Goodbye to Romance College Football
AAC

62-28 Tulane and Tulsa was moved from a midafternoon game, then moved from a 12:00 to an 11:00 est start to beat weather and apparently Tulsa didn’t bother to show up. Tulane scored on first 7 drives and led 48-7 HT. Tulsa QB President was benched tailing 21-0. Luke Skipper came in and was 10-14-256-1-0 (sacked 3x). 653-412 TY (7.9-8.6) and 31-16 FD edges for Tulane. Tulsa was 0-7 on 3rd and 4th down conversions combined.

34-10 Temple had season highs in pts, total O, passing and rushing. Owls first 3 drives were missed FG, INT at the E2 and FG from the E12, but then closed the first half with 3 TDs. Later they would end the game at the E2. ECU only got past the Temple 48 once in the 2nd half. 24-15 FD and 523-287 TY (6.6-4.8). Owls were 14 of 20 3rd down, ECU was 3 of 14. Owl D 4 sacks.

48-45 Navy in a wild one! Navy built a 28-10 HT lead helped by some AF turnovers. Back-to-back fumbles led to 6p 41y and 2p 40y Navy TD drives. Those were the only TOs in the game, one was in the RZ and Navy got a big return out of it setting up the short field. Navy led 31-10 early 3rd qrt, but AF would score on all 6 of their 2nd half possessions and rally to a 45-41 lead on a 51y TD pass with 1:53 left. Navy would go 11p 75y in 1:38 converting a 4th down in the process and went back on top with a 16y TD pass :15 left. AF;s 621y (8.6) were 12th most program history, Navy accounted for 557 y (8.1). Worthman set a school record for 396 total O (257 pass, 139 rush). Abey 300y total O (86 pass, 214 rush). 93 combined pts were series record. The winner of this game has captured the Commander-in-Chief trophy every year since 1997.

35-22 Houston wins despite being out gained 544-463 (6.4-6.8). It was RZ efficiency that determined the game, SMU came away empty twice and settled for FGs. In the first half SMU kicked FGs from the H6, H19 and missed one from the H13 right before HT. In the second half SMU’s final two drives ended in INT’d at the H1 and H6. They were also SOD at the 34 on the drive before that (drop by Sutton). Hicks 41-58-397-1-2 (sacked 2x). Sutton 11r-160y, Quinn 17r-157y-TD. Postma 19-27-176-2-2 (not sacked). Catalon 22-181-2TD.

51-23 UCF wins in just 3qrt of play, a weather delay with :04 left in the 3rd was the only thing that could stop UCF. After a 1 hour delay the AAC called the game. UCF used big plays out of the gate a 54y and 79y TD passes for 13-0 lead. Cin got on the board with a 12p 82y TD drive. Big plays would continue for UCF as they built a 37-16 HT lead. UCF scored on all 8 possessions up until the weather delay. UCF had 515-391 (12.9-5.9) TY edge. Knights only faced 3rd down 4x and converted 3. Bearcats were 9 of 15 on their attempts. Cin was able to move the ball well on a good UCF D (came in allowing 309 avg), but a FG from the C8 and INT in UCF territory hurt their efforts to keep up. Frost complimented the Cin O. There was no compliments to be found for the Cin D.

ACC

28-14 Clemson led 28-0 early in the 4th, but led just 14-0 HT. 41% of WF’s yards came on their final 2 drives. WF converted two 4th downs on their final TD drive. Clemson finished at the WF 22 before they took a knee. Kendall Hinton got the start for WF, he does have plenty of experience. 14-30-203-2-0, led with 92y rushing. Wofford was available, but DNP with non-throwing shoulder injury. Bryant left with injury, before he was 21-29-200-1-1 added 39 rushing. Tigers 453-336 TY (5.1-5.2 ypp).

28-21 Virginia opened with a 58y pick-six, but Duke got their own 42y pick-six to tie 7-7. Duke led 14-7 HT. UVA would tie and take the lead on 6p 69y, 10p 79y and 13p 80y TD drives 28-14. UVA had to KO from their own 20 following a celebration penalty and Duke ran that back to the V12 and score 4p later to cut it to 7 with 6m left, but could get no closer. Jones struggled 14-42-124-1-2, rushed 36y (sacked 2x). Benkert 24-43-182-3-2 (sacked 1x). Duke LB Giles-Harris had 15 tkl w/ 3.5 TFL, a forced fum and sack. UVA 310-255 TY (3.8-3.4 ypp).

