Championship Week Discussion Thread

I don’t think they’ll ever do away with the conference championships because of the revenue but if they ever wanted to fix this broken system, start the playoffs now and get it over by New Years Day. Have the National signing day be January 2 and move on.
Nobody would object with getting the season started in mid August either while the NFL is wasting our time with preseason football. It’s a pretty easy fix.

Yes, it makes sense, but it's not happening...

Remember December used to be somewhat sacred because it was "finals" and then family time with Christmas break many moons ago.

I realize this doesn't mean much in the big picture, but New Mexico losing out to UNLV for a spot in the MWC championship game is disturbing. They beat UNLV head to head on the road, beat San Diego St., who UNLV didn't play, played Boise 10 pts closer than UNLV & defeated UCLA by 25 on the road, while UNLV beat them by 7 at home. I'd like to know what categories the Rebels outperformed the Lobos in other than potential television ratings.

Unlv was the one team of the 4 tied who had 2 losses vs the others. They only had two losses overall, so that put them ahead of UNM in the metrics, who had 3.

They basically played the same non-conference schedule. They both played and beat Idaho St and UCLA. UNM played NMSU. UNLV played SHSU. That's basically a wash. But UNM played and lost at Michigan. Unlv played Miami OH. So UNM was penalized for losing at Michigan.

Look I'm not saying UNM should be in or not be in over SDSU or Boise, but UNLV should've been behind the other 3.

Absolutely.

I didn't do a Big Ten Thread but feel free to discuss Indiana and Ohio State in here.

The Hoosiers have been waiting for a big game for weeks now, and we'll see if they are ready.

Their trenches vs Oregon showed me that they are deserving this season.

The atmosphere in the Dome should be electric!

Yeah, I was I could say ohio was going to be more interested in this game but not sure how much it will be.

I know IU will be interested. Essentially a home game for it but ohio travels well we know.

I think the crowd will be 50/50.

OSU hasn't been to Indy in awhile but every time before I feel like it was a quasi home game for them.

UNLV Alum here and even I was like WTF HOW?!? But I’ll take it lol

Looks like a light rain, possibly around kick but should not be constant. Still might go, kids kinda bucking as is the old man.

2 coaches that are leaving their teams for bigger jobs. This isn’t the team Tulane likely wanted to face…I don’t have a good feel for this one, at all. I’ll enjoy as a fan and look to profit elsewhere.
Roll wave.

Indiana / ohio effectively for the Heisman which is an interesting subplot. A bit of question on ohio's incentive in the game v. Indiana. This little twist could be an important aspect on the level of interest both teams have, specifically ohio.

Thought I saw that Pavia passed Sayin in the odds. Though I agree that if one of these two QBs has a great game, that's your Heisman winner

OSU 100% will be interested. They haven't won the B1G since 2020. Listening to recent comments from Jack Sawyer (no longer there obv) the entire program feels like they had unfinished business from last year because of loss to M in The Game and another failure to win B1G title. Caveat all of that with the fact that I'm obviously biased, and I agree that if there were to be a letdown spot, between The Game and CFP makes sense, but this team has had numerous arguable letdown spots this year (Minnesota, Wisky, Purdue, UCLA, Rutgers) and is 8-1 ATS in conference (they did not cover Wisky, but watching that game, it wasn't so much a letdown as not needing/wanting to run it up to embarrass Fickell, who still has a lot of friends in the program and was on the verge of losing his job at the time). OSU also has motivation of potential Sayin Heisman.

Definitely understand the arguments for backing IU (which is an awesome program)/fading OSU, and again I'm biased, but there have been plenty of obvious spots for fading OSU this year but it would not have been an advisable strategy. BOL whatever you decide!

Good insights, thanks.

They better be motivated since I bet them when the line opened and have added since its dropped.

I'm way heavy on ML, been wrapping OSU ML + JMU ML + Texas Tech ML in parlays with big CBB faves ML daily all week to move it from ~minus-125/130 to ~+120/150. We'll find out tomorrow night if it's a sound strategy but at least I'm essentially getting OSU ML for +120 or better rather than -200.

And, it should be noted, my posted picks have sucked the past month or so, and I'm OSU alum, so it's entirely possibly that my entire perspective/approach is garbage. If so, at least it only cost me +120 instead of -200.

While you at it please help explain how the hell duke ended up in acc champ?? Pretty much every team in the conference has 2 conf losses far as I can tell, you would think if they gonna have these games the conferences would at least be smart enough to put teams in this game who could make the playoff! Maybe the 1st tiebreaker should be if you can’t beat ucon you stay home!

Kinda torn, my initial thought was unt but sure feels obvious, seems like most ppl like unt which on a line like this instantly makes me think im wrong. Just for shits and giggles I played both teams to score every qrtr +310. Might just play bunch of goofy props that would tie into a track meet cause I really have no clue.
