AAC

61-31 USF was forced to punt once in the 1st qrt, but 3 plays later they got a 43y pick-six to lead 21-10. ECU did cut it to 24-31 HT as they risked running a play with :04 left from the 2 with no timeouts and they scored a TD. Was just 38-31 USF mid 3rd, but Bulls would score the final 23 pts. USF gained 575 total yards (8.1 ypp), good news for ECU that is the fewest total yards they’ve allowed this year. ECU racked up 414 TY (5 ypp).

20-13 Houston with Kyle Postma at QB. Postma threw an INT in the 1st qrt, but PI was called on Owls and UH would score next play for 7-0 lead. Later Owls would force a fumble at the 9, but UH recovered and got a FG 3 plays later 10-0. Owls were driving but threw an INT at the UH7. UH would have a 1st-and-goal at the 9, but had to settle for another short FG. 13-0. Teams would trade INTs before HT. UH had 248-109 yardage edge at half. The opposite was true in the 2nd half, after UH took the opening possession 85y for TD they only gained 61y on their final 4 possessions. Meanwhile Owls scored 13 straight pts, but too little too late, their final 2 drives were SOD at own 42 and INT’d on their final clock expiring drive. UH 388 (5.8) - 324(4.1) TY. Postma 25-36-226-1-1 and 81 rushing (leading rusher). Marchi 20-41-182-1-3.

31-21 Navy comes on late. It was a rough start for Navy with a blk’d FG from the T8 and a fumble at the T36 at the end of a 41y run. Navy’s first 4 possessions were empty while Tulsa went 75y and 89y on two of their first three drives to open a 14-0 lead. Then Navy D put the clamps down, Tulsa would gain just 48y on their next 7 possessions combined. Mids got it going and scored 31 unanswered. At that point in the game with 8:47 left Tulsa QB President was just 4 of 9 passing for 17y. He would finish 12-18-115-1-0 and lead the team with 12 att 151 rushing yards with a TD. Abey was 3-4-90-0-0 passing and also led in rushing 36-185-3TD.

49-28 SMU, Ponies led 21-10 HT, but early in the 4th qrt it was tied 28-28. SMU answered with a 34y TD pass, then a blk’d punt setting up another TD, then UConn was SOD at their own 25 and SMU added a TD run the next play for a quick 21-0 run. UConn’s final 3 drives netted only 14 yards on 12 plays. SMU D has been playing in the backfield a lot this year and they recorded 8 sacks here! Shirreffs was 22-28-408-2-0 passing, but UConn would net minus 8 rushing yards. SMU ran for 218. Hicks 22-37-290-4-0. Quinn and Sutton each went over 100y receiving.

38-21 Marshall led 24-0 HT. TY for the game were even...366-349 (4.7-4.9) slight edge Herd, but Mar benefited from 3 UC TOs resulting in easy 1p 15y TD, 1p 31y TD "drives". The teams traded fumbles to open the game, but all told Mar got 21 pts off UC TOs. It wasn’t all turnovers though, UC’s O was M.I.A. to open the game. Bearcats had just 3 first downs on 21 plays run in the first half (Marshall had more pts than Cin had run plays). Marshall has had 4 different leading receivers in 4 games, tonight it was TE Yurachek 6-77-3TD.

40-13 UCF dominates. It was just 9-7 early 2nd qrt when Mem downed a punt at the CF9, after a 5y penalty Adrian Killins would take it 96 for a TD and the rout was on. That was the longest play from scrimmage in UCF history. Mem did lose a fumble on a sack from the CF5, INT’d on a deep throw at the CF19, INT’d at the CF9, INT’d at the M40, sacked on 4th and goal from the CF2. Mem scored a TD as time expired in the game. UCF had 27-25 FD, 603-396 TY (7.5-5.4 ypp), 350-75 RY (7.1-3.1 ypc), Mem outpassed them 321-253.

CUSA

43-28 North Texas shut out SMiss in the 4th qrt and outscored them 26-7 in the 2nd half. But early NT trailed 0-14 and 7-21, but cut it to 17-21 at HT. NT edges 24-18 FD, 540-415 TY (6.2-5.8 ypp), 366-270 PY (8.9-6.4 ypa), 174-145 RY (3.8-5.0 ypc). SMiss D did account for 13 TFL. NT QB Fine 24-40-366-2-1, RB Wilson 30-148-3TD, WR Guyton 14-211-TD. SM QB Griggs 19-42-270-1-0, 26 rushing. RB Smith 13-102-2TD, WR Staggers 5-112-TD. NT is 2-0 in conference play for first time since 2004.