27-24 Syracuse opened the game kicking FG from P8, Pitt took lead on a Whitehead 35y run, but Pitt could only get FGs until the 4th qrt. Cuse built a 27-16 lead. Max Browne was knocked out and Dinucci took them 9p 75y with a 2pt to cut it to 3 w/ 7m left. Cuse drove 15p 70y eating 6-1/2m off the clock but were SOD at the P5. Pitt couldn’t get in position to tie however. Pitt was 0-10 3rd down until they finally converted their first midway through the 4th qrt and finished just 23%. Cuse didn’t start much better on 3rd down, but did finish better (40%). A week after Cuse utilized Ervin Phillips as their leading target, this week it was TE Ravian Pierce leading the way 9r-99y. Dungey 33-49-365-2-0, 48 rushing. Whitehead led Pitt in rushing with 73y. 26-16 FD and 500-358 TY (5.5-6.1 ypp) edges for Orange.

24-20 Miami never crossed midfield in the first half and trailed 0-3 at HT having just 57y offense. FSU was driving near the end of the 2nd qrt, but threw INT that replay upheld. In the 2nd H, after tying 3-3 Berrios had a big punt ret setting up a go-ahead Berrios TD reception (finished 8r-90y-2TD). FSU answered on a 6p 77y TD drive highlighted by a 46y Akers run. FSU kicked FG with 7m left for 13-10 lead. Berrios caught his 2nd TD for the 17-13 lead with 5m left. FSU came right back scoring a TD with 1:24 left and led 20-17. Rosier led Canes on a 9p 75y drive in 1:18 capped with a 23y pass to Langham and 24-20 lead with :06 left. It was just the second snap of the game Langham played. FSU 203-83 RY (4.7-2.9). UM 254-203 PY (43-60%). FSU 406-337 TY (5.7-4.6). UM D 4 sacks, FSU D 3 sacks.

33-10 Notre Dame wins with Ian Book at QB. Irish ran for 341 with Adams having 118 and McIntosh 124. Book 17-31-146-1-2, 45 rushing. 1 INT was in the red zone, the other INT set up NC for their only TD on a short field. Surratt 19-42-179-1-1, 32 rushing. ND 27-13 FD, 487-265 ty (5.5-3.8 ypp). ND ended the game at the NC7.

23-10 Virginia Tech led 17-3 at HT. Hokie could only manage 2 FGs in the 2nd half. VT kicked FGs from the B16 after a 50y drive, B11 after a 64y drive, B8 after a 26y drive and were also SOD at the B1 after a 45y drive. BC missed a FG and also were SOD at the V23 after a 56y drive and V22 after a 58y drive late. VT 431-344 TY (5.3-5.2 ypp). VT 66% completion, BC just 42%. VT was 8 of 20 3rd down, BC 2 of 15. BC D got 5 sacks, 3 by Landry who was injured in the game (possible ankle sprain?).

I'll post throughout the day. I leave for out of town Monday so whatever I don't get to today won't be up.

I think you were right s--k. Tulsa guys may like facing the option, but they are not very good at it.

It was the Tulane defenders that have been coached and mentally prepared to embrace the option. Tulsa has alot of problems.

Big Ten

45-16 Iowa capitalizes on Illinois mistakes taking a close game and blowing it open. Jeff George fumbled on the first play of the game, but Iowa gave it right back. ILL took the 3-0 lead with a 29y FG, Iowa went ahead 7-3 and tried an onside kick from the 50 due to penalty. Hawks recovered but were later SOD at IL14. ILL drove 9p 67y, but had a 14y TD pass called back by penalty and threw an INT in the EZ two plays later. It was tied 10-10 and later a 13-10 off a ILL 24y FG. Before the half Iowa faked a punt at the IL41 gaining 18y and would get a 5y TD pass with :08 left for a 17-13 Hawk lead. Defense led the way to start the 2nd half and ILL in position for the would-be go-ahead-score threw a 1st down INT at the IO11 that was returned all the way 89y for pick-six. 24-13 Hawks. ILL would drive back down and kick a 40y FG to cut it to a one score game. Iowa added a 39y TD pass to extend the lead to 31-16. ILL was SOD at the IO34 and Iowa got a 32y pass to Fant and 18y Wadley TD run midway through the 4th. 38-16. With 4m left ILL threw INT that was ret’d to the IL4 and 3 plays later Iowa pushed the score to 45-16. FD even 20-20. ILL outrushed them 200-191 (6.7-5.0) while Iowa outpassed them 250-246 (53-49%). ILL lost 4 TOs, Iowa lost 2.

