*****2017 Recruiting Thread*****

Moses sticks. Sucks he went to IMG, but it was mostly because U High doesn't allow to graduate early....plus he is the numero uno, so he wanted to live it up.

I think he was like, fuck this. I wanna be wined and dined, but in the end LSU I think. He will start as a true fresh at Mike, since we won't have one

The 247 rankings don't reflect it yet, but the state of Alabama is loaded next year. Probably best crop since 2008. Might be a little light on star power, but really deep class with a lot of major college level ability

texas got raided this year by the sec west, but depending on how texas does in this upcoming season it'll either get worse or not as bad.

LA is pretty dead next year for recruits, unusually. Texas is gonna get raided......

Not a great year in MS either. I expect Ole Miss' class be defense oriented given the misses on NSD. The battle for Akers will probably be the most interesting on the offensive side of the ball.

Rashan Gary, the No. 1-ranked recruit in the ESPN 300 from start to finish last year, inked with Michigan on national signing day last week. Now, there’s a new top-ranked player that coaches, fans and media will start to focus their attention on, Dylan Moses.
The 6-foot-2, 225-pound prospect made headlines when he originally committed to LSU as an eighth grader, but with the grueling recruiting process heating up, the Louisiana native opened things back up in early August.

"Watching all the kids this past year going through the recruiting process and actually talking with them about things like what to do and what not to do and it’s actually really preparing me for what’s happening starting right now,” he said. "I feel like I’m ready for this and I’m just going to take it day-by-day and see what happens.”
Moses, a 2017 Under Armour All-American, said he was able to see what Gary went through from afar and hopes to have a similar recruitment process as the former five-star defensive end.
"I paid attention to Rashan Gary’s recruitment and just saw that he was more low-key than anything,” Moses said. "He didn’t say much, he stayed more to himself and was focused. He seemed like he is a hard worker and was well spoken. Just watching him go through the process, he was a great example as far as how to act if you are the top player in the country."
Gary kept his options open throughout the process, but Moses has already started to pay close attention to six schools.

They have very good discipline over there so they get their kids doing what they have to do. I like their strength program, coach [Scott] Cochran, coach [Nick] Saban. It’s just a really great coaching staff over there and I just really feel comfortable there.”
With spring football just around the corner, the talented prospect who has over 30 scholarship offers, plans to take at least three unofficial visits.
“I’ll probably go to Florida, Florida State and probably come back home and go to LSU’s spring practice and see how they are doing,” Moses said.
The Baton Rouge, Louisiana, native recently transferred to IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. Moses said one of the reasons he moved was so that he would be able to enroll early at whichever college he attends.
“It also takes some pressure off of me,” Moses said. “When I was in Baton Rouge, everyone was expecting me to go to LSU. Now that I’m out of the state of Louisiana, people are like more skeptical about where I am going to go now.”
The move to IMG could open a door to another top program, Michigan, which recently made headlines for announcing it would hold a portion of its spring practices at IMG Academy over the spring.
"That would be cool,” he said. "I’ve never really seen Michigan up close like that before and I’ve never visited the school either. It’s just a great opportunity and you know, hopefully I can get an offer from them, because I don’t have one yet.”
Moses is planning to make his decision at the Under Armour All-America Game next January and while the nation’s No. 1 junior is already familiar with the recruiting process, he has never seen the amount of attention he will receive over the next year.