34-16 LaTech scored games final 17 pts. USA got out 7-0, but LT would answer back and lead 17-7. LT started fast amassing 212y in the 1st qrt, but would only have 78y in the 2nd and 3rd qrts as USA was able to battle back. USA kept LT pinned back deep in their own territory. LT found their O again, clinging to a 17-16 lead in the 4th, LT went 7p 90y TD and then 11p 77y FG to lead 27-16 and then with 3:24 left USA was SOD a their own 27 and LT scored another TD on the next play. Earlier USA did throw an INT in the RZ and LT missed a 43y FG in the game. LT edges 26-16 FD, 479-333 TY (6.7-5.0 ypp), 317-235 PY (62-47%), 162-98 RY (4.9-4.5), 33-18% 3rd down.

38-20 FAU didn’t turn it over once, while MT lost 3. MT once again was without QB Stockstill, WR James, but also a starting DL and DB. FAU built a 14-6 and 24-6 lead at HT. MT QB Urzua threw 3 INTs in his 31-51-359-2-3 effort. Driskel 22-29-187-1-0. Singletary 24-133-4TD. MT did have 454-439 (6.0-5.6) TY edge.

30-29 FIU as they rally back from 19 down. It was a strong ground game propelling Char to a 26-14 HT lead. Char rushed for 272y 1st half, but could only get 72y rushing in the 2nd. It was 29-27 Char in the 4th when FIU kicked a 27y FG for the lead. Char had plenty of time for their final drive, but started at their own 2. They converted a 4th-and-6 near midfield and set up for a 48y FG, which they missed with :32 left. FIU did have 53-31% 3rd down conv edge. Char 23-20 FD, 504-475 TY (6.5-7.0) and outrushed them 349-234 (7.1-5.7). FIU 241-155 PY (8.9-5.5 ypa), each about 56% completions. QB Klugh and Lemay each topped 100y rushing for Char.

35-21 Army after a slow start. UTEP took a 7-0 lead on a 15p 81y 8-1/2m drive. Army did not have a first down in the 1st qrt. It was tied 14-14 at HT. Army O jumped out in the 3rd qrt with big plays to take a 28-14 lead while UTEP was going three-and-outs. Army stretched the lead to 35-14 early 4th. UTEP would get back on the board with a TD, converting 4th-and-4, but the TD was called back due to a hold and their 4th-and-14 att failed. Leading 35-14 with 6m left UTEP got a 52y pick-six off a backup Army QB. After an onside kick att, Army would end the game at the UTEP 10. Army QB Bradshaw was effient passing for a change 3-5-80-1-0 and rushed for 93. FB Davidson led them in rushing 14-100-TD. UTEP QB Metz was reinjured on the opening drive and replaced by Greenlee 7-13-88-1-0. In just his second game RB Wadley 28-156-TD. Army edges: 22-16 FD, 433-262 TY (7.6-4.8 ypp), 353-152 (7.1-4.1 ypc)...UTEP only outpassed them 110-80 (6.1-11.4 ypa).

Big Xll

33-20 Kansas State after a BU comeback attempt. Baylor started slow trailing 3-20 with just 80y of offense at HT (just 10y rushing), while KSt moved it for 229y. BU did get the ball at the K14 off a fumbled punt return, but following a sack, KSt would blk the 44y FG att. Baylor O and D would play much better in the 2nd H. A fake punt moved them for a 3rd qrt 27y FG. 6-20. Then fr RB Lovett broke off a 74y TD run. 13-20. The comeback stalled on a bad snap, a 20+y loss and a fumble recovery by KSt deep in Bear territory and KSt added a TD 27-13. But Bears would strike back on a 70y Mims TD reception 20-27 with 13m left. KSt added two FGs, the last off a bad punt snap that KSt got at the B17. Mostly BU used big plays for their pts, KSt used BU mistakes and field position for theirs Cats - 18y drive following good punt return, 14y drive following fumble rec, 11y drive following bad punt snap = 13 pts. KSt made FGs of 37, 21, 49 and 23y. BU made FGs of 38 and 27y. FDs even, BU 375-344 TY (5.3-5.7 ypp), 291-119 PY (59-41%). KSt 225-84 RY (5.2-3.1). 3 sacks for KSt D, each team about 34% 3rd down.

41-34 Oklahoma State holds TT 200y below their average. Lots of short FGs (and misses). TT got a 95y pick-six when Rudolph overthrew a receiver in the RZ. 7-7. OSUmissed 22y FG and TT took 14-7 lead. OSU goes 75 and 88y for TDs and 21-14 lead. TT has 1st down at 2, but has to kick 24y FG with :00 left HT. 21-17 OSU. OSU opens with a 75y TD drive 28-17, then blks a punt but has to settle for a 22y FG 31-17. TT again has 1st and goal at the 3, but has to settle for 26y FG. OSU also kicks a 27y FG now leading 34-20. TT punches a TD to open the 4th qrt to trail by 7, then kicking off from the 50 due to an OSU facemask penalty, TT attempts and recovers an onside kick, but TT threw an INT. After a punt, TT went right down for the tying TD, 34-34. OSU went 11p 73y, but would miss their 2nd short FG of the night, this one a 18y att. TT was forced to punt back and this time OSU went 6p 79y with a Rudolph 16y TD run for the 41-34 lead and final when TT’s 4th down pass was incl with :18 left. OSU edges 32-25 FD, 597-384 TY (7.3-5.3), 376-330 PY (73-63%, 9.9-7.2 ypa), 221-54 RY (5.0-2.1 ypc). TT WR Keke Coutee was injured in 3rd qrt. OSU RB Justice Hill had career high 164y.

