Goodbye to Romance College Football
I go in order of early games to late games.

Coastal Carolina only outgained Buffalo 444-408 (7.3-6.0). UB did have a lead in the 1st H for a bit at 14-7, but Coastal would lead 28-17 in the 4th Q when they had one of their two empty RZ possesions. Leading by 11 CC threw INT in the EZ. Earlier CC missed short FG. UB cut it to 28-25 under 3min left, kicked off deep and CC killed the clock. Buffalo was a strong 9-of-16 3rd down, Coastal 3-of-9. UB D had 3 sacks, 0 for Coastal. UB outrushed them 262-212 (5.6-5.0).

WVU led 14-0 5min into the game, 14-7 end of 1st Q. It was 21-7 late 1st H when WVU was threatening with a 1st and goal at the V02, but had to settle for a 21y FG. Then VT ret’d the ensuing KO 78y and VT had 1st and goal at the WV10, got as far as the WV02, but had to settle for a 24y FG which was missed! 24-7 HT. 27-14 end of 3rd Q. VT had a 1st and goal at the WV08, but Brumeister was sacked and fumbled on 4th down. WVU went three-and-out and VT quicking scored...27-21 3min left. VT kicked off deep. WVU tried throwing a screen pass, but it was high and INT’d at their own 25 giving VT a chance for the win. VT got down to the WV03 with a first and goal...two runs and two incompletions ended the game at 27-21. WVU had 369-329 (6.3-4.6) TY edge. WVY D got 6 sacks.

Pitt's only lead of the game was 7-0 in this version of what seems like annual games where they get upset at home. As bad as the Pitt pass D was last week, but Vols QB Milton couldn't connect, this week, the pass D was just as bad and Western Michigan QB Eleby made them pay passing 23-35-337-3-0 with most balls going to Crooms and Moore who combined for 19-285-2TDs. Pitt also couldn't stop the run either allowing WM's top 2 RBs 162y (4.5) while another recurring theme for Pitt was also true, they could not run, Pickett was their leading rusher 10att-49y net. Pitt RBs only rushed 12x for 37! Pickett left the game for a series after he hit the turf hard following a run, a 19y run where he fumbled at the end which allowed WM to go up 14-7 and Broncos never looked back. Pickett kept Pitt in striking distance, but in the 4th Q after Pitt tied it 34-34 the Pitt D couldn't get WM off the field allowing them to convert 3rd down twice to go up 41-34. Pitt converted 4th down, but then were sacked on 4th down and again the Pitt D couldn't keep WM points off the board, the Broncos added a FG to go back up 10 under 6min left. Pitt got within 44-41 but there was no hope Pitt D could possibly get the ball back for their offense, they kicked deep and the Broncos killed the final 3:48 ending at the P17. WM outgained them 517-490 (6-8.4). WM was 7-of-17 3rd down, Pitt was just 1-of-8.

Army led 42-0 HT, 52-21 F. TOP was 40:36-19:24 for Army with TY being 504-225 (7.2-5.0)

Michigan St repeatedly beat Miami with short passes and screens while the Spartan D gave up yards and catches, but came through with critical turnovers that were the difference in the game. King fumbled a the MSU29 to open the game, threw an INT at the MSU31, was sacked and fumbled at the MIA17 to open 4th Q (short drive ensuing drive put MSU 24-14) and threw an INT at the MIA23 (short ensuing drive put MSU up 38-17 with under 3min left). 14 pts off turnovers and prevented potential Miami points on others. Sparty outrushed them 193-52 (4.7-2.2) and outgained them overall 454-440 (6.3-5.2).

Boston College got a big opening KO return to kick start them...BC led 21-0 HT yet didn't score again until late 4th Q. Temple was SOD at the BC32 in the 1st H and BC21 and BC34 in the 2nd H. Temple outgained them 239-221 (4-4.6) while losing 3-28. Grosel made his 9th career start for the Eagles and only hit 7-of-15 passing for 59 yards! 1-1 ratio! BC's 187 RY were aided by a Flowers 47y run. Lynch started his second game for Temple was sacked 4x and under frequent duress.

Indiana defense dominated nearly the entire 1st H, Cincinnati didn't get past their own 40 on their first 6 drives of the game and threw an INT and lost a fumble! Hoosier O wasn't as great, but did convert both turnovers on short fields into TDs and a 14-0 lead. Then with 2-1/2 min left in the 1st H a key targeting call on a 3rd down incompletion took place on Ridder, IU defensive leader McFadden was ejected and UC would continue on for their first TD. Pennix threw his first of two INTs on the next drive with just :23 left and UC was able to make it a 14-10 game. IU had a 1st H yard edge of 232-106. IU punted from near their own EZ to open the 3rd Q and UC started at the I30 but missed a 50y FG. IU went 3-and-out again and UC drove for TD, a drive that was kept alive by a 5y penalty on IU creating a 4th-and-1, which UC converted on their way to a 17-14 lead having scored 17 unanswered points and tons of momentum. IU fired the offense back up and drove down to retake a 21-17 lead. Then the second key moment happened, UC ret'd the KO 99y for TD giving them the 23-21 lead. IU converted a couple 3rd downs and retook a 24-23 lead on a 49y FG end of 3rd Q. UC would go up 30-24 (aided by roughing passer). But Hoosiers were poised to retake the lead mid 4th Q when IU RB fumbled on 1st and goal at the C04. IU D forced a punt, but Penix second INT ended hope after UC ret'd it down to the IU06 and would post a 38-24 lead with 2:29 left. IU outgained them 376-328 (4.9-4.6), IU lost 4 turnovers, UC lost 2. UC was 4-for-5 scoring TDs in the RZ, IU was just 3-of-6 TDs in the RZ.

I had to do a double take when I saw that box. What happened to Grosel? Hasn’t he performed at least competently when he’s played previously?

