Black Monday- Kubiak Raiders

Big one here.

Roman out in LA as OC.

Immediate improvement.

Jim has always loved Roman but times have passed him.
Roman is and always has been horrendous. Its time for Jim to modernize his offense or his ceiling will stay playoffs with no Super Bowls.

If I was freeman I wouldn’t take that call. They have no freaking path to a qb
Who did Seattle and who did they bring in? Some of these QB's are in terrible situations and once they get with a competent coaching staff people realize that they are better then previously thought.

Pitt definitely needs to find one in FA though.

You think there someone like darnold lurking around this offseason? I can’t think of anyone off top my head, def don’t think Mac jones is that guy. I tell ya who I wouldn’t be scared to take a shot at, Malik Willis but I dunno his contract situation.

Think he oretty secure at nd. It would take an incredible situation I think and just don’t see Steelers being that.
No dealing with the transfer portal instantly makes any professional job more enjoyable in my eyes and I'm guessing a lot of coaches as well. Security with Pittsburgh is a virtual guarantee without all the bullshit other than random threads on CTG. Not so in college anywhere.

I really don’t think it all that awful for the guys at schools with money. They have way more control over their roster than they would at the nfl, and Irish hardly lose anyone in the portal far as I know.

I mean Tomlin was there for 19 years. Unless he's Saban (he's not) he won't have that luxury and if he actually is that good there's no chance he wouldn't want to do it at the pro level like Saban tried. Steelers is the one job that will not come open again in his career that offers security. No one will offer that at the top level of college football again.

He still super young, I think he happy where he at for now and don’t think he leaving anytime soon. I’m sure at some point he might wanna try his hand at the nfl but I’d be shocked if he leaves nd yet, he just restructured not long ago, has a contract thru ‘31 at over 7 mil a year. I been wrong before tho

I think Tomlin is overrated as can be and Pittsburgh is now lucky to get away from both him and the hockey version of him with Mike Sullivan.

He fucking sucked and costed the 9ers multiple SBs. But that was also on Harbaugh. Two offensive guys who finished bottom last in the red zone with more talent on defense than the 85 Bears.

Yeah nobody leaving ND to go coach the Steelers. Fuck that

I'm starting to come around on your thoughts that Harbaugh is indeed very overrated.

Tomlin has a very very high floor. But impossible to rebuild a contender with him and all the resources going to defense. He just won’t give you a legit path to a franchise QB.

he for sure needs to go somewhere that already has a qb. I agree Steelers were never gonna get out this 10 win bounced in 1st round cycle but it could be (or get) much worse!

Again, holding on to old Ben like he was Prime Ben for at least 2 years longer than necessary set this franchise back a decade and I'm comfortable believing that was not Tomlin's decision.

Lol they'd leave ND to coach in the SEC

If you think any college job is better than the Steelers job I retract that other post about your most retarded comment

I didn't even realize he's only getting $7mil a year at ND. That's laughable now.

Spot. Fucking. On!
I was so ready for him to hang it up 2 years before he did.

None off of the top of my head but I don't know every teams qb depth chart.

He actually just restructured I think to get to 7.4 for next season, I dunno what the ensuing seasons after that look like. He is kinda getting screwed considering Kiffen just got like 13 mil a year! Lol. That said he has stated both the last 2 seasons he wasn’t interested in going to the nfl at this time and has turned down interviews I believe.

I'd be curious to see Geno at the right place.

We obviously see the difference between playing behind a decent OL and great coach in SEA compared to playing behind an incompetent line in LAS

He might still be good, it's unfair to grade him on this season imo. Tough to get rid of the David Carr syndrome once you have it but Darnold has at least seemed to find a way.

He's not.

He's a helluva coach.

Two things that have hurt him early in CFB career and in pro career is sticking with assistants that he trusts.

Once he decided to branch out in college, he hired two brilliant defensive minds. One is the #1 seed in the NFC and the other is one of the top 5 DCs in the NFL that will be a top coaching candidate very, very soon.

Loyalty is both a good and bad thing in life.

I expect he'll branch out and find a very good OC here.

Bottom line is, the OL injuries killed this team.

They are already well ahead of schedule of where they should be. Look back what he took over. The situation wasn't pretty at all. He had a top 10-12 QB and that was about it (and Derwin).

Last year should have been 6-8 wins.

This year was a playoff sniff.

Year 3 would be a playoff spot.

Year 4 is cooking...

So, the next two years should tell us the story here. Overall, a damn good job for what he walked into.

OL is the most key spot in the NFL.

Darnold is thriving due to a good one and a helluva D.

We saw him start to fade as the Minnesota OL faded (add injuries) at the end of last season.

Josh Allen would have looked like shit behind the Vegas line!

Geno is serviceable as a QB. He needs the other pieces though.

We think darnold can have turnover issues! Honestly don’t think it matters where Geno plays, he can def put up numbers but he gonna throw it to the wrong team a lot!! Bridge guy sure but he ain’t a dude ya gonna win with I don’t think.

Yeah I was gonna say Burrow would look like shit or have his career ended behind that line but Josh is right there too

I'm 65/35 not committed to that line of thinking but certainly possible. I just could put zero weight on anything this season because he was playing behind an OL that most of the top 20 NCAA teams would laugh at

Yea I don’t hold this season against him but he wasn’t exactly secure w the ball in Seattle.

Cinci OL looks like Cowboys dynasty OL compared to Vegas though

Raiders line is horrible but Pete’s son was the OL coach and they had a bunch of injuries. A good coach should be able to fix that unit pretty quickly. And they have 100 million in cap.

Barely off topic but kinda relevant too

Anyone watching the Manning cast last night saw the insanely hilarious gift Eli sent to Peyton. Framed collage with the football cards of all of the players that picked him off his rookie season and the plates underneath each player with the dates of the picks inscribed. A couple had multiples and were inscribed as such (TBuck was one) and a photo of Peyton in the middle with the inscribed plate that said something like "Record Holder" then "Most Interceptions in a Season" underneath. 28 picks his rookie season! That shit was hilarious! He'd be in the CFL next year if this happened today.
