Week 3 - What We Learned / What We Saw

- In general, that was some outstanding drama all around yesterday. It’s no wonder we love the sport so much.

- Hard for me not to start with the Horns. At this rate heading for a 4 or 5 loss season. Offense? I mean, yes, who the hell thought we'd be looking at Michigan State and Brian Lewerke? Manning is a mess - can't walk and chew gum at the same time. Shaky in Columbus is one thing. 10 straight incompletions, at home, against UTEP, is another. There's mental and / or physical issues. Then there's no push from the o-line, no explosiveness at RB and a WR corp that, generally, looks to have fallen in love with its press clippings.

- On the flip side, OU. I love it when teams come off a big, national win at home and then go on the road and put their foot on the throats of a bad team, immediately. OU was getting 7 points earlier this week in the Cotton Bowl v. Horns. I hope some of you grabbed this.

- Good win for A&M but whoever decided it should opt for those Sun Belt-like helmets should be fired. Goodness gracious.

- As bad as Manning (and Lagway) were, hats off to Ty Simpson. He sees the field so well and the game has slowed to a snail's pace in his eyes.

- Georgia is just one bad dream for Tennessee. If the games could just be shortened to just a quarter….But Tennessee has a QB, let there be no doubt.

- As long as LSU can get mistake-free play from Nussmeier it can win a national championship. Its defense is all that and more.

- I love everything about Brent Key, all the way from his team preparation to in-game adjustments to his interviews / pressers. On the flip side, I still don’t know how Pitt lost to West Virginia. Wait, yes I do.

- On the subject of coaching, someone better keep an eye on Dabo’s blood pressure.

Great stuff Frank!

The turnaround of the LSU defense is easily the biggest surprise this year!