He has. However before the current coaching staff arrived when he stepped in to replace the injured Anthony Brown at QB, Grosel struggled quite a bit then. I think he can be better than he was vs Temple...I didn't watch much of the game personally but reading he obviously missed some throws and the gameplan didn't look to establish much of a passing rhythm for him. I'd expect perhaps he will improve to just ok and maybe occasionally he'll have a good game. I'm sure he is a way better player now than 2019, if you look back to 2019 it gives you an idea the kind of up and down games BC could be in store for.

I'm going to work on some this morning before I have to leave and then will see what I can do tonight.

Texas A&M scored TDs among their first 4 plays of the game which were set up by a good punt return and the other with a blown coverage allowing a 70y TD pass. New Mexico did settle down to allow just 13 points over the next 6 Aggie possessions, but the Lobo O did not drive into Aggie territory all game. The only time they were on the other side of the 50 is when an INT started them there. TY 429-122 (6.4-2.1). Aggie D got 11 TFL with 4 sacks and 5 additional QBH which isn't surprising, but check the Lobos getting 6 TFLs with 3 sacks and 4 QBH. Calzada 19-33-275-3-1 Wilson 10-23-33-0-1

Michigan scored TDs on their first 9 drives of the game. Their 10th and 11th possesion ended at the N32 and N31 yard lines SOD. NIU drove into Michigan territory just twice, they did score on both, a 1st H FG and a mid-4th Q TD. McNamara attempted just 11 passes completing 8 for 191y with a 87y TD. Michigan ran 48x-373 (7.8). TY were 606-207 (9.3-3.9) for Mich.

Oklahoma had a long opening drive for TD, but their other four possessions of the 1st H were punt, missed 54y FG, punt and end of half (started this possession at own 10 with 1min left). In the game 7 of of OU's 9 possessions started at their own 25 or worse, 3 started at the 10 or worse. Nebraska O was able to stay on the field, but could only manage two FGA, one miss and one make. 7-3 HT! OU did score back-to-back TDs to open the 3rd Q (again long drives). It was 23-9 with OU having a blk'd xpt run back the other way for 2. Nebraska was trying to cut into the lead 4th Q when UN had 1st down in the RZ but ultimately threw INT on 4th down. OU was forced to punt from their own EZ and UN started the drive at the O38 and 3 plays later scored the final points of the game. 23-16. OU killed 5min off the clock and UN took over with just :57 left and could get no further than their own 25. OU had 408-384 (5.9-6.1) TY edge and OU D got 5 sacks (10 TFL total with 4 additional QBH). OU did convert 55% 3rd down, Nebraska converted 43%.

Kentucky opened with a TD drive, but Chattanooga responded with a big 48y 3rd down run and then a 3rd down TD pass to tie! UK went up 14-7 then Levis threw INT ret'd to the K15 leading to a Moc's 27y FG. Late in the 1st H UK was at the C30 going for a 4th-and-5 but Levis was sacked and fumbled. 1st H TY were 244-101 for Cats. After Chattanooga's 1st drive of the game, they did not get another FD the entire 1st H but the score was just 14-10 HT. UK came out of the locker room uninspired. Again, Chattanooga opened with a scoring drive where they did convert 3rd down and kicked a FG for a 14-13 game. UK's first two drives of the 2nd H were TFL on 3rd and 2 - punt and next possession threw 1st down INT. Mocs outgained them in the 3rd Q. They took that INT and drove down for another FG and a 16-14 lead early 4th Q. UK went back up 21-16 and then added a 95y pick-six for the 28-16 lead. Mocs took over at their own 25 and almost 7min and 14 plays later scored TD...28-23, UK recovered the onside kick. Thanks to a strong Chattanooga 2nd H, UK only outgained them 356-339 (5.7-5.4). Mocs outrushed them 171-102 (6.1-3.8)! UK lost 3 turnovers to Chatt's 1. Chatt converted 5-of-8 3rd down in the 2nd H after only converting 2-of-7 1st H. UK finished 5-of-11 3rd down for the game.

Minnesota dominated Colorado, the 1st H Minn led just 13-0 despite having a 225-7 TY edge at HT (2 TDs with missed xp and Min missed 23y FG after long drive). In the game, Colorado did not advance past the 50 until CU's final possession, when they got to the M46 and were SOD. FDs were 22-6! TY 441-63 (6.3-1.4)! Both teams did struggle on 3rd down, Min was just 3-of-11, CU was 2-of-12. TOP 2:1 for Min

Kansas St was playing from ahead most of the game thanks to an opening 68y TD pass, Nevada tied at 7-7, but it was 17-7 HT. Nevada would tie again at 17-17. K St went back up 24-17 early 4th Q, then Nev was SOD 1 yard short at the K38. 6 minutes later it was 31-17 ending any realistic hopes of a Nevada comeback. After Nev was again SOD, K St added the final TD with 1min left...38-17 F. TY were just 398-331 (6.5-5.2). KSt had 10 pts off short fields following SOD and INT and 163 of K St's yards came on their final 3 drives where they scored 3 straight TDs. Both teams converted 55-47% range 3rd down. K St ran for 269 (5.6). Strong 27-40-262-1-1 (sacked 3x), Nev only ran for 25y net.

Notre Dame won 27-13, but that does not reflect how close this game was throughout. The game was briefly an 11 pt margin for a couple minutes in the 3rd Q, but it was a one score game for all but the final 5 minutes really when ND ripped off a 51y run to give them the final margin of victory. Purdue got to the N11 on their second to last poss, but threw INT as they did on their final poss of the game. ND did benefit from several big plays (8plays resulted in 243 yards). Both offenses struggled at times with each having a few 3-and-out punt possessions. ND actually punted on their first 3 drives to open the game. Each team had struggles in the RZ as well. ND kicked 2 FGs with 0 TDs on their RZ trips. Pur only scored 1 TD on their 4 RZ trips. Teams were a nearly identical 4-of-16 / 4-of-17 3rd down rate. Pur D got 4 sacks, ND got 3. Purdue actually outgained them 348-343 (4.4-5.2). ND ran for just 120 (3.5ypc) which includes the 51 yarder at the end of the game.