Recruiting never stops for college coaches, or recruiting junkies for that matter, so the page has already been turned to the 2017 class.
It is time to take a glance into Louisiana and see where LSU stands, and more importantly, what could happen in the coming weeks and months.
*** The general feeling amongst national analysts is that 2017 will be a down year in Louisiana. I do not think the state measures up to the 2014 or 2016 classes, but the deeper I go into this class, the better I feel about it.
No question, at least in my mind, the state is not as top heavy as it has been, especially since Dylan Moses officially counts as a Florida prospect in state rankings since he transferred to IMG.
However, the state is looking deeper and deeper with kids who will land Power 5 offers, and many have already begun reeling them in.
*** LSU has offered 13 prospects from the Bayou State that we have already reported on and here’s a list for reference .
For comparison’s sake, when all was said and done, we reported 30 in-state offers from the Tigers for the 2016 class, 21 in 2015, 22 in 2014, and 20 in both the 2013 and 2012 classes.
This time next year, I have a feeling the number for the 2017 class will be somewhere right around that low 20’s mark.
*** While the No. 1 prospect in the country currently resides in Florida, Dylan Moses will always be considered a Louisiana boy in pieces like this.
Some are worried that having Moses at IMG will make it tougher on LSU to recruit him, and that will be true in many aspects because he can’t just pop up and visit with the coaches like he did on a weekday many, many times before. That could work both ways, though, because it could also make him see that home is where the heart is after being away for a year.
Corey Raymond, who is third cousins with Moses’ father, has taken the lead role in Dylan’s recruitment, and that would have even happened had he stayed in Louisiana due to those ties. Raymond has been on Moses since he made it to IMG, and he may make it in for Boys from the Boot. As for new defensive coordinator Dave Aranda, I am told that he will be meeting with the Moses camp soon now that the focus is solely on 2017.
*** At the time we published this on Friday morning, LSU was sitting with one commitment from the nation’s No. 2 defensive tackle, Tyler Shelvin. LSU received what it deemed some excellent news when the five-star opted to stay in Louisiana and attend Notre Dame of Crowley as opposed to potentially transferring to IMG. Ed Orgeron put in a lot of work to keep him in Louisiana, and will have to put in just as much to keep him here for college. Orgeron knows schools from all over will be trying to poach him away from the Tigers when his recruitment begins to pick up.
*** I keep hearing good things on LSU and Lowell Narcisse, and I would not be surprised in the least if the former Auburn commitment jumped on board much sooner than later, provided there is no major staff shakeup, specifically dealing with the rumors of Cam Cameron potentially heading to the NFL.
*** Devonta Smith will push Tyler Shelvin for the state’s top ranking as the process moves along, and it will be interesting to see how his recruitment moves forward.
Most feel that Alabama will be the team to beat for the one-time Georgia commitment based on his relationship with former Georgia Director of Player Personnel Sam Pettito, who is now at Alabama. Something to keep an eye on, though, is whether Smith will be impacted by Alabama parting ways with his teammate, Joshua Perry, right before signing day. Regardless, LSU will have some hurdles to overcome here.
*** The latest offers to go out on the Louisiana landscape was to Lutcher teammates, Al’dontre Davis and Jontre Kirklin. Ole Miss is a school that Davis really likes, and he also speaks highly of Auburn. I expect LSU to become more of a factor, especially if Lowell Narcisse gets on board and gets in his ear.
As for Kirklin, he is someone the staff likes a lot as an athlete with how electric he is with the ball in his hands. He could also be a guy who could play some cornerback too.
*** A couple of other guys the staff will have to put a lot of work in on are the Swilling brothers, Bruce Jordan-Swilling and Tre Swilling. Jordan-Swilling has always had an eye on leaving the state, and the two would like to play together in college. It will be interesting to see if LSU’s new running backs coach is able to make some movement there with Jordan-Swilling.
*** As for a few other in-state offers, I like where things stand with Todd Harris, Adrian Ealy, Christopher Allen and Clyde Edwards-Helaire. If either of the four jumped on board at Boys from the Boot, it would not come as a surprise at all.
*** There are a number of guys who have not yet been offered, but either have already picked up some nice Power 5 offers or will likely in the future.
Some of those guys who are on LSU’s radar and could be potential offers include defensive backs Brad Stewart, Amik Robertson, Cheyenne Labruzza, JaCorion Andrews, Corey Straughter, Terrell Bailey, Jamal Walters and Michael Lee; defensive ends Bryan Jones, Dennis Collins, Aaron Moffitt and Tre’ Square; linebackers Josh Clarke, Shahid Reece, Derrick Munson, Cameron Morgan, Zikerrion Baker, Rashaad Harding and Noah Fontenot; athletes Trey Coleman, Jakyle Holmes, Keldric Carper, Patrick Queen and Chris Cameron; tight end Jordan Becnel; wide receivers Travis Jordan, Brandon Rachal, Jeremy Singleton and Johnathan Jones; offensive linemen E’Darius Anderson and Ethan Harvey.
*** As you can see, the defensive back class is very deep. A few have already jumped out and made very strong early impressions on the staff in Brad Stewart, Cheyenne Labruzza and Amik Robertson.
Stewart is the most versatile of the three as he could play corner or safety. He’s already picked up some nice offers from Florida, Florida State, Miami, Texas A&M, South Carolina, Mississippi State and others.
LaBruzza is in that same mold as Stewart with offers from Ole Miss, Oklahoma State, Northwestern (Big 10) and Tennessee, amongst others. I think Stewart is a guy LSU will have to recruit pretty hard, but I could see Labruzza acting fairly quickly on an offer from the Tigers.
While Stewart and Labruzza are both at the 6-foot mark, Robertson is smaller around the 5-foot-9 clip. But, he’s a guy who could flourish covering the slot.
*** LSU needs a big linebacker haul in 2017, and Dave Arana and Bradley Dale Peveto have a nice pool to choose from.
I like Josh Clarke as a good fit in Aranda’s system as an outside backer. Florida, Arizona State, Georgia, Ole Miss, and Tennessee are amongst the early offers that he reports. Clarke looks up to his old teammate, Donte Jackson, so that is something that LSU has on its side.
Derrick Munson recently committed to Arkansas, and Rashaad Harding is one I really like on film with his explosiveness and ability to play multiple positions.
As far as guys who are more strictly inside backers, Cameron Morgan is that big body at 6-foot-1, 240 pounds, and he lights people up. The same goes for Noah Fontenot, who is right around the 6-foot mark but was a tackling machine as a junior at St. Thomas More.
*** Bryan Jones from Madison Prep is one guy who stands out early on amongst the defensive ends with his long, 6-foot-5, 240-pound frame. He will blow up on the recruiting front, and he is another one who is slated to be at Boys from the Boot next weekend.
We have been talking about Dennis Collins from West Monroe since he was a sophomore, and he is another one who will start pulling in offers once his junior film is out. The fact that he did not camp and workout for anyone after he got hurt at the Alabama camp early last June has slowed his process down. However, it will pick up.
And keep an eye on Tre’ Square from Catholic of Baton Rouge because he is a guy who has a nice presence off the edge, and could also grow and develop into a 5-tech type.
The same goes for Square’s teammate, Aaron Moffitt. Do not think the name Moffitt is the only reason he is mentioned, because he can play. Can he play at LSU’s level? That remains to be seen, but several schools have already stepped up and offered with Colorado State being the latest.

