Goodbye to Romance College Football
ACC

27-21 NC St, their 1st win over a top 25 team since 2012 (first on the road since 2008). Slow start by FSU and fast start by NCSt played role (FSU two 3-and-out while NCSt went 12-58 and 10-76 for 10-0 lead). Blackman started 0-4, but finished 14-16 in the first half; 22-38-278-1-0 for the game. He was sacked 4x. FSU D recorded 10 TFL including a safety. FSU was in the RZ 7x, but only scored a TD on 1 of those 7 trips (4 FG, miss FG and fumble). NCSt’s 4 RZ trips ended in 2 TDs and 2 FGs. FSU Penalties played a role – PI negated FSU INT, targeting led to LB Pugh ejection as well as presnap O penalties. Noles outgained Pack 385-365 (5.9-5.2). Pack owned TOP 33:30-26:30. NCSt 33-123y rushing, FSU RBs 20-94y.

42-3 Louisville, they had 188y in the 1st qrt, Kent St had 150y for the game. Kent’s only scoring “drive” was off a 2nd qrt LV fumble at the L35, Kent “drove” 5y and kicked a FG. LV D got 14 TFL and a pick-six, but Kent St D got 4 turnovers. Golden Flashes only attempted 5 passes, completing just 2. One of the LV fumbles was into the EZ for TB following a 99y drive (led by backups). Jackson 18-22-299-2-2 with 34y rushing (1 TD, 1 fumble). LV WR Jaylen Smith and Kent QB Holley DNP.

35-17 GT rolled past Pitt. One of Pitts TDs was on a brilliant Henderson 80y punt return. While it was 7-7, 14-14 there was never any question who the better team was. GT lost 4 fumbled, 1 inside the P5, but Pitt wouldn’t score any pts off turnovers and GT had a 35-25 TOP edge with 484-235 TY edge (6.5-4.3 ypp). Pitt couldn’t stop the patented dive play. Qb Marshall 18-122-2TD rushing, 4-7-48 passing. Benson 29-196-2TD (did lose 2 fumbles). DiNucci started for Pitt, looked ok on opening drive, but not after. Browne played as well. Jordan Whitehead had a 30y end-around run on Pitt’s opening drive, after that Pitt would gain just SEVEN yards on the ground the rest of the day (sacked 3x for –23 y). Pitt was 1 of 13 3rd down, GT was 6 of 14.

38-0 VT. Second consecutive game VT started slow, 3-0 after 1st qrt, but an INT would spark them eventually leading 17-0 HT and 31-0 after 3 qrt. 17 year old QB Williams made first start for ODU and he went 8-26-85-0-1 and ran for 6-24. Apparently his mobility evaded some of VT’s pass rush. ODU receivers didn’t help much with drops, including one that would’ve been a TD. VT got lucky on one of their TDs on a deep ball tip that a Hokie caught, Fuete wasn’t happy with the pass. Jackson was 20-30-298-3-2 adding 29 rushing. VT had 32-7 FD and 582-149 TY edge. VT missed a FG and threw INT at O14. Each team had just 1 sack and ODU actually had 5 TFLs to VT’s 4.

34-7 BC, but it took them a while to get there. 7-0 HT and tied 7-7 after 3 qrt. Tigers would score 3 TDs in the final 6 minutes to make it look more lopsided than it was. Clemson outgained BC 213-37 in the 4th qrt! BC’s punter pinned Clemson inside the 10 6x. Total yards for Clemson 482-238 (5.7-3.6). RY 342-97 (5.9-2.9). Tiger passing 17-26-140 – BC 15-32-141. Each team lost 2 TOs.

20-19 Wake Forest as App St missed an x-pt and two FGs, one before HT and a blk’d FG with :10 left. App St led 9-3 HT and for the game had 27-18 FD and had 36-24 TOP edge with 494-344 (5.7-5.1) total yards. App St also gave WF a 1st down on an offside 4th-and-4 punt that led to a Deacs TD. But App was aided by a PI call on 4th down to keep their hopeful would-be game winning drive alive. Largest crowd in stadium history was on hand.

27-17 comeback win for Duke, UNC led 17-13 after 3 qrts. Dukes aggessive D to create pressure and create turnovers has worked although they yield big plays. UNC had passes of 35, 45, 47 and a 56 Surratt QB rush. WRs Proehl and Groves left the game for Heels. Stats mostly even, teams were combined 4 of 5 on 4th down, one big conversion was for Duke 4th qrt go-ahead drive with just 7m left. On 3rd down UNC converted only 19% to Duke’s 39%. Duke iced it when Sarratt threw an ugly pass over the middle with pressure around him and Duke ret’d it 61y for TD. That was the only TO of the game.

