Week 2 Discussion Thread

I couldn't / can't get past how bad Stanford was in Hawaii, losing to a QB who should have been in a wheelchair in the 2H. And on the offensive side it was pretty abysmal, actually very abysmal especially at QB. I think the Mormoms trash the Tree this weekend.

Number at 18.5, I want to bet but at this point will hope for some kind of miracle Tree money, just want to get in before 20 but no rush. Easily the one I'll be monitoring most closely.

Agree. That's a level of bad in Stanford that Luck can't help one bit this season.

UAB defense is going to be one of the worst in CFB this season, if not the worst. It gave up 42 points and 525 yards to something called Alabama State in week one. Trent Dilfer is hanging on by a thread. Golf game is good. Coaching thing, not so much.

I know it's Navy and all that it entails with the clock but I had to play the over at 58.5 in this game. I'll be surprised if Navy isn't springing big plays all over the place and gets well into the 40s. UAB is that bad defensively.

Spot on.

Im bigger on situations for college football than I am in other sports. Having said that:

Im fading Florida State and Ohio State (in their next game).

UVA looked really good by my eyes. Way better than I expected. Need to look at that game more.

Im torn on what I saw in the Georgia State/Ole Miss game. GS looks like they have some real talent on that team but I can never back that program, they never live up to the talent. But, are they worth a look vs. Memphis? If my eyes are right then that means Ole Miss is pretty good.

UNC giving 14 on the road? Not sure I can see that.

VT looked better than I expencted. only -1 at home vs. Vandy? Sign me up

I like Michigan to a certain extent but gonna just watch, cannot take an 18 year old on the road in the 2nd game.

Just a heads up that the crowd will have a large contingent of Carolina fans so won’t be a normal road game in week 2. I will be there along with several thousand others in Carolina Blue as a bunch of tickets were made available to Carolina fans and all were snatched up a few months back.

As bad as we looked Monday night, I would be shocked if we don’t win by at least 14+ given what I saw from UNCC Friday night vs a very average App team.

Now that the better QB is starting for UNC I think they roll.

VT jumped off the screen to me as well.

For me, just the P4

Three on outperform/overvalue after wk 1:

FSU, VT, Arizona

Three on underperform/undervalue:

NC St, Bama, UNC

Should put Auburn on outperform as well, pretty big game on considering pregame perceptions but no way in hell am I upgrading a team with Jackson Arnold too much. The Baylor defense in complete midseason form couldn't stop a tortoise. Or a Terp.

Yep. I said on Thursday that this is an under year.

Portal is huge.

Lack of continuity is big.

Hunt and another mentioned lack of QBs. Too many are unseasoned.

On the flip, we have a lot of 4th to 6th year guys at QB that are below average as well.

Late night Saturday games saw a flurry of overs otherwise this stat is more skewed.

NC @ Clt?

BEFORE the TCU game - UNC would be favored by a minimum of 18', as much as 20

You've got to downgrade Charlotte at least 2 points, for losing by 23 to starting over App St .... so now the line is 21/22 at least. So we downgrade UNC by 9-10 or so?

Little doubt a huge overreaction IMO, as TCU is probably much better than most think. I would make this 17/18 at least.

$$ warning tho ..... historically, the worst betting spot in the universe, is to play a team that : just lost at home, now favored on the road by DD.

>> This one is worth a look tho at <14 maybe .... I might wait for the game to start, play UNC live/2H - I can see them sleepwalking early (confidence shot to hell) - play on that Belichick halftime speech ha.....

Reminder.....

We have 3 coaches (at least) that are aware of the spread, and like to cover the spread ...... but didn't last week.
>> Franklin - Cignetti - Schiano

That Navy game I like a lot - huge SPOT, and MATCHUP advantages for Navy.

First question when backing a huge favorite : can the opposing D, DISRUPT what they like to do? Here that means getting penetration, getting into the backfield, stopping the run. UAB can do none of that - they rank near the bottom in HAVOC on D, and stopping the run. Note Navy is always at the top, in preventing havoc (little chance of creating turnovers). UAB D is terrible on 3rd, and RZ

Under Dilfer they : have never won a road game (0-12 / 4/12 ats) - have never covered, after winning a game SU (won LW) - 2 games vs Navy they've been outscored 72-24, missing the cover by 46 points. I also like they have a winnable game on deck. These dogs had to score 35 2H points to beat Bama STATE. Note they are MUCH better at home (8-5/7-6).

Good stuff.

I feel like with the PSU light schedule + they are a playoff team + they didn't cover a few home games they usually do last year ...

That we'll see Frames grab the boosters/alum/etc some cash like he has in previous years.

I would be more concerned with the defense
Given Charlotte only scored 11 against a less than average App defense, this is about as ideal of a situation we could ask for. If we don’t win by 2 TDs we will be in for a very long and painful season.

Was 21.5 before the TCU game and before that game even started I posted about the inevitable overreactions that would come no matter what happened so I am licking my chops in this spot as I saw the replay of the Charlotte game here at BoA last weekend and they are not good and the fan base is not feeling the team this year, so a great “get it right” spot for us in my view given that this won’t be a true road game as it might be at least 25% Carolina blue in the stands given the proximity. Will be interesting for sure as the first half will be very telling.

Kentucky interests me a lot. Ole Miss being egregiously overrated after last week. Revenge angle also being overstated. Anticipating stout defense from UK and an effective run game to shorten the game

Whole world on Kentucky too.
Outside of Kansas this is the second most raunchy line of the week. It's so strong for Ole Miss. There will likely be 75%+ wagers on both Kansas and Kentucky as dogs. That's not a positive.

Astounding 89% bets and 90% money on WIU tonight

What a terrible betting game. Buy low on NW is a thing but laying basically 31 points when they might not score 31 is a real problem

Other game most are fading Louisville which is flat out stupid for me. On over and while I expect JMU to score, I think Ville can name their number

Wasn't really aware of the (level of) hostility that exists between Kansas and Missouri. First game in 14 years and should be fun.

It's massive

Bigger rivalry game than ISU/Iowa

They hate each other and @teapot will likely need CPR during this game

That's saying something vs. ISU / Iowa. I remember, well, the 2009 game with Mangino, Reesing, et. al. Classic.

Man we went out that night for a big gathering. 1 vs 2

As someone who went to college a mere 15 miles South of the Mason-Dixon line I hope those cunts lose bigly

You'd laugh at how that line defined things. People who grew up South of it have Southern hillbilly twang. Think I learned a lot more about America going to school at Central Missouri than I expected. And Warrensburg is the home of Old Drum? Statue on the courthouse lawn. Look him up, you'll smile!

Oh man, that eulogy to Old Drum is something else.

Pub Crawls on St Patty's took us to the square and it was common to take a pic giving a beer to Old Drum. Wish I had a photo to share but it was before digital stuff. Pretty cool story nonetheless.

I honestly didn’t know how big it was until Teapot and a few others.
What’s the rotation going forward? They going to try and keep it going?

Not sure I've ever been so stoked for an actual rivalry game the night before Iowa/ISU but this checks every box

Love the rivalry games. Is Iowa/Iowa St always early and not the last week, right?
Colorado and Colorado St maybe too?

Usually week 3 for both but the Ireland game changed that this year for Iowa

LOL. I was born 15 miles north of it in PA. My kids were arguing this summer with their second cousins from Maryland, whose mom was from WV. They were arguing about how to say "on". Finally, right before we left, I told them that their cousins were using the hillbilly pronunciation. I flashed some Google search results to back up my claim.