. *** Trey Coleman from West Monroe picked up an offer from Tennessee the day after signing day, and Oklahoma is on him pretty good too. Coleman could project at several positions from receiver to safety, and possibly even linebacker. Coleman may make it in for Boys from the Boot with Dennis Collins, but an unofficial visit to Oklahoma that weekend could also happen.
Jakyle Holmes impressed LSU at camp before his junior season, and he’s electric with the ball in his hands.
Patrick Queen of Livonia is another one who I label as an athlete because he has played so many different positions. At the end of the day, though, outside linebacker may be his best fit.
Keldric Carper is the highest rated of this group with offers from Georgia, Tennessee, Mississippi State, Oklahoma State and numerous others. However, there is a lot of work to do if LSU is going to become a factor in his recruitment with Mississippi State, Georgia and Stanford leading the way, in my opinion.
*** The tight end position is kind of lean looking right now, but Minden’s Jordan Becnel is athletic at 6-foot-3, 240 pounds. Steve Ensminger handles the Minden area for the Tigers, and a source up in that area tells me that Ensminger likes what he sees.
*** Louisiana is never short on receivers, and one I really like is Travis Jordan from John Ehret. He has nice size in the 6-foot-2, 190-pound range and makes a ton of plays.
Johnathan Jones from Evangel is another one in that same size-range, and Louisiana Tech will have a tough time holding on to his commitment.
Brandon Rachal from Natchitoches Central is the most intriguing of the bunch. He is the No. 1 combo guard in the country with 247Sports, and although most of the talk has centered around basketball for him, he put up huge numbers on the gridiron as a junior. That has him thinking about football as well, and I’m told it could be a factor for the 6-foot-4, 210-pounder when all is said and done.
*** Jeff Grimes did not have a deep pool of in-state offensive line targets in 2016, and the same goes for 2017.
After Adrian Ealy, Ethan Harvey is a guy who is impressive with his 6-foot-4, 287-pound frame. Harvey is mean, tenacious and mauls people inside.
Josh Cooper from Haughton is another one to keep an eye on with offers already coming from some Power 5 schools.
*** We will be going much deeper into this class over the coming days leading up to next Saturday’s Boys from the Boot event.
For now, enjoy your Mardi Gras weekend
cheers.gif

In football recruiting news, Chris Allen (LB/DE, 6'4", 222, Southern Lab, No. 2 on our list of Top LA Prospects for 2017) spent a lot of time on LSU’s campus, according to this report by Jimmy Smith of Nola. You might recall that last weekend Allen visited Alabama and then promptly named the Crimson Tide his leader. Another interesting thing noted in Smith’s article is that former LSU commit Dylan Moses (LB/RB, 6-2, 230, IMG Academy) is still high on LSU and has been reportedly recruiting for LSU while at IMG Academy. The word is that he and Allen have spoken about playing together at LSU in Coach Aranda’s new system. If LSU were able to land those two linebackers, that would be an amazing haul at a huge position of need.