I'm slacking and tired tonight. I will be doing some Tuesday and try to get a bunch done.

Reactions: KJ
Baylor rushed for 307 enroute to outgaining KU 576-166 (8.3-3.3). Baylor only led 14-7 HT as Baylor fumbled at the K32 and punted from the K48. KU's TD drive was aided by a PI call. Bears scored TDs on 4 of their 5 opening possessions of the 2nd H. Baylor also fumbled again at the K32. Bohanon 19-23-269-2-0

Miami Oh struggled some early vs Long Island. In the middle of the game they got it started and scored TDs on 5 straight possessions in the end outgaining them 523-216 (8.6-3.7). Miami is playing both QBs Gabbert and Mayer, sometimes within the same drive.

Rutgers went up 14-0 then led 21-7 after a 62y TD pass and it was 35-10 HT after a Cruickshank punt ret TD. Rutger D 5 sacks. Rutgers converted 10-of-14 3rd downs. Rushing yards were only 163-159 (4.3-4.7) for the Knights. Vedral got a stat padding game 21-26-323-2-0

UMass was a little short handed vs Eastern Michigan, Minuteman started slow (SOD at EM31 and threw INT) and EM jumped on them 21-0. After that, the game was fairly even. 21-7 HT, 28-14, 35-14, 35-21, 42-21, 42-28. UMass actually outgained them 519-507 (7.1-7.7) and surprisingly outrushed them 206-184 (6.1-4.4).

Iowa got on the board first when a bad snap went over Kent St QB's head and he was tackled for a safety. Iowa got a 46y TD run on 3rd-and-1 and then Kent went on a TD drive hitting some chunk plays in the process...9-7. Iowa fumbled at the K22. After an exchange of punts, Kent drove to the I28 with a FD, but after a sack would ultimately punt downing the ball at the I05. Iowa would go on a 9 minute drive, converted 3rd down 4x and led 16-7 HT. Kent was SOD at the I35 to open the 3rd, Iowa punted and Kent drove, converted a 4th-and-1 on their way and had a 1st and goal at the I01 yardline. Kent RB was tackled short of the EZ, but as he twisted extended the ball out over his head backwards where it was knocked free and Iowa fell on the ball for a touchback. Iowa converted a 4th down on their 80y TD drive to go up 23-7 as the 3rd Q was ending. Iowa's next possession they were SOD at the K39 and Kent drove into Iowa territory but were sacked on back to back plays and had to punt. Exchanging punts to under 6min to go in the game. Iowa got 14y and 48y passes and would score TD with 4min left...30-7. Kent put the backup QB in as they did at Texas A&M once the game got out of reach. Iowa was stopped on their second 4th down of the 4th Q, this one a 4th-and-1. Iowa was 50% 3rd down, Kent struggled 3-of-13. Iowa D got 7 sacks. Iowa outgained them 418-264 (5.6-4.1).

For the second straight week, Akron jumped out to a 14-0 lead. Bryant tied at 14-14, but unlike last week, this time Akron pulled away to win 35-14. This was Bryant's first ever game vs FBS. Zips outgained them 514-146 (8.6-2.6) with QB Irons starting for injured Nelson. Irons was named MAC E O POW going 19-23-296-3-0 and led team rushing with 15-136-TD.

Wake Forest forced 6 FSU turnovers (WF +4). WF actually turned it over themselves on their first possession, but FSU gave it back. WF went up 14-0 with a roughing punter penalty keeping Deacs drive alive. FSU was able to score, but WF answered right back...21-7. WF turned a short field after INT into a FG...it would be 27-14 HT. WF made it 34-14 after a 90y drive early 3rd Q ,but would not score again. FSU was SOD at the W13. Fumbled into the EZ for a touchback and their final two possessions ended with an INT and fumble. WF outgained them 484-317 (5.4-6.2). FSU was just 1-of-6 3rd down! WF was 8-of-17. WF outrushed them 225 (3.9) to 91 (3.1).

USC QB Kedon Slovis was knocked out of the game vs Wash St on the first possession. Enter Jaxson Dart who would throw for the most yards in a USC debut and was the first USC QB to lead the team in rushing since 2010. Dart went 30-46-391-4-2 being named PAC12 O POW. It wasn't all great early though. USC punted twice and turned it over twice, while Wazzou built a 14-0 lead. On 4th and 9, USC threw a deep TD pass with just :32 left in the 1st H. From there, it was all Trojans. W St fumbled the 2nd H KO and the wheels came off, USC scored 45 straight points including a D TD and some score drives off short fields. W St QB Jayden de Laura DNP 2nd H (came out after HT then went to locker room before 3rd Q started). USC outgained them 447-279 (6.1-4.4). USC still wasn't able or interested to run the ball much. Ingram and Malepeai combined for just 16 attempts and 25 yards. London however caught 13-170-2TD.

