MLs and pt buying now out at BOL for Thursday games.

May use some of my FP on a few ML Dogs but not sure yet. FIU looks appealing at home +295 but will wait and see how the rest of the board shakes out before deciding if I want to go that route with some of the FP investment.

Should have time to have thoughts on full card once I get it locked up Wednesday. Will also include thoughts on the Heels game since we are leaving Charlotte Saturday morning for Atlanta so we can do Coca Cola as well as the alumni tailgate events and pep rally leading up to the game.

If you're looking for food and not eating at tailgate, Smoke Ring BBQ is right by Coke/Dome and it's good stuff. Fantastic smoked wings. Enjoy the game!

Thanks for the recommendation, the older I get the more I enjoy smoked wings over the deep fried ones, and I am sure my heart enjoys them more also!

Louisville -38 110

First, I want to point out that I would still play this one at the current 39/39.5 that is widely available out there right now as there is nothing special about getting it at 38, I just saw value in that when it came out as I have Louisville winning this one by 45+ and for me, plays are all about variance vs the posted line.

I won't do a long detailed writeup or anything, as there are tons of guys here on this site that are much better than me at that sort of thing, but I did want to call out a few points in case anyone was wondering why I made this my first play of the season when it hit the board weeks ago.

I am hearing a lot of talk about Charlotte having the prayers answered so to speak when the younger brother of Carolina Panthers' TE Greg Olsen decided to transfer to the 49ers earlier this Spring, but truth be told, anyone Charlotte would have brought in would have been an upgrade over the trainwreck that was their QB situation last season.

I mean, man where do we start when it comes to that mess, as boy was it painful to watch, but being here in Charlotte, I got to see the 49ers every week on local tv, so while it was painful to watch, it was nonetheless entertaining if nothing else. Matt Johnson appeared to be the best option going into this season before they picked up Olsen, as he had 7 TDs and a 54% completion rate, both of which somehow led the team (and it wasn't even close), but yet he wasn't able to beat out Lee McNeil for the starting job even though McNeil had only 1 TD pass all season to go with his 10 INTs. In fact, McNeil was the only QB on the roster to play in all 12 games, while Johnson was only able to notch 1 start which is really saying something. Brooks Barden is the only other guy who really saw meaningful action under center and he completed less than 50% of his passes and looked lost more often than not so he never really had a chance going into this year. Now, before Olsen is crowned the 2nd coming, we have to keep things in context and remember that while he did start at Miami, he then went to Towson and then Riverside City College where he wasn't exactly setting the world on fire with his 56.3% completion rate over the course of his 5 starts and 9 total games played last season. So, while I agree he is an upgrade...again, who wouldn't be???

The QB situation isn't even one of the Top 3 reasons I expect Louisville to cover this one as the key for me is the battle in the trenches as I love the matchup of the Louisville OL vs the Charlotte DL and of the Louisville DL vs the Charlotte OL. Charlotte really struggles to put pressure on the QB and that is a recipe for disaster against the high powered Cards offense, as I see the read option giving the 49ers fits all day as they just don't have the athletes to keep up and given their propensity for playing man coverage, I expect lots of deep balls to the speedy Cardinal WRs in this one as well. With 9 starters back on defense for Louisville, I just don't see Charlotte being able to consistently put together first downs, leading to 3 and outs, a tired defense, forced plays by the offense leading to turnovers...wash rinse repeat...you get the idea...

I will say that I like the 49ers' RB Phillips as he is kinda like a Joe Morris type back, but he is going to have a long day with a lot of horizontal movement trying to make his own holes, but he is the type of back that could break a few long runs, so I wouldn't be surprised if he gets a few Thursday night.

When all is said and done, this is the type of game where style points and perception make a difference and as much as people like to say that coaches and players just want to get the W, I am confident that Louisville will be looking to put on a show for the opening night crowd under the lights and I wouldn't be surprised if they top the 73 that the Blue Raiders laid on Charlotte last season. My prediction is something along the lines of a 59-10 type of game.

UNC Speculating on Georgia Schemes
Greg Barnes
GREG BARNES
2:03 PM

Guesswork has come into play as No. 22 UNC preps for No. 18 Georgia without specific scheme details.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The first thing Larry Fedora and his coaching staff scouts when preparing for an opponent is personnel. In Georgia’s case, the roster is deep, experienced and talented. Each of the Bulldogs’ past five recruiting classes have ranked top-15 nationally, three of which were top-10 quality.

“They’ve got players,” Fedora said on Monday. “There’s going to be a tailback back there that can go. There’s going to be an offensive line that can go. There’s going to be a quarterback, whoever it is, he can go. Same thing on defense. They’ve got players.”