Here are some Saturday recruiting tidbits to pass along...
***** A defensive back to watch is Houston safety Grant Delpit. He’s really blowing up on the recruiting scene. He got offered by LSU last week, and two days later Texas A&M offered. The following day Texas offered. Ole Miss, Nebraska and Oklahoma State offers all followed right after that. Frank Wilson even offered him at UTSA earlier this week. Needless to say he’s a hot commodity at the moment. The early feel I’ve gotten from people is that Baylor is a Lone Star State team that he really likes, but they offered just the day before LSU did, so things are on somewhat even ground for a lot of teams heading into the spring. LSU likes him a lot though and is going to make the Houston four-star a big target in this class.
***** A guy in the Peach State that LSU is pressing for is defensive tackle Emmanuel McNeil out of Lawrenceville. They actually were hoping he could come in this weekend for an unofficial visit, but I don’t believe they were able to get things squared away in time. LSU, Florida State, Alabama and South Carolina are all over him right now and have offered. It’s worth watching Auburn, Georgia and Clemson as offers are likely to come there. He’s a bit off the national radar as a three-star and the No. 31 defensive tackle prospect on the Composite rankings, but he’s a gem that a ton of teams are warming up to. Ed Orgeron is spearheading things on the LSU side right now.
***** Things are trending in the right direction for four-star Baton Rouge defensive lineman Bryan Jones. The Madison Prep standout was invited to Boys from the Boot, making the trip to campus with his grandparents, and I’m told they were really blown away by the entire weekend. I know that Ed Orgeron and Cam Cameron gave him a lot of one-on-one time and made sure he knows he’s a top target here in Louisiana even though they have not offered him yet. I think it’s only a matter of time there though, and my guess is that in the next few months he’s got an LSU offer. Miami and Cincinnati are a couple of the recent schools to extend him a scholarship this week. He went from just a handful of offers a couple weeks ago to 13 offers and counting, so colleges are trying to jump into the mix for him left and right. Once that LSU offers arrives though, I think it’s going to be tough for the local product to say no.
***** LSU offensive line coach Jeff Grimes is still hosting four-star Texas offensive lineman Edward Ingram. The DeSoto High standout came into town on Friday and got some one-on-one time in with the staff, got to hang out with some of the players and really spent a ton of time with Grimes. They even ate with a number of LSU people in Tiger Stadium on Friday night, so he got a unique experience even for an unofficial visit. It’s worth monitoring Ingram as LSU really likes him in this 2017 class. Alabama just offered this week, so his recruitment is really heating up. The visit came at the perfect time from everyone I’ve spoken with.
***** An interesting note to end on, Cam Cameron offered another quarterback in the 2017 class this week when he reached out to IMG Academy’s Kellen Mond with an offer. Mond has been committed to Baylor since last summer, and it will be interesting to see if the nation’s No. 5 dual-threat quarterback gives the Tigers a hard look. But more interesting is that Cameron is out offering more quarterbacks even before the spring evaluation period. You get the sense that they are going to want two quarterbacks in this class, and after how things played out in the 2016 cycle, it’s also becoming evident that they aren’t going to put all their eggs in Lowell Narcisse’s basket even though it appears he’s leaning towards the Tigers. Don’t expect Mond to be the last 2017 quarterback offered over the next couple months as Cameron begins to move through the board

LSU will host a large contingent of prospects for its annual junior day this Saturday.
The Tigers wrapped up its Boys From the Boot Junior Day a couple of weeks ago, which brought in most of the state's top prospects. The Tigers will now turn their attention to some out-of-state guys, as well as some Louisiana prospects who weren't able to attend the Boys From the Boot. Here is a rundown of some of the high-profile prospects expected to attend.
Alex Leatherwood, OL, 6-5, 300, Florida, Alabama commitments
Leatherwood declared for Alabama early on in his recruitment, but has maintained contact with multiple schools since giving his verbal pledge. An interesting note here is that Leatherwood was scheduled to visit Alabama this weekend, but elected to visit LSU instead.
Patrick Queen, ATH, Livonia, 6-1, 215
Queen wasn't able to attend the Boys From the Boot event, deciding to visit Mississippi State's Junior Day instead, so he will be making the short drive to LSU's campus this Saturday. Sources at LSU say Queen is on a shortlist of prospects who could receive an offer, which he states would likely end his recruitment. Expect the two parties to wrap up this recruitment on Saturday.
Grant Delpit, S, 6-2, 185, Texas
Delpit, a New Orleans native, will be visiting LSU for the first time since receiving his offer a short time ago. Sources at LSU are feeling very confident about their chance of landing his commitment in the near future, possibly as early as this weekend. Expect to see some breaking news on this front soon.
Marvin Wilson, DT, 6-4, 315, Texas
Wilson still has LSU in his top two, along with Alabama, but recent weeks have propelled the Tigers into a strong position. Wilson is friends with Delpit and the two would like to play together. A source extremely close to both told me that if LSU locks up Delpit, it's all but over with Wilson.
Montaric Brown, DB, 6-1, 180, Arkansas
Brown's recruitment has taken off since LSU extended an offer to him a short time ago. Brown is expected to visit with his family this weekend, and LSU has made him one of its top priorities in this class. Both sides seem to have grown fond of each other in recent weeks, making Brown a name to monitor this weekend.
Jaquan Henderson, S, 6-1, 190, Georgia, UCLA commitment

