The last 3 times Utah has faced the Suns
They beat them in Phoenix 112 to 104
They beat them by 23 in Utah
They beat them by 19 in Utah
They made a mild effort against Memphis because they have no respect for the Suns and want to be rested for the game,
This is the same team that lost 102 to 103 at Portland with Lopez back.
They are 7-3 ATS last 10 on the road
The Suns are going to go into Portland. They have an excellent record on 2 days rest. Portland is going to be steamed as the Suns have beat them last 3 and 13 of last 20
it will be fairly violent I imagine. The Suns will lose I imagine and come home to a B-B. The Suns are 3-8 SU and ATS in a b-b game but they will be made a favorite. Maybe 5 or 6 and then--I hope they survive but I am leaning right now to a bet on Utah.
Just my inital impression of that Friday game, The Suns by the way are 1-6 ATS in their last 7 home games on Friday.

I'm not sure I understand... So you're suggesting the only reason the Jazz lost to the Grizzlies was so that they could rest up for an opponent with whom they have no actual rivalry and one that isn't even remotely close to them in the standings? It had nothing to do with their starting backcourt in this game producing a grand total of four points, or shooting a woeful 17-26 from the line, or Favors and Kantner unable to contain Gasol and Randolph in the paint, or the Grizzlies slowing down the pace in the 2H and ramping up the defensive pressure, or just the plain fact that the Grizzlies are the far superior team?

If you like the Jazz to cover against the Suns on Friday given the variables involved, that's fine, I'll be rooting for you to win your bet (as I always do), but c'mon...

I am not saying they wanted to lose. I am saying they expected to lose and reduced their effort. Only 3 players went over 30 minutes and 39 points in the second half speaks for itself.
Regarding Friday right now I am very likely to play Utah but it is Not a lock. Utah will be playing 3 in 4 and the Suns will be playing B-B but will have had 2 days off before Portland so a milder version but Utah off a home loss as a road dog on 1 days rest is not something i have any interest in fading.
Unlike the Suns this team plays team basketball and has a high basketball IQ

I am not saying they wanted to lose. I am saying they expected to lose and reduced their effort. Only 3 players went over 30 minutes and 39 points in the second half speaks for itself.
I'm not going to spend the afternoon arguing over something I don't actually care about, but the entire premise of your thread is that the Jazz gave up so they could focus their efforts on a non rival two nights later. Honestly, that's absurd...

"Only 3 players went over 30 minutes": What does that have to do with anything? Favors, Hayward and Kanter, 3 of the 5 starters, went over. Had Ingles or Exum produced more than 4 points between them, in 20 and 25 minutes respectively, one of them would have as well, so that argument's a non starter.

"39 points in the second half speaks for itself":

1H

MEM 58 Points, 46 Possessions, 56.1% Shooting
UTA 51 Points, 47 Possessions, 48.6% Shooting

2H

MEM 42 Points, 40 Possessions, 38.5% Shooting
UTA 39 Points, 40 Possessions, 41.7% Shooting

Memphis shoots 46% on the season, shot 47% on the game, it came back down to average. Utah shoots 45% on the season, shot 45% on the game, it came back down to average.

Also, the entire nature of the game shifted in the 2H as Memphis slowed the game down to a crawl, milking the shot clock on almost every possession. Kind of hard to score when the other team doesn't let you have the ball...

"I am not saying they wanted to lose. I am saying they expected to lose and reduced their effort.": They were down by 7 at the half, down by 6 after 3. Were your working theory correct, they should have given up either at the very start of the game and/or after the first quarter. Instead they kept themselves in the game in the 2nd quarter when they could have just folded tent after being down 7 after one. And if you're talking about the 4th quarter, just look at the play by play, when the Grizzlies kept taking the shot clock down to 8 or less.

I know you have your way of looking at games, and that's fine, but this is one of those instances where you're really reaching to try and make a non existent point...

There are a lot of ways of looking at it. Utah had covered 3 in a row and they had only covered 4 in a row once this year but had covered 3 in a row 3 times. Utah had definitely been improving. Losing by 5 to Clippers, beating GS in a good spot and I was on them in both of those. I was not on them at Portland which was a mistake since they had lost 4 in a row to Portland and in that spot they would always give full effort. Bottom line though I believe if they were looking at a really tough opponent they would have shown up Wednesday and you simply underestimate them.

They beat them in Phoenix 112 to 104
They beat them by 23 in Utah
They beat them by 19 in Utah

Interesting that all three of those games were also B2B games for the Suns. The last win was actually a 27-point win in Utah.

Utah on the road after a 10-19 point loss 3-1 ATS
Suns at home after a 20 point loss 1-2 ATS
Took 6 after the game
At the beginning of the season the Suns could have been great. The coach allowed the Morris brothers to become loudmouth ball hogs who give very little effort on defense. Greene unlike most of this team does not need the ball to be effective but he simply can not force himself to take good shots and his minutes are collapsing. This team should be 2-0 vs Houston and they are 0-2 because Houston plays team basketball which the Suns have forgotten. Next year I expect the Morris brothers will be gone. Then the rebuilding can begin.