Big Ten

56-0 Ohio State. RU only crossed midfield once in the first half, a drive which ended in an INT. They tried a FG with :43 left from the O14 to avoid the shutout but missed (K not iced by Coach Urban Meyer). OSU did alternate 3-and-out / TD on their first 6 drives, then scored back-to-back TDs to lead 35-0 HT. Weber returned to action with 10 att for 44y and 3 TD. Dobbins had a 34y run as part of his 6 att for 53y and 3rd teamer McCall got 11 att for 103y. Barrett chipped in with a 37y rush as part of 89y rushing plus 14-22-275-3-0 passing. All OSU reserves got plenty of work again this week. 628-209 TY (9.2-3.1ypp) edge for OSU. 136 of those yards for RU came on their final 4 drives. OSU D was only able to get 1 sack however. Bolin started, but tr fr QB Jonathan Lewis got some work and he threw 2 INTs for the only TOs of the game (better runner than thrower).

17-10 Michigan St hangs on after jumping out 14-0 early. Iowa ran for just 19y on 25 att, their lowest output in 12 years (Wadley had 30y). Iowa had 6 first half possessions, one went 10p 72y for a TD, but on their other 5 drives they netted only TWO yards. MSU was a little uneven with their O as well, but great field position following Iowa 3-and-outs worked to their benefit (two scoring drives started at I31 and I36). The game was 17-7 3rd qrt when Iowa lost back-to-back TOs in MSU territory. They successfully faked a 4th down FG/audible punt formation pass, but that drive ended in when Stanley fumbled the ball before he threw at the M5. Iowa would stop MSU on downs at the I30 and then Hawks drove to the M38 with a first down, but fumbled after a catch. Later MSU would miss a FG and Iowa made one. 17-10. Iowa had :45 for their final possession, but couldn’t do anything. Lewerke 18-28-212-2-0 (sacked 2x), led in rushing again with 42y. RB Scott 14-32y. WR Davis 9-114-2TD. Stanley 16-31-197-0-0 (sacked 3x). MSU 19-11 FD, 300-231 TY (4.4-4.1 ypp).

will add more later...

45-14 Penn State, but not the one-sided blowout that might be expected. PSU ran the opening KO back for TD and PSU was the beneficiary of 4 IU TOs (or 5 essentially because IU roughed the punter once keeping a PSU scoring drive alive). IU’s second play was an 18y run, but RB was stripped and PSU got a fumble at I38. 6 plays later it is 14-0. Teams traded punts, but IU’s super PR Harris was tackled (awkward and injured) and fumbled, scoop-score...21-0 PSU 6:34 left in opening quarter. The afore mentioned roughing the punter call kept a PSU drive going and they got a TD for a 28-0 lead still 1st qrt. IU owned the 2nd qrt with a 146-22 yard edge scoring 14 pts. 28-14 HT Nit. IU had 209-145y edge. The O went away for Hoosiers in the 2nd half. In the 3rd qrt IU possessions ended in INT, punt, fum while PSU got a FG and TD, but the TD was called O PI, refs talked about it and picked up the flag (wink wink). IU was SOD at P37, later with about 4m left PSU would cap a 5p 73y drive with an 18y Barkley to Hamilton TD pass. 45-14. PSU did miss or have blk’d 2 FGs. Both Lagow and Ramsey played ok in 1st half, not so in the 2nd, Ramsey went whole 2nd half. Combined 15-32-175-1-1 (sacked 1x). McSorley 29-36-315-2-1 (sacked 5x). Barkley 20-56-0 rushing, 4-51-0 receiving, KO TD, TD pass. Hamilton 9-122-3TD. IU LB Scales 11 tkl w/ 3 sacks. PSU LB Cabinda 14 tkl w/ sack and fum recovery. Many stats even. Due to sacks PSU ran for just 1.1 ypc (IU 3.8).