52-30 Miami who surprisingly started fast with all the time off and led 10-0 after two drives (44y run and 19y FG), while Toledo didn’t get going until the 2nd qrt where Rockets took the 16-10 HT lead (24, 49, 32y FGs and 37y pass). The momentum did not carry over however as Toledo had a horrible 3rd qrt while the Canes went 8-91, 3-61, 2-36 (after Tol fumble) and 7-73 to build a 38-16 lead. Toledo was able to cut it to 30-38 with 6-77 and 1-8 (after UM INT) drives. But Rockets would run just 7 plays on their last two possessions and Canes added on 5-75 and 5-42 TD drives for the final margin. RB Walton left the game in the first half with ankle injury, but he would return and have career high 204 on just 11 carries. WR Berrios also had career high 105y. Rosier 27-36-333-3TD-INT, Woodside 28-48-342-3-0. Rockets had 36-24 TOP and 57% to 33% 3rd down.

Big Xll

27-24 Texas Tech. TT D got an INT on the 3rd play of the game and largely controlled the action from there. Two possessions deep in UH terr led to just a 6-0 1st qrt lead and later 13-0 after a 11-86y drive. UH fumbled, but TT gave INT right back and UH was able to cut it 10-13. After another TO before HT TT missed a FG. First half yards were just 193-133 for TT. Raiders missed another FG, but built a 27-10 lead in the 4th and midway through the qrt UH benched Allen and Postma led 10-73y TD drive (two 4th down conv Postma runs) and later Postma took them on a 8-76y TD with just :15 left. TT recovered the onside kick. TT 521-427 (6.7-5.1 ypp) edge. TT actually outrushed UH as well 200-110 (6.1-3.5), boosted by a 84 and 73y runs. Postma led UH in rushing with just 52y. UH was –4 TO.

56-34 WVU who left their D in Morgantown. KU gained 544 (6.7 ypp) and 367 rushing (7.3), but WV would outgain them with 635 TY (7.7). KU opened with a 14-64 drive that stalled inside the 10 for an early 3-0 lead. WV was able to score 4 straight TDs for the 28-3 lead before KU RB Herbert ripped a 67y TD. 28-10. KU forced a punt, but then threw 17y pick-six 35-10 :36 left 1st H then KU drove for a FG right before HT had the score 35-13. 370-259 TY edge for WVU HT. WV’s 3rd qrt drives ended in 2 punts and INT while KU scored 2 TDs. 35-27. 2 TDs by WV to KU’s 1 showed the score 49-34 late 4th qrt. WV had kicked a 29y FG, but an offside gave them 1st down so they scored TD 2 plays later Then KU QB was sacked and fumbled leading to a 2-31y drive for WV TD. 56-34. With 3m left KU threw INT ret 38y to KU 8, but 4 rush att could not find the EZ and WVU were SOD at the 2. Grier played the whole game. WV lost 6 D starters to injury in the game. Both Os had several big chunk plays.

44-31 TCU played keep away and limited the big plays OSU has been known for. Frogs had 39-21 TOP edge. TCU scored on their 1st 4 drives, 2 short FGs and 2 TDs while OSU could only muster 10 1st H pts. TCU continued their strong open when they scored 17 pts on their first 3 drives of the 2nd H. The lead was as big as 37-17 in the 4th before OSU attempted a comeback. Frogs they did sack Rudolph 3x they often dropped in coverage and forced checkdowns throwing 2 INTs (3rd INT by WR on trick play at T5 trailing by just 13 with 6m left). The score was sitting at 37-31 late 4th when OSU kicked off deep, but a 42y KO ret and a 42y TD run by TCU made is 44-31 with 2m left. Rudolph threw an INT and Frogs took knees.

49-41 Oklahoma in a game that looked like an old Big Xll shootout, but these Bears aren’t those Bears. BU QB Zach Smith did pass for 4th most yards in program history 33-50-463-4-0 with some great receiving effort by his targets. Mayfield 13-19-283-3-0 as Sooners ran it 342 (8.6) to BU’s 60 (1.7). Abdul Adams had a 99y TD run. OU had leads of 14-0 and 28-10, but Baylor kept coming back. In the 4th they were able to hold OU to punt, cut the score to 49-41, recovered the onside kick with 1:41 left but threw 2 incomplete and fumbled on a sackon their 3rd down drop back from midfield. Each team 40% 3rd down, Baylor 2-of-2 4th down.

21-17 Tulane scoring on a 75y run first play of the game, but Army would lead 10-7 and 17-14 with Tulane needing a 4th qrt comeback drive a 19p 75y featuring three 4th down conversions, scoring a TD with :23 left. Tulane was 100% on 4th down, Army was stopped 2 out of 4 on their attempts, but owned a 47-18% 3rd down conv rate over the Wave. Army ran for 371 and was 0-5 passing with 2 INTs (one in the EZ). Tulane ran for 253, but passed 10-22-103. FD 22-15 for Army. Tul QB Banks was injured on a 4th down run and left momentarily but was able to come back in on the game winning drive.

