Want to see a significant change in the landscape of baseball this year compared to the last decade ?????

If anyone feels like posting it ......... check out the total games over .500 for each of the previous 10 years in mlb and compare it to the current number of games over .500 1/3 of the way thru this year.

I think what he means is we are past the 1/3 rd mark of the season and few teams are not hovering around around the 500 mark. There is a great level of medicority throughout the game. For the so called better teams they are few even just 10 games above 500 at this point and I think one or two above 15 games better then 500....think 4 teams 10 games or better and 2 teams 9 above 500..just Chi is better then 15 games above 500....

So he is asking how come ? How come few teams are clearly above the .500 level?

really isnt that much difference ...some slippage for sure with teams clearly above 500 as most in previous years were 12+ above but still a core of 8-10 teams doing well which has dropped to 6 this year...
 
sorry , i was not clear. I was talking about the record of HOME TEAMS .

Home teams are winning at an unheard of clip. Already , home teams are 140 plus games over .500.

When in the recent past for a complete season we saw home teams go a little over 200 games over .500 or in some years 170 games or so over .500.

This is incredible. At the current pace , home teams would finish over 400 games over .500. In other words more than twice the recent norms.

It has been a consistently great sport inwhich to bet road teams .... but not so far this year.

So it presents the question ,,,,,, is there a reason that home teams are winning at such an incredible rate this year compared to the last decade ? Could it be that scoring is down because there is less steroid use and the last at bat has therefore become more important ?? could it be that this is merely short term fluctuation and more away teams will begin to win the rest of the way ??

i will make a post tomorrow with the numbers. i am going to bed now ... but i think home teams are approximately 140 games over .500 already this year ..... just 1/3 of the way thru the season.

i believe in 2007 it was a little over 200 games for the whole year !

Will have to go back and make an accurate accounting but i think you should get the idea ..... at the current pace ..... home teams this year will finish over 400 games over .500.

that should be easily enough found out - how many teams have won bot of 9th/bot of extras
 
Nothing do with steroids . Steroids had little to no impact on the game just media fantasy. Naturally there were indivuals who benefited from steroid usage but as whole they impact they had on offense was much less then maple bats , bandbox stadiums , expansion and economic recycling of teams to make them look like expansion teams and the x factor the baseballs which definetly had more life to them whether they were spun tighter or simply different. Just like I believe they use different balls in the AS HR derby so they go further ...

Anyway the playing field has been leveled from a talent standpoint . There are no great teams anymore and just as important there really is no terible teams. O great importance IMO is the success of the younger generation of pitchers who will perform better at home.

So my belief is this pitching has improved greatly in the game except for bullpens which are at an all time low IMO in relation to talent. The last at bat becomes critical with poor pens because of the pressue to close a game.

Simply the home dominance is a reflection of equally talented teams across the game. Thats what happened in the NBA as well. There was the elimination of terrible teams to just 1 or 2 and the great teams as well were just a few . The rest of the league was mostly interchangable which is why teams dont win on the road. If teams play 6 teams and are basically of the same talent one would expect the home team to win 2 of 3 producing 3-3 records....Teams have struggled in the NBA playoffs on the road cause with narrow talent gaps its more likely the home team wins because you need superiority to win constantly on the road or the other end of the spectrum where teams are terrible.

So with teams basically all about the same talent level and having the weakest bullpens in the past 20 years home field is tremendous because if the games stay close the home team can find a way to win. Which is much tougher to do as the visitor.....

talk more in the AM...simply put all teams are in the pretty solid zone which combined with medicore pitching to finish games is creating a huge bias for home teams . It actually has to do with the economic side of the game as well....
 
We could see a dramatic reversion to the mean in the second half of the season. It may be at 140 gms above .500 now, but it could slow to a grind for the remainder of the season to finish at only 170-200. Or we could be witnessing an anomaly.