33-24 Wisconsin dominated by more than score shows. NW D was very active early, forcing fumbles and knocking balls loose. NW D got a fum rec on the first play at W24, but had to settle for FG 3-0. Sacks and QB pressure would be a MAJOR story of the day. UW first sack on 3rd down set up great field position following the NW punt. UW went 7p 47y for 7-3 lead. NW was INT’d early 2nd qrt, but it was on 4th down and like a punt to the W12. UW gave INT back, but NW near midfield couldn’t do anything. Following UW punt NW would go 12p 44y for TD eating up nearly 7m with a 4th down conv and lead 10-7. UW threw another INT before HT, but nothing lese happened. 10-7 HT. To open the 3rd NW had 1st down at 50, but a 15y pen (chop blk? memory) and then 11y sack saw them punt from the N27. The only big O play of the game occurred on this UW drive a 61y pass to the 11 and TD next play, Badgers were in front 14-10. The game was quickly unraveling on NW now. Sacked again on 3rd down, following punt and 15y penalty UW set up at N38 and 4p later UW had a 21-10 lead. In the 4th UW had 1st and 10 at 11, but NW D held to a 23y FG. 24-10. NW would then throw pick-six (pressure) and Badgers led 31-10. Things got a little easier for NW here, they went 13p 75y converting 4th down and aided by two D PI (one on 3rd and 16) to cut it to 14-31 with 5m left. NW recovered the onside kick, but was offside and lined up for onside again, but Fitz audibled and they kicked deep, UW didn’t field it until back at the W6. UW went 3-and-out then after the punt NW goes 7p 55y for 24-31 game. UW recovers onside kick, but NW forces punt and with 1:09 left at their own 2 NW had a chance to tie. Nah, on just the second play Thorson rolled out in the EZ and DCota Dixon rushed up to sack him for a safety. It was a game that NW played well enough in the first half, but the second half revealed the true colors of both teams. 306-244 TY (5.4-3.1 ypp) for UW. Badger D recorded 8 sacks, their most since 2001. NW did get decent pressure on Hornibrook as well, but nothing close to UW D. TE Fumigalli DNP.

31-24 Maryland behind 262 RY against the former #1 ranked Gopher run D. With a week of practice as the starter Bortenschlager and the entire Terp team responded off the UCF blowout. Mary led 7-0 and while tied 3x they would never trail. Mary was even SOD at the 1 to open, but would score on their next drive that included a 22y reception on 4th-and-10 from the Mn30. Min tied, then threw INT at the UMD5. Mary went 11p 92y aided by PI on 3rd down for 14-7 lead. They traded FGs before HT. 17-10. Min missed FG, but after UMD punt went 8p 59y to tie 17-17. It was tied 24-24 with just 4m left. Mary broke a 34y TD run with 1m left for 31-24 lead. Rhoda was INT’d 3 plays later. 416-309 TY for Terps (5.5-5.4 ypp). Min Brooks and Smith were held to combined 74y rushing.

28-6 Nebraska. Neb racked up 411y to ILL’s 199. Neb D got 5 sacks. It was 21-3 HT, Neb only had 3 possessions and scored on all 3 with Tanner Lee going 11-13-167-2-0 in the half (full game 17-24-246-3-0 sacked 2x) Twice ILL had 1st and goal, but had to settle for short FGs. ILL would gain just 46y on 4 2nd half possessions. RB Ozigbo and WR Morgan both had career highs. ILL’s best player may’ve been their punter with 3 of 5 punts downed inside the 20.

42-10 Pitt in a welcome step down in competition. However, the run game struggled again with primary RBs Moss 22y (1.9) and Ollison 17y (2.8.) putting up surprisingly low numbers. Whitehead lead with his 1 rush for 24y. The passing game finally got going with Browne 28-32-410-4-0 (sacked 3x). Pitt would’ve scored on their first 5 drives, but they fumbled at the 1 on their 4th possession. With a 28-0 HT lead, Rice got most of their years in the 2nd half. 479-277 (7.1-5.0) TY edge for Pitt, 55-31% 3rd down. Each team had 3 sacks.

33-7 GT as UNC only avoided a shut out by scoring TD with about 5m left (Heels did miss 2 long first half FGs). GT’s first score was a 9m 18p 90y drive for 7-0 lead. A 2nd qrt FG drive of 17p 74y went for FG and just a 10-0 HT lead. GT did lose 2 fumbles, the first the D got back for them off a NC INT, the other fumble kept pts off the board at the goal line. NC threw 2 INTs (1 Surratt, 1 Harris – it was Harris’ only att of game). GT edges 22-11 FD, 456-247 TY (6.0-4.3), 403-106 RY (6.1-4.1), 39-21 TOP. UNC did have the passing advantage but just 141-53 (56-50%, 5.3-4.4 ypa).