31-7 Penn State continued NW’s offensive woes. After some dominant PSU 1st quarters this season, NW D limited them with a SOD, three-and-out and 21y FG for a 3-0 opening quarter. 10-0 HT PSU, but NW actually outgained them 166-146 in the first half. NW’s yards were for not as they threw INT’d twice, lost a fumble and were SOD all in PSU territory. Barkley was –1 rushing in the first half. He would eventually get going a bit. NW O was 3-and-out 6 of their first 7 2nd H drives, the other in that stretch was a 4-and-out. NW gained 80y on a TD garbage drive. They had 11y in the half before that. PSU 23-15 FD, 381-265 TY (4.8-3.6). Sacks and pressure were a problem for NW again as PSU got to them 4x (plus 7 hurries), but again PSU’s OL showed weakness as well allowing 5 sacks. NW D got 12 TFL, PSU 7. Two of NW’s best defenders, LB Fisher and S Igwebuike were ejected with 2nd half targeting calls.

31-17 Purdue used some late 4th qrt scores to pull away from a close game. Pur turned it over 4x in the first half, but Min only led 14-6 HT. Pur scored to open the second half 13-14, but then missed a 52y FG. They would later take the lead on a 19y FG. 16-14 before a long weather delay just into the 4th qrt. Min came out with a 7-1/2m drive and kicked a 38y FG to retake the lead 17-16. Pur got a big KO ret and were in the EZ 4p 56y later for the 24-17 lead (2pt good). With :11 left Pur added a 76y pick-six. Sindelar replaced Blough in the first half and he was 19-26-248-1-0. Rhoda 11-25-101-2-1. Min D got 4 sacks. 439-328 TY (6.8-4.6) for Boilers.

14-10 win gave Michigan State their 8th win vs UM in the last 10 games. UM opened 16p 64y with a 30y FG (2 of 3 3rd and 1 of 1 4th down on drive). MSU goes 3-and-out, but UM would fumble at their own 46 and aided by an unsportsman conduct pen, MSU would go 6p 46y TD on a 14y Lewerke rush. Early in the 2nd qrt Lewerke would go 5 of 5 passing and cap a 9p 83y drive with a 16y TD pass and 14-3 lead. UM advanced to the State 41 with a first down, but took a 14y sack and punted. Late in the 2nd qrt UM fumbled at the State 29 after a 36y reception with :31 left. MSU did not gain a single first down in the second half until their final drive where they were able to kill some clock. MSU punted twice from their own EZ to start the second half and UM were set up at the State 33 for their only TD drive of the game to cut it to 4 pts. INTs would end the next 3 UM drives. UM had a chance with :34 left starting at their own 20 they hit 15y pass, a 15y MSU penalty put them at midfield, but O’Korn’s pass to the EZ was incomplete although it had a chance to be caught. Pass protection continues to plague UM, O’Korn was sacked 4x which would’ve been more if he wasn’t able to evade other pressure. UM –5 TOs, MSU didn’t turn it over once.

38-17 Wisconsin pours it on in the second half. UW jumped out to a 7-0 thanks to a 78y deflected pick-six on Neb’s opening drive. They extended it to 10-0 on their first O possession. Neb D did a good job on them for most of the remaining first half. Neb drove to W16 but missed a FG. That’s two drives into the RZ with zero pts. Then with 1-1/2m left in the half, Neb hit Morgan on a deep cross to Morgan and he raced down the sideline for a 80y TD to make it a 7-10 game. UW pulled back momentum on the very first play Taylor broke a 75y TD run 17-7 Badgers. Neb was able to drive 11p 60y in the final minute to the W16 and a FG for 10-17 HT score (3 Neb drives into RZ = just 3 pts). On UW’s second possession of the 3rd qrt, Neb got a 15y pick-six to tie 17-17. From that point on UW would attempt just 2 more passes as they pounded Nebraska D into the ground on 93, 80 and 40y TD drives while Neb could only muster 56y on their final 3 drives. UW 19-16 FD, 466-381 TY (7.1-6.2), 353-110 RY (7.2-4.2), 37-23 TOP.