Arkansas connected on a deep ball first play of game and went up 7-0 quick. Then on their next possession were punting from their goal line on 4th-and-4, but Georgia Southern jumped offside keeping Ark drive alive. GaSo later roughed QB to help Ark go 15p 94y for 14-0 lead. Ark went 3-and-out punt the next two series then Ark would go on 99y TD drive (keyed by a 48y run). GaSo didn't cross the 50 until their 6th possession of the game. Was 21-0 when GaSo QB dropped back on 3rd-and-11 and scrambled out of pressure for a 76y TD run! Ark had TD called back by penalty and added a FG 24-7. GaSo went on their best drive of the game so far in the final minutes of the 2nd Q, converted a couple 3rd downs and got into the RZ but settled for a FG as time expired...24-10. In the 2nd H GaSo only crossed midfield on 1 of their 5 possessions, Ark got 60y TD pass and 91y TD pass in the 45-10 Final. Ark 633-233 TY (8.7-3.7). Jefferson 13-23-366-3-0

Tough pill to swallow for Louisiana Tech losing on the final play of the game. SMU did outgain them 578-483 (6.6-7.0). SMU was only 50% TDs in the RZ (3-of-6) and also had an empty RZ possession. LaTech was 4-for-4 RZ TDs. scored first 7-0 and led 14-7 after SMU was SOD at the LT01 (LT 99y drive for TD), but come early 3rd Q SMU led 23-14...it was 26-21 after SMU kicked two short FGs then LaTech took 28-26 lead back until the final minute of the 3rd Q, LaTech threw INT and SMU got a big return down to the LT09 and scored TD....33-28. Mid 4th Q. LT scored (2pt no good) to go up by 1...34-33. SMU was called for a huge O PI call on what otherwise would've been a 3rd and long conversion and instead would have to punt with just 3min left. SMU had a TD called back for holding (it was) and now had 1st and 20. On 4th-and-16 they kicked a 47y FG...37-33 with :36 left. SMU would complete for 11y, QB run for 15y, pass for 14y and with just :06 left they took the final snap, Mordecai avoided the rush and threw to a cluster of players in the EZ, the ball bounced up off players perfectly into the waiting hands of Reggie Roberson who was standing all by himself for the walk off win.

So often these dd dogs find the craziest ways to lose a game. Guess that why they such big dogs in the 1st place, lol. Always finding some crazy way to lose a game they shoulda won, this was def up there on the crazy way to lose scale!

Skip Holtz drives LaTech fans nuts on message boards. So much to second guess. The holding call when LaTech was trying to salt the game away was a killer penalty. Maybe LT could've been more aggressive after that, but they were trying to kill clock and get SMU to use timeouts also. I guarantee you that any LaTech fan (I'm not a fan just a gambler), any LaTech fan would've told you when they had to kick the FG and give SMU the ball back that LaTech fans fully expected them to lose the game.

Hunter Johnson started for NW and was pulled after going just 6-of-16-75-0-3! He was off from the start badly missing open receivers on first drive. Duke would lead 27-0 and 30-7 HT! NW went 3-and-out twice to start, fumble at D13 after good drive and then back-to-back INTs, punt and third INT. Andrew Marty came in and led NW to their first points of the day. Marty finished 11-16-151-2-0 with 44y rushing and TD. Duke got 13 points off 4 NW 1st H turnovers (Duke turned it over themselves on one of those). NW actually got a 7y "drive" after a Duke fumble in the 2nd H. NW scored 16 unanswered points in the 2nd H (2 TDs with missed xpt and FG) to make a game of it. Was too little too late, NW kicked off deep after their FG and Duke killed the final 3min. Duke had 558-407 TY edge (7.8-6.7) and outrushed them 208-147 (3.9-4.6). Duke was penalized 10x for 104y.

Ohio State only led 13-6 HT vs Tulsa! It was only 27-20 early 4th Q...OSU scored twice to end the game including a very late 61y pick-six to make the final look more respectable. What isn't respectable is that Tulsa gained 501 yards and 6.1ypp! OSU barely outgained them with 508 (7.7). Tulsa was in the RZ 4x and could only score TDs on 2 of those. Stroud 15-25-185-1-1. Henderson 24-277-3TD (OSU frosh record yards). He had 48 and 52 yard TD runs. Tulsa QB Brin Davis 31-54-428-2-2 without Tulsa's best receiver (Keylon Stokes out).

Alabama led 21-3 after the 1st Q (one short field TD following INT). UF was SOD at the AL37, but after back-to-back Bama 3-and-outs, UF benefitted from a 4th down PI call to keep a drive alive and scored TD, but xpt no good which would be key later. 21-9 HT. UF converted 4th down on their way to a TD to open 3rd Q...21-16. Bama went on a long drive and finished with a TD on 4th-and-1 from the F03 to extend 28-16. But UF came right back scoring before end of 3rd Q. 28-23. Bama drove for 1st-goal at F02, but had to settle for FG..31-23. Again UF went down to score, converted a 4th down along the way, but having to go for 2 with just 2min left in the game UF QB Emory Jones hesitated on the zone read allowing Bama D to stop the play. Bama was able to kill all but the final :04 of the game. UF actually outgained them 439-331 (6.2-5.3) including rushing for 244 (5.7)! Bama only rushed for 91y (3.3). Young 22-35-240-3-0.

Georgia Tech - Clemson saw a nearly 2 hour weather delay. GT punted from their own EZ and Clemson drove 8p 39y for a 7-0 lead. Clemson would not score again until the 4th Q. Clemson was SOD at the G19 on 4th-and-1 in the 2nd Q. GT had a 14p 66y drive, converted a 4th-1 and would kick a 22y FG to make it 7-3. Neither team scored in the 3rd Q, but early 4th Q Clemson fumbled at the G17, GT goes 3-and-out and Clemson goes down for a 14-3 lead. GT would go 16p 70y which included a 4th-7 conversion, Jackets had 1st-goal at C07 but would settle for 22y FG...14-6 1min left. GT recovered the onside kick! A roughing the passer call started them out and GT would again find themselves with a 1st-goal at the C03, two incompletions and a rush later it was 4th down. Clemson stopped a shovel pass just inches short of the EZ with :15 left. Clemson would fumble! but fell on it in the EZ for a safety! GT got two more plays after the free kickoff but the game would end 14-8. GT outgained them 298-284 (4.1-4.3). Clemson outrushed them 158-95 (3.9-2.5). Each team lost 1 turnover. GT was in the RZ 3x and got 2 short FGs. Clemson was in the RZ 4x but only scored twice (2 TDs). Clemson D 4 sacks and 7 additional QBH.