16-13 New Mexico as Tulsa may’ve been out of gas from last week now losing on a last second FG for 2nd straight game. Gerhart started and he led NM in rushing 24-156-TD and passed 9-14-108-0-1. In the first half NM kept the ball for 21m TOP and for the game owned 43-17 TOP. NM kicked FGs of 34, 39 and 53y (game winner :00 left) while Tul made FGs of 50 and 26y. Lobos had 25-15 FD and 446-286 TY edges. The score could’ve been worse as NM fumbled at the T7, INT’d at the T14 and SOD at the T33 on consecutive drives.

38-10 UCF. UM QB Hill was knocked out 1st qrt and the O had nothing without him. After the injury UM kicked a FG, but would not score again for 32 minutes. 3rd string Bortenschlager replaced him 15-26-132-0-2, was sacked 5x and threw a late game 57y pick-six. FD were even at 18, but UCF outgained them 428-197 (6.2-3.0) including 250-42 (6.4-1.1) on the ground. UCF Milton was 18-30-178-1-0 and led in rushing 6-94.

42-32 Navy sinks Cincinnati, Mids run for 569 in the process (2nd most school history). Navy scored on 7 of their first 9 drives and only missed on the other 2 because of a fum and missed FG. Navy punted once, their 10th possession and ended the game at the C12. UC QB Moore was 28-46-381-3-0, but Bearcats started the game 3-and-out twice and they could never keep up from there. Cin’s final drive ended on 3rd down at the C11 sack/fumble. Abey led in rushing 20-128-2TD and also passsed 2-3-53-TD. Cin RB Boone DNP.

44-21 SMU wins scoring the 34 of the games final 41 pts, Ark St led 14-10 after 1st qrt. Trailing just 14-17 Ark St fumbled into the EZ following a 37y gain for touchback. SMU had 580-427 TY (6.7-5.9 ypp) and 314-143 RY (5.8-4.9 ypc). SMU had 3 sacks, they now have 13 good enough for t-2nd AAC.

44-31 Memphis beats Southern ILL, but it got close. Just 37-31 late SILL stopped Mem on 4th down, but a face mask gave Mem 1st down and they added a late score on. SILL was SOD at M9 on their final possession. SILL led 21-17 HT with yardage edge of 241-200. SILL was 50% on 3rd down, Mem 42%. Only 1 INT in the game, set Mem up for a 3p 14y TD “drive”. Mem did outgain them 464-393 (6.4-4.6). Tony Pollard ran his 4th career KO ret for TD.

41-38 ECU wins as UConn missed game tying 33y FG with :00 left. UConn started slow with just 93 1st qrt yards while EC racked up 192 and a 21-7 lead. It was 27-7 with EC scoring on their first 5 drives when UC scored before HT to make it 27-14. EC added to their lead on the first play of the 3rd qrt a 75y TD pass. It was 41-21 at one point, but UC started coming back and actually forced EC to punt 3x (a few penalties hurt EC’s O efforts). EC also missed a 39y FG in that stretch. Total yards were exactly even at 596. UC slight edge rushing 190-170 (5.0-3.6). Sirk 30-39-426-3-0 added 31 rushing, career high yards. Montgomery said Sirk’s running was key. Shirreffs 24-39-406-3-1 with 18y rushing, the most yards passing by a UConn QB in 4 years. With one of EC’s top WRs out Davon Grayson was the beneficiary catching 11-223-3TD for Pirates, all career highs.

I'll get some more up tonight and tomorrow...

Big Ten

38-18 Notre Dame easily wins. The final stats show 26-21 FD, 496-355 (5.8-5.9) TY, 345-173 PY (6.5-8.7 ypa) edges for Sparty and just a slight edge in RY 182-151 (4.5-4.7 ypc) for ND, however nearly HALF of MSU’s total yards were achieved on their final 3 possessions when the score was 35-10 (those drive ended in SOD ND6, TD and end of game at ND11). ND went 7p 78y TD to open then got a 59y pick-six. MSU was able to cut it to 7-14, but they would never get closer. ND cashed a Lewerke fumble into a 6p 24y TD drive. Next drive MSU’s Scott would fumble as he crossed the goal line for a touchback after a 9p 74y drive. ND would add another TD before half going 5p 80y. 28-7 HT. Wimbush had his most efficient game of the year 70%, 173y, 8.7 ypa with a 1-0 ratio (added 8-52 rushing). Lewerke had a 52y rush on 3rd and 1 to set up their first TD.