PAC 12

38-7 Washington smoothers Cal with 22-9 FD, 377-93 TY, 215-(-40) RY, 215-133 PY, 60-29% 3rd down conv edgs. Prior to their final drive of the game, Cal’s deepest penetration into UW territory was the W43 right before HT. Cal’s TD was a fumble rec D score. UW missed a FG from the 21 and made one from the 6. UW D recorded 8 sacks.

45-42 Arizona in a record setting day for back up QB Khalil Tate with 327 rushing yards for 23.4 avg on 14 att 4 TD. He was also 11-12-142-1-0 passing replacing starter Brandon Dawkins who was injured on the first series. Arz fumbled on their first and punted on their 4th possesion, other than that is was 6 TDs and a FG as CU could never keep up. Tate’s first rush was a 58y TD 7-0. CU tied 7-7, but Tate had a 28y TD run. 14-7. CU tied on a 19p 85y drive 14-14. Tate ran for 37y then hit a 13y TD pass to lead 21-14 taking the lead for good. CU missed a 50y FG right before HT. Tate had a 47y TD run to open the 3rd. 28-14. 15p 75y later CU cut it to 21-28. Tate had a 28y rush on their way to a 12p 75y TD drive. 35-21. CU got a 4th down 2y TD pass to get back within 7. Tate then busted a 75y TD run to extend the lead. CU again cut it to 7, but Tate hit a 60y pass enroute to a 24y FG and a 10 pt game with 8m left. CU cut it to a 3 pt game with 5m left. After converting one 3rd down, CU had Zona in 3rd and 7, but Tate broke a 31y run to the C17 where they took knees. 29-25 FD edge and 251-142 PY (59-89%) for CU. Arz 425-300 RY (9.9-5.2). Tate’s day overshadowed Philip Lindsay’s 41-282-3TD and 3r for 39y. Slight overall edge 567-551 TY (10.1-6.1) for Arz. Zona D got 4 sacks. CU was 4-of-4 on 4th down.

38-10 USC was sloppy and hazzy in the win. The opening drive went 8-78y for TD and 3-32y for another TD after a Beaver INT 6m into the game 14-0. USC muffed a punt, but Ore ST’s FGA was blk’d. Next possession Darnold fumbled a pass, Ore St recovered by their FGA missed (Darnold would fumble again in the 2nd H). A short SC punt set up Ore St on a short field, but they missed a wide open TD pass and third time was a charm on their FGA finally making a 33 yarder. 14-3 Trojans. Ore St advanced to the RZ next drive, but were SOD at the 13. Ore St found themselves in RZ later and fumbled at the 6. 26-16 FD and 512-319 TY (7.0-4.9) for SC.

33-10 Washington State holds Oregon scoreless after the first quarter. Ore only TD was set up off a 12y punt giving Ducks ball at W30. The only time Ore crossed midfield in the second half was on their final drive. 4 FGs for WSt along the way (3 from the RZ). Tr Fr Burmeister’s first career start went 15-27-1-2 (sacked 4x), ran 15 att for minus 4y. Freeman played, had 16y on his first run but finished 12-65. Falk 24-42-282-3-0 (also sacked 4x). WSt D got 11 TFL. Both teams poor on 3rd down.

23-20 Stanford holds of Utah late. Stan had an opening drive TD called back by illegal motion and settled for 21y FG. Teams traded TDs, then Utah’s drive stalled and they kicked a FG from the 12 to tie 10-10 with 3m in the half. Stan nailed a 46y just seconds before HT. Utah had a bad punt snap setting Stan up at the U15, but the Ute D again held tough in the RZ and Stan kicked a 29y FG 16-10 Cardinal. Utah got a FG after an 8m drive but Bryce Love popped a 68y TD run for the 23-13 lead with 12m left. Utah was driving, but was INT’d under pressure at the S16 a 1st down ill-advised deep throw. Utah was INT’d again the next possession. Utah started their final drive at their own 5 with 3-1/2m left. Utah benefitted from two 15y targeting penalties, one on 4th down that kept a 95y drive alive and Utes got a TD with :44 left. Stanford recovered the onside kick. Utah did have 25-14 FD with total yards even 384-382, Stan had 7.0-5.2 ypp. Utah –2 TOs. Kalambayi and Phillips were ejected on targeting and will miss the first half for Stanford next game.

