Week 2 w Marsski: Sooner Showdown

Marsski

MAC Marvel
11-7, +4.62 units

Made some good bets and some bad bets in week 1, pretty par for the course. But not a bad start.

I jumped on OSU -7 when I saw it yesterday as I had told myself I would take 7 or less. I never saw a 6.5.

It might be a short card this week as I didn't see too much I liked on first glance. I do lean Cincinnati but reading about how they struggled with Austin Peay has me scared. I think Michigan has some pretty serious QB issues right now though...

Really looking forward to the Oklahoma game and will be back in here later to share some thoughts.
I got a ticket and a few tailgates to hit so shaping up to be a big day on Saturday in Old Columbustown. Right now, sunny and 70 is the forecast for the day so probably 50s at gametime.

Week 2 Card:
Buckeyes -7 to win 2 units (-105)
Cincinnati +34 to win 1 unit (-107)
Oregon/Neb Over 68 to win 1 unit (-115)
M Tenn +10 to win 1 unit
Georgia +4.5 to win 1 unit (-116)

YTD: 15-8, +6.52

GL, Bucks look like the right side after sleepwalking through the first half last week and OU outperforming my expectations this weekend, Lincoln Riley's first roadie takes this to a different level...might be one to take Oklahoma at half, back door always open with a good if not great college QB but I think I like OSU here.

I wouldn't hold anything against UC, Austin Peay have a legit 1AA program and that game should only help the value with UC. There are some good posts around here about them.

Any thoughts on Nebraska/Oregon? Asking for a friend.

I only caught the second half of the Huskers game so maybe not the best feel but I came away impressed with their offense, in particular the running back with a lot of wiggle (Bryant). He looked as good as anyone I saw all day except for PSU #26. QB was also pretty good except when he had pressure in his face. Their cornerbacks were getting totally picked apart by Ark State, but the safety play was decent. Obviously, they couldn't close the door on ASU and really somewhat shit the bed and were lucky to not get OT.

I'm sure the Over will be pretty high but I'd look for a shootout in Eugene. You know way more about Ducks football than me, but when I last saw them they were playing terrible defense. As for the spread, it looks like it's moved 6 points or so to 10. No value in Ducks @ 10, but I'd be hesitant to play Huskers based on the poor defense I saw...

Thanks...one of my really good buds is a Husker diehard, lives just down the way but hasn't returned a call since Saturday and I don't know if he's just relieved and in recovery or still pissed about the game in general lol. I'm a huge Riley fan and a huge Taggart fan. Not really sure I could back Oregon just yet until seeing a couple more games under this regime and really not overly interested in going against Nebraska coming off somewhat of a scare.

I just didn't even watch one snap of that game so very much appreciate the feedback.

GL this week...should be an interesting game...no clue yet for me personally...

neb defense was awful outside of the first two drives and the 3rd qtr. the question is if they were sandbagging or not.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State running back Mike Weber will play against Oklahoma, sharing time with dynamic true freshman J.K. Dobbins.

Weber rushed for more than 1,000 yards as a redshirt freshman last season but was hampered by a hamstring injury throughout preseason camp. Still not 100 percent on Thursday, he sat out as Dobbins rambled for 181 yards on 29 carries, showing instincts and judgment beyond his years in a 49-21 win over Indiana.

Coach Urban Meyer said Monday that Weber will play, but he hasn't yet decided how the rotation will work in Saturday's game.

"Mike had a good practice," Meyer said. "He went full-speed today."

Took Cincy +34 to win 1 unit (-107)

Basically, a play against Michigan's QB situation right now. Thought Speight looked awful and O'Korn didn't show me anything. Hard to see Michigan scoring more than mid40s, so I need about 10 out of the Bearcats. This is Cincinnati's chance to run with the big boys.

I'd imagine Weber would be pretty inspired to return. Dobbins has everyone in Columbus saying Mike who?

I have Cincy somewhere between 3 and 10 points...thinking a big play...and a FG so lets go with 10 points...

Much will depend on Michigan gameplan 2nd half...obviously they will run a lot but JOK needs some reps and whatnot...

nice one marsski, I bet a higher number and will prob go back for more now. Word on the street is that the defense neb played vs arky st did not in any way resemble what was run during fall camp.....we shall see.

Speight wasn't any better last year and mich covered a lot of big point spreads at home. Harb tries his absolute hardest to cover...

Well, you would hope it gets better. I guess the gamblers think it won't...crazy that the spread is 14 now. I almost played a parlay but thought 68 was somewhat better half...

So I promised a little on the OSU/Sooners game...

We all watched OSU struggle in the first half, and get loose in the second. Big step up in class the week obviously, but I was really encouraged by what I saw. Dobbins was a spark plug, and thought JT did a better job getting the ball out and leading his receivers then what we saw the last few games of LY. The play calling was much better with the crossing routes that get OSU guys in space but, of course, you need good pass blocking for that. I thought the right side of the line would be the weak spot and really thought Prince played a much better game.
It'll all start up front this week and to me OSU's DL looked like men among boys last week. Indiana had a non existent rush game so dudes had their ears pinned back, but I don't know how you block them. I think they will absolutely dominate Oklahoma on the LOS, especially when the Sooners have the ball. Buckeyes got passed on last week, but as the game wore on I thought the DBs settled down. Plus, some of those throws were on the money or one-handed grabs. Simi Cobbs of IU is gonna make a lot of people look bad this year.
I kind of see a back and forth game that gets away from Oklahoma unless they can play error-free. The Shoe will be rocking, and if OSU picks up offensively where they left off it will be Goodnight Irene. I'll lay the 7 and if Mayfield can keep them in the game with guys in his face all game, I'll tip my hat.

i think steele has OU has his best OL in the country so that will be a hell of a matchup. OSU DL is really something though and it's hard to see anyone having the edge over that unit.

Who is fucking Syracuse football to start giving D1 schools 10 points?

I had M Tenn last week, and they couldn't do anything offensively against Vandy. But against Syracuse?
As my man, Senator Clay Davis used to say on The Wire...

M Tenn +10 to win 1 unit

GL this week Marsski....any opinion on Ohio U tonight?

Hey brother. I think OU is getting a tad too much respect. I made it 6. I'm not betting it but I'd have Purdue or no one. Also lean Over. Outcome will depend on OU defense in particular if they can get pressure.

Great job, Sooners. I thought the DL would dominate but the blocking upfront was tremendous. Clearly, they had a gameplay to attack us in the flats with RB catching passes out of the backfield and it worked. It's getting harder and harder to defend JT, he either can't or won't take the top off.
