Two night races Fri and Sat night this week...

Cup guys still going w/ the COT, so Hendrick parade here we come ...lol

Biff has won this two years running, but the 24 is the guy to beat IMO this week..

24 and 48 are just stinking up these races right now...and w/ the 24's record here (6 wins, 4 poles, 2nd 2nd 3rd last three)...expect much of the same..48 has four straight top 10's here too (no wins)...

This place is known for tight turns and tough to keep it off the wall..w/ how these COT's don't turn, it could be brutal keeping these things off the walls...expect some very slow lap times because of that..

24 and 16 got to tire test here, so advantage for the Hendrick and Roush group a bit...41 and 22 did as well for the other two manufactures...

the Penske crew got it together last two COT races, so that's where value might lay come Sat night...esp in the 12 car

I have one play locked in this weekend, as I'm going for a qualifying matchup for the first time since Daytona..

Qualifying Matchup

#12 Newman OVER #16 Biffle -125 (1 unit) 1.25/1.00

  • Jayski's - 2007 Nextel Cup Race Results Page
  • How to Calculate Track Speeds: use the formula Speed = Distance divided by Time. Distance is Track Length, and Lap Time into Hours. Once hour is 3600 seconds, so the calculation for a 48 second lap at Daytona(2.5 miles) would be: Speed = 2.5 x (3600/48), = 2.5 x 75 = 187.500mph. For a 19 second lap at Bristol(.533 miles): Speed = .533 x (3600/19), = .533 x 189.474 = a speed of 100.990mph
  • How to break a tie during qualifying? (same speed/time) When drivers are tied for a starting spot during qualifying, it is broken by owners points standings(not drivers).
  • Determining Race Line-Ups - Top 35 Guarantee: At the start of the 2005 season, NASCAR instituted a new procedure for establishing the starting race field in the Nextel Cup Series [NNCS]. NASCAR revamped the system by simplifying the procedure with teams no longer accruing provisionals throughout the season to gain entry into the starting fields. While starting positions one through 42 in the NNCS still will be determined by qualifying speed, the new system will assure the highest-ranked 35 positions of the NNCS OWNER [not Driver] championship points that have entered the event prior to the entry deadline [usually 13 days before the day of the race] one of those starting positions in the field, providing they have made an attempt to qualify [which usually means the team at least practiced and made an effort to qualify].
The remaining seven positions [36-42] will be assigned to those drivers with the fastest qualifying speeds whose car owners are not among the top 35. The final starting position [43rd] – the champion’s provisional – can be utilized by a car owner whose driver is a current or past Nextel Cup champion who participated as a driver during the current of previous season and was entered in the event for that owner in that car prior to the entry deadline.
If there is more than one series champion vying for the position, it will be given to the most recent series champion. If the final provisional starting position – 43rd in the Nextel Cup – is not filled by a current or past series champion, it will be assigned to the next eligible car owner according to qualifying results.
Through the first five races of the season for the Nextel Cup, the top 35 in the NNCS of the previous owner championship points entered in the event prior to the entry deadline will be assured one of the 42 starting positions in the field, provided they have made an attempt to qualify. From the sixth race on, the current owner championship points will be used to determine the top 35 each race week. In the event that conditions prevent qualifying from being run, starting positions will be assigned according to the respective series’ current Rule Book.(NASCAR PR)
Simple: so the field is set by speed to where the 7th fastest non-top 35 driver is on speed. The any drivers in the top 35 of OWNERS [not drivers points] are placed to the 42nd spot. The 43rd spot is used for the most recent past Cup champion NOT already in the field from being in the top-35 in owners points or one of the seven no top-35. If their is not past champ for the 43rd spot, it goes to the next fastest [8th fastest driver]
  • Past Champions Limited To 6 Provisional Berths in Cup: NASCAR announced an update to the past champion’s provisional rule in the Nextel Cup Series for 2007. Beginning this season, a past champion’s provisional may be used by an eligible driver a maximum of six times over the course of the season. In addition, a team with a past champion eligible driver may only use this provisional a maximum of six times during a season. Previously, there was no limit on usage of the past champion’s provisional over the course of the 36-race season. The provisional gives the eligible driver the 43rd and final starting position in the race field. "As NASCAR seeks to place more emphasis on competition, we have decided the time is right to limit the number of provisionals allowed,” said NASCAR Vice President of Competition Robin Pemberton. “We believe this revision brings the provisional policy in line with the continued growth of the sport.”(NASCAR PR)
This is only for a team/driver OUTSIDE the top-35 in owners points, drivers whose team is in the top-35 in owners points, would already be guaranteed in the field and not need the Past Champions Provisional.(1-31-2007)

Because soon, it’ll change.
Saturday night’s Dodge Avenger 500 will be the final NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race before the historic South Carolina track gets repaved.