33-25 NC State jumped out early to lead 26-7 HT. It was a FG from the 8, 31, three TDs (70, 75y and 83y drives) and a 31y FG miss in the first half for the Pack. It was 377-189 1st half yard edge for NCSt. Cuse did cut the lead to 17-26 in the 3rd while NC St gained just 20y on their 3 opening possessions of the 2nd half before going 10-65 for TD. 33-17. Off a big 4th qrt punt return Cuse got a late 33y TD drive, NC St recovered the onside kick and ended the game at the Cuse 29 taking knees. Syracuse WR Ervin Phillips broke school and ACC records with 17 receptions. He found himself defended by a LB often which Cuse repeatedly exploited (8-106 first half, 9-82 second half). Cuse was SOD twice in the RZ and also missed a FG. NCSt only had 462-444 (5.7-5.7) TY edge, although alot of Syracuse’s yards were in the second half, again this game Orange started slow and again Dungey led them in rushing 16 att and 44 net yards w/ 2 TD. NCSt DE Chubb was credited with 8 tkl, 3.5 tfl, 2 sacks and 2 qbh.

More later...

28-8 BC in mostly a statistically even game CM 18-17 FD, BC 309-296 TY (4.2-3.9), CM threw 3 INTs, BC lost 2 fumbles...it was the punt game for 2nd straight week that played a major role for BC, specifically returner Michael Walker. He had 128y on 4 returns...one for 61y to the C6, one 29y to the C17 and one 34y to midfield and BC got 3 TDs off of those returns. Walker was excellent at scooping up the rugby style punts and making CM pay. BC had 156-122 first half yard edge leading 21-8 (CM got safety by stuffing a run from BC1 early, their 2-pt att after TD was no good). With CM being hurt with injuries at receiver they are playing rFr QB Tony Poljan at WR and he had 3r 61y and did attempt a pass as well – he will have an expanded role. All 3 FGs attempted in the game were missed. BC D had 3 sacks and 8 TFL.

55-10 Louisville led 35-3 at HT holing Murray St to just 80 TY and 5 FD, most of which came on one 1st qrt 63y drive for FG. Their TD was a fumbled LV C-QB snap and was ret’d 23y for a D TD. Jackson played just into the first series of the 3rd qrt, 18-26-249-3-0, 7 att 100y rushing, TD. LV had 676 TY but did fumble at M9, L23, kick FGs from the M20, M27 and SOD at the M43.

26-19 FSU goes ahead with just :53 left. Derwin James ret’d the opening KO for TD, but it was called back and FSU would punt. Later FSU was on their own 1, but Patrick would bust a 69y run, from there FSU would lose 4 yards and kick a 51y FG. 3-0. WF was set up on F26 after a fumble, they kicked 24y FG. 3-3. A net 5y FSU punt! set WF up at the F28 and they would kick a 39y FG. 6-3. FSU went 3-and-out, but WF roughed the punter. Didn’t matter FSU was sacked and ran a draw on 3rd-and-21 only to punt again. WF would march 8p 81y never facing a 3rd down for a 12-3 lead (xpt no good). FSU would ret the KO 81y no penalty this time and FSU got a 4p 16y drive to cut 10-12. And INT set up FSU at W30, but they had to kick a 27y FG and led 13-12. FSU’s opening drive of the 3rd saw them go 15p 60y and ran 6 plays from the WF4 before settling for a 37y FG! 16-12. WF hit some big chunk plays on their next drive but fumbled. WF would come right back down and gain the 19-16 lead as the 4th began. FSU would have a 1st down at W20, but kicked a 35y FG to tie 19-19. WF was pinned at their own 10 and forced to punt with 1m left. On first down Blackmon rolled out and threw a 40y TD pass to Tate for the go-ahead score 26-19. WF D had an AMAZING 17 TFL! and 5 sacks + 5 QBH! FSU D was able to get 2 sacks and 10 TFL. WF 17-15 FD, 367-270 TY (5.3-4.2 ypp), 271-121 PY (69-52%). FSU did outrush them 149-96 (3.5-2.8). Each team was under 30% 3rd down conv.

31-17 Clemson smothers VT worse than score. VT’s first 5 drives netted just 38 total yards while Clemson kicked a FG from the 6 and a TD on their next drive, later missing a FG and scoring a TD right before HT. The first half yards were 256-140, 17-3 score. VT did manage a FG drive and missed a FG as well. Clemson made is 24-3 after 3 qrts before VT found any life. They were SOD at C19, but had a 43y punt ret for 2y TD “drive”, but threw back-to-back INTs when trailing 10-24, a pick-six made it 10-31 Tigers. Later VT scored a garbage TD with 1:38 left. Clem recovered onside kick and ran off the final 1-1/2m. Stats show VT with 17-14 FD, 342-332 TY edges, but that is not indicative of how the game was played.

31-6 Miami Fl, Duke was SOD/sacked from M14 4th-and-1. Canes would lead 14-0 before Duke kicked 27y FG. After throwing an INT Duke D held Canes to a 20y FG for the 17-3 score. Duke continued to struggle in the RZ and settled for a 36y FG to pull withing 6-17. In the first half Duke was in the RZ 3x but had just 6 pts. After a UM INT Duke was SOD again, this time 4th-and-3 from the M43. Canes hit Richards for a 48y TD, then another 21y TD pass to Richards was called back penalty and they missed a FG. 24-6. A 40y UM run late 4th qrt gave the final margin. Duke 24-19 FD and 183-139 RY (4.0-4.0) edges. UM outpassed 270-166 (10.4-4.0 ypa) and 409-349 (6.7-4.0) TY edges. UM D recorded 6 sacks, Duke D 3. RB Walton was injured late, believed to be ok, check status.

