Week 5 M*A*S*H Report: Rodgers Asking for Volunteers to Catch Passes From Him
By Week 5, the schedule becomes a question of which team is less decimated than its opponent. Read on for a breakdown of the injuries that bettors need to know most about.
Vikings vs Eagles
The Eagles will miss some key players from this highly anticipated NFC Championship rematch. Running back Darren Sproles has been ruled out. Running back Corey Clement hasn’t practiced all week and is listed as ‚questionable.‘ Without either back, the Eagles’ pass protection suffered in their upset loss against Tennessee. The Eagles have also lost another defensive end, bringing their total of active defensive ends down to four. On the flip side, Minnesota’s defense has really struggled to live up to its reputation. Those struggles will likely continue without two cornerbacks and two defensive ends—one starter at each position.
Jaguars vs Chiefs
Kansas City’s defense has been porous. Missing star safety Eric Berry won’t help that. Losing linebacker Dee Ford, who co-leads the team with three sacks, would deal an additional blow. He’s listed as ‚questionable,‘ as is wide receiver Sammy Watkins. Jacksonville’s defense is also problematic. Cornerback D.J. Hayden has been ruled out, giving the Jags that much less of a chance to stop the Chiefs’ vaunted pass attack. Jacksonville’s problems, though, are greatest on offense. Running back Leonard Fournette continues to be injured. He would have been a monstrous weapon against Kansas City’s bottom-ranked rush defense. His backup, T.J. Yeldon, is dinged up but ready to go. The Jags’ offensive line has been banged up. But, besides having lost left tackle Cam Robinson a couple weeks ago, everyone will be good to go.
Packers vs Lions
Aaron Rodgers will be missing several targets. Receiver Randall Cobb has been ruled out. Davante Adams and Geronimo Allison are also listed as ‚questionable.‘ If they are unable to go, Rodgers will have to lean on a host of rookies who have caught a grand total of two passes. The Packers are receiving public love at even odds in Detroit. Keep an eye on the injury status of Green Bay’s wide receivers before you consider joining the masses.
Dolphins vs Bengals
Recall how lackluster Miami looked on offense last Sunday. Ryan Tannehill and company could barely move the ball against New England’s defense, which is why Miami failed to score until the fourth quarter when they were already down by more than 30 points. Tannehill only threw for 100 yards and a big reason why he and the offense struggled was that top wide receiver DeVante Parker was injured. He’s listed as ‚questionable‘ and it’s very possible that Tannehill will miss him again. The Fins are already missing their starting left guard and center for the season. On defense, pass-rushing specialist Cameron Wake, whose absence Miami felt on the defensive side in its blowout loss last week, is listed as ‚doubtful.‘ Without him, Miami achieved zero sacks against New England. Cincinnati’s pass attack would have an even easier time scoring if Miami’s starting safeties are injured. Both are listed as ‚questionable.‘ Keep an eye out on the injury report if you are considering to bet on Miami! The news for Cincinnati is much better. Pro Bowl linebacker Vontaze Burfict is back, as is starting running back Joe Mixon.
Giants vs Panthers
The Giants keep expressing hope that defensive end Olivier Vernon will return. But bettors can count on the star to miss Sunday’s game in Carolina. His absence is a big reason why the Giants rank second-to-last with five sacks. Conversely, the Panthers get back a starting offensive lineman. Carolina's offensive line had been plagued with injuries, but now it gets a boost.
49ers vs Cardinals
The injury situation for San Francisco is finally looking better, although that’s not saying too much. Three offensive linemen are listed as ‚questionable.‘ Although, after missing practice on Wednesday, they’ve returned to full participation. However, running back Matt Breida and wide receiver Marquise Goodwin are limited in practice and may fail to contribute to a San Francisco offense that’s missing quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo for the season plus wide receiver Dante Pettis.