21-19 Penn St emerges victorious on final play. PSU had fantastic field position to start the game, but could only manage a FG (also had FG miss, SOD and INT’d). Due to Iowa’s terrible 1st half field position, PSU was able to get a safety for a 5-0 lead. Iowa’s first 5 drives started at their own 12 on average, PSU’s first 5 drives started at their own 43 avg. But both Ds controlled the action early. Late 2nd qrt Iowa LB Jewell INT’d PSU and ran 33y to PSU 21. Iowa scored the next play for the 7-5 lead with just :37 left first half. Iowa had just 3 FD and 54 1st half yards, 21 of those came on the TD pass. PSU had 12 FD and 219y, but trailed! After an Iowa punt, PSU’s great field position continued, they went 7-55 for a 21y FG and the 8-7 lead and after an Iowa fumble 8-75 for a TD and 15-7 lead. Near the end of the 3rd qrt PSU was driving near midfield, McSorley was sack/fumbled, but Iowa’s ensuing drive would end in a FG blk. McSorley fumbled again (recovered by Nits) and PSU had to punt. Wadley would catch a short pass on a busted coverage and take it 70y for TD to make it 13-15 (2 pt no good). PSU would go on a 16 play 75y 8-1/2m drive to the Iowa 13, but their FG was blk’d. With about 2m left Wadley capped a TD drive with a 35y run for the 19-15 lead (2 pt no good). At their own 20 and only 1:42 left PSU began. They had to convert a 4th and 2 then had 12y rush, 18y pass, 14y rush and was at the Iowa 10 with :15 left. On 4th and goal with :04 left McSorley’s pass barely went over a leaping Iowa defender’s hand and found Juwan Johnson for the 7y game winning TD. PSU stat edges 579-273 TY (5.8-6.1), 284-191 PY (5.9-8.7), 295-85 RY (5.8-3.6). Saquon Barkley was a human highlight film and had a Penn St record 358 all purpose yards. Iowa’s D had 4 sacks and 11 TFL, 5 qbh plus 8 pbu (PSU 1, 7, 1, 1 by comparison).

52-17 Indiana cruised. IU led 31-0 before GSU would score. It was 45-7 mid 3rd qrt, then 45-17, 52-17 final. IU had a punt ret TD and 71y TD pass. Lagow started and went 8-13-130-1-0, but was injured. Ramsey 3-8-55-1-0 (22 rushing). IU rushed for 282 (128 prior 2 games combined). GSU lost 3 fumbles, the last IU ran 22y for TD with 2m left. IU converted the first two fumbles into 5-46 and 7-36 TD drives. They also had another short drive for FG 5-43 after GSU was SOD. 467-375 (6.8-5.4) TY edge for IU.

54-21 Buckeyes in a game that wasn’t that close. OSU led 37-0 midway 2nd qrt and the 1st team players started coming out. UNLV had a drive stay alive with a D PI call (OSU INT’d them on the play) and UNLV was able to score a TD. 44-7 HT. Lexington Thomas hit a 55y run and UNLV had a 65y pick-six in the 2nd half. OSU fumbled at the 1 and ended the game at the LV18. OSU was only 3 of 11 on 3rd down, UNLV 3 of 13.

27-17 Big Red, but turnovers continue to plague Huskers. RU had leads of 7-0, 10-7 and 17-14 before Nebraska would take the lead for good late 3rd qrt. Lee threw off backfoot to WR bracketed with Scarlet Knights for first INT (led to 28y drive for FG), 3rd qrt Lee would again throw an INT without any pocket pressure – that one was ret’d for TD giving RU the 17-14 lead at the time. RU only had 58y in the 2nd half. For the game Neb edges 21-12 FD, 306-194 TY (4.2-3.7), 197-68 (4.2-2.8) RY. Both teams only completed about 50% with RU passing for 126 to Neb’s 109 for the same ypa of 8.4. Neb settled for FGs from the R15 and R10 in the 2nd half.

28-10 Michigan got there eventually. Purdue has some trick plays, but Mich D was too much. PU D was there to match the D effort early on as well. Both teams got strong pressure on the QB. Speight was knocked out 1st qrt. Mich had a total of 12y on their first 3 poss, their 4th was a 13-84y TD drive (led by OKorn) – they gained 1 yard on their next 3 first half drives. Pur had 33y on their first 4 poss, their 5th was a 5-75y TD drive (led by Sindelar). Pur would only have 31y the rest of the half. They got a 6p 16y “drive” for FG after an INT. 10-7 Boiler Up HT. Pur did have 139-97 yard edge 1st half. Pur sacked Mich 3x first half (they had 1 sack 3 games prior). Mich’s Chase Winovich had 3 himself (leads Big Ten). In the 2nd half Mich would gain 297y with 3 consecutive TD drives. Purdue could only gain 15 total yards and just 1 first down. Purdue LB Bentley and S Thieneman were ejected for targeting 2nd half.

