I just got this proposed to me in my roto league. I am new to roto leagues so really dont know they ins and outs of how they work.

Trade
I give up: Pablo Sandoval and Hunter Pence
I get: Curtis Granderson and Ramon Hernandez

I actually don't mind Hernandez this year especially at Great America where he could hit 25 homers. Any thoughts on this would help me out a lot.

quick glance = no. you should be able to get a lot more games out of sandoval than hernandez, and at better #s. Just my opinion but i'm not a fantasy guru like some of the guys on here

ive played roto a few times and never really been great at it in baseball but usually want to build more balanced teams since every stat is important. you cant tank a stat like you can H2H. also need to have a few guys break out. depending on the rest of your team i think id still prefer having sandoval and pence unless may need SBs but Granderson gets maybe 10-15 more than Pence? Sandovals being available at 3 positions is pretty nice although youd probably be using him for C. Hernandez is an injury concern but I guess can be more productive if they return to form. Ive had bad experiences trading for guys whove been injured so that always worries me.

Does Sandoval still qualify at Catcher? If so, then no. Granderson=Pence, imo, and Sandoval has much more upside than Hernandez who's a known quantity.

Circling back on this, why is this trade proposed to you? Is it a "I just don't like Granderson so I'm going to offer him" move prior to the start of the season? What can you counter back with?

Well, you've got nice pitchers, but obviously your outfield suffers from presumably taking Johan and Felix early in the draft. I think you're probably going to struggle with mediocrity in your everyday lineup. IMHO, it is MUCH easier to attain pitching categories by playing matchups and being spot on with newcomers (e.g. when guys like Hamels and Lincecum finally get called up in years past). I always err to the side of having great hitters, or your battling streakiness with the Ty Wiggintons and Troy Glaus' of the world.

I see I've gone off on the advice tangent, but personally, if someone would overpay for Johan or Felix (find the "homer" in your league), throw a trade out there that adds some HR and RBI to your lineup.

:shake:

Yeah me and Fondy had this discussion right after the draft. I went far too heavy on pitching. It is a local league with all guys I know so really are no other fans besides Brewers and Cubs. I might dangle Johan out there and see what I can get off him though. He finally might start declining stat wise this year
