WHo is better between these 2 players as a POINT GUARD?

I personally think its very close, I think Paul is overall better, but if Ron Williams get hot he can beat a team like the lakers by himself as he can get to the line and start scoring more than Paul.

T minus three hrs till brewer throws D Rose into the convo stating comparable rookie stats and all star skills competition results.

CP3 is more of a leader than D.Will.. a smarter point guard than Derons street ball mentality..Chris Paul has carried this entire Hornets team on his back.. Deron is good cause he has a better supporting cast around him

the question is right now. not who had the better rookie year or if rose will follow along the progress paul made in the league because they put up near identical rookie numbers. :36_11_6:

It's not fair putting that in here apolous because there is no debate that DWill owns Paul h2h. :) I think the bottom line is that both teams have the PG that helps their team the most. If you were to ask the Jazz GM who he'd rather have off the record he'd say DWill and the same would be true in NOLA. If I was starting a new team I think I'd take CP3 myself. As a Jazz fan I wouldn't trade Derron for anybody. The gap isn't nearly as wide as some make it out to be. Never heard any worthwhile reason as to why people think Paul is so much better other than his Sportscenter highlights. Look at DWill's stats in the playoffs last year. He carried that team.

in a related question, whos a better shooting guard...kobe bryant or willie green?

Yeah seriously.

I honestly think this question is akin to asking who's better, LeBron or Carmelo?

The difference appears to be about that wide.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/teams/schedule?team=uth&year=2008

Look at the box scores in the playoffs. You really think Kevin O'Conner is going to choose anybody over DWill?

Only one problem with that argument...

Paul played even better.

Last year's playoffs:
Deron 21.6 PPG 10.0 APG 2.6 REBS .6 STLS
Paul 24.1 PPG 11.3 APG 4.9 REBS 2.3 STLS

As good as Deron was, Paul was better. And that's what he's gonna have to deal with for his whole career. No matter what he does, Paul will always be a little bit better.

offensively i'll take deron

defensively i'll take paul

overall its paul but way closer than a lot of people care to admit. if deron played in a system where he got to dribble around for 90% of his teams possession everytime down the court, the stats he'd put up would be a joke.

and in case anyone didn't realize, deron just finished up a streak of games in which his performance (30 points with + 50 % shooting from the field) had been matched by just 2 guards in the past 30 years: Jordan and Maravich. the guy is a superstar.

You haven't been watching too many nba games lately. This was the hornets b2b against the fakers in an OT prior night.

no doubts, cp. he's quicker, better ball handler...the hornets game is a little slow for paul. they need to surround him w/ the right players.

I wouldnt give Pauls points for his situation.
Hell he would be better if he had decent players surrounding him.
The thing that is missed is he can take over a game with his shot when he wants to.
He just normally defers and sets his teammates up in cant miss situations.

I'm going with Deron for sure. CP3 is way overrated.
1. i don't know why someone said deron is a street player? that guy is str8 fundamentals, utah jazz style. cp3 is the #1 street ball player in the nba. it looks like he runs an and1 team at times.
2. deron is better at defense, paul is good for steals and that is about it. too small and weak.
3. deron is a 10x better shooter, free throw and 3 pointer especially. whenever deron shoots a 3, i bank on that fuckin shit.
4. one thing that i get pist at deron for is that he doesnt shoot nearly enough. he just passes and stands around letting others develop a play. dwill could easily put up 20-25 every single fuckin night.
5. as for the supporting cast, david west is a better player than paul imo. he's the one doing most of the scoring. deron is doing this shit w/o booze daddy.
6. bottom line: paul is flashy and a pretty boy so people fuckin love him, but deron is the best in the league.

hopefully they meet in the playoffs so dwilly can shit on paul again. i like paul too; i thought they would be a lot better than they have been this year.

