Cole to the Yankees (and other off-season moves)

so stupid...i don't know why parties agree to these lifetime contracts when it's likely a player won't even be in mlb 9 years from now. what percentage of contracts over 6 years are actually completed with the team it was signed with? probably like 1/3 of them at most.

Man the Angels are a bunch of cheapskates

How do these $ records just keep getting broken? Like at some point they gotta reach their sky right? Lol like how is anyone worth that money? If I can turn off injuries like in video games im still not sure he‘s worth that big of a hit

That type of contract doesn’t matter to the Yankees especially if they win a World Series

I think Giants fans will always love Bum but they are definitely going love him less if he goes to Doyers

Gut punch to Angels

The Angels are hardly cheapskates as the awful Pujols deal tells you that they just don't know how to spend their money. The problem with that franchise is that they have done a terrible job with scouting and developing. Its great that they have the best player in the game but they have surrounded him with garbage for his entire career.

They are nowhere near being a playoff team with or without Cole. Unless they start hitting on some young talent they will completely waste the career of Trout who is easily the best player in the last twenty years or so and one of the best ever.

Giants fans will continue to love Bumgarner as long as he doesn't sign with the Dodgers.

The cheapskates bit was meant ironically

Best case scenario for the Angels is finishing in third place. Complete waste of money signing Rendon when they have no pitching and a mostly terrible roster.

Baseball needs to shorten the goddamn season. Don't need to be playing into November with ski masks.

So many people have such short attention spans nowadays.

Can you imagine baseball with a 100 game schedule and 16 teams in playoffs? Go from May to September. Be epic.
It would be fun. It's just a rough culture we live in now... To have the old season how it is.

It doesn't work. It's great summer fun to go to games.. But can you see kids nowadays watching 9 inning 3.5 hour games on TV in its entirety anymore? Not me.

Definitely not. 2.5 is a solid length for hockey, basketball and baseball. I do support the 3 batters faced rule to help shorten the games a bit.

I haven't read about that one yet. But for the love of God 162 games is too much in this day and age. Radio is over. Hell, TV isn't used as much. Phones, tablets, with a million options for entertainment right on your fingertips.

Do you really think a rule like this is going to bring more viewers. You either like baseball or you don't and shortening games by a few minutes won't make a difference either way.

I don't know. I do know as much as situational baseball is fun .I don't know if I care for seeing 4-5 pitchers in an inning.

I don't think that leagues should dictate how a team should go about winning. Its hard to watch the last few minutes of a college basketball game when the trailing team continuously fouls and extends the game 20 minutes but they are doing what they can to win. I want my team to do whatever they can to give them the best chance of winning and if that means using 3 pitchers in an inning so be it.

Sports is about winning while following a set of established rules. If the rule changes, every team has to abide by it and, as always, the best teams find the best ways to win. So nothing really changes essentially, only the concrete strategy. But I agree with your point. Maybe the MLB wants to take an inch-by-inch approach....change the smallest thing and see if it makes the desired difference in fan feedback and viewership ratings....change the second-smallest thing and see if it makes the desired difference and so on. So that it has to change as little as possible to how the game has traditionally been played? Or maybe they should take a stab at a really big change like what HUNT proposed, which to me makes a ton of sense. It pisses off the grandpa traditionalists (surely the ones who always go on about the unwritten rules of baseball and so on) but it gets little Timmy to watch from start to finish before he goes on instagram.

More prospects mixed in we haven’t heard about potentially...?

Only way this deal makes any sense. I find it hard to believe that this was the best offer out there. Hopefully Cleveland got more because if this is it its just a terrible deal.

2x Cy Young winner BUT... when looking at it realistically he’s 33 years old, has had injuries, has gotten shelled when it matters and he’s expensive.

I will say @B.A.R.

I'd be more amenable to the rule, if it was say, only for the first 7 or 8 innings

Wouldnt be all on board but I'd prefer that, still like the idea of a specialist in the 9th

Big thing for capping is how does this effect lineup construction, and theoretically it should lead to an uptick in runs?

Ryu to the jays. Most of their offense is set. This offseason should rely most on pitching and maybe a good fielding outfielder that’s a gap/power hitter.

Big get. Rumours they want to try and bring back price and Edwin. Don’t think we get either though.

Edwin would be a great get. He’s loved there and his veteran presence and leadership would be great for the kids. I wouldn’t mind Price if he came cheap but only if they get him at a bargain

I don’t disagree, the city loves the parrot here. Problem I have is that they were unwilling to bring these guys back and now want them and are arguably paying more