Colorado State would win off of 5 FGs and a 70y punt return to beat Toledo 22-6! CSU D came up big with 6 sacks and totaled 10 TFL! Toledo would be SOD at the C13, C37, fumble at own 37, SOD own 34. CSU would get 9 points off of short fields following SODs and the fumble. CSU outrushed them 209-21 (4.3-0.8), leading UT rusher had just 32y on 13 att. Without their leading WR, CSU targeted TE Trey McBride 15x! He caught 9 of CSU's 11 completed passes.

Good god. How bad your defense gotta be to allow duke to have over 500 yards on offense? I’m starting to wonder if NW is still gonna give us one those typical incredibly unlikely upsets later in year I love bout them?

Duke has a really strong running game. It is surprising that Duke was able to have such a huge game through the air.

I might've seen that NW QB who came off the bench Andrew Marty got dinged up? If he can play they need to ride him the rest of the year. Everyone has seen enough Hunter Johnson.

Been wondering where the Colorado st pass rush had been? It been absent this year after it being a real strength the team last season.

Memphis scored two nonoffensive TDs in their 31-29 win over Miss State. The first opened the scoring, a 49y fumble return TD and the other was the controversial 94y punt return TD, where a MSU player tried catching the punt to keep it from going in the EZ, it went through his hands and then a second MSU player touched the ball on the field, all while punt returner Calvin Austin was standing off to the side, he had run away from the ball to try and pull MSU defenders with him so the ball would hopefully go in the EZ. The ball is live on the field despite being touched and the punt returner is free to pick up the ball and advance it until the referee signals dead ball. In this instance, the referee was blowing the ball dead as the Memphis player picked it up and would run 94y for TD to make the Memphis lead 28-17. This error of the inadvertent whistle should've put the ball at the 6 yard line, instead the dead ball signal was ignored, not reviewed and Memphis got a huge momentum play in the game. Another key play was following a Memphis INT, MSU ret'd it down to the MEM14 and would be SOD at the MEM02. Due to the D and ST TDs, Miss St actually outgained them 469-246 (5.7-4.6). Memphis had been a machine running the ball, but MSU held them to 87y (3.5). Memphis was just 2-of-12 3rd down to MSU's 9-of-17. Memphis O was never even in the red zone all game! Both O TDs were from 21 and 25 yards out.

Cal scored TDs on their first two possesions to lead 14-6, but then went 3-and-out twice sandwiched around an INT. Was 21-6 HT with Sac State missing 2 FGs. Cal ret'd 2nd H opening KO 28-6, 28-13, 35-13, 35-20, 42-20, 42-23, 42-30. Cal outgained them 534-467 (8.0-6.1), outrushed them 246-59 (7.5-2.7). Sac St was actually in the RZ 7x! scored 3 TDs and 1 FG. Somewhat surprising to see Cal with only 2 TFL and 0 sacks in this game.

Wyoming got two pick-six TDs in the win vs Ball State. BSU could never get much of anything going as the offense sputtered until mid 3rd Q with the game already out of reach. WYO led 31-0 before BSU scored any points. TY were 378-260 (6.1-3.5) for WYO. BSU -3 TOs. WYO D 6 sacks.

Washington did go 3-and-out on their first possession, but then reeled off 4 long TD drives to lead 28-0. Ark St did miss a 33y FG. It was 35-0 before Ark St got on the board. 52-3 F. UW outgained them 598-268 (7.2-3.7). Reportedly UW ran playaction pass plays 43% of drop backs, compared to just 20% of the time their previous 2 games. UW ran 11 RPOs compared to just 6 the previous 2 games. UW got WR McMillan back this week and he posted 10-175-TD. Morris 23-39-367-3-2. Blackman 16-38-176-0-0, Hatcher in limited duty 6-11-44-0-1. Surprising that UW only got 3 sacks on 52 of UW's drop backs while not officially being credited with any QBH.

Bowling Green defeated Murray State, the team that the week before was tied with Cincinnati. BG led 10-0, but Murray came back to tie before BG scored the games final 17 pts. BG outgained them 339-201. BG was penalized 12x for 135.

Florida Atlantic only led Fordham 14-7 HT. FAU outscored them 31-7 2nd H. FAU went 3-and-out twice to start and once again in the 2nd Q. Owls did miss a short FG and ended the 1st H at the Ford11. Part of FAU's 2nd H scoring was a pick-six. FAU had 32-9 FD edge, 547-237 TY edge (5.8-4.1). Fordham converted just 1-of-15 3rd down (55% for FAU).

Liberty beat ODU 45-17 as 26 point favorites. ODU has just 9 seniors, the fewest in the country. 68 of their players are true or second year freshman. Liberty led 21-3 and would maintain an 11-18pt margin for most of the game until Liberty scored the game's final 17 points. Liberty outgained them 424-201 (6.1-3.2). ODU did sack Willis 3x, but ODU QB Mack was sacked 5x.

Marshall led ECU 38-21 after 3rd Q. With their 17 point lead, MU went for a 4th-2 at the E22 and failed less than 1min into the 4th Q. ECU scored their first TD of the comeback mid-4th Q. 38-28. MU missed a 31y FG. ECU went for another TD...38-35 2:31 left and Pirates recovered the onside kick! ECU scored again for the lead 42-38 with :55 left. MU moved down deep into ECU territory with :11 left, but Wells was INT'd at the E01 with just :06 left. That was MU's third TO lost in the game, another critical one was a fumble into the EZ in 3rd Q. MU did outgain them 647-563 (8.5-6.2) including 214-168 RY (5.9-4.2). MU D did get 5 sacks. Wells 24-39-433-1-2. Ahlers 30-48-368-2-0.