Henderson is one of LSU's latest offers and he is expected to make the drive to Baton Rouge this weekend with family. The three-star prospect jumps out on film and the staff is eager to get a look at him in person. The Tigers need safeties in this class and they believe Henderson is one of the best in the region.
Kedrick James, TE, 6-5, 245, Texas, Baylor commitment
James is one of the few tight ends who currently hold an offer from the Tigers. Sources state that it may be difficult for LSU to pull him away from Baylor, but James making the trip to Baton Rouge is certainly a plus for the Tigers.
Tony Gray, OT, 6-4, 290, Georgia
LSU offensive line coach Jeff Grimes casts a wide net when attempting to pull in the nation's best linemen. Gray is expected to visit this weekend, but it would be wise to temper expectations. He is said to be a big Georgia Bulldog fan, and LSU fans have a great understanding of how hard it can be to pull kids away from an in-state program.
Levi Jones, LB, 6-3, 210, Texas
This is a name to monitor very closely, as multiple sources state there is a genuine interest from Jones in the LSU program. The Texas Longhorns may be the toughest competition, but the depth chart at linebacker is working in LSU's favor. One source stated that Jones always had a liking for the LSU program and the offer was a possible game changer.
<iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.hudl.com/embed/athlete/3886581/highlights/307743405" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe> K'Lavon Chaisson, DE/LB, 6-3, 220, Texas
The Tigers are in the top two for this standout defender, along with Baylor, his father's alma mater. The Tigers have maintained a solid relationship after extending him his first scholarship offer, and they may have a chance to close the deal in the future, but Baylor will make things extremely difficult

LSU pulling into the lead for a Texas DB?
Grant Delpit, who plays his high school football in Houston but is a native of New Orleans, is someone that has emerged onto LSU’s radar in a big way since NSD. And once the Tigers offered, a lot of people started feeling pretty good about LSU’s chances of landing him in this 2017 class. He is someone the staff really likes at safety, and they made him a big priority during his two-night visit to LSU a couple weeks back. Barton Simmons has put in his Crystal Ball pick for Delpit to LSU, and I’ve put mine in as well. I’m not ready to peg a time frame, but I do think things happen sooner than later. Keep an eye on things here.
LSU leading for two Texas recruits?
Another 2017 four-star prospect in Texas that I feel good about in terms of LSU’s chances is offensive lineman Austin Deculus. I went ahead and made my Crystal Ball pick for LSU, and a lot of people feels it’s a battle between the Tigers and Baylor with LSU leading. Jeff Grimes has done a great job here. The Cy-Fair rising senior is ranked as the No. 6 prospect in the Lone Star State, the No. 11 offensive tackle in the class and the No. 60 overall prospect in the country. He was at Under Armour’s Future 50 in January, and he’s definitely considered one of the best linemen in this class. It would be a huge add for LSU. I get the feeling that before the summer sets in, he will have a final decision made.
Don’t bank on Tate Martell
LSU offered Texas A&M five-star quarterback commitment Tate Martell last week, and he’s now said he will visit Baton Rouge and is familiar - and has now spoken numerous times - with LSU offensive coordinator Cam Cameron. Even if he does visit, it would take a ton for him to flip away from the Aggies. That’s just my gut feel. And if he does, perhaps it’s for a school closer to home. I think Southern Cal could come into play here if he does wind up looking around. But right now he’s nothing more than a long shot for LSU. At least from where I see it.

LSU leading, but Miami a darkhorse?
The 247Sports team caught up with Pat Surtain Jr. and he confirmed that LSU still leads, but a lot of teams are starting to press the 2018 CB out of Florida. His old head coach at American Heritage just got the DB job at Miami, so obviously they are turning up the heat big time. His dad actually got the American Heritage head job as Mike Rumph's replacement, for those wondering. Surtain is close with Corey Raymond and the Tigers have done a great job getting out front early thanks to his connections to the NOLA area (family still lives there and his father was born in New Orleans before attending Southern Miss).
Another Sunshine State DB likes LSU
Four-star 2017 safety Daniel Wright out of Florida told 247Sports this weekend that FSU is his current leader, but that LSU sits as the No. 2 team. Wright visited last summer for a few days when he came in with Trayvon Mullen for camp. Corey Raymond has been on him for a while now, but this is one that I thing is trending big time towards the Noles. Most people I’ve talked with feel like FSU has a pretty commanding lead.
The guy to keep an eye on…
It’s time to start paying more attention to Alabama’s Malik Cunningham. He’s the three-star athlete that Dameyune Craig and the staff brought in for Junior Day, and he got offered by the Tigers and said it was at quarterback - which is what he plays now in high school. Some other teams are looking at him as an “athlete”, but LSU’s offer was for the quarterback spot. He just recently said he was going to be announcing his decision soon, but didn’t reveal a timeframe. He obviously just visited LSU and got the offer from the Tigers, and some of his other big offers are Georgia, Georgia Tech, Kentucky and Louisville are some of his other top offers right now. He’s going to make an unofficial visit to Alabama this week on Friday for the Tide’s first spring practice. They have not offered him yet, but it’s worth keeping an eye on that visit and if an offer is made. Cunningham is also teammates with offensive tackle Tank Jenkins, who is the No. 1 prospect in Alabama for the 2018 class. Alabama hasn’t offered him yet either, but LSU has - among a number of other big programs across the Southeast

Three start recruit Jordan Griffin describes his in-home visit with a South Carolina assistant coach

Q: What is the funniest thing any head coach said to you during the entire recruiting process?

