don't draft first in 27 and thats the goal. I expect Kyler to end up with a winning team like Minnesota or Pittsburgh where he can start or backup someone like Mahomes. The jets really need to roll with Fields again or go with a vet scrub like Andy Dalton.

Jamarcus??

Tim Couch!?

Mendoza has the tool set. System and coaching will be a factor.

Let's not talk like those Hoosiers were supremely talented at the skill positions. We would be fooling ourselves saying as much!
I set JaWalrus up on a tee

Tim Couch was when I was maybe 25 lol

The problem with this draft is the best players are at positions that aren't positions you take with top 5 picks.

Starting to see mocks having the Cards taking Love 3rd overall which would be devastating to take a RB that high. He literally would have to produce at CMC level to justify that and even then the injury level is significant

I keep hearing and reading the "experts" talking themselves into Love being a better prospect than Bijan ...One dude was saying top 5 pick for sure .

People were just high fiving at a card show when the news broke of the Bills resigning McGovern...After the trade for DJ Moore Bills Mafia thought McGovern was as good as gone .

Mendoza is as sure thing as you can get at #1. He can make every throw, he is on the spectrum, and can run. Full qualifier.

Lamar can't win a big game. Just like Josh Allen. Maybe the new coaches will do them better.
Can't argue. He gags in big games. Im a little more lenient on Allen. I do think a change from Harbaugh will help. Think Minter and Crosby will be combo to help Lamar get over the hump. Imo Crosby is an All-In move with Lamar and most of their stars in their final prime.

He's a low budget Aaron Rodgers for me but I'm not paid to make that assessment. ARod is likely more dramatic and at least won a trophy so I don't know where you put Mendoza other than on his ass 50 times next season.

I'd put a ton of blame on Sean McDermott..He was supposed to be a defensive guru ...Take the Broncos playoff game last season , the blitz worked and he stopped doing it , using his usual playoff prevent style defense ...Sure Allen turned the ball over but he was throwing to absolute bums like Brandin Cooks who if he catches the ball at that 24 instead of having it ripped out of his hands the Bills are likely off to the AFC championship..Before that loss Allen's playoff stats were on an insane run . 13 seconds , all on McDermott. Most the Chiefs losses in the playoffs Allen was on fire but once again instead of rushing Mahomes they let him stand back there forever especially in the 4th quarters .
Hopefully new DC Jim Leonard's 3-4 brings more heat when it matters .