UTSA led 27-0 4th Q before MTSU got on the board. 27-13 F. UTSA outgained them 452-199 (5.1-3.6). 123 of MTSU's yards were on their final 2 drives of the game where they got 2 garbage TDs. UTSA missed a FG and had 1 blocked. UTSA fumbled at the MT31 and threw 2 INTs in MT terr. UTSA D got 5 sacks. MTSU was just 2-of-14 3rd down (UTSA 50%).

Incarnate Word beat an FBS team for the first time in program history. TxSt scored first following a muffed punt, but UIW tied and then took 14-7 lead. The lead would go back and forth, 14-14, 14-17, 21-17, 21-24, 28-24, 28-31, 35-31, 42-31 until TxSt scored with under 1min left to make it 42-34 but UIW recovered the onside kick. TY about even 460-455 (5.4-6.5) for TxSt. TxSt did run for 182(4.1) to 79 (3.4). UIW lost 3 TOs, TxSt lost 2 TOs. TxSt did have to settle for 2 RZ FGs.

FIU went up 7-0, then Texas Tech got a 72y pick-six to tie. TT went up 14-7, but FIU would tie. TT scored 21 unanswered to lead 35-14 HT. 54-21 F. TT kicked two short FGs as well. TY were 584-246 (7.9-4.2).

Southern Miss started Tr Fr QB Ty Keyes and he struggled. Troy sacked him 9x as part of 16 total TFL! Keyes completed just 16-27-157-0-2. Gore was held to just 31y on 15att. USM did lead 3-0 HT, but Troy scored 3 straight TDs in the 2nd H in the 21-9 F. Troy outgained them 304-156 (4.2-2.4). Neither team could run. USM id record 4 sacks as well.

Charlotte and Georgia State were locked in a defensive battle. GaSt was poised to score first in the 2nd Q, on a break away 64y run, but Coates was stripped at the C03! Charlotte then converted 4th down twice on their way to a 7-0 lead. GaSt got 2 big passes to tie 7-7 HT. GaSt was called for intentional grounding in the EZ to momentarily give Char the 9-7 lead. GaSt went up 13-9 (xpt blk'd). Char would then lose their own fumble in the RZ, but GaSt would give it back later on the drive with an INT. GaSt scored with under 2min left for the final 20-9 margin. GaSt did outgain them 437-276 (7.2-4.1) with a 298-118 RY edge (6.1-3.0). GaSt went with Furman transfer Darren Grainger at QB he went 6-12-139-2-1 and added 64y rushing.

As PAC12 member, Utah was 27-1 vs noncon opponents entering this season. They have now lost back-to-back games vs noncon teams. A week after BYU outplayed Utah at the LOS, it happened again this week, San Diego State outrushed them 204-70. Utah has -10 yards of O after the first 3 possessions of the game. It wasn't all bad for Utah, SD St finished the 1st Q with just 27 yards. At HT the TY were just 89-79 for Utah in the 10-10 tie game (both TDs were special teams a KO ret for SDSt and a punt ret for Utah). SD St took a 17-10 lead on a drive that was sparked by a QB run for 54y. SD St would never trail again in regulation, in fact they built on their lead following an INT and return down to the U07...24-10. Utah went to backup QB Cam Rising late in the 3rd Q and he led the comeback scoring two 4th Q TDs, the final one came with just :16 left and got the necessary 2pt conversion to tie. since Utah had missed xpt on their first comeback TD. They traded scores in the OT1, each missed a FG in OT2 and in OT3, SD St got their 2pt play, Utah appeared to score their's as well with the receiver catching the pass in the EZ however while going to the ground the ball hit the groun and replay ruled it incomplete. Among the special teams issued for Utah, earlier in the game they had a punt blk'd but SD St was offside. SD St got 3 sacks and 7 additional QBH. Utah D just 1 sack. Johnson 10-19-44-1-0, 87y net rushing. Brewer 14-26-104-0-1, Rising 19-32-153-3-0, 46y net rushing. Teams were 20-30% 3rd down with Utah having a slightly better rate.

Georgia scored TDs on two 75y TD drives (one a 43y TD pass) South Carolina managed a FG and then UGA put in Stetson Bennett who was picked off and SC ret'd it down to the G12 and got a FG...14-6. Game was 40-6 in the 4th Q when UGA fumlbed at SC46 (was he down or not?) and SC took that drive for a TD, Georgia's first TD allowed all season 10min left in the game. Late 4th Q SC was actually down in the RZ again, but a 4th-goal pass was incomplete. UGA outgained them 491-310 (7.4-4.9) with 124 of SC's yards coming on their final 2 possessions. SC's best O most of the time was just throwing it up to Vann who caught 3 balls for 128y! I remember Georgia statisticians are very generous on the QBH, they gave them 26, sounds like a record or something (3 sacks). Daniels 23-31-303-3-1. Doty saw first action of the season 13-26-153-1-1, 15y rushing. SC was decent on 3rd down 8-of-17. UGA was 9-of-12.

UAB led 30-0 HT and won 40-6 vs North Texas outgaining them 407-220 (6.3-2.8). UAB was called for 11 penalties totaling 108y. Neither team was great on 3rd down, UAB didn't need to be they got 42, 61 and 38y TD passes in the 1st H. UAB actually settled for two RZ FGs.

