What are we learning after Saturday, November the 15th??

It's late, so a few quick hitters....

Excellent running by OSU tonight -- best I've seen from them this season.

Byu line made no sense to me. So I didn't bet the ML pregame. Still kicking myself.

Injury reports, across ALL sports, need to be addressed.

Credit Wisconsin for not quitting this year. Despite the final score, they play hard. That DL is damn good.

Michigan State looked like they quit late today. They play AT Iowa next week -- that could be brutal and then a "home" game at Ford Field vs Maryland.

Thank you ole miss for the late TT live cover by the hook.

Texas is officially eliminated, right?

Does the SEC get that 5th team in?

Our guy @HUNT said or earlier in a text or on here, and I agree ... The Big ten has some bad teams but they also have 3 of the top 6 teams.

Did Reed move into the pole position for Heisman with that comeback win!?

Nice win for USC. When Iowa led 14-0 and even 14-7 I definitely was feeling that the Trojans were on thin ice. I'm critical of Lincoln's soft ass teams in the past but this group is much tougher. Maiva was excellent and they grinded out some tough yards on the ground.

Duke defense is bad! We knew that, but I had to force myself to play UVA TT live and that cashed before the 3rd was over!

Okay, off to bed.

I'll start by posting two box scores....

Alabama played an excellent game yesterday apart from 5 critical mistakes. The 3 turnovers, the missed tackle on the punt return that turned into a 50 yard return, and the missed chip shot FG. Can't do that and expect to win. I said in my preview that OU's only chance was to play a cleaner game than Alabama, and that's what they did. Credit where it is due.

Oddly enough, even though Alabama will likely be the 5th SEC team in the rankings on Tuesday, they control their destiny. Beat AU and they are in the SEC Championship game. And if they get there, I think they are in win or lose, unless the committee wants to set a precedent that will be the end of conference championship games, which I wouldn't mind FWIW (ending champ games, not Alabama getting left out).

I'm still surprised Alabama lost yesterday. As mentioned above the turnovers were critical. The pick 6 was a 10 or 14 point swing. Alabama had 2 or 3 chances to make interceptions and it didn't do so. All credit to OU though. I'm still not sure how a semi-soft Horns team was able to push it around in the Cotton Bowl. I was surprised then, still surprised now.

I'm glad the Iron Bowl has even more relevance now. Looking forward to being there in person.

Not to sound bitter, ok maybe a little, on the pick 6, OU was lined up offsides and the DB made contact with the WR with the ball in the air. The refs were fine and pretty much let them play, so that's part of it. But I've noticed a pretty concerning trend around the country, not just our games, of DLs lining up offsides and refs not calling it. Seems like one of the easiest things to get right

That play calling, urgency, style, everything about it down the stretch is embarrassing for a program like that. That looked more like a Sun Belt spread offense up 40 milking clock. Waiting 35 seconds down points with 7 minutes left and essentially running out of time and never crossing mid field. Was the most pathetic coaching and management I’ve seen in some time. Taking a delay of game after an incomplete pass while they’re looking over at the sidelines waiting for a play call to come in.

Was the most embarrassing thing I’ve seen in football this year.

Coach is in over his head in the SEC.

I agree that it was probably the wrong tempo, but I think it was mostly a combination of being pinned deep in our own territory and the defense OU was playing.

I doubt it’s that he’s in over his head. End of game management used to be Kirby’s biggest weakness and he figured it out. I’m confident DeBoer will too

Texas has 77 yards rushing in its last three games, combined, against Georgia.

That such a coaching mismatch last night, especially in 2H. One of the major things I look at in said regard is penalties - just so tell-tale on preparation and how buttoned up your team is overall. Texas continues to be near the top in CFB with most penalties. Last night, 9. Georgia? One.

The game is six aspects, at least:

- coaching/gameplanning/adjustments
- pass game
- run game
- kicking game
- defense against pass game
- defense against run game

The OU Sooners won more of those aspects than they lost on Saturday in Tuscaloosa.

When you go on the road against a program and team/coach as good as Bama has, you must find ways to win and sometimes it is not pretty.

Unlike any school after FSU in game one, The Sooner Defense made Ty Simpson (who is a terrific college QB) look very uncomfortable in the pocket and they forced the shoddy play.

It had more to do with the OU D than anything else.

The ST's? We know how that went.

The bye week did tremendous things for our team and helped Mateer get healthy again.