In a typical game week, UNC’s coaching staff pairs its opponents’ personnel with the scheme to isolate preferred matchups and cover up potential weaknesses that could otherwise be exploited. However, this isn’t a typical game week due to a brand new coaching staff in Athens.

First-year Georgia head coach Kirby Smart directed Alabama’s defense to a top-5 national ranking in total defense in seven of the past eight years. Defensive coordinator Mel Tucker spent seven years as a NFL defensive coordinator before joining Smart in Tuscaloosa for a brief stint in 2015. Offensive coordinator Jim Chaney has a resume of achieving solid results with different personnel groups at previous stops such as Pittsburgh, Arkansas, Tennessee and Purdue.

Taking that breadth of knowledge and condensing it for a season opener has been quite the task for the Tar Heels.

“The toughest thing in this game is not trying to figure out the personnel,” Fedora said. “It’s trying to figure out schemes. That is, by far, the most difficult thing that we’re dealing with…

“If you’re not careful, you start chasing ghosts and you start creating more things for your guys to think about, and then the next thing you know, they’ve got a headful of stuff and they don’t move around very fast and they’re trying to process everything.”

Junior running back Elijah Hood acknowledged there’s been a bit of guesswork involved trying to pick and pull from the Georgia defensive staff’s experience at various levels. One benefit to Fedora’s offensive scheme is its inherent ability to adapt to the defensive looks its given. Stack the box and UNC will pass. Sit back and play a Cover-2, and the Tar Heels will attack with their trademark inside zone run play.

That approach has allowed UNC to excel even within its base offense, which removes complexity from the equation.

“Just keep it a little more simple,” Hood said. “Give us the concepts and the plays that we’re really comfortable with that we can make adjustments to on the fly, so if we get into the game and there’s something that we’re just not ready for at the moment, we can say, ‘well, this is our base scheme, where’s how we can switch it up,’ and guys will be able to go out there and execute.”

The other aspect for the offense is the understanding that surprises will likely come often.

“We’ve just got to be really prepared for anything,” junior quarterback Mitch Trubisky said. “I’ve been watching a lot of Alabama film, obviously, since he’s coming from Alabama, but Kirby Smart is a great coach. He’s been coaching for a long time and he’s probably going to have a lot of tricks up his sleeve, a lot of stuff that he hasn’t shown on film.”

Defensively, the Tar Heels have added various personnel packages to complement the base schemes Gene Chizik relied on heavily last fall, with an emphasis on limiting damage in run defense. Even so, the strategy will be to play fast and light, not thinking and thudding.

“They can come out there and do some things that they’ve never done before, which they’re very capable of,” senior cornerback Des Lawrence said. “That’s what many offenses do week-to-week in the first 15-20 plays. You’re going to get something new that they haven’t put on film, so there’s always an adjustment. That’s why I think the play calls are going to be so small - for the defense, at least – so the coaches know that we know what we’re doing and we can run around and make plays.”

In a top-25 matchup of this magnitude, players will have to make plays, regardless of the schemes.

That’s the best way to say it: less is more,” Fedora said. “So the fewer things we do in this game, the better chance we’ve got, I believe.”

Looks like a number of underclassmen will see playing time on the OL/DL and also in the Secondary this year in Chapel Hill.

UNC's head coach anticipates more than a dozen true freshmen to play this weekend.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – No. 22 North Carolina will lean heavily on its true freshman class beginning as early as Saturday against No. 18 Georgia in Atlanta.

Larry Fedora broke form on Monday and gifted the media with a relevant tidbit when asked about the likelihood of the five true freshmen defensive backs listed on the depth chart playing in the season opener.

“I anticipate quite a few more freshmen that are going to play in the game,” the fifth-year UNC head coach said. “It could be up to 13. It could be more than half of the class that participates in the game.”

UNC’s 2016 recruiting class, which ranked 24th nationally, was loaded with quality signees despite lacking elite prospects. The only four-star recruits in the class, according to Scout.com, were tight end Garrett Walston and offensive lineman Jay-Jay McCargo. Offensive coordinator/OL coach Chris Kapilovic has said he intends to redshirt his freshmen linemen.

Fedora told reporters the reason behind possibly playing so many true freshmen in the opener is two-fold: class quality and current team needs.

“I think this class is pretty special,” Fedora said. “They’ve shown that in camp all the way through and in the way they’ve prepared themselves. I think there’s some very talented young guys in that class. I think they’re prepared to help. And then in some instances, we’ve got some holes that we need filled and they’ve got to be ready to go.”

The freshmen defensive backs on the depth chart are cornerback Patrice Rene, nickel back K.J. Sails and safeties Myles Dorn, D.J. Ford and Myles Wolfolk. All five earned praise throughout training camp for making splash plays.