Air Force led 10-0. It was 10-7 when AF threw an INT in the EZ from the U05 where QB Daniels thought he had an open receiver until LB Justin Rice stepped in front of him for the pick. Utah State took that 92y for the 13-10 lead (xpt no good). Outside of that INT, USU had trouble stopping AF, AF was actually doing well in predictable passing situations and kept grinding out drives on the ground as well. AF led 24-13 HT. USU scored TD to open 3rd Q, then AF ripped a 51y run scoring their 3rd straight TD. 31-20. USU hit a 35y pass and scored to stay in the game...31-27. USU got a critical 4th down stop mid 3rd Q where Daniels knee went down just before he lunged for the yardage to gain. USU got a 37y TD on 3rd-and-long to go up 34-31. But could they stop AF? Not this time as AF got a 55y TD run...38-34. It looked dark when USU threw INT on their next possession early 4th, but amazingly, USU D forced a 3-and-out! Unfortunately USU also went 3-and-out and AF would go up by 11 10min to go...45-34. USU got a 72y TD and then stuffed AF on 3rd -and-2, AF decided to punt with 6min to go. USU would bust a 61y TD run for the 49-45 lead! 4min left. Could they stop AF? This time, yes! Justin Rice stripped Daniels at the U25 saving the game! USU outgained them 628-619 (7.1-8.3). AF did run for 437 (6.9) to USU's 180 (4.6). USU converted a strong 14-of-21 3rd downs (and 2-of-3 4th down)! AF 8-of-13 (and 1-of-2 4th down). Bonner was injured a left the game for a couple series. Peasley stepped in like a champ passing 10-15-195-3-0 and added 29y rushing. Bonner came back in and finished the game 21-34-253-2-1.

Central Michigan turned the ball over on their first two possessions, one a scoop-and-score for LSU who built a 21-0 lead, 35-7 HT. CMich got most of their points and yards in the 2nd H, they did get a pick-six as well. LSU outgained them 484-284 (7.7-4.1) while Tigers only rushed for 84y (3.5). LSU D had 5 sacks and 15 total TFLs! Johnson 26-35-372-5-1.

NC State led 38-0 HT and won 45-7. Pack owned a 25-9 FD edge with 505-196 TY (7.4-3.7). NC ST only had 4 TFLs with 1 sack, but were credited with 7 QBH which were about 1/3 of Furman drop backs.

Tulane and Ole Miss were delayed almost 2 hours. OM tied SEC record with 41 FDs, Corral ran or passed for 7 TDs, tying the school record. He finished 23-31-335-3-0, 13att-68y-4TDs. OM led 13-0 when they fumbled creating a short field TD for Tulane...13-7. Was 19-7 (2pt no good) when Tulane missed a 27y FG. 26-7 then 26-14, Tulane was keeping it close. Tulane tried an onside kick, OM recovered, drove for TD, Tulane 3-and-out and OM scored again making it 40-14. Tulane was able to score TD before HT...40-21. OM had 448 1st H yards! Tulane was SOD near midfield to start the 3rd Q and OM soon had another TD, then Tulane fumbled the ensuing KO creating a short field TD for Rebels and it was 54-21 with 10min left in the 3rd Q! OM added a 45y TD pass to cap the scoring. Nobody scored in the 4th Q. TY were 707-305 (7.5-5.4). OM ran for 372 (6.1). Tulane was just 1-of-11 3rd downs and were also called for 11 penalties. OM was 50% 3rd down and 4-of-4 4th down.

Walkon New Mexico State QB Dino Maldonado, or "Dino Dimes" as he is known threw for 321y and 3 TDs. Aggies jumped out 22-0, 36-13 HT and 43-13 before South Carolina St scored the final 22 pts. 43-35 F. TY were the same, 428-428, but over half of SCSt's yards came after they were down big where nearly all of NMSU's yards came in the 1st H.

Stanford and Vanderbilt traded scores early with ties of 7-7 and 14-14. Stanford would've had another TD in there, but were SOD at the V02. And Vandy missed a FG. Stanford would lead 27-14 HT as the Vandy O went cold with 3-and-outs three straight possessions. Vandy threw INT also that led to a short field TD for Tree (makes up for SOD at V02 I suppose). Stanford scored a TD and Vandy scored a FG early 2nd H then there were 8 punts between them until Stanford scored a late 4th Q TD and Vandy scored a time expiring TD in the 41-23 F. Stanford only outgained them 422-398 (7.5-4.7) while Vandy outrushed them 247-204 (5.6-7.6). Stanford struggled on 3rd down converting just 2-of-9. Vandy was 5-of-18, but made 4-for-4 4th down!

Auburn went up 3-0 after stopping Penn St on 4th-and-1. They exchanged long TD drives...10-7. Penn St had another long drive for TD...14-10 HT. Auburn fumbled to open the 3rd Q and Penn St got a short field TD...21-10. Auburn responded with a TD mid 3rd Q...21-17. PSU fake punt was stopped short and Aub added FG...21-20. PSU extended to 28-20 11min to go. After exchanging punts, Auburn had two chances in the final minutes to tie the game. They drove for a 1st-and-goal, but were incomplete on 4th down from the P02 with 3min left. PSU punted and Auburn had the ball with :38 left. Aub got as far as the P26 with one final play left but their pass was incomplete. PSU had 396-367 (6.0-4.6) TY edge, Auburn outrushed them 182(4.6) to 94 (2.8). Each team lost 1 TO, although PSU’s harmlessly came at the end of the 1st H, while Auburn’s led to PSU TD. Auburn converted 10-of-17 3rd down, PSU was 50%. Neither team had a sack, but Auburn did have 11 TFLs.

UNC led 24-7, but ended up trailing 24-28 at HT! Heels scored TDs on all five 2nd H possessions to lead 52-31 before the teams exchanged late game TDs...59-39 F. UVA ended the game at the NC09 as time expired and in the 1st H fumbled at the NC18, with one RZ FG, UVA was just 3-for-6 TDs in the RZ. UNC was 5-of-7 RZ TDs (Heels threw INT from the UVA05). Howell 14-21-307-5-1 with 112y rushing on 15att (career high RY). UNC converted 7-of-9 3rd downs! UVA was 8-for-14 and 2-for-2 4th downs.

Texas led 44-0 HT with plenty of big plays and a blk’d punt for safety. Final was 58-0. Texas outgained Rice 620-284 (10-5.1) and Horns rushed for 427 (10.4). Rice QBs completed 19-of-24 passes but just for 128y.