Gotta take Illinois at home ?!

It is hard to trust Illinois. For all we know they could self destruct again. George isn't great at all, but does seem better than last year and the WRs are the best unit on the O so they need a QB that can get them the ball. Off a bye, I'm sure Rutgers is looking at this as a rare opportunity for a conference W. Last year Rut outgained and out first downed them but lost 5 TOs. ILL won and scored 24 pts with just 10 FD. That line was ILL-4 on the road and you say it is just -3 in Champaign this week? That says something. Not sure what but something. LOL.

Big Xll

65-19 Texas Tech led 21-0 and 35-10 HT. KU opened the 2nd half with a FG and TD (2pt no good) to make it 35-19, but that is as close as Jayhawks could get. TT fumbled on the K6, but KU fumbled it right back for a 20y fum rec TD 42-19. 603-368 (7.6-4.8) yardage edge for TT, including a 313-112 RY (6.0-3.4) RY advantage.

38-31 Iowa State shocked everyone in Norman. OU jumped out 14-0 with 81 and 72y scoring drives. ISU faced 3rd-and-10 when Kempt hit Montgomery on a little swing pass and he took it 46y. In comes Lanning for his first appearance on O. He moved the ball to the O11, but Kempt could not take them any further than a 25y FG. 14-3. OU also kicked a 25y FG then ISU drove inside the O5 with a 1st-and-goal and were stopped on 3rd down, but an OU personal foul gave them a 1st down and ISU scored next play. 17-10 Sooners. Mayfield capped a 75y drive with a 13y TD run to go back up by 14. With under 3m left OU used their timeouts to force ISU to punt, but OU would go 3-and-out giving ISU the ball back with just :26 left in the half. From their own 31 they weren’t happy to go to the locker room yet; Kempt connected on a deep throw to Hakeem the-Butler-made-me-do-it for 54y and ISU nailed a 32y FG to only trail 13-24. First half yards were 303-195 for OU. ISU got the ball to open the 3rd and they hit a 42y FG to make it a one score game. A critical moment in the game occurred on OU’s next drive at the I5 RB Sermon fumbled Lanning recovered. Clones would go 7p 94y aided by a PI call with a 28y TD pass, 2-pt good to tie 24-24. OU missed a FG and ISU had all the momentum. Another PI call on Jordan Thomas moved ISU to the 43, then Kempt hit Trever Ryen how outran everyone for a 57y TD and ISU led 31-24 a couple minutes into the 4th! OU would tie on a 10p 75y TD drive. ISU drove to the OU 25 and faced a 3rd-and-7, they threw to the EZ and Lazard caught a ball thrown over CB Thomas for the 38-31 lead with 2:19 left. OU gained 17y but their 4th down pass was incomplete and ISU took jubilant knees! In his first ever start Kempt 18-24-343-3-0 (sacked 1x). Lanning played 57 snaps at LB, 13 at QB and 8 ST. Lanning was 2-3-25 passing, 9-35 rushing and had 8 tkl with a sack and fum recovery. Mayfield 24-33-306-2-0 (sacked 2x), added 57 rushing with TD. OU 28-21 FD, 513-449 TY (7.4-7.6).

31-24 TCU won a back-and-forth second half. TCU’s P and ST were key. WV was backed up inside their own 6 four times in the first half and fumbled a punt setting up a 33y TD drive to lead 7-3. WV had a 237-126 first half yard edge, but due to field position couldn’t make much of it. TCU opened the 3rd qrt with 10 pts turning a WV INT and good return into a 45y TD pass to lead 17-3. But WV hit Sills for a 64y TD when TCU blew a coverage and then came back with a 76y TD pass to White who beat his coverage and outran the D. 17-17 late in the 3rd. But TCU answered on when Turpin took a reverse and threw back to Hill on a well designed play that went 48y for the 24-17 lead. TCU’s punted from their own 15 and WV was set up at midfield. It was 4th-and-4 at the 26 and Grier found White for 11y and WV scored 3 plays later to tie the game 24-24 with 10m left. TCU converted a 4th-and-1 on their way to a 13p 65y TD drive for 31-24 lead 3m left. WV D had INT’d Hill, but replay ruled he did not control the ball. After that Frog TD WV converted 4th-and-5, and on the next play had a gain to the T35, but OPI was called brining the ball back to the W25 and their eventual 4th-and-18 pass was incomplete. TCU ran the ball twice getting to the W20 before taking a knee. WV 28-16 FD, 508-406 TY (6.0-6.2).

