EASTERN ILLINOIS 16, CHARLESTON SOUTHERN 13 (OT) | BOX SCORE
Offense, defense, special teams, overtime; something for everyone was on the menu Saturday afternoon as Eastern Illinois beat Charleston Southern, 16-13, in overtime on Senior Day at O'Brien Field. Eastern Illinois led 13-7 at the half and was able to hold that lead until late in the fourth quarter when after the third big punt return of the day by Noah Jennings put Charleston Southern in business inside the EIU 20-yard with less than five minutes to play. In the overtime session, Charleston Southern had the ball first. On a fourth and one play Anthony Shockey and Kaelin Drakeford came up with a big fourth down stop holding Autavius Ison just short of the first down marker. On EIU's possession Charleston Southern would make an initial stop forcing a field goal attempt after a three-and-out. On the attempt the snap sailed high over the holders head and while racing to the ball a Charleston Southern player illegally kicked the ball to advance it. The penalty provided EIU with a first down and moved the ball inside the 10-yard line. CSU would make a two goal line stops before Julian Patino knocked home an 18-yard field goal for the win.

When I ran through that list of rivalry games, I forgot North Dakota State at South Dakota. NDSU had won 6 in a row before USD beat them in Fargo last regular season and NDSU avenged that lost on the road in the playoffs. As good as USD is this year and it is just a product of the schedule and teams that teams miss in conferences with too many teams, but USD doesn't have any quality win really. Drake. That is their only win vs a team with a winning record.

USD always plays the bison pretty tough. Even when NDSU was blazing through the league usd always have given them trouble.

Could be Aaron Best's last game coaching Eastern Washington, he's a EWU lifer and EW has dropped some games they shouldn't have early in the season, but they have fought vs every Big Sky team on their schedule. Northern Arizona playing for a potential playoff spot, they probably don't make it with a loss. Pretty good off the radar game

USD always plays the bison pretty tough. Even when NDSU was blazing through the league usd always have given them trouble.

I think that game can mirror the SDSU-NDSU game and the SDSU-USD game. Maybe because of what Bison did to them in the playoffs last year that isn't top of anyone's mind. However this will be the best D NDSU has played outside of SDSU and defensively this Yotes team pretty on par with the Jacks.

Pretty meaningful game for playoff seeding too. I don't know what would happen to NDSU if they lost, maybe just get the 2 seed? Don't think they can fall any lower than that. But for South Dakota, It would mean the difference between probably a 4th seed or maybe 8th/9th.

I have not got into any of the playoff talk before this week because there were so many games yet to be played and there are always upsets and unexpected results, but now I am thinking playoff stuff pretty heavy. This feels like a playoff level game. As does Cat-Griz, - the outcome of that game is less in doubt though.

Looking through some Massey and Sagarin lines, I really really hope we get some openers this week that I can be apart of

7 Jackson players suspended and 9 Alabama State players suspended after a post-game fight. Will have to determine who the players are and if it matters.

JSU clinched their SWAC division and will face Southern December 7th for the SWAC title. This week they travel to face Alcorn. I sense a bit of a let down. Alcorn QB Vaughn was injured last game unfortunately, unsure of status.

Alabama State will play PV. Somehow PV has won 9 straight in the series

Very unproductive week so far for me. Things always get busy this time of year for one reason or another and the I tend to feel a need to shift my time for family and friends after months of literal obsession on trying to predict football games. Have to still finish up my work from last week's games which the cumulative data and notes is all I have to draw on for any reasoned opinions and ideas. I can't simply remember anything anymore without referring back to notes.. But the good news is if they release openers Thursday or Friday my schedule is pretty open to act on them.

Some fantastic games this week, but once again awful scheduling. That is one thing, with no TV partners picking games for broadcast windows there is nobody to spread the kickoff times out. Makes for a very very very hectic Saturday trying to keep up with them all.

UC Davis at Sacramento State Causeway Classic

Idaho at Idaho State Battle of the Domes
Is Jackson St vs Alcorn really called that?
I’m 46 born and raised in NO and the bayou classic has always been called that by some

That’s wild

Yeah, and the Jackson - Southern game referred to as "the boombox classic". They have the Alabama State - Alabama A&M is "Magic City Classic". Some of the HBCU games have names like this.

