Lines aren't out obviously but I will likely take series lines on the following:

Rangers -160?
TB -150?
Ottawa +150?
Chicago -110?
Blues -160?
Caps -125?
Jets +165?

no feel for the Canucks series, feel pretty confident the Rangers should clean house with the pens. I like the jets chances a lot to upset Anaheim, not a fan of their team. Price has been struggling as of late, think Ottawa takes that series. Interested to see where the lines come out.

As a fan of the rangers, the 2 teams I didn't want to see was montreal and ottawa... glad theyre playing eachother, should be a great series too.....

IMO without Lundqvist the Rangers couldn't advance that far. But with that said its all about above average offense and superb goaltending in the playoffs. Rangers meet both of these qualifications.

Kane is expected back this series which is a bit of a surprise, some Chicago writers saying hes probable for game 1, others saying game 3 more likely

Nashville really faded hard down the stretch, they only had 8 wins in their last 25 games

biggest special teams gaps when adding up PK/PP

Rethinking my Isles initial selection after seeing how big the gap is in special teams there, Washington has the 2nd ranked PP and when you add up that and the pk they are way above league average at 106%, meanwhile the Islanders were the only playoff team with a pk below 80%, and their's added up is 96%, a 10% gap (the next two biggest advantages are Vancouver and St.Louis at 5 and 4)

leans on Jets, Ottawa, STL and Caps. Was off on my prediction for Caps opener, expected it to be a bit tighter. Also thought the Pens would command more respect. Ducks and Montreal are very vulnerable in my mind going up against 2 red hot teams.

When this first came out, Senators were at +160. I didn't play it, but obviously much of the value is now gone. Senators playing great of late, obviously, to make that playoff surge.
They've handled Montreal pretty well during the season series, but this is the playoffs. Senators much greener when it comes to playoff experience, and Montreal having home ice advantage is pretty huge. And during a playoff series, it almost all comes down to goaltending, and to a lesser degree special teams. I know this stretch for the hamburglar has been historic, but Price has been there all year, and has been there before.

Islanders have limped home bad down the stretch. This is a very jeckyl and hyde team, imo. Some nights they come out like wildfire and can skate circles around anyone. Other nights, much more timid, looking at each other for who is to score. Islanders still a very young team, with one of the most talented players in the league in Tavares. But, I do believe if you can shut him down, the Islanders will be hard pressed to get a consistent offensive threat. Capitals have been in the playoffs plenty of times in the past, and to me, have a pretty tested lineup that can get it done. Holtby been playing pretty good of late. One thing that the Caps do better than just about anyone else in the east is they get Ovie out there often against lesser defensive pairings. Be it double shifting him, what have you. I don't think the Islanders really have a shut down defensive pairing that can handle him, and being that special teams can prove to be so important in the playoffs, giving Washington power plays can prove to be lethal. I think the Islanders may have the overall edge talentwise, however, in form, experience, goal tending, and special teams, all check marks to the Caps

This series opened at -210, last night saw -200 and now -225 in Rangers favor.
Rangers have been the best team in the NHL for the past 2+ months now. They roll out three very potent offensive lines, have 6 solid defenseman (pending a Klein return) and have one of the top goaltenders in the world. Lundqvist has been back for about two weeks now and has shown little to no rust, which is huge. A healthy Klein return would mean the Rangers have two teams of shut down type defenseman in Girardi/McDonagh and Staal/Klein. The Penguins will do all they can to get Crosby out there against the Boyle/Yandle pairing, but even that pairing is not too terrible so long as they don't get caught forward too much.
Just last year, the Pens had the Rangers dead in the water, up 3-1, with two games left in Pitt. Game 5 the Rangers dominated from the onset and that really catapulted them into their deep playoff run. I think the Rangers came out a bit flat after a series they should have easily handled Philly, turned into a 7 game monster. I think this Rangers team is geared to win now and they want to.
The Penguins have not been good of late, and not helping is only being able to roll out 5 defenseman, maybe only 1-2 of which are any good. But even more so, they are having major issues on offense finding that secondary scoring which is so crucial this time of year. I think I heard that over a 8 or 10 game stretch, only one Penguin had more than 2 points on their team (crosby). You can't go that long relying on just one guy. Penguins can win any short series. They have the best player in the game, they have a solid power play, and their goalkeeper is decent enough to keep them in the game. I just don't see it here.
The play - Rangers in 6 (Rangers at -200 or better is a play)

Red Wings are in the playoffs again, that seems to be every year for the past quarter century, oh wait it is. The Lightning are really rounding into form here this year. They have a very good mix of offensive players, two way players, good defense and decent goaltending. When they're on, they seem to control the game very handily, with a solid forecheck, hard to get any sustained offensive pressure against, and just kind of one of those annoying teams to play against - kind of like the Bruins during their Stanley Cup wins.
The Red Wings to me are a solid, but unspectacular team. They have a pretty solid top 6 on offense, but they don't have the Lindstrom type defenseman anymore.
I do believe this matchup is closer than it is lined as people don't give the Wings enough credit. This could be a good, long series.

The Play - Lightning in 7 (no play on series price, but Wings at +185/190 or better would be nice)

All in all, the east may seem pretty chalky, probably because I tend to overvalue home ice advantage in series like the Canadians/Senators. I don't like laying heavy juice on series for a few reasons, mainly, if the favorite I like loses the first game, you get a much, much better price. If you play the dog, and they win the first game, you can pretty easily layoff some exposure too. I like to watch a game or two before committing, but it is always fun to talk about the series.
No writeups for the West because I am not near as familiar with those teams, but I did play the Wild, and I do like Ducks and Canucks. I also like the Predators, but they have been kind of limping coming down the homestretch here, and aren't as deep as the other teams in the west. IF they win a series though, Hawks are right for the taking early. The longer they are in, the tougher out they can be.

Even though I initially leaned Blues, as you point out, the goaltending issues are troublesome and Minny will be prepared for a ultra physical series. Blues will have their hands full no doubt, wouldn't be shocked to see Minny prevail.

I like the Blues high end players a little better than the Wild, and I like the production of the D for the Flames (even without Giordano) and the Jets (Byfuglien should be a huge difference maker). The Jets also go from a very tough division into the weaker West, which could help them for a couple of rounds.

You think it's Rangers vs Lightning in the Eastern Conference final?

Gut says Rangers but I'll be pulling for GR8 and crew. Tampa has handled NY pretty well this year. If its the Caps then the Bolts figure to be better fresher as I see the Metro series being long ones.

Caps could easily get hot and surprise with scoring power and hot goaltending, I think Henrik has been a bit shakey this year and Rangers scoring can go cold from time to time.

Hot damn is it nice to see playoffs without Boston, La, and I wish Shitsburgh.
