Derby Preps

So basically today and Saturday the main final Derby preps take place. Next week will feature the Wood Memorial, Blue Grass, and Santa Anita Derby.

There are already horses that have their Derby ticket punched, but more than likely, the Derby winner will come out of one of these 5 races.
 
Track harrowed at Oaklawn now. Should be pretty close to Fast by Ark Derby time.
 
I really think Cornucopian ends up going off at 3/5. Obviously a tough ask off one maiden race into this one but Baffert has done this before.

I have some 75-1 futures on Coal Battle and he's done nothing wrong lately, but I think 1 1/8 mile distance is his limit and I'd be surprised if he wins today.

Sandman will probably plod along for 3rd or so. That's what he does best at short odds.

I do think First Division and Publisher have a chance to outrun their odds.

Speed King is the X factor. He lost the race out of the gate last time. But I think Cornucopian is just faster and I don't think Speed King can sit off horses and win.
 
I dont really like this as a betting race. I'm hoping Cornucopian wins like a good thing so he will be 3-1 in the Derby and we will get a better price on everyone else.
 
I do like Tappan Street alot in the Florida Derby. Sovereignty is obviously the horse to beat, but he already has his Derby ticket punched and I could see him not 100% cranked.

But make no mistake, as it stands now, Sovereignty is a top 2 Derby contender right now.
 
So NYRA is so wrapped up in NY racing that they won't show what everyone actually wants to see?

I don't mind them during Saratoga but they really are way bigger in the head than they should be. Show us what matters, you're still paramutual turds

Horses aren't robots. They are gonna drift in or out down the lane when they get tired. If they are clear, they get the benefit of the doubt in my book.
 
You guys been to Hot Springs? I think I was 8 and didn't have a clue what was going on
 
Coal Battle ran ok. But he's not 1 1/4 horse.

Sandman finally had everyone in front of stop enough for him to get up.

I probably will not be using any of these higher than 3rd or 4th in the Derby.

Tappan Street is out. Damn. Thought he was the biggest threat to Journalism
 
I really like Take Charge Milady in the Oaks but I don't think there's anyway she goes off at her 12-1 ML.
 
I really think Sandman will be a really popular pick on Saturday and will close as 2nd favorite.

Yep complete fade already in my book. Everyone is gonna think he's the one to take down the Champ

Even if he does win it will be a saturated wagering market on him

I dont really like him either. He finally got a field strung out enough last time, that he was immune to getting into trouble. Hard for me to see him getting a clean trip with 19 other horses.