Good opportunity to ask you @twinkie13 if there is anything interesting going on leading up to the SLU-Nicholls games tonight? I have heard SLU mentioned as a potential bubble playoff team should they win, but they do not have a good path to get in and I'd be pretty surprised if they were seriously talked about making it. Disappointing seasons by disappointing teams.

Do not like how this season is ending up for Nicholls and it wasn't like they were ever good before. Bad start to year, had a decent stretch mid-season, but the last 3 games are rough. Was a barrage of turnovers vs SFA and Nicholls failed to score a TD. Missed the game winning FG twice with :00 on the clock and lost to Houston Christian which is never good and the O was pretty bad again at Lamar last week. More TOs at Lamar last week. 0-3 SU and ATS to end the season so far, actually on an 0-5 ATS slide. D playing pretty well. Oddly their last game they won, 4 games ago vs McNeese was their worst D game lately allowed 401 (5.6) including 168 (5.3) rushing which is their worst run D performance on the year so maybe that's just an outlier, but Nicholls D gives them a chance most every week. Hate their O. McQuiade way too many INTs and the running game has gone away of late.

SLU just pasted NW State last week doing something that Nicholls couldn't do, cover! SLU is playing pretty well. Took care of business as they should last week, got some luck to comeback and beat Lamar. Missed game tying FG vs UIW in a game that SLU played pretty well outside of 3 TOs led to 3 UIW TDs. Had a game winnig drive in final seconds on SFA, beat HCU bad. That is something, Nicholls really should've had more pts vs NW State, but you take the two worst teams in the league that both Nicholls and SLU faced in HCU and NW State. Nicholls lost to HCU and beat NW State by just 20. SLU beat both by a combined 78-7 score! By record, Nicholls is actually the second worst team in the Southland Conference with just a 2-4 record! SLU played Incarnate Word close, Nicholls got blown out by them.

River Bell trophy and rivalry game, senior night for Nicholls, so a lot of different things can happen, but what should happen is SLU wins. Nicholls is playing on a short week after losing to Lamar just 5 days ago, SLU had a bye last week. I will be looking for a cheap price on Southeastern La when line comes out.

You said it better than me

Past 1 o'clock on the east coast and no lines yet. Too bad because I am ready today. Hopefully we get some this afternoon or it will be old school tomorrow morning

I’m at a play right now. Had all afternoon. Think they may just do these limited games. Nothing I was hoping for among those.

All I took was Davis at 9.5. Was at a middle school play checking for FCS lines. Like that’s pretty normal right, nothing wrong with that

San Diego/Morehead opened at 8.5 last night. Currently 6 FD, 4 MB

W&M/Rich is 5.5 on MB, can buy to 6.5. FD is 4.5

Last night FD opened North Dakota -1.5 at Illinois State. Which is close to what Massey had ND -2.5. It quickly went to Ill St -1.5, now 2.5

Lamar was +4.5 briefly last night FD, now 3

E Wash/NAU opened 4.5, dropped to 3.5 and was there a while, now back to 4.5

Tenn State opened +9.5, now 7

First sell-out in the Lafayette-Lehigh series since 2014, first sell-out game in Lehigh since 2013.

I really wish this schedule was broken up more. So many good games

19 players suspended for NCCU + an assistant coach. Wish they were playing somebody better than Delaware State

17 players suspended for Howard. They are at Morgan

Lot of steam early in the day on NAU up to -7.5 from 3.5 last night

As I was watching Lamar meltdown at McNeese and then rally for a crazy game winning TD with no time left I remembered that McNeese is the game that started this whole season off week 0. McNeese football bookended the regular season, weird but true. It's over. Sure we got playoffs next week and football through December, but the best part is over. And man this year really seemed like more of a blur than ever. I put in more work than ever, bet more games than ever, put as much of my real life completely on hold as best I could so I can do this for 3 months, and just like that it's over. One on hand I don't know what I will do without it, but on the other hand, I really need to get back to normal life.