27-23 UCLA wins in a game that featured....defense? CU and UCLA both had key stops in the RZ to keep the game tight. CU kicked three FGs from the 16 yard line and was also SOD at the 11 (fake FG). UCLA kicked FGs from the 16 and 13 when CU needed stops most in the 4th qrt and Bruins were also SOD at the CU37. And both offenses did what they are good at and lagged in what they struggle with. Rosen 28-45-372-1-1 (sacked 1x), but they were held to just 95 RY (2.7). Although the running game was able to kill some clock at the end, but not enough to extend the score with a TD. Buffs leaned mostly on their running game with Montez leading 15 att for 108 and Lindsay chipping in 19-86 for a team avg of 5.0 – they did have some big run plays called back by penalty. UCLA hurt themselves with penalties on D and some sloppiness as well. The CU passing game has yet to have the big play impact or consistency it can or should, Montez 17-36-243-1-0. FD, TY, YPP pretty even. UCLA was 56% 3rd down to CU’s 25%. Close game that saw CU go up 7-0, but UCLA would tie and then go up 14-10 HT and 21-10 in the 3rd. CU scored the next 10 to make it a 21-20 game. Bruins added a FG 24-20 and teams each traded late FGs 27-23...CU's final pass att sailed out of the EZ as time expired.

45-24 Oregon wins the game, but loses key players. QB Herbert broke his collar bone on a TD run in the 1st qrt. Back up QB Taylor Alie left the game in the 4th qrt with injury. RB Freeman was also injured in the 1st qrt favoring his shoulder, speculation says he is ok. WR Dillon Mitchell also left the game (#2 receiver) and Charles Nelson (#1 receiver DNP). Ducks also sustained injuries to an OL (Pisarcik) and LB (Apelu). Despite that Ducks built a 17-0, but seemed to run out of gas (and injuries), leading 24-7 before Cal mounted a comeback. It was just 24-17 in the 4th before Ducks got more breathing room at 38-17 (68y TD run and 5y “drive” following Cal fumble). Cal benefitted from a TO as well to set up a short TD before HT. It was a boost Cal needed as they had under 100y in the 1st half. Some impressive stats for Ducks 328 RY to Cal’s 7 and 459-262 TY (5.9-3.6). Ore D had 7 sacks and allowed 0.

42-7 Washington in a 2nd half blowout. It was just 7-0 HT! It was another slow start for UW on the road, who have scored just 27 1st half pts in 3 games this year. UW score TDs on 5 of their first 6 drives in the second half while OSU’s inept O continued. Beavers played without QB Luton and two of their top 3 receivers and struggled mightily on O. Anderson was asked why receiver Hodgins didn’t play, his answer “no idea”. Beavers didn’t cross midfield in the first half and didn’t cross W45 until 6m left. UW rolled up 32-8 FD, 509-184 (6.8-3.7), 216-110 RY (5.3-3.9), 293-74 PY (76-50%), 64-15% 3rd down. Beaver D did manage 3 sacks, UW 0. 74 of OSU’s 184y came on their final drive.

34-24 Stanford’s Love runs for school record 301 with runs of 61, 43 and 59y with 3 TDs! Manny Wilkins had a school record 192 att without an INT, but threw 2 here (led to 7 Stan pts). Stan did fumble at the A2 on a 31y reception and kicked a FG from the 4 twice after 61 and 71y drives or else the score would’ve been worse. Az St did rush for 214 (4.7), but were dwarfed by Stan’s 328 (9.9). Costello 15-24-173-1-0 (not sacked). Wilkins 15-24-181-0-2 (sacked 3x). WR Harry threw a 14y TD on a trick play. Az St did have 53-45% 3rd down conv and 22-17 FD.

Has a team ever played vs the option three times in a row in your recollection? Army, Navy, Tulane for Tulsa. You would think they would have prepared better for it.

New Mexico's style is similar to Tulane. So yeah, I'm sure you meant, New Mexico, Navy and now Tulsa gets Tulane...Tulane's O isn't as good in execution as NM and Navy from a QB play perspective, but they have the more talented RBs I think. But yeah, I would think it to be an advantage for Tulsa, not sure about the consecutive week thing, I am sure it must be extremely rare to see it 3 straight. Takes a certain mentality to defend option Os. Read something about how the Tulane D has come to enjoy and look forward to playing option Os rather than dreading it as some Ds do. Maybe the Tulsa defenders don't have what it takes?

