So we are going to go into 2008 with everyone 2 years older on D than they where when we went to SB and expect greatness again Goop? That makes no sense. I mean, ya, a few players in our secondary are peaking (Vasher at the top of that list) but i just dont see it. You want to fix the o-line so badly b/c ...
I mean we have zero skilled players as is on offense outside of maybe the te spots. Sure lets upgrade the oline a tad there so Cedric can get 2.9 instead of 2.7. Yuck.
Id rather get a back in a later round.
I want a game changer at safety. Who could stop the other team te and play the run, get us some more great field position so our enemic offense can maybe get 3.
I don't make sense? Two years brew. Two years? You're surely kidding me. Yes, for sure I expect "greatness" out of this defense that we have had and STILL have:
DE: Ogunleye, 30, Anderson, 24, Brown, 28.
DT: Harris, 24, Dvoracek, 25, Idonije, 27.
OLB: Briggs, 27, Hillenmeyer, 27, Williams, 23.
MLB: Urlacher, 29.
CB: Vasher, 26, Tillman, 27.
S: Brown, 30, Manning, 25, McGowan, 24, Payne 24. No need to include Arch.
Where is the old age? Brown and Ogunleye are a yes, but both positions have been addressed in the draft recently, last year and the year before in fact. This team won't be doing anything drastically with those positions, out of stubbornness some might say, fine, but still. They have talent at all the positions and have been bit by the injury bug BIG time. Some might say Brown is more than done and the bug has stayed with him which I might agree with but the switch to the other side should prove interesting at the least. They don't have any other options besides the idea of drafting someone but why with what they have? Four safeties without Arch? Come on now.
What do you mean peaking for Vasher? If you mean his best football is behind him, then I don't see it. He is 26 and played four games last year. Tillman and him have led the league together in picks over their career minus last year. If that's not what you mean, my bad.
And yes, I want this team to address the offensive line, the question is why you don't? Do you not feel it is a problem with this team or it is not important to have a good offensive line? If you want to talk about age so badly, then why not the offensive line? To ignore the need at offensive line is mind boggling to say the least and this team will not do it, I can guarantee you that. They had the oldest offensive line in the league last year and it showed. To be a top tier team, you need good line play. That was lacking. Sure Benson blew but so the line didn't help him, or Adrian, or little Wolfe. The whole city of Chicago jumped on Benson but the line was absolutely terrible and played bad on ALL fronts. Look at the moves the Bears have already made by cutting linemen. Does that not say anything to you? You surely must be kidding again to think that they won't address the line early in the draft. They didn't do it via free agency when everyone including myself thought they'd go after Faneca. To miss out again is something they cannot afford and they know it. I can see getting a back in later rounds but good offensive linemen are hard to find and this draft has some solid ones near the top, versatile ones that can play multiple positions which the Bears like. They will not pass that up.
Phillips is awesome, don't get me wrong. For as cool as it would be to see him come, I personally don't want the first pick to be used on ANOTHER defensive player. Tommie Harris reiterated the same thing today on the radio. He expects them to go offense in the first round. Didn't seem too informed but it's worth something.
This is a make or break draft for the Bears. It can set them up for a nice run where they might be able to get back to the SB and win or at least stay on top of the NFC. If they mess this draft up, the Bears will return to the cellar and Angelo will be thrown in the Chicago river.