A: Probably the South Carolina coach. It wasn’t the head coach, but a South Carolina coach, he was speaking on the basis of if a coach got offered another job and it’s higher that they’ll leave and things like that. He said if Ohio State had offered him another job that his butt would have been gone to Ohio State and he would be calling me the next day asking if I want to go to Ohio State. That was in a home visit. It was hilarious.

Q: Who was it that said that?

I forgot his name. He came from Georgia. He just moved to South Carolina this year.

Q: Was it Bryan McClendon?

A: If I’m not mistaken. I’m not sure exactly though

QB from Hawaii commits to Alabama. Name is Tua or something. Long way from home though

Here are some tidbits to pass along on some of the recruits that the staff is still recruiting despite their commitment to another SEC school…
Cheyenne Labruzza - Tennessee - The lone Louisiana native on this list is Labruzza, an Albany High standout who committed to Tennessee after a visit to the team’s spring game last month. But will it stick? LSU is pressing hard, with head coach Les Miles even playing his part (coaches are allowed unlimited text messages to prospect now, and Miles and Labruzza have been in constant contact). Corey Raymond has also continued to work on Labruzza, and there’s some growing optimism that the Tigers will be able to flip the recent Volunteers pledge. Expect Labruzza to be on campus later this month for the Bayou Picnic recruiting event, and he’s going to be in attendance for at least one of LSU’s camps this summer.
Alex Leatherwood - Alabama - The Pensacola, Fla., five-star offensive lineman is a familiar face for LSU fans, with offensive line coach Jeff Grimes making Leatherwood a priority early in his recruiting process, even hosting him on campus earlier this spring despite his pledge to the Tide. Leatherwood said LSU’s staff gave him a ton to think about, and it’s becoming clear that if Leatherwood blinks on his commitment to Alabama, LSU has positioned themselves as the next team up. The nation’s No. 6 offensive tackle prospect has maintained an open line of communication with the LSU staff and will take an official visit to Baton Rouge next fall.
VanDarius Cowen - Alabama - Cowen had been committed to Florida State, but after an unofficial visit to Alabama last month, the Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., native decided to drop his pledge to the Seminoles and flip to the Tide. At 6-foot-4 and 217 pounds, Cowen can play either defensive end or outside linebacker at the college level, with Alabama and LSU both recruiting him as a 3-4 outside linebacker. He’s ranked as a Top 100 prospect and the No. 5 outside linebacker prospect in the 2017 class. Expect LSU to push to get the recent Alabama pledge onto campus this summer for one of the teams two main camps. He could also make an appearance in Baton Rouge for the Bayou Picnic at the end of the month.
Gary Johnson - Alabama - There’s not much to not like about Johnson, a 6-foot-1 and 225 pound middle linebacker who is ranked as the No. 2 overall JUCO prospect in the 2017 class. He’s from Birmingham, Ala., which is a big reason why he got on board with Alabama when they turned up the heat on him in March. Johnson will play his final year of JUCO ball at Dodge City Community College in Kansas before enrolling in the school of his choice in January. LSU has an offer on the table and will continue to recruit the elite linebacker prospect.
Ravian Pierce - Mississippi State - Pierce is a name some LSU fans might not have heard much about, but it’s time to get familiar with the Mississippi State pledge. Pierce is playing his JUCO ball at Southwest Mississippi Community College, and LSU has been out to see him already this spring - and an offer is on the table. At 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds, the LSU staff feels Pierce is one of the best options at tight end when talking immediate help next season, and he’s ranked as the No. 1 tight end prospect in all of JUCO. He committed to Mississippi State last October, but watch out for a big push from the Tigers moving forward.
Mannie Netherly - Texas A&M - Behind Labruzza, Netherly might be the name on this list that LSU has the best chance to flip away from their SEC competition. The Crosby wide receiver has turned into one of LSU’s top targets in Texas, and with family ties to Louisiana and even Baton Rouge, the Tigers have turned up the heat this spring. By the time the spring game came and went, Netherly had made three unofficial visits to LSU’s campus in the span of just a few months. The Lone Star State standout has told 247Sports that if he winds up parting ways with Texas A&M, LSU is the clearcut No. 2 school and would emerge as the immediate favorite for the four-star wide receiver. The Tigers will visit Netherly’s high school next week during the spring evaluation period.
Jaden Hunter - Georgia - There were some LSU predictions on Hunter’s 247Sports Crystal Ball when he committed to Georgia in January. Alabama also had a handful of predictions in to land Hunter, so there was some confusion on where the Atlanta four-star prospect might end up. Ed Orgeron and Dave Aranda have continued to maintain contact with the Westlake standout, and the Tigers are hoping to host the Top247 outside linebacker for camp this summer. Hunter checks in at 6-foot-2 and 212 pounds and has more than 20 offers under his belt.
Calvin Ashley - Auburn - Ashley is the No. 2 prospect in Florida and No. 3 offensive tackle in the 2017 class, playing his high school ball at First Academy in Orlando, Fla. He committed to Auburn one year ago, and he’s been pretty solid to the Tigers since then, most recently visiting for the team’s spring game. Jeff Grimes has remained in contact with Ashley though, and a visit for a game next fall isn’t out of the realm of possibilities for the five-star lineman.