40-34 Texas in double OT. KSt picked off Ehlinger on the first play leading to a 54y Cat FG. UT SOD at the 3 and KSt would drive 97y TD thanks to a 82y catch and run for a 10-0 lead. The 2nd qrt saw 35 pts and UT took a 21-17 lead into HT and added a FG in the 3rd. 24-17. Ertz was injured midway through the 3rd and Alex Delton, who is a very limited passer, would QB the rest of the game for KSt and Cats scored the next 10 pts to lead 27-24. UT missed a 27y FG after a 73y drive with 6m left. But after a KSt 3-and-out, UT tied on a 34y FG with 1:32 left, but after getting the ball back witih :32 left and driving 6p 39y UT missed a 45y att at the end of regulation. UT scored on the first play of OT and K St ran 3 straight times for their tying TD. 34-34. KSt was called for holding on back-to-back plays and were forced to attempt a 53y FG which hit the upright. Texas didn’t want to settle for a FG again as Warren smashed it in from 2 yards out and 40-34 final. Texas edges 32-16 FD, 546-394 TY (6.0-6.4). KSt was just 2 of 11 3rd down while UT converted 53%. UT was in the RZ 7x and got 3 TD and 2 FG. Ehlinger 30-50-380-2-1 and led Horns in rushing with 107y.

It's getting late in the week I know, but I plan to get some more up tonight and tomorrow.

MAC

20-15 Toledo hands EMich it's third consecutive one possession loss. EM held Tol to half their 2017 scoring avg (came in avg 42.6 ppg) thanks to Rocket RZ issues. UT had a 1st-and-goal to start, but a sack forced a FG. EM advanced into FG range, but missed a 50y FGA (announcer Jay Feely said it was good on air, it was badly missed wide right). UT got to the E11, but again had to settle for a FGA, which was missed. EM went 80y drive (aided by PI and trick play) for a TD (xpt no good). 6-3 EM. Punts. UT goes 11p-78y but again stalled in the RZ this time a FGA from the 18, and missed again. UT finally got a TD before HT 10-6. UT appeared to have a TD in the 3rd, but replay ruled down at the 1 and they would be SOD there. They would find the EZ midway through the 3rd for the 17-6 lead. EM managed a 46y FG to cut it to 9-17. UT advanced to the EM31, but back-to-back sacks forced a punt (which went 7 yards). EM would later score a TD and initially made the 2pt conv, but replay overruled so the score was 17-15 Rockets. After an INT UT had 1st-and-goal, but again had to settle for a FG making the score 20-15. On EM's final drive late in the 4th they were advancing, a run to the T32 was called back due to a hold and next play a UT DB jumped a route for the game ending INT at the T31. UT had 7 trips into the RZ but only netted 2 TDs and 2 FGs. UT 419-326 TY (5.5-5.2), 130-73 RY (3.1-3.2), 35-25 TOP. UT was 4 of 15 3rd down, but EM was only 1 of 11. Woodside 23-34-289-0-0, Roback 23-39-226-2-2. EM D had 4 sacks.

26-23 Central Michigan upsets Ohio in a misleading final. Ohio had leads of 7-0 and 14-7, but CM scored 19 straight sparked by a blk’d 50y FG att ret’d for TD as time expired in the 2nd qrt. It was 26-14 4th qrt, when Ohio blk’d a punt for a safety and then went 7p 65y for TD to make it a 3 pt game, but CM converted three 3rd downs (1 aided by PI) to kill the final 5 minutes. CM TE Tyler Conklin made his season debut and he delivered with 10r-136y-2TD! Ohio 350-317 TY (5.0-4.8), 190-68 RY (4.9-2.2). CM 249-160 PY (71-55%). Ohio 67-42% 3rd down conv, but missed a FG and was also -3 TOs (3 fumbles all by QB Rourke) – only 1 Ohio TO led to pts, a 2p 35y CM TD drive.