Senior cornerback Des Lawrence is confident in their abilities to contribute early.
“I think that they’re going to have some nerves because it’s a new level for them,” Lawrence said. “It’s a different environment. It’s going to be a loud and crazy environment in the Georgia Dome. I’m expecting some mistakes, and that’s with everyone, but I think they’re going to show up.”

Ends Tomon Fox and Allen Cater, as well as middle linebacker Jonathan Smith, are other rookies listed on the defensive depth chart for Saturday, while freshman Australian punter Tom Sheldon has been battling with senior Joey Mangili for the job throughout training camp.
There’s only been one true freshman to stand out on the offensive side of the ball: wide receiver Toe Groves.

“Toe’s been making a lot of plays,” junior quarterback Mitch Trubisky said. “… He’s just a shifty slot receiver. He runs really good routes. He shows flashes of [Ryan] Switzer and [Austin] Proehl. He can run really good routes and he’s also a natural with the ball in his hands.”
The remainder of the true freshmen that Fedora referenced may see playing time on special teams. For example, linebacker Dominique Ross has been working with the ones on the kickoff cover and punt return teams.

Almost have the card locked and loaded for week 1, but still mulling over a few dogs that I am waiting/hoping to see if the line will move in my favor over the next couple of days...

Tulane +17 - Can't see Wake putting up more than 31 tops, so 18+ would be nice, as Tulane should churn and burn if they can get any kind of running game going in this one
ULL +20 - Haven't seen much talk on this one, but think ULL could back into a cover in this one especially if I can get it at 21+
Wyoming +10 - Late start time and the elevation has me intrigued, especially if Wyoming can run the ball and I can get 11+
Texas State +21 - I see them going all in with regard to the new system, so either they will be in it at the end or get killed by 5 TDs haha...21+ at home is tempting though

Wake vs Tulane QB Notes as of this afternoon...

Junior John Wolford has been named the starter at Wake Forest, but Clawson has said that sophomore Kendall Hinton will also play. Meanwhile, at Tulane, redshirt sophomore Glen Cuiellette will start Thursday night but Fritz is saying that freshmen Darius Bradwell and Johnathan Brantley are still in the picture.

Fritz said that one of the two freshmen will play against the Deacons. Cuiellette took one snap last season, dropping to his knee in the blowout victory over Maine.

“All three of the guys battling for that starting job have got the ability to throw it and run it, which you’ve got to do in this offense,’’ Fritz said. “Glen was just a little more consistent than the other two guys. He did a good job of grasping the offense a little bit quicker. The other two guys are incoming freshmen, and even though Glenn hasn’t played at all — he’s had one snap under his belt here at Tulane — he just has a lot of poise about him.

“That’s the main reason he’s going to be our starter Thursday evening. The other two guys will play at some point in time this season. I’m probably going to play only one of them in the game. It will probably be in more package-type situations. But I was pleased with all three, their development in preseason camp.’’

Hmmm...not sure I want to take a chance on a team that has 3 QBs who have yet to throw a pass in their college career. If Tulane can't get the running game going, this one could be ugly to watch, although I expect it to be ugly to watch anyway.

The Ohio QB situation is a big reason I am still considering Texas State as leaning on the run to ease Windham into things could give Texas State a better chance to stay within 4 scores, and if Texas State can run the ball with any kind of success, this one could easily stay within the number...

Preseason practices were difficult enough for Ohio with a wave of injuries that swept up star receiver Sebastian Smith, tailback A.J. Ouellette and three offensive linemen.

The real punch came when fifth-year senior quarterback J.D. Sprague told coaches that he was leaving the team 17 days before the opener against Texas State because surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome during the offseason hadn’t cleared up throwing problems.

The starter will be another fifth-year senior, but Greg Windham has not started a college game. His experience consists of 53 passing attempts for 380 yards, one touchdown and four interceptions.

The backup will be redshirt freshman Quinton Maxwell. Freshman walk-on Deeb Haber of Olentangy also is on the roster.

Quarterbacks coach and co-offensive coordinator Scott Isphording said Windham won the job.

“He separated himself. He showed that he’s the guy,’’ Isphording said.

The Bobcats were picked to finish second behind Bowling Green in the Mid-American Conference East before Sprague left based on seven starters returning on offense and seven on defense.

There are impact players in linebacker Quentin Poling, defensive linemen Kurt Laseak and Tarell Basham, Ouellette and Smith.

Coach Frank Solich has concerns about breaking in a new placekicker and punter, and depth beyond the starters, but he likes his 12th Ohio team.

“I’m excited about the season,’’ he said. “I really like this group. They have been special for what they’ve done in the offseason. I think we’ll be hitting on all cylinders. This group has a lot of enthusiasm and want-to. I’m pulling for these guys.’’

Solich landed the Bobcats in a bowl game in six of the previous seven seasons, with victories over Utah State in 2011 and Louisiana-Monroe in ’12. What has eluded him is winning the team’s first MAC championship since 1968.

