CFB Rankings Week #3

I absolutely agree with all that. That is exactly what we need. Objective criteria to determine who plays in the championship (playoffs for it). Though you say 8 conferences...don't we have 10...who gets to pick who the Top 8 are :)

But we don't have it, so until we do lets not be ignorant and pretend that Western Michigan is one of the Top 4 teams in the country. The system sucks. But until we fix it we should at least try to make it work the best way possible. The issues with the Big 12 and everyone else are enough of a problem without trying to pretend Wmich belongs up there.

So best way to say it is yes, they deserve a chance to play for the title in a perfect world...but in our world they don't

Agreed, and obviously agree with VK as well. Pretty sure he means that we need to restructure and get to 8 divisions, as there are 10 now (as you pointed out).

How about we have 8 10 team conferences. Everyone plays the other 9 teams in the conference. No conference champ game. The 8 conference champs then play a game to determine the final four. A bracket is established prior to the season on a rotational basis on which conference champs play each other year to year. These games can either be in neutral sites or some criteria is used to establish which team gets to play at home. Could make rules that the other 3 games have to be scheduled against teams in the other 7 conferences. On the one hand, might see more big time OOC games because there's no penalty for losing, but on the other hand, with nothing to gain, might not see them as much. Or could make it like the NFL where one year, the SEC plays all their OOC games against the B1G and so forth. The bowls operate as normal for all teams that didn't win their conference. Now, what to do with the other 48 teams? Either they play in a totally separate division, or there is some kind of promotion/relegation system put in place so that teams can move up. Now obviously, no school is going to sign up for less money, so there would have to be some kind of revenue sharing and then individual schools and their players are allowed to profit on their name brands. This will never happen, but this is the best I can come up with to have a completely "fair" system. Though it becomes more and more professional, but that doesn't really upset that many people any more

Just crown the SEC champion in ATL every year as THE champion and let the other four conference champions play the FF for 1B?

Just conduct a poll before the year. Don't play a game. Then give the highest ranked team the championship. Cut down on concussions that way.

Ville was just looking past Houston last night. I don't think we should drop them in the rankings.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned in the call for taking conference champions is that the conferences not only in quality but also in quantity. It's not fair to the members of 14-team conferences that PAC and Big 12 teams have an easier path simply because they have fewer teams to compete with.

But they play 9 game conference schedules, while the SEC and ACC play 8. The traditional big schools (USC, Texas, Oklahoma) don't schedule Charleston Southern, Chattanooga, etc. Every SEC team plays an FCS team this season, as does all bar Louisville in the ACC. Big 12 and PAC 12 each play 8

Let's just rotate conferences. So this year SEC, MWC, BigTEN and Pac12 get their conferences to go and the rest are excluded from being able to win the title.

Then next year we have sunbelt, mac, ACC, AAC .. all other excluded

Then year after that cusa, mac again, big12, independents .... all others excluded