Akron led 3-0, but they would not score again until late 3rd qrt. Troy’s first drive was a fumble that set up that Akron 3-0 lead. Troy's second drive went 13-83y for TD (converted 4th and 1 in process) to lead 7-3. Their next drive was 12-67y for FG, this time kicking on 4th down from the 5. Troy’s next drive they brought in the backup QB (as they’ve done before this year) and he busted a 48y run up the middle for TD. 16-3 (xpt no good). Troy is dominating the game at this point. Akron was then able to move the ball, aided by a PI call, but eventually threw INT in the EZ to atleast change field position. One of the next Troy drives they convert 3rd and 1 with a run to the 50, but personal foul negates it creating 3rd and 16 and Troy punts. Akron would drive 7-50y (aided by PI)but miss a 34y FG. 16-3 HT. Akron’s opening 3rd qrt drive a PI call helped them move the ball to the 9, but Woodson would fumble 3 plays later. Troy got to the Akron 16, but penalty brought it back and they were eventually SOD at the 32. Woodson then connected on a 29y TD pass to make the score 10-16. Troy’s next drive they got to the Akron 12, but unsportsmanlike conduct moved it back and eventually their FG missed. Akron got the go-ahead-TD on a Warren Ball wildcat 4th and goal 1y run to lead 17-16. Troy went 3-and-out, punted with timeouts, but Akron had to punt back pinning Troy at the 3. This is where Silvers would begin. He was 7 of 9 passing converting on 4th and 5 with a 16y pass and later a 23y TD pass with 1:06 left...22-17 (2 pt no good). Woodson was INT’d at midfield with :22 left to end the game. Troy 489-367 (7.0-4.9) TY. Troy committed 16 pen for 159y, Akron 12 for 100. Zips did convert 53% 3rd down to Troy’s 29%.

29-23 Idaho in 2 OT. ID fumbled 2nd play at their own 28 and USA led 7-0. It was 10-3 end 1st qrt. ID fumbled at the USA 2. USA was driving, but threw INT and with the return set up a short field for a Vandal TD to tie the game 10-10. USA went 73y and kicked a FG before HT for the 13-10 lead. USA couldn’t do much in the 2nd half, but ID was moving it well, they were however SOD at the USA 3 and 30 yard lines and also kicked a FG from the 17 to tie 13-13 in the 4th. Teams traded punts. USA got a 34y rush TD to lead 20-13 with just 5m left. More punts. ID took over with 1:30 left at their own 39. Lineham went 6 of 8 and passed for 10y TD with just :13 left to tie. In OT the teams traded FGs, in OT2 USA missed their FG and ID would run 4x for a TD. There were two weather delays and the game took over 7 hours to complete. ID 419-350 (5.5-4.7) TY, Jags did outrush them 244-146 (5.1-3.9).

56-50 ULM also in 2 OT. ULM jumped out to 16-0 lead with a safety and later 23-7, ULM led 43-22 with 9:35 to go in the game, but ULL would eventually comeback to tie at 43-43 as time expired in the 4th and they did it with their backup QB! Cajun QB Jordan Davis was knocked out of the game 1st qrt and Andre Nunez came off the bench and nearly pulled out the comeback. ULM QB Caleb Evans accounted for 472 total yards and 6 TDs (5 rushing TDs ties school record). ULM scored first in OT, but ULL converted 4th and 7 and later found the EZ to tie 50-50. ULL missed a FG allowing ULM to win on their possession. ULM D did get 5 sacks.

28-0 Georgia State with a strange blk’d FG fell on in the EZ for a TD. Ga State D also INT’d two passes in the EZ. Ga St did have 22-14 FD, 374-273 (4.9-4.3) TY, 124-94 (3.1-2.8) RY and 250-179 (70%-55%) PY and 53% – 20% 3rd down conv. Ga St D also got 3 sacks. Each team missed 2 FGs.

41-14 NMSt led 7-0 on Larry Rose 40y run, but UTEP was able to tie 7-7. That is as good as it got for the Miners. Rose added a 28y TD and then the D got a 19y INT ret to lead 21-7 HT. 3 more TDs brought the score to 41-7. UTEP’s other TD was a 26y fumbled return near the end of the game. Aggie QB Rogers went 26-43-283-2-1, Rose 17-144-2TD rushing and also 4-40-TD receiving. QB Ryan Metz returned for UTEP 6-18-54-0-3INT. Torrez also played 4-16-38-0-2. The two combined for 53y rushing. UTEP was –3 TOs. NMSt outgained them 462-227 (6.4-3.2).

44-14 UTSA, but it was closer 1st half. 10-7 end 1st with UT’s TD being a fumble return TD and then led 17-14 mid 2nd before completely taking control 27-14 HT. UTSA racked up 569 yards to Tex St’s 198. RB Jalen Rhodes ran for career high 174y with 67 and 36y runs. Tex St QBs were only 10-27-161-1-0 passing and their leading rusher had 21y. UTSA did commit 13 penalties for 155y, and 6 of Tex St’s FD were by way of penalty.