Windham will have plenty of targets in Smith, Brendan Cope and Jordan Reid at receiver and tight end Troy Mangen.

When the coaching staff finally decided on Ouellette to be the feature back down the stretch last season, he responded with games of 74, 121 and 140 yards. It wasn’t an accident that Ohio won all three games. He totaled 692 yards.

“There might be a better running back in our league, but someone is going to have to show him to me,’’ co-offensive coordinator Tim Albin said. “A.J. has had two really, really special seasons. He has dropped two-tenths of a second in his 40-yard dash time.’’

Ouellette also is captain.

Poling is that same type of heavy hitter on defense. He had 69 tackles, 10½ tackles for losses, four sacks and four interceptions last season.

The concern is a run defense that allowed an average of 5.0 yards per carry and 21 touchdowns in 2015.

“We’ve started out the year by challenging guys to stop the run,’’ defensive coordinator Jimmy Burrow said. “We didn’t do that last year. We’ve emphasized attacking and reacting and being more aggressive. We want to simplify things so they can play faster.’’

ULL Notes

The 11am central start time (10am Idaho time) of this game intrigues me along with the fact that ULL does have a couple playmakers who could create some big plays against the Boise defense. Would really like 21.5 here to make it a 4 score home dog.

Tuesday, August 30, 2016.

Last week’s news out of Louisiana-Lafayette was the naming of former LSU Tiger Anthony Jennings as starting quarterback. We’ll know in four days how significant that is. Because Jennings will not be the focus of the Ragin’ Cajuns offense.

That role belongs to running back Elijah McGuire, who has been generating buzz for the 2017 NFL Draft for some time. McGuire has 3,185 career rushing yards going into his senior season, including back-to-back 1,000-yard campaigns.

ULL intends to find out quickly whether the rebuilt Boise State defensive line has what it takes Saturday morning. And if the Broncos lose track of McGuire, he’ll burn them through the air. He has 100 career receptions for 1,145 yards. The Cajuns will line him up all over the place.

Always great to see you drop in the thread bull. I am also on Houston ATS and still playing the waiting game on USM as I would like to get 7.5 120 there. Also waiting on Wyoming and FIU so we are pretty much on the same page with regard to the dogs. WMU line got away from me as I should have taken it when it was 7 but now that it is 5, no value for me there. Appreciate the words on the Charleston play, always nice to start the season on the right foot. Best of luck this year!

Houston seemed like a decent option in the offseason but half their offense is dinged up. Think most play but they will be far from 100%. Ward is awesome (was my avatar for awhile) but he can't beat OU on his own.

Definitely hear you but once the line crossed 11, it became a variance play for me as I like my chances with Houston keeping it within 2 TDs basically. Should be a fun one to watch for sure.

KState line continues to drop as it is now down to 14 115...if it keeps falling, might be tempted to take Stanford at 12.5 or less...

Added Idaho -7 110 at BOL

Missed out onCincy -24 as that line shot up to -32 before I could even get my play in..man that was fast

Adding a free play on the heels to win straight up +135 at BOL honestly just for an action play since we are headed down to Atlanta first thing tomorrow morning.

Best of luck this weekend guys!

CB, always appreciate your thoughts and great to see you posting again, sir. Love Charlotte and had some great years down there working at WFNZ...ah, to be young again.

Best of luck to you this season, brother. :cheers3:

Week 1 Recap...

I don't think I have ever experienced so many highs and lows while attending a game before in my entire life, as that game had so many momentum swings, but in the end, we made way too many mistakes and while the defense played their hearts out for the most part, we just couldn't seal the deal when it counted. Not gonna complain about the officiating, as we had opportunities to win the game but just couldn't finish it off. Hats off to Georgia as they were the better team last night.

Crazy week 1 in terms of plays, as my non-free plays were about as effective as our defense was at stopping the Georgia running game in the 4th quarter. I actually just did all the math and I finished up with a 4-6 record on those at BOL, and lost -4.60 units. The only thing that saved me was the fact that I hit 3 ML Dogs (SMiss, Wyoming and Houston) with the free plays, which garnered me +4.62 units, leaving me up +0.02 units overall at BOL, but over at 5D, I ended up down overall, as my FCS plays couldn't offset my horrible Razorback pick, due to the limits on the FCS ones. So, over at 5D, even though I was 3-1 overall for the first week, I still lost -0.39 units.

Total Week 1 Results
7-7 overall, lost -0.37 units

Could have and probably should have been a lot worse, so I will just give thanks that I survived one of the craziest week 1's in recent memory and leave it at that.

Congrats to all those who made cash this first week as the landmines were spread far and wide, so you definitely have my respect if you were able to navigate around them to clear some profit, nice work!