This is a joke, right?

how about that period of time when every day the hornets played they were like 70% public fav. because vegas was giving them zero respect. books know they aint shit.

chris paul shoots a higher percentage from the field, from 3, and from the free throw line. and you actually think david west is a better player than paul because he does all the scoring but yet he averages fewer points per game?

On early Sunday morning, December 11, 2005, Williams and Jazz teammate Robert Whaley were involved in a brawl with Denver Nuggets fans at a bar in the resort town of Park City, Utah. The fight began inside a bar when some Nuggets fans who recognised the two players and approached them and said they did not like the Jazz.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deron_Williams#cite_note-falsenames-30 The fight, which involved eight to 10 people, then spilled outside.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deron_Williams#cite_note-falsenames-30 Both players provided false names to police officers investigating the incident, with Williams giving his as "Torry Ellis".

- I wonder if the cop was like "dude, I know your deron williams..."http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deron_Williams#cite_note-falsenames-30

what the hell kind of a question is this?

and I already know H2H d.will owns cp3 so you dont have to remind me JP and co

dwill shoots jumpers and cp shoots layups.

LMAO. Get a clue.

The Jazz without Williams could still win 20 games

Hornets would be lucky to win 10

I bet Paul could out shoot Deron from ANYWHERE on the court

Paul knows he is a PG and Deron does to you just dont know what a PG is evidently. Paul could score 30 a game if he wanted to. Take that.

And to top it off Paul is the best all around athlete/person in sports PERIOD. Class act guy that only nimwits can find fault with.

cp3s jump shot wasnt consistant enough a couple years ago but hes been developing a pretty damn good mid range game.

i watch them all the time too. but if cp3 can get the bucket easier than d will then why would he shoot jumpers? he still shoots a higher percentage from the field. maybe d will takes a lot of bad shots sometimes where as paul doesn't. he also turns the ball over less. if your going to try and make up some bullshit to say dwill is better that's fine.

ive watched games with paul scoring like 2 pts and 5 assists at half then finish with 28 and 16 or some ridiculuous numbers. plus the guy knows how to board for a 6 footer.

he wastes entirely too much time setting up his teammates or trying to get them into the flow of the game and goes off in the 2nd half

if we are comparing strength and size then of course most players are going to be better in a physical game than cp3 is. cp3 has incredible vision and court presence and thats what i want in my point

well Jimbo at least you gave us Obama.

I will take credit for CP3 and you can take credit for Obama.

Hell I will through in Blageovich too. Plus you have the best kite flying conditions.

You are the man.

reNew dont bother anyone with half a brain knows the truth here.

These fuggers will be hating on Paul all the way to the Hall.
He wont even have any true competition at PG until he hits 35.

it's all good. cp3 is prolly the better player and he is surely a class act, i just like dwill because i think he's cool and he's from illinois. everyone was taking cp3 except brewer so in the same vein as PTI, i had to back my guy. i actually bet against utah today and i would prolly take NO. although the NO bet is more based on the fact that i think sac is a d league team now.

i was always a big nocioni fan, but im not pist at all with this deal. miller and salmons were easily the 2nd and 3rd best players on sac. miller is serviceable and actually not too dissimiliar to gooden: decent jumpers, rebounding, and defense. salmons is always a guy who i'm pretty impressed with when i watch him. that guy can score at will at times. i think his defense is pretty suspect, but maybe the bulls will just turn into a high paced team. our defense pretty much sucks already so we might as well go for the outscoring approach.

Both vare wonderful young PG's. I take CP3 in a heartbeat. One thing also, Utahs offense is designed for Williams to succeed(not taking anything away from him). Both are great, the two best in the game right now.

And if Williams wasnt such a fatass maybe hed have the speed to be able to get around defenders and get to the hoop too...

I have no idea what they do now but as rookies (05/06)...

I think Paul is better by a long shot, but Williams has definitely made progress since Illinois. I think Paul was more skilled and hyped out of college. I don't think many would have guessed Williams would be where he is today.