52-10 for Western Illinois over Coastal Carolina. CC threw 3 INTs and lost a fumble, they were also sacked 4x. W ILL is a pretty good IAA team, they have won 3 straight on the road to open the season. Their QB McGuire was 17-19-276-3-0 and Leathernecks outgained CC 510-307 (8.9-5.3).

He did get crushed, fortunate he did not fumble. Found it interesting that they went to tr fr QB McClain instead of Brantley or Cuillette. But Banks wasn't out long.

MAC

27-20 Ohio comes through with a tight one at EMich. The Ds were simply getting after it. OU took opening drive to E14, but a sack forced a 41y FG, 3-0. Later EM got as far as O21, but a sack forced a 41y FG to tie 3-3. EM was later SOD at O27. OU broke a big run, but would then fumble at the E25 and a big return set EM up for a short drive. At the O5, but penalty led to an eventual 31y FG. 6-3 EMich. After punt, with EM hit a big pass to the O33, but Roback was across the line and it came back, next play OU got a 46y pick six to lead 10-6 at HT. OU got a big run to move to midfield and later kicked a 44y FG 13-6. EM was SOD at O30. EM later used a trick play to get to the goal line and Eagles punched it in to tie 13-13 early 4th. OU missed a 47y FG near the end of the 4th and it went to OT. EM scored TD on first play of OT, but Bobcats answered 20-20. OU scored a TD again and EM was SOD. 31-14 Miami Oh, but stats show things mostly even vs CMich. 20-19 FD, 394-345 TY, 217-228 PY, 177-117 RY with Miami being the first team in those categories. CMich threw two INTs and also was just 1 of 3 in the RZ to Miami’s 3-4 RZ chances. Each team missed a FG. Miami had 3 70+y drives and a 52y drive all for TDs in the first half while CMich’s inconsistent drives could only score 2 TDs. 28-14 HT. CM D put the clamps on Mia in the 2nd half, while Mia D yielded some yards, they made plays with CM’s drives resulted in INT from the M4, SOD at M5, INT from M40 and end of game at M39. Ragland 11-19-217-2-0 added 35 rushing. Morris 15-33-195-1-2 added 33 rushing.

49-14 WMich rolled Wanger. Broncos scored on their first three drives 21-0 before Wagner found EZ right before HT (32y drive following WM fumble). 21-7. WM scored 4 straight to open the 2nd half. Wagner’s other TD was also following a fumble, 2p 28y drive. 527-113 (8.4-2.2) Total Yards for WM and they were 80% on 3rd down.

34-31 Buffalo opened strong going 75 and 79 yard drives for 14-0 lead. FAU battled to tie at 14-14 and led 17-14 mid 2nd qrt, but that is the last lead they would have. Buff tied 17-17 with :00 2nd qrt. Buff got some chunk plays on their way to a 11p 92y TD drive to lead for good 24-17. They stretched it to 27-17 but FAU would convert 4th down on their way to 11p 65y TD drive for 24-27 score. Mid 4th FAU was SOD at their own 18 and Buff added short TD 34-24. FAU scored TD with about 1m left, but the onside kick was recovered by Buff. Buff 28-22 FD, 458-412 TY, 254-150 PY, but FAU outrushed them 262-204. Driskel QB’d entire game for FAU, threw 1 pick. Both Jackson and Drew Anderson QB’d for Buff, Anderson had a TD pass and was more efficient. Buff owned 40-20 TOP and 50% 3rd down to 30%.

24-13 MTSU played without Stockstill again. Urzua was 24-32-290-2-1 MT had two 100y rushers, Bruce and Anderson, Anderson also led in rec 6-98-TD. BG started Jarret Doege 21-35-283-1-0, he was sacked 3x. First tr frosh to start QB at BG since 1982. BG was competitive early, but MT led 21-10 HT and they would maintain that 11 pt lead throughout. 27-14 FD, 243-1 RY, 290-283 PY advantages for MT. BG was actually +3 turnovers.

33-21 WKU wins a game closer than it looks. Milas started for BSU (Neal inj, RB Gilbert also DNP). WKU led 17-7 HT, but BSU would take the lead 21-20 midway through the 4th. WKU answered with 8p 76y drive to regain the lead 27-21. BSU was then INT’d and ran back 34y for TD on the ensuing drive for the 33-21 margin. WKU had 22-17 FD edge, but BSU had 374-371 TY edge. WKU 50% 3rd down, BSU 25%. BSU D got 4 sacks (#1 MAC, #4 nationally).