I am so proud of the Sooners for that performance in an extremely tough environment yesterday against a very good team and coach.

Now, can they come back home and take care of business vs Misery and LS-Who?

I have no idea.

a few teams over the course of a season "might" have two backward passes recovered by the opposing team.
but the "#3" team can do it in one game. and win.

I admittedly did not see every play. I bet bama 2h -4.5 because I thought they were passing OK out of the stadium and 1h score was a fluke due to pick 6 and punt fumble.
But it seemed to me bama started running a lot on 1st and 2nd down with little success setting up 3rd down misses. But again I didn't see every play. Sometimes u just have to go Air Coryell on them. Long story short = I thought bama 2h play calling was awful.

First Iron Bowl?

I love that you've been to some killer games at some killer venues...

Maybe a thread someday listing them off and favorite parts of them.

In fact, that could just be a fun thread for anyone and everyone to share their experiences on GameDay at their home sites and in their travels.

Great idea with some stories / experiences to share.

Yeah, first time for the Iron Bowl. I'm a Bama fan but wanted to see it in Jordan-Hare thinking Auburn would be the dog and having the home crowd in its favor, etc. Watching games from there over the years seems like it's a great environment. `

I’m actually for both

You’re going to the right place, if you could only do it once.

Alabama was dominating (95% post game win expectancy), but the turnovers and special teams snafus were too much to overcome. OU deserves credit for capitalizing on the mistakes, and on the last drive they were willing to give Alabama the 3 and 4 yard gains while they played 3 safeties deep. Alabama was able to force Mateer into a few really bad throws that could have been pick 6s, but we didn't capitalize. It is what it is. Felt a lot like a Saban loss. That FSU loss is now a huge anchor, because the committee will probably use it to put Alabama behind Notre Dame tomorrow.

The stadium is a dump, but the campus is nice and the fans will certainly make it a great environment, especially if they keep it close. Very rarely does one team lose to the other if one is really good and the other really bad, but we needed miracles the last two times we were there to get out of there with a win. I'm hoping that was a Saban issue. We turned it over 5 times against them last year and still won pretty easily, but that won't be the case down there if we do that again

When a coach like Narduzzi tells you they don't care about their upcoming game believe them and take the other side. I had Notre Dame anyway but Narduzzi and his dopey comments had me doubling up on my bet.

Gonna look even worse when loses the 2 conference games too.

Talty bitching out the snapper was such a bad look. Holder got the ball down fine, just make the kick. Even with the OU finger tip the ball wasn't going to be good, or sure didn't look like it.
Maybe if Talty was any good, you could look past it. But he's been average at best and has not been asked to make any high anxiety kicks, so F him. Hope this is the last we see of him

What an experience in Tuscaloosa. Nothing better than watching a college football game at that stadium. Love the campus and love the people.
Couple of my buddies have their kids going to Bama. Yes, a weird connection in my area of SEMCON to Tuscaloosa;).

Anyways, they do one huge game each year to see the kids and enjoy the environment. They absolutely love it.

Seeing as you were there on Saturday, and I think you mentioned you do a game yearly -- what's the best environments you've made it to?

Yeah I was shocked they didn't dominate 2h. Like I said I thought 2h play calling was too conservative. They passed for 250 yards 1h I think. Thought they would keep that up. Why i bet 2h. I like Calen but think bama got outcoached 2h by Venables. All teams seem flawed this year. Interesting playoff.

I'd say on the surface that Venables definitely won the coaching matchup, but listening/watching to those who have access to the all-22, the plays were there to be made and we didn't execute at the level that OU did. This is only DeBoer's 4th season as a P4 head coach, so he's still learning on the job for sure. Given the situation he came into at Alabama, he couldn't afford to flip the roster so there is still some square peg/round hole personnel issues, especially on the OL. That's still on him and his staff to figure out, and I'd imagine you'll see us be more aggressive in the portal this offseason than last year

Kalen is doing just fine. That's an incredibly tough situation to come into after a legend.

The scrutiny is daily and more than anyone needs.

Credit to him.

This is the new CFB too -- less and less undefeated teams as these years go by.

He's not really on the hot seat, or anywhere close to it. The uncomfortable truth for most Bammers is that it was slipping under Saban too, but through his sheer will power we were able to make the playoff in 2023. That was not a good team

DeBoer is recruiting at an elite level, and the players love him. Obviously he needs to figure out some things when it comes to games against inferior opponents, but his record against teams that are ranked is exceptional.
