#1 LB, #12 Rivals Overall commits to ND......

Hawaiiguy

Big Kahuna
Widely regarded as the #1 OVERALL Recruit this year, especially after ESPN.com featured him on their home page and his performance in the Under Armour All Star Game....

Had USC, UCLA, and ND as Final 3....

Manti Teo, from Punahou, Hawaii (same school as Barack Obama, Michelle Wie, Steve Case (AOL Founder), etc....) commits to ND......

His cousin Sia Teo was booted out of BYU last week, so he crossed them off his list.......

The USC Radio guys were in dead silence and shock on Hawaii Radio this morning when they heard this......

Now, Charlie Weiss playing in the Hawaii Bowl becomes clear....

WHY MANTI WHY????? ANY WHERE BUT NOTRE DAME!!!!!!!!!!! WHERE 5 STAR RECRUITS GO AND DISAPPEAR!!!!!!!!!!!

:whip::hang::pillow::whip:

Pretty suprised by this as well. I am sure Petey is too.

Just watched his interview.

Hope Teo can make 20+ tackles a game...think sometimes these kids want to be "the man" so badly they forget they need 10 other decent players around them to be successful.

Pretty suprised by this as well. I am sure Petey is too.

Just watched his interview.

Yeah, USC just lost their #2 LB recruit to Arizona State......

Everyone in Hawaii was shocked by his decision along with those USC people......

Manti is a stud but excitement over his decision should be tempered since he's stated he plans on going on his mission after his frosh year. after his 2 years away, his recruitment will likely start up all over again

still a huge coup for ND

5:57 p.m. -- Alabama lands No. 1 recruiting class ... again

When it was crunch time, Alabama coach Nick Saban pulled out the Rammer Jammer Yellow Hammer and pounded his way to his second consecutive Rivals.com recruiting national championship.
The Crimson Tide were crowned the nation's best again after finishing with a remarkable run in Saban's third recruiting class in Tuscaloosa. The Tide closed with running back Eddie Lacy, offensive lineman Brandon Moore, linebacker Tana Patrick and wide receivers Kenny Bell and Kendall Kelly on Wednesday.
The Tide finished just ahead of LSU, USC, Ohio State and Texas. The rest of the top 10 consisted of Florida State at No. 6, Michigan at No. 7, North Carolina at No. 8, Georgia at No. 9 and Florida at No. 10.
There are several uncommitted players who could cause some shifts in the top 10, but nobody has enough left on the board to knock the Tide from the top.
Check out the full story.
5:21 p.m. -- Three major prospects still deciding

The hectic part of National Signing Day is starting to wind down, but three Rivals100 prospects still remain on the board.
Running back Bryce Brown, the No. 1 recruit in the country, and all-purpose back David Oku have put their decisions off indefinitely while defensive back Janzen Jackson could sign with a school tonight or tomorrow.
Jackson is committed to LSU but visited Alabama and Tennessee in recent weeks.
Brown is committed to Miami, where his brother Arthur is a rising sophomore. However, he is weighing his options with Oregon, Kansas State, USC, Tennessee and Auburn.
Oku decided Wednesday morning to wait to sign a National Letter of Intent. He is committed to Tennessee but took recent visits to Syracuse and Auburn.

3:46 p.m. -- The fight for No. 1 is up for grabs...

It all hinges on Escambia (Pensacola, Fla.) running back Trent Richardson, the No. 2 running back in the country. Richardson originally committed to Alabama, but has since visited LSU, Florida State and Florida.
If Richardson sticks with the Tide, Alabama will finish No. 1. If he chooses any other school, LSU will have the top-ranked class.

Richardson is the second Florida commit to switch to rival Tennessee, joining Marsalis Teague.
1:40 p.m. -- USC gets Jones out of Georgia

So fucking funny that BYU's #1 recruit of their class got busted for a DUI last week and has been placed on probation for all of 2009. This following some large scandal that involved Manti Teo and about a dozen other BYU recruits were found to be at a party involving alcohol. Keep in mind that alcohol is the ultimate sin at the Mormon school. Top things off Manti, a Mormon, goes to a Catholic school. Sometimes life just makes you smile.

Half the time ND gets a good player I'm skeptical as to just how good they are, but not this kid, Pete Carroll had a big ole boner over this guy and if there's one thing we can all agree on it would be that Pete Carroll knows linebackers.

I was under the impression that most of the Mormon football players go on the missions because they're not likely to make a career playing football and those folks generally are more serious in their commitment to the church, but that most of the elite prospects just play their ball and then go to the NFL and skip the mission. I know there was some discussion about Haloti Ngata doing his mission, but instead he played out his time at UO and went to the Ravens, and I think that's the general approach for most. If you're bad or just OK, maybe even slightly above average you do your mission, but if you're an elite can't miss prospect I thought they usually played ball and skipped the mission. Maybe that's not correct, but I thought that was the usual pattern.

Paul Kruger went on a mission from Utah. Collie from BYU went on a mission. Manti is said to be going on a mission along with Xavier Su'a Filo. Always a funny joke around Utah that if the players are "stars" they find a way to do 1 year missions at BYU rather than the standard 2 year missions. Max Hall's mission, for example, lasted less than 2 years.

As long as BYU didn't get Manti, I am kinda happy.....

But fugging Notre Dame???????? Almost as bad as BYU.......

One clarification though, Manti Teo was NOT at the party at BYU, his cousin Sia Teo was though and got booted......

Wizardofodd, thanks for the write up from rivals.com.......

I gotta admit, I am a closet Alabama fan.....

Certainly been a topic of speculation as he was in Provo the weekend of the "party". NO worries either way as I'm just glad he gave byU the bird.

Bama fan? Well you must really hate the Utes twofold over this years Sugar Bowl.

nah, not fanatic into Alabama or anything, just keep up with them, since they were kind enough to play us three times recently, and they came down here twice, i just dont see Florida returning for the game Hawaii flew 5,500 miles for this year........

If i remember right , weiss made two trips prior to that bowl game that month alone trying to get this kid.

Even though these guys ended up being crap didn't Ben Olson and Shawn Bradley go on 2 year missions? I know before they went they were big names.

correct:cheers:

i think most in hawaii thought he was doing it all in vain, i guess that fat guy knew what he was doing after all.

Stupid decision to go to ND, but these kids will learn one day.

Side note: Janzen Jackson signed with Tennessee over LSU this morning. Cock sucker

Reuben Randle must be one scary mother fucker.

2/4 12:45pm -- Randle commits to LSU

2/4 1:15pm -- Kelly commits to Bama

2/4 2:15pm -- Kenny Bell commits to Bama

2/5 9:15am -- Janzen Jackson commits to Tennessee

LSU was the hands down favorite to get all of these guys for months with the exception of Kelly. I believe most considered him to be 70/30 Bama/LSU.