PAC 12

30-24 Utah had to hang on. Tyler Huntley was injured on a sack in the 2nd qrt after being 8-9-98-1-0. Troy Williams was 9-18-131-0-0 in relief (15 y rushing + TD). UA QB Brandon Dawkins was 24-42-248-1-3int and rushed for 18-90-TD-fum (leading rusher). 24 completions career high, 2nd highest career yards. Utah led 7-0, Arz answered with FG. Utah added FG 10-3 then Arz fumbled at the Utah 7 after a 9-68y drive, Utah added another FG 13-3. Arz would come back for to trail just 10-13 HT. Arz 212-204 HT yard edge. Utah twice built 10 pt leads in the 3rd and a 13 pt lead in the 4th aided by 14y pick-six TD. In the 4th qrt Arz was SOD at U25, had FG blk’d from U29, recovered an onside kick after a TD and then fumbled at U20 on a 15y 1st down run. Utah was able to bleed clock and Arz final poss ended on INT near midfield. 2nd H yards were 290-162 in favor of Arz. Arz 42-20% 3rd down, but Cats were –3 TOs. Utah S Blair was ejected in the 2nd H for targeting.

30-20 USC benefitting from 6 Cal TOs (+4 TO margin). Cal led 3-0, USC was SOD, but 1st Cal INT set SC up for 3-3 tie. Cal converted two 4th-and-1s on a 12p 60y drive to lead 10-3. SC wasted no time going right down the field 8p 74y 10-10. Cal fumbled, but SC fumbled it right back next play. After a punt SC was driving but threw INT in the EZ. Cal punted again and SC was able to kick a FG 13-10 with 2m left 1st H. Cal drove 10p 71y getting to the SC4 but had to kick a FG as time expired for the 13-13 tie. SC 209-192 yard edge 1st H. Cal imploded in the 2nd H. After missing a 29y FG, they would be SOD at SC42, fumble at their own 4 and the next 3 drives all ended in INTs. As a result SC was able to score 17 pts on just 67 yards of offense. Cal outgained them 222-128 in the half and did get back under the spread with 2m left in the 10 pt loss. SC only outrushed Cal 133-113 (3.5-3.4 ypc) and Bowers out passed Darnold 303-223, but only 44% to Darnold 68% and Bowers 1-4 TD-INT ratio was a killer.

45-7 Wazzou dominated. Nevada only crossed midfield once in the first half and W St built a 35-0 HT lead. Ineffective Nev Fr QB Cureton started but only lasted a qrt. He was replaced by David Cornwell who saw his first action of the year, but he wasn’t any better. W St had 31-13 FD, 560-151 TY and 505-105 PY edges. Falk was 36-47-478-5-0, 6 different WSt receivers caught atleast 4 balls. W St only rushed for 55y (1.6) to Nev’s 46 (1.9), mostly due to sacks. Morrow did rush for 11-73. W St D was able to get 5 sacks, but Nev D got 4 and a bunch of TFLs.

37-10 Washington as Buffs played well early, but it was just a matter of time. CU limited UW to 172 1st H yards, while Buffs moved it for 199. After an opening drive TD for 7-0 lead, A blk’d punt at the C12 let UW tie and took the lead in the 2nd qrt 10-7 HT and it never got closer. CU was INT’d twice in the 1st H in UW terr (once in the EZ on a deep 1st down throw). UW opened the 3rd with a TD drive and CU answered with a FG, but UW D totally shut down the Buffs from there out. A 34y pick-six was the first of 3 straight TDs, the last a 57y Gaskins run. UW D got 5 sacks and got 3 INTs. Browning was just 11-21-160-1-1. Montez 21-27-171-0-3 and did have 49y rushing which is impressive considering the negative sack yardage. Gaskin 27-202 (7.5), Lindsay 19-68 (3.6).

37-34 Arizona St lead for almost the entire game until Ore took their first lead 35-34 with just 6m left in the game. ASU drove 11p 57y making a 41y FG to regain the lead with 2m left, then Ducks were SOD on their final 2 poss. A Duck 2nd qrt TD was a 1p 16y drive following ASU fumbled punt. ASU edges: 589-401 (5.3-6.2) TY, 347-281 (8.9-8.0) PY, 142-120 (2.7-4.0) RY and 38-22 TOP. Ore D had 4 sacks. Wilkins made more plays with his legs, season high 35y net rushing with 2 TDs. Each team lost 1 fumble, no INTs.

