Youngstown boys

honestly got bored 5 minutes in and turned to college hoops

and Rex, the Escobars piece is possibly the only thing to this day that will get me to stop what I'm doing and just watch when it comes on, the most remarkable documentary I've seen sports or not.

Agree with Rex, the 30 for 30 "The Two Escobars" was off the charts so when I saw these were the same guys who made "Youngstown Boys", I had to watch it. Also agree KJohnson, though it took me all of 22 minutes into the piece to realize this was boring, slow, uninteresting

I guess I thought this was new right now. I'm sick so my head isn't on straight.

The part about his dad dying is heavy. This whole section of he and tressel getting together after he got out of jail is solid

Congrats for making it that far, I'm sure there are some pretty awesome parts to it, but the concept just couldn't reel me in to keep interest

Would love the Cliff notes (side note, I met a guy who was a dear friend of Cliff, who invented Cliff's notes today at this damned holiday party that ruined my day)

was bored at times, but it got interesting after after the national championship. They painted some people in a bad light that maybe didn't deserve to be painted in such a bad light. Jim Brown is an OG. Seems like he has his life turned around, but would not be surprised to find out if he got in trouble again. They made him look like a saint towards the end.

I was at that natty ship game and felt dirty after watching mcgahee put his knee on backwards then the phantom PI in the endzone, but I can't lie, it was one of the most electric atmospheres I've ever been around

Never seen more son on father smooching (Ohio thing I guess) but thankfully I was wasted enough to just accept it as a bonding experience

Buddy of mine is over and big OSU fan so we are watching it now. I have started to get bored now. After he failed at the combine, it started going downhill. Now at the part of Tressel with the autographs. Now I am happy and hoping it gets better.

I thought the Chris Herron one was the best.

that one was good.

"The Two Escobars" in my opinion is untouchable. As Rex said, probably the best documentary sports or otherwise, ever made. It evoked emotions from all levels and places. It is a masterpiece. People I know who are not even into soccer nor really knew who Pablo Escobar was, watched it after my recommendation and they were mesmerized, they said they watched it 3 or 4 more times.

loved this one as well

these are the other ones I liked

Fab Five
Chris Herron
Benji
Ben Johnson

I thought the one about money had the potential to be amazing, but in reality it sucked

June 22, 1994, the one about OJ, was also very well made.

A fantastic one that has not been mentioned was the one about Marcus Dupree. Then again I'm a Sooner fan so am biased, but I thought that one was really, really good.

Thought this 30 30 was really good....makes me mad how the court ruled in a 'free' country......wrong

Actually watched the Two Escobars last night on Netflix. Fantastic film. Best 30 for 30 I've seen. Have only seen a handful though

Will watch the two escobars on netflix as well...thanks for looking out guys...never had any interest till this thread.

kjohnson, here's a sick story for y'all. My ex-girlfriend was a Colombian hooker who used to live here and she is from Medellin originally. So we're watching it one night and some of the shady cartel characters that get interviewed (in addition to some of the soccer players) pop on there and she's like "I know him". I didn't doubt her out loud, but i thought she was pulling my leg. Sure enough, someone pops on there and she says "oh, look it's such-and-such", and lo and behold the guy's name pops on the screen like 2 seconds later. This happened like 4 times. I was bewildered and fascinated that she knew all these shady motherfuckers, lmao.

Didn't like the Youngstown boys all that much but I certainly didn't think it sucked. The two 30 for 30 episodes that stand head and shoulders above the rest are The Two Escobars (as already mentioned) and Once Brothers about Vlade and Drazen. I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet, it's amazing and very powerful.

Yes I forgot the Vlade and Drazen one, that was fantastic. There have been so many episodes of the '30 for the 30' series that I've seen, this one you mention has got to be in the top 5 or 6.

I still like the Marcus Dupree one a lot also.

I like many of the ones mentioned in here, a few others that I enjoyed...Ghosts of Ole Miss, You Don't Know Bo, Run Ricky Run, The U, Without Bias, and the Reggie Miller vs the NYKs one.

There are so many, that it's easy to forget all of them, and forget some that you may have really liked.

Here's the complete list of the 30 for 30 films that have aired. The one that aired just before this Youngstown Boys one, Bernie and Ernie, was pretty damn good as well.

It was ok. Horrible editing. You can tell they had little film and it was rushed. Hate it when they do reenactments in documentaries, like they did in the jimmy the Greek movie. They need to do one on the 2006 national championship game.