37-29 Bolwing Green upsets Miami Oh in misleading final. BG led 30-29 with under 2m left in the game. Mia had driven 7p 70y and were 1st-and-goal at the 1, but fumbled and it was ret’d 93y for BG TD! With just 1-1/2m left Mia still drove to the BG27 but had 4 straight incompletions. Twice Mia had drives inside the BG 10 yard line that ended in turnovers. Mia 37-26 FD, 612-505 TY (7.0-7.5 ypp), 36-24 TOP. Ragland was injured in the 3rd he was 16-26-255-2-1, 78 rushing 1TD. Bahl replaced him 8-17-119-0-0. Morgan 11-25-222-3-1. BG did have two 100y rushers and WR Redding caught 8-197-2TD.

31-3 Akron holds Ball State to 3 pts on 3 RZ trips. Ball St kicked a FG from the 11, SOD at the 1 and after a 1st and goal at the 5 eventually were sacked on 4th down. Ball St 22-19 FD and were only outgained by 7 yards with Zips having a 383-376 TY (6.2-4.2) yard edge. Zips D got 5 sacks, BSU 2. BSU was -3 TOs.

24-3 Northern Illinois beats Kent in a game featuring strong D or bad O. Kent went on a 2nd quarter 10p 89y drive but a TD run was overruled and they kicked an 18y FG. Kent finished the game with just 131 yards! NIU only had 266. Kent lost 4 TOs, NIU 3. Kent was 2 of 16 on 3rd down, NIU 5 of 17. NIU D got 6 sacks, Kent got 3. QB Santacaterina started, but was replaced with Childers.

71-68 Western Michigan in 7OT. It was 31-31 at the end of regulation. WM got a 66y TD run to lead 7-0. UB hit a 72y pass, but fumbled at the 3 and WM recovered. WM led 10-0 when UB got a 64y TD pass. 10-7. After a punt UB drove 11p 70y to take the 14-10 lead still in the 1st qrt. WM would go 11p 90y to retake the lead 17-14. WM was later INT’d in the EZ. 17-14 HT Broncos. UB missed a 51y FG to open the 3rd and WM went 7p 65y to extend the lead 24-14. WM was later SOD at the B22. In the 4th UB hit 19 and 53y passes on their way of a 7p 96y TD drive. 24-21 Broncos. After a WM punt UB hit a 54y TD pass to take a 28-24 lead. WM would come right back 8p 65y for TD. 31-28 WM. With 4-1/2m left UB started at their own 18 and would go 9p 65y for a 34y FG to tie. With just :27 left, WM was sacked on their first play, but were still able to get to the B35, but their would-be game winning FG was blk’d. I don’t feel like recapping the 7 OTs.

17-16 LSU wins on missed extra pt. After two UF punts, on their second possession LSU went 11p 86y for 7-0 lead on a 30y Gage jet-sweep rush (Gage ran an end-around the other direction previous play). LSU was 2-for-2 on 3rd down, they actually converted 3rd-and-10 twice since an O targeting call negated the first, but they converted again and UF was called for D holding on the second 3rd down. Late in the 2nd qrt UF went 11p 70y to the L4, but kicked a short FG. 7-3. LSU responded with a 9p 54y drive to kick a 38y FG just before HT. 10-3 Tigers. Each team only had the ball 4x in the first half (not counting UF’s 1p possession before HT). LSU owned a 204-138 yard edge. LSU opened the 2nd half with a deep 46y throw to Chark, it was nearly an INT actually may’ve been, but when the refs got there they ruled simultaneous possession and LSU snapped the ball quick before replay could rule on it. On 3rd down from the 2 LSU threw a TD to lead 17-3. On UF’s next drive Perine broke a 23y run and a late hit out of bounds moved the ball to the L16. 3 rushes later UF had a TD to trail 10-17. LSU punted and UF went 9p 76y aided by a PI call. After a Perine 1y TD run the xpt was missed after a tough snap and bad hold! So LSU clung to a 17-16 lead that lasted as there were no scores in the 4th qrt. Both teams were backed up deep in their own terr in the final qrt and neither could move it across midfield. UF’s final drive was SOD at their own 25 and LSU ran 3x killing the remaining 1-1/2 minutes. LSU 18-16 FD, 341-302 TY (5.3-5.6) and 216-194 RY (4.5-5.1). Etling 19-16-125-1-0 added 26 net rushing. Franks 10-16-108-0-0. Gators did use a ‘wildcat’ QB Kadarius Toney 6 rushes 52y (no pass att). LSU D got 5 sacks.