I love that this grown ass man is spazzing out on twitter about loyalty...as if coaches show any degree of loyalty to recruits. Whether it's a coach recruiting a kid to a school and then leaving for a new job at the drop of a hat...or pulling an offer last minute. It really is the height of hypocrisy.

Not to mention, it's not like Martell decomitted the day before signing day. Martell has been visiting other schools for months now and you have 9 months to find yourself another qb. Get over it.

After an odd night in College Station, it appears that is the case.
On Wednesday evening, five-star quarterback Tate Martell announced he was no longer committed to the Aggies. And after a series of tweets on "loyalty" and "trust" from Texas A&M wide receivers coach Aaron Morehead, four-star wide receiver Mannie Netherly also announced he was no longer committed to the Aggies.
"After tonight, I see what kind of person my 'future coach' is and I myself don't want to play for someone like that, so without further ado I would like to announce that I am decommitting from Texas A&M," he said in a statement on social media.
While the Tigers had an offer out to Martell, LSU offensive coordinator Cam Cameron already has two quarterbacks in for the 2017 class.
But LSU will press to reel in Netherly, who has family in Louisiana and has visited Baton Rouge multiple times this spring. Prior to his decommitment, Netherly told 247Sports that the Tigers were his No. 2 team.
On Thursday morning, Taylor Hamm and Brian Peronni, writers at Texas A&M's 247 site, both put in their Crystal Ball prediction for the Tigers to land Netherly. Shea Dixon from Geaux247 entered his Crystal Ball prediction for LSU soon thereafter.
Netherly is ranked as the No. 209 overall prospect in the 2017 class.

Sumlin is on the clock I say.....made his bones off Johnny, and some Bama wins

kinda unreal how much he got paid, etc

Singular there Twink. 3-0 other than that one that got Sumlin paid and JFF the Heisman

Austin Thomas, LSU’s former Director of Player Personnel, is now headed back to Baton Rouge, multiple sources at LSU confirmed with the Geaux247 staff.
Thomas left LSU for a job at Southern Cal on Feb. 18, where he was named USC’s Assistant Athletic Director, head of Player Personnel and NFL research. Less than four months later, the Tigers have convinced him to return to his post in the Bayou State.
Thomas will once again be in charge of LSU’s recruiting efforts under Miles and recruiting coordinator Ed Orgeron, with an emphasis put on player evaluation, managing the recruiting database and helping organize recruiting events on LSU’s campus.
In his three years with LSU from 2013-16, the Tigers finished with top five recruiting classes during each cycle. LSU also had a top five class just prior to Thomas’ arrival in 2013, marking the first time in the Miles era that LSU had put together back-to-back top five classes, which the Tigers have now done four years in a row. Thomas had been at USC for the four years prior, working for the Trojans from 2010-13.
Thomas was named FootballScoop.com’s 2015 Player Personnel Director of the Year following a lengthy stint with LSU at No. 1 in the 247Sports team rankings. In an interview with FootballScoop.com in January, Orgeron called Thomas one of the brightest minds in the recruiting game.
“Austin is a great evaluator,” Orgeron said. “He spends countless hours devouring film and is highly organized when gathering information on a player. From talent identification and evaluation, to connecting with the players and managing all of their visits, Austin runs all of it."
It’s another home run hire for Miles and the LSU brass, with new defensive coordinator Dave Aranda and two new position coaches on offense in Jabbar Juluke and Dameyune Craig also brought on this offseason.

Twink, what are y'all hearing on Stephen Guidry, JUCO WR? I've heard we basically locked him up this weekend, and people seem to be thrilled about it. Supposed to be a stud