58-34 Stanford wins 10th straight vs UCLA. Both teams started slow 1st qrt. Stan drove for opening FG, then a Stan fumbled handed UCLA a FG on a 5 yard “drive”. A UCLA INT handed Stan a FG on a 3y “drive”. 6-3 after 1st qrt. After a 45y Bruin FG, UCLA would later drive 5p 71y for a 13-6 lead and later they drove 7p 80y with a 1st and goal at the 10, but had to settle for a FG att, which was blk’d. Stanford took control from there. Bryce Love ripped off 27 and 32y runs and Stan tied it 13-13. Stan took their next drive for a TD and then UCLA fumbled and Stan got the ball at UCLA30 with :35 left in the half for an easy FG to lead 23-13. Stan could not be stopped in the 2nd half withTDs on all 5 possessions and UCLA couldn’t keep up scoring 3 TDs of their own, but their other 2 possessions ending in a fumble and INT. Bryce Love 30-263-TD. SoSo Jamabo did rush 12-100-TD (aided by 49y rush). Rosen 40-60-480-3-2. QB Chryst was injured early and Costello came in 13-19-123-2-0 and added 15 rushing with TD. They also used Burns situationally. Stan CB Holder was ejected 2nd H for targeting.

There is some hidden stuff not included in the utah-Zona stat line too fwiw. Missed uncovered receiver for a TD , dropped td (maybe he would get tackled inside the five?) by uncovered player.

Washington is just too physical for Colorado. Colorado came out stoked in the 1h but simply ran out of gas--like last year

Just a few others. SEC usually gets covered pretty good in gps_3’s thread.

CUSA

46-43 North Texas wins although they led 23-7 and 30-14 HT and 37-21 3rd qrt, but UAB ralled to tie 43-43 with :27 left. NTex kicked the go-ahead FG with :07 left. NT got a 48y KO ret and a 34y run to set up the game winner. NT owned 28-16 FD, 548-395 (7.5-5.5) TY and 287-74 RY (6.5-2.1), but UAB outpassed them 321-261, each about 9 ypa and 50%. NT fumbled at UAB20 and UAB14. They also kicked FGs from the 12, 23, 28 and 12 yard lines. Each team lost 2 TOs. NT D got 4 sacks. NT RB Jeffrey Wilson rushed 26-211-TD (did lose 2 fum) – he is the #1 rusher in CUSA.

MWC

28-21 Wyoming wins in OT. UH D had held WYO to 269y (11 FD), that was the fewest yards allowed by UH D in 4+ years. Warrior O amassed 450y and 24 FD, although the ypp was equal 5.8-5.6. Dru Brown was 29-40-280-1-2 while Josh Allen just 9-19-92-1-0. It was Brown’s INTs that proved costly. The first being at the W2 and the 2nd in OT at the W15.

28-24 SD St over AF in cold strong wind and pouring rain. AF had leads of 6-0, 9-0, 9-7, 17-14 and 24-21 before Penny busted a 53y TD run with 5m left for the final score. AF had to punt with 2:12 left, but did force a SD St punt, the Falcon’s final possession ended in INT. SD St did have 367-253 (6.4-3.8) TY edge as AF only passed 2 of 6 for 33y and that one INT. SD ST did miss a FG and fumbled at A22. A 17y punt and blk’d punt by AF led directly to 10 AF points on short fields.

61-10 Utah St boosted by a quick 17 pts in the 2nd qrt all off SJ St misques. It was 21-0 when Ut St scooped a fumble off a sack for a 38y D TD. 28-0. On the KO SJSt couldn’t handle the pooch kick and Ut St got the ball at the 28 leading to another TD. 35-0. Ut St blk’d a punt on the next possession set up a 23y FG. But it wasn’t all just fluke plays. SJ St O was nonexistent gaining just 10 FD and 162y. O wasn’t a problem for Ut St with 29 FD and 589y. SJ St turned it over 5x, while Ut St did lose 3 TOs of their own. SJ St’s only TD was a 68y pick-six.

I guess Allen still isn't healthy. And/or he's struggling to develop chem with his wr. Also new offensive gameplan has been shorter passing game, which is not his preferred style

Yeah he likes to wing it and count on his WRs and TEs to bail him out. Happened alot last year. Loved Wyoming last year, loved Allen...lots of oh noooooooooo....oh yessssss type plays. Even though I played Hawaii at 6.5 :( I felt that Wyo O would probably have a good game and perhaps Allen to have his best game - shocked at how that turned out so poorly for them. It is a mess in Laramie on O. If they can win this week and go into the bye, maybe they come out better on the other side. We'll see. They may've found a RB finally, FR Trey Woods, a converted LB, was at LB all fall camp and they started running him a couple weeks ago, had a big game vs Hawaii. I guess Hawaii had recruited him as well.

52 points on 620 yards in that afa sdsu game, huh? Jesus Christ I glanced at the box score but had no idea. That definitely belongs in the deceiving final thread. My god.

Big plays within long scoring drives:

SD St 4 TDs with drives of 73 (with 42y pass), 75 (with 20y TD rush), 75 (with 31 then 28y TD passes), 75 (with 22y pass and 43y TD rush)

AF 2 of their drives were 79 (with 29y TD run) and 75 yards (with 31y pass), but did have 10 pts off of just 12 yards due to those punting issues.