27-13 Buffalo win 3rd straight. QB Drew Anderson made his first start 11-18-142-1-0 with 76 rushing (incl a 64y long run). RB Reed lead rushing with 144 3TD on 33 att. 14-0 UB before Kent hit a 75y TD pass. UB blk’d a Kent punt setting up 8y TD “drive” for 21-7 lead. Kent added 2 FGs, 13-21, and then had 4th-and-goal at the 1 to potentially tie, but they were SOD. A 99y UB TD drive made it 27-13. Kent later SOD at UB32 and ended the game at the UB20. Due to some late game ball movement (158y on final 3 drives) Kent had statistical advantages 24-12 FD, 444-377 TY (6.3-6.1), 320-142 PY (each 61% completions), each 31% 3rd down. UB out rushed them 235-124 (5.3-3.1). UB D had a season high 4 sacks. UB did miss 2 FGs. Kent’s QB Bollas had by far and away his best game of his 3 years of on-and-off play 17-26-242-0-0 rushed for 26y.

58-50 Ohio for Solich’s 150th win. UMass led 13-7 at the end of 1st qrt with a 24 and 35y FG. Ohio took a quick 24-13 lead thanks to a 67y KO ret setting up short field and a fumble recovery set up another short field, then an INT set Ohio up again for a short field, this time a 25y FG - it was a span of 3m that saw Ohio score 17 pts. 24-13. It was UMass’ turn for a huge KO ret, 81y to the O6 and a TD made it 20-24 and would later take the lead 27-24, but it was short lived as Ohio tied 27-27 at HT. UMass would have 266-179 first half yard edge. Two 3rd qrt Ohio TDs made it 41-27 and later 48-29 early 4th qrt. Ohio was up comfortably 58-43 when UMass scored their final TD with :11 left. UMass 30-25 FD, 550-473 TY (5.8-7.4 ypp). Ohio LB Quentin Poling had 19 tkls. UMass was SOD back-to-back drives at Ohio 20 and 25 and was –2 TOs. Ohio was 50% 3rd down to UMass’ 28%. Rourke 13-24-181-2-0 and added 113 rushing. Ouellette led with 125 rushing. Ford 32-54-390-5-1. Breneman caught 12-131-2TD.

52-17 Notre Dame wins 900th game. The 45 first half pts were the most under Kelly. Adams had 72 and 53y TD runs and it was 28-7 1st qrt also aided by two TOs that ND converted to TDs (30 and 36y drives). Miami had some things on O, but couldn’t stay on the field enough and their D was overmatched. ND 21-19 FD, 503-377 (8.4-5.4), 333-115 RY (8.5-3.5). Mia outpassed them 19-37-262-2-1 to 10-23-170-3-0 and Redhawks had slight 3rd down rate of 40 to 38%. Miami’s 184 2nd half yards only netted 3 pts (SOD twice).

55-3 Western Michigan rolled up 21-15 FD, 414-238 (6.5-3.3ypp), 169-63 RY (3.9-2.1 ypc), 245-175 PY (11.7-4.1 ypa). Bronco D got 3 sacks and +2 TO. It went bad for Ball St right away. WM was up 7-0 :10 into the game when BSU fumbled the KO and WM scoop-scored it. It was 14-0 WM when BSU missed a 32y FG. That was BSU’s only worthwhile drive gaining 60y – they gained just 30y on their other 7 possessions in the 1st half. Not much went right for BSU, they did dropped a potential pick-six, had a pass play to the 1, ran it in for TD but penalty brought it back and they settled for FG. A crazy play saw the ball bounce off a BSU receiver at the W5, right into the hands of a WM defender for an 87y return. BSU att onside kick to start the 2nd half and WM started at the B34. Sr QB Milas started for injured Riley Neal and 2016 1000 RB James Gilbert also DNP. Super DB/PR/KR WM Darius Phillips made his debut on O for Broncos. His impact will be one to keep an eye on.

34-23 Akron got a fumble recovery on BG’s 2nd play setting up a 19y TD “drive”. BG would get TD, but miss xpt. 7-6 Zips. Akron would hit a 43y TD pass, but miss their xpt. 13-6. 20-13 HT. BG was able to tie on a 46y drive after recovering a fumble. 20-20. BG then would lead 23-20 off a 25y FG. It was 27-23 Zips when they got a 38y pick-six for the 34-23 final. Akron was SOD at B28 and missed a 47y FG. FD, TY, RY, PY all nearly even. Jarret Doege started his 2nd game for BG, but was injured on a trick play and replaced with former starter James Morgan in the 2nd qrt. Zip RB Warren Ball was also injured in the 1st qrt.

I may post some more, but it won't be until Tuesday night probably.

Yes, sorry. UNM not Army.

Rounding out a few others I was interested in. I won't be as productive next week as I am going out of town next Monday.

