*** 2025 Preseason Discussion ***

On full display today was the reason (most) Texas fans were so happy to move on to Manning this season. I being one of them.

Work with a Horns fanatic from Texas. He's been telling anyone who would listen that Ewers is a bum for 2 years now. Said before today's game Ewers will be lucky to be on the Fins roster for another week ...

I love the Horns at the shoe , do you ?

The face painters in Austin would tell you that Ewers was something he wasn't but I said more than once on this board that I never bought into any of it. Tough kid but holes all over his game and they only get magnified when the athletes are bigger, stronger and faster. Another performance like today and Ewers might be cut before preseason is done.

I love the under against Ohio. Uncertain on a side and it will probably remain so.

Yeah both defenses are likely the best units on the field ..

My buddy said Ewers only showed flashes bc he was surrounded by superior talent all over that Horns roster. Once he actually had to make big throws or quick decisions he sucked arse ...

Manning should be a massive upgrade ( obviously)

I think a live bet on Raiders could be worth monitoring.

The 9ers 1s and 2s, mainly 2s, shut down Denver 9-0 into the 2nd quarter. Their 3s and 4s lost 0-30 over the next 40 mins. They have really no way to move the ball or stop anyone with these guys who will be packing groceries in a couple of weeks.

Nice

McKee was never playing today. Chat GBT sucks for information. Have to do my own still. Browns +4.5 was a gift and the news was out a day ago. Fuck me

It's crazy how times have changed regarding preseason

When there used to be 4 games, they'd generally ramp up to week 3 where starters and real players played significant minutes

Now with all these joint practices it's more like we get the first week with some quality (thus all the overs last weekend) then it slowly will melt down to drivel the next couple weekends. Completely flipped.

On Follow the Money this afternoon, a small reference was made Kelce/Swift today.
Mitch brought up a friend that bets unders in wr total yds. He said to hammer Kelce under cuz if she cuts off 3weeks in, he's gonna tank.

<paraphrased>

It's in hour two if you listen on pod or watch the replay.
Cracked me up.
Great angle.

NFL bettors are expected to wager approximately $30 billion on the league (NFL) this season with legal sportsbooks in the United States, according to an estimate released Thursday by the American Gaming Association.

The $30 billion figure is approximately an 8.5% increase from a revised estimate of $27.5 billion last year and is based on the national growth of wagering in 2025 and statistics from states that report football-specific betting data, according to the AGA, which represents the gaming industry in the U.S. The amount includes money bet on futures wagers, such as the odds to win the Super Bowl, and individual games from the preseason through Super Bowl LX, but only at traditional sportsbooks in the U.S.

Purdum always has interesting stuff:

Well shit. The minute I step onto the course for the first time in two weeks this happens. Short term this is a big hit to the Cowboys, although I honestly had no idea before this of whether they would be good this year or not. Schematically they lose their best rusher and will need to manufacture pressure through blitz schemes. They do have three CBs they like in Diggs, Bland and Revel. If Revel can get on the field in October they may have a better D than expected with man coverage and blitzing. Kenny Clark is a nice addition that is much needed since Mazi Smith is turning into a disappointment.

The two first round picks will probably be in the bottom third of the round but I have my doubts that this will pay off in a Lombardi for the Pack. I don't think Love is championship material and if he gets hurt they have a bottom third backup in Willis.

The Cowboys get a major cap boost with this move. There is no dead money from the last year of the Parsons contract and Kenny Clark is signed for $2.3 million this year with another two years on his contract that would pay $20 million each year but come with no cap risk.

With the exception of Deion, Jerruh has always valued paying offensive stars over defensive, so while the suddenness is a surprise the parting is not. The contract the Pack agreed to is frankly outrageous. I do wish Jerruh could've found an AFC partner to deal with, but this kind of trade is right up the Packers alley.

This team will still be exciting on offense with Dak slinging it to Lamb and Perkins. Fantasy players will be thrilled. So I guess there's that. I'm hoping they can still compete for a wild card spot but with 12 games against the Eagles, Skins, AFC West and NFC North they're going to be a dog a lot of the time.

I wasn’t necessarily a believer in Jordan Love, but I don’t know man. You have to think they make a push this year. I’m buying now.

Paying those positions that kinda money….I might be with you there. Parsons is obviously a great player, but

Just a reminder that the Pack acquired Reggie White before the 1993 season and didn't win the Super Bowl until the 1996 season. And that includes Favre winning MVP in the 1995 season. This year's Pack are still 14-1 and the fifth or sixth choice to win it all. Ironically, they are the same odds as the Luka Lakers to win the NBA title.

Charles Robinson on Yahoo is touting Charles Woodson as a marquee acquisition for the Pack that led to a Super Bowl. Woodson was signed from the Raiders in 2006....the Pack went 8-8 that year. They went 13-3 the next year and famously lost to the Giants in the conference championship when Favre through a killer pick. They switched to Rodgers the next year and went 6-10. Then Woodson was DPOY for the Pack in 2009 and they lost famously to Arizona 51-45 in the wildcard round. They finally won the Bowl in Woodson's fifth year with the team. Between 2006 and 2010 they had turned over 12 players in their starting lineup and switched from a 4-3 to a 3-4.

What's the point? The splash move doesn't always work out according to script, no matter how reporters try to spin it. Ask the Bears how the trade for Khalil Mack worked out. They went 12-4 after acquiring him in Matt Nagy's first season, but lost 16-15 to Philly in the wildcard round. They haven't had a winning record since. The Raiders first 1st rounder was at spot 24 and they selected Josh Jacobs, ironically now with Pack. The second 1st rounder was pick 19(!) and the Raiders blew it on Ohio St CB Damon Arnette, who played only 13 games in two seasons. So you just never know how things will turn out.

Doesn't help that they're in what I think will be the best division in the NFL barring Cleveland showing up and letting the AFC North take that crown (again)