he was just at LSU yesterday

who knows....LSU is absolutely loaded with WRs right now...all young

and they seem to only be eyeing a few this go around

Here are some tidbits to pass along...
**** The big news of the day on Tuesday was that five-star linebacker Dylan Moses was on campus hanging out with the staff. I’m told he got up there and spent some time chatting with defensive coordinator Dave Aranda, and I’m also told there relationship has really blossomed after Aranda was brought on earlier this year. They have now had the chance to hang out with each other a good bit, and I get the feeling Moses has really warmed up to Aranda.
Moses then met with Les Miles in his office. I’m told they hung out together for a couple hours, actually. Miles and Moses have a really good relationship, and I think yesterday’s trip drives that point home. Remember, even when Moses had decommitted, he was backing Miles when last November played out like it did.
Moses got LSU fans excited on Tuesday when he tweeted that nothing would make him happier than seeing the Tigers win a national championship, adding that he was always going to be a kid from the 225. It’s no coincidence that Moses is seeing things in that light this week. He’s a huge fan of LeBron (his Twitter handle is “KingMoses”, for instance), and seeing LeBron get a championship in his hometown for the Cavs is something that resonates with him. We all wondered if Dylan leaving Baton Rouge for IMG would have an impact with him being gone from home for the first time. I think we are starting to see LSU benefit from his departure, strangely enough. I like where things stand right here moving into the middle of the summer...
**** Some more big news came on Tuesday with four-star wide receiver Jhamon Ausbontelling me that he’s now down to LSU and Texas A&M. That’s huge news given the Tigers were seemingly not even in the picture earlier this spring. But Dameyune Craig has turned up the heat in a big way. They brought Ausbon to the satellite camp in Houston last week, then brought him and his parents into Baton Rouge over the weekend. Ausbon told me that visit reminded him of why he loved LSU so much in the beginning, and he called it a “dream come true” that the Tigers were pushing for him right now. He hinted that a decision could come soon, but that might not necessarily mean it’s for LSU. The Aggies just landed one IMG kid in linebacker Santino Marchiol, and they are now expecting another IMG player to follow suit when quarterback Kellen Mond announces his decision next week. Brian Peronni at the A&M site is hearing that decision will come next Wednesday. Texas A&M is hoping the dominos fall with three IMG guys in a row if Ausbon pops after that. Now, he’s also close with another IMG player in Grant Delpit, who I believe winds up at LSU when he announces at The Opening in a few weeks. I think Ausbon is going back-and-forth here between LSU and the Aggies. It’s probably closer than a lot of us realize.
**** Another Houston prospect that LSU is pushing for is outside linebacker K’Lavon Chaisson. He just released his top 10 teams, and had LSU sitting third behind Oklahoma and Houston. Baylor and Texas A&M, two teams that some folks felt have a legit shot, were not present in his top 10. We will see how things play out here, but don’t count out LSU. The coaches are pressing for him as hard as anyone right now, and they certainly want to reel him into this class after becoming the very first school to offer him a scholarship.

AND HOT the Agggies are......

LSU picks up Jhamon Ausbon WR(ranked 11th at WR) from IMG Academy via TX.....that is 2 kids from TX in a few days.....LSU may lose Devonta Smith to Bama( I say "lose" very loosely.....the thought is Bama the whole way on our boards) but LSU is starting to look like WRU now lol.....with ZERO QB play. It would be nice to have B Harris show and prove this year and then have either Scott or Brennan( yea, THAT famillies cousin) or Narcisse in a couple years play well........STACKED at WR now

Twink...why can't LSU find a QB? They recruiting the wrong guys, can't develop them or just can't get a good one to commit?

3 Star CB Adam Sparks from Dutchtown HS (right next to BR) Anchors Down! with the 'Dores

Good for him.....1st SEC offer, his 12th overall. I bet others come calling and his stock rises....but I hope he stays with Vandy and gets that nice degree behind his name

And Vandy is no slouch on Defense

Congrats

Twink...why can't LSU find a QB? They recruiting the wrong guys, can't develop them or just can't get a good one to commit?

A question that goes ALLLLLLLLLLL the way back to the Ryan Perrilloux/ Colt McCoy deal. Also, throw in a Mauck and a Mauck and Flynn and get some National 'Ships hey...shit works out. Also, whatever people think about Jamarcus Russell in the pros, that guy was a fucking MONSTER in college. Man among boys, and had he had ANY work ethic, he was likely playing in another 'Ship game rather than curb stomping a COMPLETELY over matched Notre Dame team that thought they belonged on the same field ........So to answer your question, it is a bit complicated. Sometimes the wrong guys, many times they cannot develop, and sometimes can't get the commit to stick.

Let us just start with the Jarret Lee/ Jordan Jefferson debacle, because that is recent for most. What a shit show. You know the story I am sure and how Les had to juggle the 2 QBs that year for reasons bad and odd...Let me just get this part out the way, but a season for the AGES gets erased because of some real real bullshit rules and gets us to the system we have now......I will let you look at who was ranked where and where these teams played later in what bowls, but this team was bad to the fucking bone

SOOOOO

LSU gets Mettenberger in a transfer and he has been the last real quality guy.

Anthony Jennings was thrown in way way too early.....as was Brandon Harris( 4 star who had offers from Ohio St, you name it)

The kid who flipped last minute to FLA last year stung as well......all egggs were in that basket

BUT

They took a local 3 star in Lindsey Scott last year who is under sized for SEC ball by many opinions, but is a winner.

And they have 2 bad ass kids coming in this coming year if it all sticks

But the problem has kinda been recruiting kids that don't always fit the system completely.....so it has been a bit of a quagmire......I think all that changes, as LSU will still run a mainly pro style offense, but modified in the future

the issue right now is....how can you NOT run a pro-style O with Lenny and Guice in the backfield (which will,be the best backfield in LSU history and the best in the country this year) and the WRs on the squad?

But yea.......frustrating lol