SEC

38-24 Gators scored a 39y TD run with 1:42 left on 4th-and-1 when Vandy was out of timeouts for the 14 pt win. Shurmur looked bad early, 0-4 on their first two drives, both 3-and-outs. UF scored on their 2nd drive and Vandy had a nice looking drive to answer 7-7. UF would score again, but Vandy answered right back again 14-14. Vandy would actually go ahead 17-14 aided by 20y in UF D penalties (one negated a 3rd down sack). Franks hit Cleveland on a 49y deep pass and had a 1st down at the V9, but after 3 passes kicked a 21y FG to tie 17-17 with :00 left in the half. UF took a 41-17 lead with Vandy D PIs on both drives. UF punted after an 11 play drive midway through the 4th and Vandy would go 14p 77y for TD converting two 4th downs on the way. Next drive UF got the spread covering 4th down TD run. UF 23-17 FD, 467-310 TY (6.1-5.2 ypp), 218-46 RY (4.3-2.3 ypc), 36-24 TOP, 44-23% 3rd down conv. Vandy slightly outpassed the 264-249 (45-65% compl). There were no turnovers, each team got a sack. Webb held to 29y (2.6). Del Rio was injured in the 2nd qrt and Franks came in going 10-14-185-0-0. Gators had 5 rushing TDs.

24-17 Texas A&M rallied from 10 down. SC missed a 46y FG after Kirk fumbled a punt. aTm scored first 10p 55y 7-0, but SC would score the next 17 pts. Bentley got out of a would-be sack and hit a wide-open Smith for 45y TD pass on 3rd-and-19. Bentley would later fumble on a sack from the aTm9. But a 29y FG and a 6p 80y TD drive featuring a 34y Williams rush and 29y Smith reception. 17-7. Aggie O started to move it for a 46y FG and later a 7p 55y TD drive highlighted by big Mond throws and runs 17-17 and would take the lead on a 17y Ford run 24-17. SC’s final drive was SOD near midfield with 1:22 left. aTm ran 76 plays (48/28 run/pass) to SC’s 56 (19/37 run/pass). aTm 20-14 FD, 396-279 TY (5.2-5.0 ypp), 237-23 RY (4.8-0.9 ypc), 34-26 TOP, 44-15% 3rd down. SC did outpass them 256-259 (56-70% compl). aTm had 7 sacks and Alaka had 5 TFL as part of 12 overall team 12 TFLs.

24-20 Kentucky struggles with Eastern Mich. EM outgained them 312-228 4.2-3.6 ypp (20-16 FD)! EM D had season highs in 5 sacks and 10 TFL (UK D also 5 sacks and 7 TFL). EM led 7-0 :15 into the game following a sack/fumble set their O up at the K20. 8p 85y later UK tied 7-7. UK went ahead on a 8p 71y drive 14-7. EM answered quickly using screen-WR throw for a 43y TD pass 14-14. UK missed a 53y FG. HT. EM muffed a punt, but UK could only get a 39y FG out of it 17-14. UK missed another FG, but would blk a punt for a 12y “drive” and the 24-14 lead. EM threw a INT at the K10, but UK punted from their own EZ with 4:32 left and EM would go 6p 40y for TD to only trail by 4 (xpt no good). UK recovered the onside kick, but would go three-and-out so EM got the ball back at their 12 with :44 left. They advanced to midfield but on a pass towards the EZ were INT’d. Snell ran just 21-75-TD. S Johnson 18-27-175-2-0, Roback 26-43-256-1-2. UK +2 TOs.

42-24 Arkansas scored TDs on 6 of their first 7 drives, the other was INT at N9. Aggies looked a little iffy to start, but would go 8p 76y but threw into the EZ and Ark deflected the pass and INT’d it. Ark led 21-0 early 2nd qrt and 28-10 HT. Ark had 319-210 yard edge. NMSt opened the 2nd half with a 11p 80y TD. Ark had a 4th-and-4 at the N26 and they went for it converting. With a first down at the N16 it took them 9 plays to score...35-17. NMSt fumbled the ensuring KO setting Ark up at the 22. They again faced a 4th down, but converted and would score a TD for the 42-17 lead. NM St responded with a 6p 81y TD drive. 42-24 with 12m left. For the 3rd drive in a row NMSt D forced a 4th down, this time Ark punted. NMSt went 3-and-out on their final two drives while Ark was SOD and ended the game at the N11. SJ St did have 30-25 FD edge and while UNLV racked up 548 TY, a week after SJSt had just 162y at Utah St, they got 462y here and those yards weren’t all in garbage time. SJ St had a 58 and 75y drives to only kick FGs from the 12 and 5 yard lines. In the 2nd half they would be SOD at the LV20 and also fumble at the LV1 on their final drive. UNLV took that fumble and would drive 9p 96y but ended the game at the S3 taking knees after a 24y run to the S1.