Boise had leads of 10-0 and 20-7. A key moment with Oklahoma St facing a 3rd-18 at B21, when Sanders threw a ball over OSU WR and PI was called giving OSU the ball at the B06 where they scored from to make it 20-14 late 2nd Q. Then, first play of the next possession, Boise RB Holani fumbled giving OSU the ball at the B21 under 2min to go which OSU converted into a TD to lead 21-20. There was no scoring in the 2nd H, but it was not without drama. OSU had a 1st down at the B18, but a penalty and a sack would force them to punt. Boise went 3-and-out back to back and OSU missed a 41y FG. With under 6min left in the game, Bachmeier was picked off on a deep pass. OSU fumbled on 3rd down, Boise St scooped it up and was about to score a 41y D TD, but the refs blew the whistle ruling the OSU RB down. Replay showed he was not down, Boise was awarded the ball at the spot of recovery but the inadvertent whistle was a massive error. Bachmeier was sacked, but the refs called roughing the passer, on a sack in what seems like a “make up call” for blowing the fumble return opportunity Boise had. Boise got as far as the O19, but would miss / partially deflected the FG. With 2:05 left, Boise had 2 timeouts left. They forced a 3rd-and-7 with 1:53 to go. Sanders threw a fade ball to Cale Cabbiness, a walk-on Fr WR to seal the game. It was Cabbiness’ first reception of the year, normally, the announcers pointed out, he would be buried on the depth chart, but OSU were down several receivers who didn’t make the trip. OSU outgained them 328-303 (4.7*4.3), OSU ran for 246 (4.3) to Boise’s 61 (1.7). Sanders only attempted 10 passes, completing 6. Warren 32-218-2TD rushing. Holani only rushed for 28y on 12 att in his first “full-go” game of the year.

Arizona State fumbled the opening KO setting a tone of mistakes helping BYU to victory. After BYU used that short field to go up 7-0, BYU would go 3-and-out on their next three possessions. ASU would tie. ASU then threw an INT from the B19 which seemed to spark the BYU O as they got several chunk plays on their way to taking a 14-7 lead mid 2nd Q. After an ASU punt, BYU would again go down the field for a 21-7 lead! ASU threw their second INT in the final minutes of the 1st H, but BYU would throw INT in the EZ with :16 left before HT. ASU scored on their first possession of the 2nd H...21-14. With the BYU O again struggling, ASU would attempt to tie, but after having a 1st down at the B14 a couple penalties pushed them back and they had to settle for a 40y FG....21-17. The play of the game happened on BYU’s next drive. BYU had a 1st down at the A26 when Hall threw an INT, ASU LB was racing down the sideline, but was not only caught from behind, he was stripped of the ball, BYU fell on it to preserve the lead and momentum. BYU would eventually punt on that possession but downed it at the A05. ASU would be called for FOUR false start penalties backed up inside their own 20 this possession and had to punt from their own 14 despite picking up a 3rd-and-12 conversion on the same possession! BYU went on a 12p 73y drive for TD killing 5min in the process to put them up 27-17. ASU got the ball back with 1:19 left and got to the B27 as time expired. ASU outgained them 426-361 (6.9-5.4), but were called for 16 penalties totaling 121 yards! ASU runs a clap-snap count that was inaudible to the ASU players with the crowd noise resulting in several false starts. ASU was also concerned that a transfer to BYU would know their signals and shifts so ASU changed up some of their language and flipped some of their calls left-to-right and vise-versa – this resulted in more confusion on ASU’s part and busted plays. ASU lost 4 turnovers (BYU lost 2). Jayden Daniels has as many INTs in 3 games this year (3), as he has had in 2020 and 2019 combined! It also comes as no surprise that ASU ranks 130th in most penalties against them per game.

Including punts, UCLA was limited to just 15 plays in the 1st H vs Fresno St! Fresno led 23-10 at HT. Each team got a short field FG (Fres after fumble recovery, UCLA after punt return). UCLA was coming back in the 2nd H with scores of 23-17, 26-17, 26-24 and then Bruins went up 30-26 mid 4th Q after recovering a fumble at the F18. Fresno drove down into the RZ. Fresno was called for two penalties and the hits on Haener started taking a toll. He took a big hit to his hip and oblique area the play before he threw a dart TD pass on 3rd-and-19 to put Fresno back up 33-30 2:55 left. Haener was clearly in pain and having hard time standing and walking, let alone playing and throwing. The upset bid looked over when UCLA marched downfield in 2min to retake a 37-33 lead. Out comes hobbled Haener and the Fresno offense. 10y pass, 27y pass, 26y pass, one run and then a 13y TD pass with just :14 left! UCLA left the boundary open the entire drive and Fresno was able to make those passes and get out of bounds to stop the clock! Haener turned in an all time performance both physically, emotionally and statistically. He finished 39-53-455-2-1. Fresno outgained them 569-395 (6.3-7.5), UCLA only rushed for 117 (4.0). Rivers ran for 136 (6.5) for Fresno. Neither O was great on 3rd down. FResno had a 40 – 20 TOP edge.

Hawaii went up 7-0, that would be the only TD they would score as San Jose limited them to just 2 FGs the rest of the way. Hawaii did outgain them 369-291 (4.9-3.8) thanks to a multitude drops (12?) which stalled San Jose drives and stunted scoring opportunities. HC Brennan remarked about a "tricky" wind that was on the field that was effecting the ball and how the receivers were judging or miss judging them. Clinging to a 14-13 lead late in the 4th Q SJ had a 1st-10 at the H16 and would face a 4th-3, elected to kick a 26y FG to go up 17-13. That decision almost bit them, as UH was able to go down the field getting a final shot at the EZ with :01 left from the SJ21, but UH's pass was out of bounds. Surprisingly UH outrushed them 127-56 (3.4-2.2). UH loaded up to stop the run. Both team struggled on 3rd down, UH just 22% and SJ 35%

That's all folks~