So what did we have today...

Lehigh wins the Patriot League and goes to the playoff

CCSU uses EIGHT turnovers including SEVEN INTs and wins the NEC and goes to the playoff

Richmond with a statement win over rival William & Mary and leaves the CAA as Champs (moving to Patriot). Surely they will be a top 8 playoff seed.

For the second straight year, Harvard fails to win to secure an outright Ivy Title - Yale Wins! Ivy Title gets split 3 ways - Columbia (first share of Ivy Title since 1961!), Dartmouth and Harvard are your 2024 Ivy League Champions

Anyone see the end of the Mercyhurst game? Mercyhurst got their first win vs Dl team as a Dl member. Scored in the final seconds, went for 2 to go up 1 pt on a trick play lateral to an OL then they got a strip sack fumble to end the game. Pretty cool

Drake wins the Pioneer League outright and goes to the playoff

Great story for Southern Illinois QB Michael Lindauer who retired from football and was on the staff at the beginning of the year. But due to injuries and with a year of eligibility remaining, the NCAA granted his return to the team and in the season finale he made his first, only and last start and threw for a school record 7 TDs.

Villanova may have had a disappointing year considering expectations, but they always beat Delaware. Hens lose their final FCS game as they move to FBS next year.

Albany came back from 28 nothing to win 41-34 vs Hampton

Rhode Island earned it's first share of the CAA title since 1985

Bucknell QB Ralph Rucker has become Bucknell's all time pass TD leader, he has a year of eligibility left, odds he returns to Bucknell?

Eastern Kentucky ends the season on a 5 game winning streak and a likely playoff birth

Anyone see the end of the Davidson - Valpo game? Of course not. Valpo scores TD with :00 left then get the 2pt conversion for the win!

Mark Farley is carried off the field on the shoulders of UNI players

Fantastic finish in the South Dakota game, how they got the ball back and how they scored on NDSU to win their first ever share of the MVFC title and a likely top 4 playoff seed.

Montana State ends the regular season the only undefeated FCS team and the #1 playoff seed

Abilene Christian may've won the UAC and secured an auto-bid last week, but this week they saw their QB get injured in a loss at SFA.

UT Martin needs OT to beat Lindenwood, Tennessee State takes down SEMO and Tennessee Tech beat EIU to make the Big-South a 4-way tie at the top. SEMO gets the auto-bid by virtue of tie breakers. Tennessee State at 9-3 is going to be hard to keep out of the playoffs. TSU claims a share of conference title for first time since 1999

Northern Arizona asserted themselves in the 4Q to get past Eastern Washington and at 8-4 NAU will be likely playoff team

Sac State showed up today and gave UC Davis all they could handle. Lan Larrison remains awesome though! Great season for Davis.

Lamar - McNeese. I just hope nobody had McNeese. Lamar was the better team for 3.5 quarters anyway, but as it played out, what an exciting win by Lamar and a crushing loss for McNeese. Lamar is up 10 4Q, 4th-goal from the 1, they go with a tush-push play. McNeese stops them. Lamar QB Coleman is ejected for throwing a punt. It was a very chippy game with other players being ejected earlier in the game. After that it was like Lamar forgot how to play football on O and D. McNeese scored 2 TDs in the final 5 minutes and they go up 4! The game clocks had not been working so the only way you knew how much time was left was when the refs told you. Lamar's completely lost. It's 4th-16 at their own 17 about 1min left, McNeese D is pumped, stadium is relatively loud - backup QB for Lamar connects on a 29y pass. They have life now. They get down to the 5 yard line. :05 left, last play of game...Lamar scores! Flag. Referee meeting both teams celebrate and argue at the same time. O PI. Untimed down from the 20 yardline, Lamar hits a receiver at the 1 and he falls on the goal line, twists the ball across the line (I think) - TD! Review, play is confirmed although there was no camera that showed if the ball crossed or not, I think it did just never saw it. 26-24 Final Lamar, back-to-back winning seasons for them for first time since 1967!

That was one heck of an ending to the season.