In the past four races held at Darlington, there have been only two different winners: Biffle and Johnson.
Biffle won there last year and in 2005, and Johnson won both races in 2004.
Biffle, who led 283 of a possible 737 laps over the last two Darlington races, needs another strong finish there. Right now, Biffle sits in 15th place and hasn’t scored a top-five finish since Texas (sixth).
Johnson, though, looks safe as far as the Chase for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup goes.
But a win would mean a lot for the reigning champion: He would extend his potential Chase bonus point lead to 30 points.
He would match last year’s season-long total of five victories in just 11 races.
It would put him closer to first place – Johnson is now 211 points behind leader Jeff Gordon.
It would give Hendrick Motorsports eight wins out of nine races – including all five Car of Tomorrow races.
Among those hoping none of that happens is Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Tony Stewart.
Earnhardt is making his first appearance in the top 12 this week, while Stewart has yet to notch a win at Darlington.

“Darlington is one of the toughest tracks we race on and we’re going there with the COT which, like most teams, we’re still trying to figure out. Despite the success we’ve had there in the past, this will be a new experience. We’re close on getting the handling issues resolved with the No. 9 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge Avenger. I like the challenge the track presents and it is a challenge even with a racecar that’s working well. With the issues teams are having with the COT, it will be an even bigger challenge to stay out of trouble. Every one of the 367 laps will be a challenge. Getting away with just a Darlington stripe will probably signal a good day.
“It’s the Dodge Avenger 500. We would like nothing better than to win the event for Dodge and all the Dodge Dealers.”
“Darlington will be the first bigger track we have with the Avenger. It’s going to be an eye-opening weekend. It’s going to be tough to make that car work there. It’s going to be much different than what it’s been in the past, but I’m looking forward to the challenge. Darlington will be a big change for the COT, and that’s when all 43 drivers and teams will figure out the cars are a lot different than what we’ve been racing.”

“Darlington has been referred to as the track “too tough to tame’ over the years. Well, Darlington just got tougher. The Car of Tomorrow (COT) has been added to the mix. We’ve talked about racing the track in the past. There’s no question we’ll be racing the track Saturday night with our No. 19 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge Avenger. The task will be keeping our Avenger COT off the wall. Combine the track and the COT…Darlington just got tougher.
“I think we’re all a little frustrated that we didn’t start off the season like we wanted to. We didn’t have the COT down like we thought we should, but I tell you, I’m so proud of my race team. There’s no finger pointing, no blaming anybody. We just pretty much got together in a room a couple of weeks ago and decided nobody was going to fix it but us. I think it’s made us all a little stronger and made us pull together a little more. We know we’ve got some more work to do.
“There are a couple of things I can say about Ray (Evernham) and everybody at Evernham Motorsports. One, there’s no egos here, and two, there’s no finger pointing. We know we’ve got a problem to fix and we’re going to fix it. Kasey, Scott and I are going to do our jobs as drivers not only to help ourselves but to help each other.”

“It’s nice to have a few races under our belts and know what to expect with the Avenger and to see its general trend in setup start to develop with rear springs and swaybars and things. We actually took the Avenger down to Rockingham this past week and got it shook down and had a few questions answered getting ready for Darlington. That’s going to be a long Dodge Avenger 500 race down there. That’s going to be incredible how long that race is going to be. We hope we’re in the groove and running up front and running for the full 500 miles. I’d say this is going to be the ultimate test so far for NASCAR’s COT and The Dodge Avenger.”

“We had a big learning experience with the Dodge Avenger at Phoenix and ended up with an eighth-place finish. With just a little more time we can make it better. I’d like to see NASCAR make some changes, but I’m optimistic about it. We can work with it and make it better. Darlington is going to be an interesting race. It’ll be an exciting race. It always is. It’ll take everything we’ve learned at the first four COT races to contend with the Avenger at Darlington, but Bobby (Labonte) is a great driver and we’ve been working hard developing the Avenger at Petty Enterprises.”

Darlington will be the first COT race at a superspeedway, so who knows what’s going to happen? I don’t call it the COT anymore anyway. I drive a Dodge Avenger, and it would be great to see a Dodge win the Dodge Avenger 500 at Darlington.”

Big storm coming through, so expect a delay ....i think it'll pass trhough though..

Here's my plays tonight...biggest card I've played so far because I think u can sorta predict who's going to be up front..

#16 Biffle OVER #17 Kenseth -120 (2 units)...2.40/2.00

#20 Stewart OVER #29 Harvick -105 (2 units)...2.10/2.00

#2 Busch OVER #99 Edwards -105..(2 unit)s...2.10/2.00

Pretty disappointed on no lines for the 12 and the 8...was going to play the 12 in a favorable matchup and fade the 8...really like the 43 over the 42 too, but too much juice..

GL tonight boys.