27-19 Alabama not sharp and lets A&M hang around. Bama went three-and-out 3x in the first half and couldn’t capitalize on some good field position twice Bama started at the 50, but had to punt. They missed a 50y FG and made a 34y. The TD was a 75y Harris run. AM’s longest drive was just 37y, they lost 2 fumbles and also fumbled on a KO that they recovered which kept them pinned at their own 1. It was 17-3 HT and 24-3 early 3rd, but Bama O didn’t do much for the rest of the second half – their final 4 possessions gained just 63y not counting the last one with kneel downs. AM outgained them 183-135 in the second half. AM moved it 8p 36y for TD following Bama fum. Trailing 10-24 Fitzpatrick INT’d a pass at the 1, but AM would blk the punt for a safety. Bama couldn’t convert on 3rd-and-2 and were forced to punt with 2m left. AM drove 7p 64y in 1:52 for a TD to make it 27-19, but the onside kick was recovered by Bama. FD even at 16, Bama 355-308 TY (5.4-4.5) and outrushed them 232-71 (5.3-1.8). Hurts 13-22-123-1-0 (sacked 3x) and rushed for 56 net w/ TD. Mond 19-29-237-1-1 (sacked 4x) rushed for 14 net (long of 20) w/ TD. Neither team did much on 3rd down conv 29-21%.

40-34 Kentucky had leads of 13-0 and 20-7, but allowed MU to tie at 27-27 and later 34-34. UK capitalized off a Lock sack/fumble and went 3-19 for TD then later kicked FGs from the M3 and M17 following long drives to get out early. MU missed a FG then went 7-78 for their TD which UK answered right back with a 71y Snell TD run. After some punts, right before HT Lock hit Hall on a 58y TD pass to trail just 14-20 HT. First half yards were UK 260 - MU 206. MU kicked a 27y FG to open the 3rd, then got an INT, but MU fumbled it back next play. UK went 9-66 to extend the lead 27-17. MU would score on their next 2 possessions, a 48y pass to the 1 then TD and 25y FG. 27-27 end of the 3rd. UK hit a 64y TD pass to get back in front, but MU answered with a 75y TD pass to tie again. UK kicked 53y FG and MU had their 45y FG blk’d with 6m left. UK hit some passes to get deep in MU territory then ran to kill some clock, they settled for a 20y FG to lead by 6 with under 2m left. MU drove to the K27, tackled in bounds with 21s left. WR was going to give the ball to the ref as everyone races to the line to clock the ball and a UK player knocks the ball out of said receiver’s hand. The ref ever so slowly walks to get the ball, tick tick tick, and Lock spikes it with just :03 left. Their final pass to the goal line was incomplete. The SEC issued a statement that the refs missed the ball being knocked from the MU player, and it should’ve been stopped at that moment (16 seconds) and then started again on a ready to play signal. Oh well, sorry MU sucks to be you. MU 24-22 FD, 568-486 TY (7.5-6.4). UK had allowed 74 rushing ypg coming in, MU ran for 213 (6.5). And MU nearly doubled the ppg UK had been allowing (18.8).

LT would score the next 10 pts, UAB missed a FG then made one 16-10 Blazers. UAB was SOD at the LT23, but still led 16-10 HT. UAB missed another FG and LT scored TD in the 4th, but missed the xpt game tied 16-16. Following a LT punt, and personal foul penalty, UAB went 11p 56y for 23-16 lead. LT answered right back 7p 67y, but they missed another xpt and trailed by 1. LT started their final drive with 2m left and were at the UAB 12 with :03 left. UAB blocked they 30y att to hang on for the upset. Holtz told the K to kick it like a sandwedge, to loft it up there, but it was more of a line-drive and 6-7 tall Stacy Keely got the blk. FD, TY, 3rd downs all essentially even, just missed kicks and penalties. UAB was 1 of 3 FG and 2 of 3 xpts, LT was 1 of 2 FG and just 1 of 3 xpts. SM missed a FG to open the 3rd qrt, but their D got an INT ret’d 61y and it sparked SM as they would score 21 straight pts including 48 and 89y single play TD strikes. UTSA cut the lead to 20-28 and then following a SM fumble added a FG matched by a SM FG. 31-23 Eagles. UTSA took over with 2m left at midfield thanks to a good KO return.
